I recently saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Not scary per say although it had good effects.

And I gotta say, that president of yours was pretty badass. I mean, it was a documentary, right...? biggrin.gif

It was 100% accurate in the way that he was the president once.

I think the rest just miiiight be fiction.

He was also not quite as nice a guy as your average American was taught in school, not to diminish his accomplishments of course but there was a darker side many don't know about.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is another great documentary, this one about life (and undeath) in Regency England...

I got a good ghost story, it's about a Security Guard working a late shift at a haunted Pizza Restaurant and he's being attacked by possessed animatronics and he has to survive for 6 nights.

Those remind me of when Khajiit was a child of about 2 or 3, grandfather had some health issues (related to his smoking no doubt; it was a war he lost, eventually), and so was in and out of the hospital for a time. The hospital waiting room, for whatever reason, had one of those plastic skeleton models on a stand. Now, Khajiit couldn't have understood at that age what the skeleton model represented, but mom said this one shied away from the model, and when seated, pointed at it and said "ManMan". What the hell does that mean?

I decided to do a Let's Play of this gem: https://youtu.be/D1a8EBUni8s.
I'm familiar with the remastered version but I've always played as Jill, I could never get the hand of Chris's path, well I guess there's no better time to learn eh wink.gif .

Khajiit never got into the Resident Evil series. Not sure why, as it seems it would be right up this one's macabre little alley.

Anyway I got Part 2 of my LP processing, it's longer then the first episode all because I got lost and couldn't remember where to go to. Thankfully I figured it out happy.gif.

Never did Raven, but he partly knows why; third person from different angles. Can´t handle that wacko.gif

Also, I´ve never really liked Resident Evil overall. Though I did start to watch your LP, Reaper. But why are you wielding a knife? Didn´t your character have a gun just recently? tongue.gif

And how the bluck can you even see to shoot on the staircase? The enemy wasn´t visible blink.gif

Khajiit thinks part of the idea behind it was that ammo is scarce so it is wise to conserve. May be wrong about that though.

Posted by: mirocu Oct 19 2016, 03:39 PM

No, you´re probably right. It´s a survival horror game, not a pure shooter.

Chris for some reason doesn't start with a gun I guess he dropped it, normally you're suppose to head towards the first zombie (either kill it there with the knife or flee), return to the entrance then you get Jill's gun.

Anyway here's part 2, it's a little longer cause I got lost and couldn't remember where to go right away embarrased.gif .

1: Yes you need the Kerosene Flask and Lighter (or any other fire based weapon) to set the Zombies on fire or face the wrath of the Redheaded Zombie.

2: Both Christ and Jill can become poisoned but not infected.

Sorry I wasn't able to get Part 3 up PSN felt the need to do some maintenance which kept me from playing for awhile. I'll try to get Part 3 up tonight.

1: Yep---you don't properly dispose of a regular zombie it turns red and becomes faster. Another way to avoid this is to headshot zombies but I don't have the shotgun yet and headshots with the pistol can happen but its rare.

2: Or is it my real name?!
{dramatic music plays}.

As much as I love the Resident Evil Remastered version I kinda hate the inclusion of Lisa and being on Chris's path this isn't going to be fun since I don't have access to the Bazooka that Jill gets and ammo for the Magnum and Shotgun are pretty scarce.

Posted by: mirocu Oct 21 2016, 08:44 PM

Well, I really do like the playthrough regardless. Though I have to say it would have been slightly more enjoyable to follow Jill.

No reason hehe.gif

It's even better once you unlock Jill's Resident Evil 3 skin wink.gif. Still I've never really experienced Chris path fully as I've always used Jill, since that makes the game easier, then again I think that's way I did Chris---for an extra challenge. But once I've done his path I'll do Jill's happy.gif.

I watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoPsjWqvwT4 last night. It's a documentary on Netflix about sleep paralysis. I found it very creepy, especially since it's something I've experienced a few times and here are these people describing almost exactly what I've gone through.

The closer you get to finishing the Mansion the tougher it gets. I know I'm nearing the fight with either the giant snake or Lisa's father but we'll see. I do love a good steak burger! When I was on vacation near Pensacola Florida, I ate at a place called McGuires Irish Pub. Not only are they an awesome microbrewery, but they also have huge steak burgers of all kinds!

Oh yeah! I try to go there whenever I'm in the area. The first time I went, I didn't read the signs outside the bathrooms right and I ended up going in the women's restroom. It gets worse. When I went in it was empty so I didn't think anything was up. So I'm doing my business and then I hear "Oh no. Is there a man in here?!". All I could do was apologize and get the hell out as fast as I could, with downcast eyes of course, lol.

The time of daylight is getting shorter as that of darkness grows longer. The Earth tilts away from the sun, making those fewer hours of daylight a bit dimmer than they were a month or two ago. The air gains a noticeable chill, and the trees explode in a vibrant display of colors. October has arrived.

With a banshee shriek and a witch's cackle, something stirs. Pulling itself up as if a reanimated corpse from its grave. Finally free from its restless slumber, it is free to haunt Chorrol once again.

A ghastley mentions, the child dies. Turn on captions and you'll see an English translation of words. I'll seen better translations, more poetic. This the one provided gives you one basics.

Though already posted in another thread, I'll again link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BISnu9-eMVE, which somewhat fits this thread's theme.

Speaking of Tim Burton films:
Khajiit is watching http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0162661/?ref=m_nv_sr_1! This one always tries to watch it in October.

Well, I did just finish Clive Barker's Undying and now I finally restarted System Shock 2 after not playing it for so long. The spookiness is afoot!

Khajiit has been toying with the idea of trying to play BioShock again on PC. Game is suitably creepy but the very first cutscene in Rapture with the two splicers commenting on your semi-conscious body glitched and this really irritated this one since it was supposed to be the "Remastered" version.

Ooh! May even play the masquerade mission in Dishonored for old times sake.

Khajiit should! It's an awesome game, don't let that glitch stop you!

If I had let glitches stop me, I wouldn't have over 2500 hours of Oblivion gameplay now. Well, it wasn't a glitch I experienced when I started to play, but PC limitations... biggrin.gif

The spoopyness spookiness is afoot once more.

Speaking of spookiness, who else is following the progress of the Resident Evil 2 Remake? I sure am intrigued by it. The Resident Evil franchise and I have a bit of a history, going back to when I witnessed the original one at 5 or 6 years old and being absolutely terrified. It's hilarious to look back on now, but it seemed so real then. Cool to see a 20-year old game be made brand-new. The series has come quite a long way. Funny enough, though, I have played very little of the series. RE4 and REmake are the only 2 games in the series that I have beaten, with RE4 taking up the vast majority of my playtime in the series, and I have played very little of the other titles.

Khajiit never got into those games. Back then he wasn’t interested in horror games, but now that he’s older he probably would have checked them out. When Reaps did his LP of Resident Evil Remastered, it definitely looked like something this one would be interested in now.

You know what someone needs to do? Someone needs to rip the file of the skeleton scream from Daggerfall so that they could play it on a speaker. And then play it either when 1) Trick-or-Treaters come to their door, or 2) when they go up someone's door for candy. (Preferably b since I wouldn't want to legitimately scare little kids, but it would still be kind of funny.)

When Khajiit was a kid, we had a little sensor mat that connected to a speaker. When someone stepped on the mat, a scream sound effect would play from the speaker. We would hide it under our normal welcome mat so that when trick or treaters came around they would get a little start! When we first got it, one night mom was reading a scary book before bed. When she got to a stopping place, she went out to snuff the jack-o-lantern and forgot about the mat being there. biggrin.gif

Going to post some Jack-o_lanterns from Halloween’s past, since we are on the topic.

https://i.imgur.com/H8Zrkxq.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/XQP6aaN.jpg- really regret that this one was unfinished. Khajiit got really tired and left the snakes in a really rough state. This one thought the face itself turned out really good.

https://i.imgur.com/fBUXgML.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/UZ5fw1S.jpg- this one was inspired by E.A.Poe’s story The Masque of the Red Death. The skull is wearing a masquerade mask.

https://i.imgur.com/FPXxQvI.jpg- inspired by the vampire, Count Orlok, from the classic silent horror film Nosferatu.

Good on you. It’s good your church seems to have an open mind in regards to celebrating Halloween. In Khajiit’s experience, this isn’t always the case...

I don't have any real costume that I plan to wear. I'm just going to wear my Daggerfall shirt when I go to campus tomorrow. The Underking on the front is scary enough, right?

If only I could scream like the skeletons in that game.

I still have that playlist, I didn't do Jill's cause its mostly RE1 but in easy mode as you don't need Rebecca, small keys and not sure if the "infinite" grenade launcher glitch still works. The PS4 does a better job of doing Let's Plays on as the timer can almost go an hour, the Xbox only gives me ten min per clip so its only good at getting simple gameplay video.

I have been getting spooky with my TV. Last night I watched Them! The original from the 50s. It holds up really well. Not in effects. But in story. It was really good, with clever characters and a solid plot. I like how it does not fiddle around and spend 20 minutes just introducing the characters. It starts right in the action, with two cops finding a mute, shell-shocked child wandering in the desert. Within 10 minutes one cop is dead.

I really liked the sound the monsters made, and how they used that rather than show them to you for the beginning of the film. A horror classic.

I also started with the new Hellboy movie, with the sheriff from Stranger Things. I am a little over half way through, and it is not doing anything for me. So I don't think I will bother with more.

Goodness. Khajiit has been so busy that he forgot to raise this thread from the dead! Thanks to assistant Necromancer in Chief ‘Rocu for taking up Khajiit’s slack!

Well this year, Khajiit’s GF and Khajiit have been invited to a real life Halloween party so this one needed a costume for the first time in ages! Khajiit has decided to go as ‘Rocu! Well, maybe not actually ‘Rocu, but definitely one of his fine feathered kin. You see, this one’s lady is going as the D&D diety character “The Raven Queen”, so Khajiit is going as her little raven/crow creature/thing servant! Khajiit already has the mask (which is like a Venetian beaked style half mask that looks like a crow or raven), clawed gloves, boots, a hooded robe-ish thing, and the pants. Now he’s just waiting on the shirt and a balaclava to wear under the mask. Should be fun!

I started Spooky October by watching The Call of Cthulhu movie, made by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society some years back. I watched it with some of my neighbors, and narrated the intertitles in a 1920's radio announcer voice. It was fun. Today we are planning on watching the Whisperer in Darkness.

Well, as I'm sure many of you know, I'm not a big fan of zombies.

However, I started watching a new series on Netflix - La Revolution. It's a French series that is essentially an alternative history of the French Revolution - that it actually was because the French Nobles are necromancers/zombies preying on the common people.

In spite of my distaste for anything zombie-ish, I am enjoying this series.

Alternatively, on acorn.tv I've started watching a documentary called 1900 Island, a reality show about four families trying to make a living on a western Welsh island where the last fishing community died out 70 years ago. It's a striking contrast to modern life, and very interesting on a sociopsychological level . . .

Yep, I remember those too. The pinball one was creepy because it was in a mall at night and that there was no escape. The soup one, iirc, featured Dr. Vink (with a “Vuh Vuh” laugh.gif ). He was running a cooking school that also ran a restaurant, and he was feeding people soup spiced with a liquidized fear juice that he was able to magically extract from his students.

Changing gears a bit, https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pinterest.com/amp/ruthborgmann/second-empire-architecture/ is a gallery of Second Empire style houses. These are probably familiar because they tend to be associated with horror in pop culture. The house in Psycho/Bates Motel, and in Beetlejuice, as well as the Calvert Mansion and Blackthorn Hall from Fallout 3: Point Lookout are good examples of this kind of architecture. I think they are absolutely beautiful... and maybe a bit spooky!

Those are all good spooky houses. I can easily imagine the Scooby Gang poking around in any of them.

I got suckered into The Kingdom by the Korean court intrigue - by the time I realized “Oh, this is a ZOMBIE series!” I was too invested and kept watching. The second season just came out and I had to watch the first one all over again to refresh my memory. Well worth watching, zombies or no.

I have been having my annual Spooky October film festival. I started with Pitch Black, which may not be too spooky, but does have monsters. That led to Below, also by the same filmmaker who did Pitch Black.

That kicked off a slew of sea-borne horrors. Deep Star Six was the 80s personified, and a really bad movie. Who builds a nuclear weapon base on the bottom of the ocean? Then Leviathan, which was probably even worse. A few nights ago I did Ghost Ship, which was a really cool film.

In the pipeline is Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, and Virus.

And I took a detour from the ocean theme to watch Lost Boys today. Wow, it has been a long time since I saw that movie. It was another very 80s experience.

It’s not the ocean but does involve a “ghost ship” of sorts: Event Horizon. It’s been a while since I saw it but I remember it being very creepy and weird! You might add that to your list!

And yes, I would say Lost Boys should be in any vampire or Halloween film fest lineup. It’s classic!

I think I have seen Event Horizon relatively recently, so I am not really in the mood for it right now.

But I forgot to mention that I also watched the two new animated Addams Family movies with my neighbors. They were a lot of fun. Creepy, cooky, mysterious and spooky, altogether ooky. They really capture the essence of the old TV show. And Wednesday is great.

I had a very short spooky season this year due to road trips, but I managed to watch Hocus Pocus and Fright Night (2011). The scariest part was trying to pause a movie using the Xbox controller when someone rang the doorbell. We actually had trick-or-treaters this year! I gave one kid so much candy, he said "Oh wow!"

Today I have to go inside a Best Buy. I'm preparing myself to see a frightening number of Christmas decorations already up.

Sounds like you made the best of it!

I’m generally good with seeing the X-mas stuff as long as it’s not up before Halloween.

Khajiit’s Halloween was pretty quiet. We had one trick or treater on Saturday night (that’s when the powers that be in our area decided to have trick or treat because we “can’t have any of that Devil stuff on Sunday! Rabble Rabble!”) at future Mr. and Mrs. Khajiit’s country abode. It was our neighbor from the next house over, who just happens to be the person who got Khajiit and future Mrs. Khajiit together! She has a little one and brought him over. He’s also going to be the ring bearer in our wedding!

Also carved two jack o’lanterns which I may have pics of later.

I have been watching the Hellraiser movies for the last few weeks for my Spooky October. I am up to the 7th movie. Boy, a lot of these are... not good. Pinhead is a great villain. The character design is great, Doug Bradley brings a really creepy vibe.

But the rest of the movies are just, lacking. The first movie is practically a porn. It is mostly just lots of sex. Then when you get to the middle ones, where they only barely have anything to do with Pinhead and the LeMerchant Box. I wonder if they were originally intended to be Hellraiser movies, or if some studio exec decided to put 2 minutes of Pinhead in them and call them Hellraiser films (like with 10 Cloverfield Lane). I have never seen the ones I am on now, so I have no idea if they are going to continue that or not.

I did see the new Hellraiser movie. It was ok. I liked how they reimagined Pinhead and the other Cenobites. In the originals, they had a real goth leather and rubber fetish outfit vibe to them (it was the 80s and 90s, and that was shocking back then). They got away from that, and it was more bare, self-mutilated flesh instead.

The story was interesting. They did more than just have a person open the box and terrible stuff happen to them. They put in some lore where if you sacrificed a certain number of people to the Cenobites, they would grant a wish. Naturally, their wishes turn out to be nightmares. The only way to win, is to reject them entirely.

Without really thinking about it, I have been doing a Dracula fest. I started with Dracula 2000, which had Gerard Butler as the Count, and Jeri Ryan as one his wives. Then I did the Frank Langella version from the late 70s. After that I dipped into my old Universal films collection, and watched House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, both from the 40s.

Of course I also did Dracula: Dead and Loving It. I forgot that was a Mel Brooks movie. At least that was funny. Stupid funny, but funny.

Really, a lot of not very good movies! laugh.gif Though Dracula 2000 had some interesting ideas, with Van Helsing keeping himself alive for a century by injecting himself with Dracula's blood, and Dracula himself being Judas, cursed to live as a vampire after he hanged himself.

Next up I am looking at doing a Hammer Films Dracula fest. All the Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing I can stand!

Posted by: mirocu Oct 11 2023, 09:33 AM

Those were interesting movie ideas for sure. Liked the Van Helsing movie when it came out btw. Also the Kung Fu Abraham Lincoln was fun laugh.gif

Also also; Christopher Lee was awesome whenever he appeared on screen in whatever role he played biggrin.gif

Posted by: TheCheshireKhajiit Oct 11 2023, 01:42 PM

I remember Dracula 2000. The first time I saw it, I didn’t think much of it. The Judas angle was novel. Then I saw it a second time after having seen 300, and I was like “Holy crap! It’s the dude that plays Leonidas! As Dracula. Weird.” lol
