The Chorrolites now has its own Discord for talking to each other or friends while dungeon crawling:

https://discord.gg/vNzHPw

I don't know how Discord works, have only used TeamSpeak before; so ... let me know if there is any way I can improve it.

(And Hazmick = can you post the Discord address on the Chorrolites home page?)

Wow, cool! Thanks, mALX! I have never used Discord or anything similar, so it will be a learning experience for me too. I'd have to get a headset with a mic, though.

Ahh, I see yet another activity that will cut me out . . .

I would not be able to join the Trials runs that the trading guild does on Tuesdays because TS is required.

And now I see our little guild going the same way.

Just as well I have not been able to make it to the guild gatherings, so I won’t be missing out on something that I had been enjoying.

I do understand that voice chat is easier than text chat - it just doesn’t work for me. Period.

Anyways, enjoy!

Don’t worry Rider, Khajiit is sure no one here wishes to leave you out. Doubtless we can refrain from using voice functions when you are around. Besides, from the look of things, only mALX and Khajiit even have the equipment for it.

I can't go on those trial runs with the trading guild either; they are only allowing the most elite and experienced players in that = I don't qualify to be allowed to go out with them; the only trials I've completed have been with Bear. And honestly = I doubt they would bring you even without the Teamspeak factor because the people allowed to go on them are people they have run with for years and played with on other MMO's prior to ESO. So please don't let that upset you.

Also - Please don't take us getting the Teamspeak and Discord as a slap in your face, Haute; they are only there for those members who WANT to use them.

Please don't forget that there are two of us in the guild who need them for OUR handicaps/disabilities. These additions don't exclude you at all because many still use the chat; but I am almost completely excluded in the chat box at our meetings; ask Gosse! And Gosse struggles to use chat due to her hands.

Before Kazeara's move, she was planning to use TeamSpeak or Discord to read the chat box to me during the meets; because I just can't keep up with that chat box and it leaves me almost completely out of everything during our meets. In Gosse's first meet she saw me struggling to keep up with the chat and offered to do the same for me.

Gosse explained to me that the Discord has a chat box built into it with Text to Speech for me; and I used it today = Acadian typed me messages in it and the Discord read them to me; so it works very well for my disability.

So I know how frustrating it must feel to you when you think you are being excluded by your disability; I have been through it; and not just this Guild but Chorrol itself has been so willing to help me in any way they can. Acadian alerts me when there is something on the forums I should be reading and responding to; and sends me hugely printed notices when we have a guild meet or I have an appointment, etc. I have no doubt they do the same for you.

Everything added to our guild is for anyone who wants it; no one is required or should feel excluded because of anything we bring to that guild. It is all there as a bonus for anyone who can use them or wants to use them. There are many who won't be using them; many who either don't have the equipment or just don't want to.

You will never be excluded in this guild for any reason, you should already know that. We are friends of long standing; you must know we would never do anything to hurt you or exclude you.

Rider, have you contacted your Trials leader? My PS4 guild had someone who wasn’t playing listen in and type commands to whoever couldn’t hear the voice channel when they did Trials.

It sounds like Discord will be useful for text to voice as well as just voice. If we can get voice to text working with it somehow, that could be a solution for connecting those who have hearing, visual, and keyboarding issues

Dunno much about how Discord works but count me in the group of people that can't use voice chat at all because I don't have the equipment.

Found a pair of earbuds with a mic on the cord and tried to get on Discord to say hi, but it's telling me the invite has expired?

Earlier today I couldn't figure out how to get water out of a water cooler that only had two buttons on it, so maybe it' me. embarrased.gif

I don't know how it works either; but Gosse has been teaching Acadian; and my friend (the naked vampire that danced on the Guild Hall table) has been trying to teach me (I'm technically challenged, lol). But the "Text to Speech" part of its chat box on there works perfect for me on there; just wish it worked on the in-game chat box.

Since we have a mixed group here regarding text only and those up for voice, it seems to me that for something like a guild meeting, therefore, that text is the way to go. That does not preclude arrangements like mALX and I being also on voice so I can perhaps use voice to try and help keep her up with our communications. As mALX mentioned, I'm fairly attuned to her limitations and believe my voice in her ear might be able to help prevent her from standing in the corner (like Jerric taking a pee, lol) trying to slowly read the chatbox and still falling behind. And hopefully do so in a way that does not diminish the text chatting for others.

As far as tactical use, yes, voice is handy. But, I'm sure I speak for all of us that I'd rather have Rider and Monkey with me and the whole group on text than not have them at Buffy's side and be on voice. And if it means having Britta in front of Buffy, I'm very willing to have voice set up between mALX and I to try and help keep her up with with what is going on in the text chat.

A "designated reader" gets past the lack of text-to-speech support in the chat box, but the reverse is a harder problem. For the keyboard-challenged (anyone who's spilled their coke recently) there's a need for speech-to-text. There are a number of speech recognition programs, but creating an interface wouldn't be easy. I'll give it some thought while I'm on vacation.

It's the sort of UI mod that Beth and ZOS might get behind, too.

Agreed, and I am actually not sure that the Discord doesn't cover this since they are set up for sight challenged. I found this link to a Discord site for the deaf or "hard of hearing:"

They may have some solutions on the Speech to Text function for Haute so those on Discord could talk and it would print out the words for her to read.

There was never any idea that it would be all one way or all the other; this was always just a feature that those who wanted to use it could; and those who didn't want to could ignore it.

For me it is a necessity to have some help during these guild meets where the talk in the chat box was overwhelming; and for Haute it is always a necessity that she have all conversations in the chat box. Gosse can't type too much or play too long because she has extremely arthritic hands and they become immensely painful. Grits can only play standing up due to her excruciating back pain; it is amazing she even makes it to these guild meets when she does!

See; we all of us may have some special issue at one time or another; but on here we are friends of long standing; have become like family to one another. We have always been a community here that helps each other in every way possible; and I have absolutely no doubt that everyone will do the same to ensure Haute is not left feeling excluded from conversations in the meets whenever she can make it to them. (she works and takes care of her mother).

As long as people keep in mind that Haute needs to see it in the chat box; and someone remembers that I need to hear it = we should do just fine without a decree or ruling telling us we can or can't use the voice for the meets one way or the other.

Please: Anyone who does want to or need to use the Discord (including me) should also make sure to type their responses in the chat box so Haute never feels excluded from any conversations during the meets. That was probably the hardest frustration during the meets for me this past year; the feeling of not being a part of the conversations. I understand Haute not wanting that to happen; and I don't want to see it happen to her either. I'm sure none of us do.

** Edit:

Here is the article showing the link. It seems when I try to copy/paste the link itself; something is messing up. So just click on the link for the site in this Reddit page to access it.

I have joined their site; it is a Discord site for the Deaf. I am hoping they may have a solution for some way to do a "Speech to Text" for people with hearing difficulties. The link to them is a few entries down on this Reddit page:

https://www.reddit.com/r/deaf/comments/6pdnuu/discord/

I am checking in there to see if I find anything; and if anyone else with Discord can join it and find anything to help Haute; I'd appreciate it. (if you don't mind).

OH! Grits was able to use "Speech to Text" using her telephone connected to the Discord; and while she talked it typed everything she said into the Discord chat box. This is great news for Haute!

So if any of us have a cell phone they want to use for this (probably need a smart phone) they could keep Haute up on what was being said in the Discord voice part!

That is exactly (technically opposite) what someone will hopefully be doing for me: reading the chat aloud while in Discord so I can keep up with what is being said at the meet. It will be Awesome to not be a day late and dollar short with my comments from now on, lol.

Also: the Discord can be set up in an overlay while in game; so any of us that want to can keep up with the text posts while still in game! It only shows up when someone actually posts something, then disappears again after a slight delay so your screen is not hindered in gameplay. You could put it anywhere on your screen that is most convenient and least distracting just in case it occurs while you are in combat or something. (I haven't tried it out yet, but will most def try it out).

OH! And earlier tonight I had the Discord shut off; and it sent me an email giving me an update on all the printed chats I missed while offline! I thought I would hate it (because it wasn't TeamSpeak) - but I am starting to get pretty excited about this Discord!

I've been using TeamSpeak for three years now; and thought I would hate the complexity of the Discord (which is why I ended up getting both for our Guild). But honestly ... I think as I learn more and more about the Discord; I am thinking that I like it better now! I think I just paid a year for TeamSpeak and it might not even get used!

TeamSpeak is paid to set up one as a server; but you can download the desktop app for free and use anyone else's TeamSpeak for free as long as they allow you to. I've always used the ones for the Guilds I was a member of till now; so this is the first time I've had to pay for using one; though I've been using them for 3 years.

Discord is free to set up (!) and (of course is also free to use). This is the first time I've ever used Discord; so I'm kind of having to learn it as I go; but I am liking it better and better every day. At first I was afraid it would be too complex for me to learn; which is why I went ahead and paid for the Teamspeak (which is SO easy to use!)

But TeamSpeak doesn't have near the features Discord does.
