Previous Thread

QUOTE(Alexander @ May 29 2005, 10:47 AM)
We had intended the coffee shop to be a nice place where people could talk about their daily activities and such, kinda like the Lurkers Lair on the Official Forums.
It didn't quite turn out that way though, people have been taking advantage of their freedoms in here, there has been a lot of spamming and even some flaming. We will not tolerate that any longer.
So unfortunately we've had to decide to increase the rules for this thread. Of course the normal forum rules still apply, but we'll elaborate here.:
1. No spamming.
We consider double posting and posting posts with only a few words to be spam. If you do that your post will be deleter or moved, do it too often and you might receive a warning for it.
We also consider chit-chat spam. This forum has a special chat channel for chatting, you're welcome to go there, and chat with other members or with the staff as we're always there, doing it in here is not allowed.
The address to that chatroom is:
W4O chat
And for assistence to use a chat like this, I recommend looking over this thread:
http://forums.waiting4oblivion.com/viewtopic.php?t=248
Or contacting one of the Administrators.
2. No discussion of accounts or warnings.
There shall be no more discussion about members, about accounts, about how many warnings you've gotten or anything like that.
3. No trolling.
No posting of random nonsense, no posting of irrelevant things, no posting the same thing over and over just to get it noticed, no swearing or flaming.
4. No religion or politics.
No discussion about religion or politics is to be had in these threads. If you want to discuss religion or politics, please do make another thread, or if another such thread already exists, please post in it.
If you have a question about the rules of the forums, feel free to ask it to either a Global Moderator or an Administrator.
If you're unsure if something is fit to post here, it might be. Again best to ask a Global Moderator or Administrator.
If you're wondering how we think a Lair or the Coffee Shop should look like, what we do allow, then I recommend taking a look at the Lurkers Lair at the Official Forums.

Have fun, but follow the rules smile.gif

QUOTE(Alexander @ Jan 27 2006, 05:10 PM)
that's actually pretty cool. Just think about it, should they ever reach stardom, you'll reach it with them and fame and fortune alongside them.

And on the other hand, if they don't make it, at least you'll have some great memories and stories to tell your kids and grandkids and have great times with them smile.gif
*

Are you kidding? If they reach stardom, they'll have replaced me (as far as my use to the band) long before. I mean, they'll have gotten a new manager (a professional one), a real studio and a good editor (instead of a kid who uses tape recorders and freeware programs), and generally replace every use they have for me. If they reach stardom, I probably won't be a star with them. A fan, yeah, sure. Still friends, yeah. We're good friends, and we have been for a few years. But I'll be just be the guy with the free backstage passes, the guy on the tour bus with them. I'll just be there, not really all that useful for anything, just a friend and a fan.
Not that I mind. The memories are what's important. (besides, I'm too camera-shy/introspective to enjoy stardom much, I probably wouldn't like it too much. I guess I'd be better off just being a fan) Besides, the odds of any band becoming famous, well, I'm not gonna calculate them, but the odds are slim.

Again, the memories are what's important. Being famous isn't important. Not to me, anyways. If the idea of being famous was important to me then I'd...well, I'd be depressed, I guess. biggrin.gif Realist first, cynic second, pessimist third, optimist rarely.

The memories are important, yeah, but, of course, the other reason I made the offer is that I like playing around with audio files. But finished songs are such a pain, they already sound RIGHT the way they are, they don't need more finetuning, so I need to work with something a bit different. (I swear, what he turned Metallica's Sad But True into, well it was a monster when he was done with it. But it was a funny monster.)

Heh, I know of four bands at my school, none will ever reach stardum, ever. Actually, since converting to bassist I've become quite a well sought product at my school. I completely, totally suck at this point because I don't even own a base, but it's still kind of cool. I know like 6 chords, and that's all a bass really needs.

So what, you borrow a bass (sp? I don't think it's base, although that's how it's said) from whichever band you are playing with? Or use one from the school?

I avoided saying that my friend's band would never reach stardom for just that reason, it's my friend. I'm supposed to at least pretend there's a chance. And, in fact, there technically is. Like if I blackmail an executive at a major record label. smile.gif That's a chance. Technically.

Base was a typo. And, it's not like anyone thinks they'll be famous, you form bands because you like playing music, not because you want to be famous.

I wasn't sure. If you had said, "No, no, base is right," I'd still be clueless. smile.gif

Yeah, being famous is a fringe benefit of being both really good and really really really lucky. But I know someone who absolutely hated playing music and tried setting up a band for the sole purpose of getting famous. That band lasted untill the rest of his band told him that he had to do something too, or get out. But yeah, 99.999999999% of all bands are set up to play music, not to get in at the A-list parties.

Vegetarian? Bah! You know how long you'd last at sea as a vegetarian? Years. But that's not the point!

Hehe, I love some Vegetarian bread, and I'll take some Coffee too. And a danish. And a few Creullers. And a Roll.

Hello Summer! Nice to see new people here that make themselves known. Now start working on that post count!

Yes, red, have plenty.

I must say, it's nice to see new folk's as well, I love the fact that we're getting bigger and bigger.

So, last week, we've had a huge nightmare of homeworks, that includes, a:
40 inch essy, two books (each over 300pages) that has to be read up til wedensday, and a lot of smaller essays.

You get essays in terms of length like that? We just get told we have to write 6 (copy) pages, or whatever.

Yup, we sometimes do.

The most f****** thing though is tye books we have to read, I mean books over 300pages, filled with all sort of stuff you need to know if you are going to be a constructive engineer.

Dang, that sounds quite aweful. Pretty much every week I write an essay, and being the over-achiever I am I leave it to the last day. Strange thing though, I get 80s and 90s on my essays because I pay close attentiion to grammer and spelling and always am about six or seven grades past my classes average reading level. In grade 8 my teacher said I write and read at a second year University level. Don't get me wrong though, I'm constantly talking out in class and have had problems with past teachers.

Uh... IMHO I think that, 'ability to read way past your grade level' thing is completely bogus.

First off at 4, I could read better then a good percentage of 80 - 90 year olds in my town (no joke).

By 7 I read better then all the kids that didn't try... And everyone else that did try was at my level or higher.

By the age of 13 everyone that wanted to read could read at a college level.

It all depends who its compared to. Compared to the person who doesn't care, I'm a freakin genius.

So.. at the end of my rant.. Never meant to sound to harsh, but I believe that whole reading above your grade level is only useful in a comparitive comparison of kids from 5 - 13.
