Well I got to babysit my sister in law's daughter overnight yesterday and it was horrible. The baby cried constantly and allowed me to sleep a total of about an hour and a half. She was well taken care of but wanted constant attention, which was difficult for me to devote to her because I needed to sleep so I can work today.

Well I got to babysit my sister in law's daughter overnight yesterday and it was horrible. The baby cried constantly and allowed me to sleep a total of about an hour and a half. She was well taken care of but wanted constant attention, which was difficult for me to devote to her because I needed to sleep so I can work today.

She could have had a stomach ache, babies get colic easily (especially if your sister-in-law nurses). The best thing for a colic stomached baby to soothe them is catnip tea in a baby bottle. Don't add too much sugar to the tea, just a touch of sugar is all you'll need.

Carry the baby while feeding the bottle of catnip tea with their stomach facing your stomach (the heat from your stomach aids in getting their gas out and soothes them).

If you want to lay down, lay on your back and put the baby stomach down on your stomach, again: the heat rises and soothes, helps the baby get the gas out.

Another way to get baby to sleep when they have a stomach ache = dangling them over one arm. Their head lays in the crook of your elbow; their arms and legs dangle on either side of your arm and your hand keeps them balanced by their diaper area. That puts a little pressure on their stomachs and eases their strain and tummy, they drop right off to sleep if you gently move your arm and sing to them.

Eesh, I just spent most of my evening slogging through LaTeX documentation and being driven to tears by unhelpful help articles in an attempt to get the university thesis style file I'd downloaded to work. I finally succeeded around half an hour ago, but now it refuses to produce a title page and I have no idea why...

I think karma for the mockingly-snobbish comment I made yesterday about people typesetting their theses in Word and how LaTeX is so much better just landed squarely on my head, egads.
