QUOTE(Renee @ Jun 7 2021, 08:18 PM) Nukes and... Appalachia. I never thought hear a paragraph constructed, mentioning those two terms one after the other. When the world was supposed to end due to the end of the Mayan calendar (December 2012), I had this crazy idea of driving off to Catoctin, where it seems nothing so horrible could hurt us there. Well, to be fair....I don't think any nukes did go off in Appalachia. At least, not during the war (as far as I can tell anyway). The nukes in game are just a story mechanic. The blast zones produce high level irradiated monsters for group hunts. This post has been edited by Kane: Jun 9 2021, 12:14 PM

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Jun 9 2021, 06:19 PM) If you listen to Old Gods of Appalachia, you know that Appalachia does not need radiation to spawn monsters from the unplumbed depths of Earth's worst nightmares. This sounds like something my wife would love to listen to.

QUOTE(Renee @ Nov 29 2025, 07:01 PM) alright great. You'll be on PC though, whereas I'll eventually get 76 for Xbox. otherwise I'd say we could eventually meet up in Appalachia. yee-haw!
Well if you learn any tips, feel free to share them. I haven't been able to play since buying it, so still don't know how to combat or anything. (and can't find the handy "Controls" under Settings so I could at least read up on what key does what action, urgh). Uh, not sure how this works (or doesn't), but my computer has XBox built in. Well, when I went to order the game they didn't give me the option of PC at all, only "XBox on PC" or Steam. Well, since I already had a Steam account I just went ahead and said "Steam." Was kind of afraid to do the XBox on PC since I didn't have a clue how to play it that way and don't have a controller.

So like Steam, Microsoft have their own virtual storefront and launcher. Basically, you click on the Xbox icon on your computer and it will bring up Microsoft’s launcher. From there you can launch any games that you have bought using the Xbox virtual storefront, or access the Xbox virtual storefront itself. Unless a game allows crossplay, you will not be able to play a multiplayer game on your pc with a friend that has an Xbox console.

The Burning Springs update just came out. Here's some more info on it: https://fallout.bethesda.net/en/article/2tp...s-release-notesIn short, it's a map expansion (advertised as the largest yet, but the only real competition there is the Shenandoah Valley) and we're going into rural Ohio. It also includes a new mechanic called Bounty Hunting, featuring none other than The Ghoul from the TV show (and yes, he is voiced by Walton Goggins). Should be interesting. I plan on taking a break from Fallout: London to start checking this expansion out tonight.

It's a game-sized mod for Fallout 4. It's really good. There are several fairly big gripes I have with it, but for a mod it's great. I've poured a bunch of time into it. This post has been edited by RaderOfTheLostArk: Dec 4 2025, 02:43 AM

Okay, before I find it and download it = what kind of gripes do you have? It sounds like something I def will want, is it a paid mod? Do I get it through Bethesda or can I get it through Steam? *mALX's head explodes ...*

Let me preface it by saying I still very much recommend playing the game as it is a ton of fun. And I also recommend getting it through GOG because GOG did much more to help get it working through their client as opposed to Steam's. Though that means you'd have to buy Fallout 4 on GOG if you don't have it through them. But no, it's not a paid mod. It's not part of Creation Club, so you won't have to buy it. As for my biggest issues with the game: - While the faction system works closer to Fallout 3/NV than to 4's, the factions themselves are mostly pretty one-dimensional. There isn't a whole lot of moral complexity to them and are sometimes just boring caricatures. NV and 4 were far better at making their factions interesting.
- Relatedly, you can tell which factions the developers liked most and made the "good guys." It's not like NV where there are real pros and cons to the Yes Man, NCR, and House (there are no pros to the Legion, though, lol), or like Fallout 4 where there are real pros and cons to the Railroad, Brotherhood of Steel, and even to a lesser extent the Institute (even though the Institute is clearly the most morally repugnant).
- You also don't get to truly learn and experience much with the predominant factions vying for power in London until much later in the story. They really don't do anything until Act 3 of the game, which is where I am. And sometimes, your character can ask certain questions about the factions when there is no way for them to really know to ask certain questions.
- This is much more of a personal preference, but I don't like that there is a hard ending to the game (which I have not gotten to yet, but I know that's how it ends). It does slides similarly to NV. I much prefer the "play after the ending" style of 3 and 4, but admittedly it may have just been easier for modders to do it this way. But it is kind of annoying when there is so much content and you built up a handful of settlements and there is a hard ending.
That being said, the factions are still mostly fun to engage in and the quests themselves are often pretty interesting. So don't let these biggest gripes scare you away. There is still a ton of fun to be had. And you learn some interesting stuff about IRL British culture and locations. This post has been edited by RaderOfTheLostArk: Dec 5 2025, 04:22 PM
