Well with MechWarrior5 due out later this year and BATTLETECH currently taking up most of what little time Khajiit has to spare for games, this one thought he would create a thread for all things BATTLETECH, and by extension, MechWarrior. Khajiit suspects he will be the one doing the majority of the posting in this thread, but knows that there are some MechWarrior2 fans around here and hopes you will feel free to post here too!

Can't add much myself. Played Mercenaries years ago and I only did the occasional mission, I never played the campaign. But it was fun. I don't remember which mech I preferred but it was one of the bigger ones, obviously. I do remember I liked the machine gun/rocket combo or similar.

Gotta love the TimberWolf! MechWarrior2 has a really good soundtrack!

Nice! Khajiit wishes he had a machine that would run MW2. He only played the PlayStation version back in the day. Khajiit is sure it was a heavily watered down version but this one still loved it and would like to play it as the developers intended.

Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries is now also free to download. It is abandonware, so it is completely legal.

Khajiit believes you’ve told him about this before! Will definitely look into trying this. Only thing that makes this one hesitant is that on Amazon it appears you have to buy the game cds from individuals, which is a little unnerving.

I came across a working copy of all three Mechwarrior 2 games - original, Mercenaries, and Ghost Bear's Legacy here. It works with Windows 10, and is a very simple install, without having to screw around with any settings. So far I have only tried the original MW2, but it ran ok. My only trouble is that I could not get my Logitech Wingman Extreme joystick to work correctly with it. But it will worked with keyboard and mouse.

The same person also put up a link to all Mechwarrior 1 - 4 games in the top reply to this post. I am downloading it now.

All this stuff is abandonware of course. So its legit to download it.

I have since experimented with all 3 games in the MW2 trilogy, and they all work. I did two missions in the Wolf Clan storyline of the original MW2, one mission in Ghost Bear's Legacy, and an instant action mission Mercenaries.

I still can't get my joystick to work. But it is doing ok with my mouse and keyboard. I just wish I could lower the mouse sensitivity, but there does not seem to be a setting for that.

In any case, it is a fun blast from the past. Even the music is working, which I had feared it might not since there are no cds.
