Right now I'm about to start a new book actually, but I'm a bit torn. I've got the Appeal from John Grisham, American gods by Neil Gaimann and the first Shannara books by Terry Brooks. All were acquired on my recent trip to Orlando, and I'm not sure which to begin with tbh as all are quite appealing smile.gif

I just finished Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. It’s a little bit of autobiography and some very basic advice. I found myself folding down page corners which I never do, but somehow this book invited me to mark where I wanted to return regularly. I especially liked the parts about plot vs story. Also I laughed several times (where it was supposed to be funny), and that’s always a plus in how-to books.

Now I’m reading The Elements of Style. I lost or gave away my copy so it’s been awhile. I expect more advice and fewer laughs than the last book. tongue.gif

The Lord of the Rings.

I don't know how many times I've read this, but it never stops being good.

Very cute, 'rocu. Anyone of a certain age and older remembers those books - the Hobbit, all three volumes of the Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion. Those were the days when film couldn't do Mr. Tolkein's imagination any kind of justice.

As much as I enjoy the movies, I still maintain that film can’t do Mr. Tolkein’s imagination justice. tongue.gif

I read The Hobbit out loud to my son when he was an infant. Hmm, I think I could stand to read them all again…

I note that James Herriot lived in Thirsk, though apparently not at the Mead Hall. biggrin.gif

Working my way through the second half of The Two Towers, and I downloaded an ebook that I'm checking out: The Art of War in the Middle Ages, by Sir Charles Oman.

Edit: Scratch that, I'm almost at the end of the Two Towers smile.gif

I'd started reading Magician, but I've ended up abandoning it in favour of reading some Sci-Fi (I really need more of that on my Kindle, only got 6 Sci-Fi books sad.gif )

So now I'm reading The Reality Dysfunction, by Peter F. Hamilton

The War of Houses and A Mystery Unleashed would be my additional recommendations, Grits. Well worth the read, I'd say. We current-gen RPers had absolutely NOTHING on those guys in the old days!
