I've been emailing her for the past week and no response. Last week, her computer had broken, so I'm hoping that's the case again.

I’m afraid my report’s the same as Liz’s. mALX had dropped off the site for awhile with puter problems. When her puter came back up, we were talking via emails. Then about a week ago she dropped off from even that. Like Liz, I’m hoping it is just more puter problems. . . but like Kobby, I’m worried.

So let’s all keep our fingers crossed that our lovable flying squirrel will soon be back with us - safe and healthy.

Psssshhht. People are getting progressively dumber as time goes by anyways so you might as well embrace technology that makes life easier. Twenty years ago nobody had the vast expanse of information available that we have now. I hear someone talking about something that sounds like BS to me and instead of wondering if it's true I can pull up a window online using my phone with thousands of references that can tell me if the person is right or not.

Too much reliance on technology is crippling people but the fact of it is that an phone can't make you dumber unless you let it, which usually comes in the form of allowing technology that panders to laziness to replace actual intelligence or critical thought. I've actually found the ease of searching for information to be extremely useful across basically all aspects of my life.

Of course they can be very useful and as long as you don´t have everything in it and send your brain on permanent vacation you´re not getting dumber. I would have loved that kind of phone when I was in school but now I just don´t have any real use for one.

Besides, it´s always fun to show people my (old) flip-up phone that´s not only equipped with an outside antenna, but real buttons! Physical buttons!!!

I don't know about that statement. We're a tool-using species, and use of modern technology is nothing more than an evolutionary perogative; the iPhone is nothing more than the latest iteration of a long line of these tools that started with the rocks our ancestors used to crack nuts.

Despite popular misconceptions, humankind isn't actually being made stupider by the internet; studies have shown that the average information processing capacity of children growing up with the internet is actually much greater than that of those who didn't (admittedly this comes at the cost of shortened attention spans). People think that the internet has made us stupider, but the truth is this; people have always been stupid, but naturally people don't want to think badly of themselves, and all the internet has done has held up a mirror to humanity and made that delusion impossible. Humanity has always been stupid, and the internet has not made us stupid; the internet has simply removed our capacity to lie to ourselves and revealed the idiot within.

Actually I was specifically talking about features like autocorrect and voice activated searches damaging the necessity for us to actually use our heads for anything. Everything can't be on autopilot all the time or else nobody will ever learn how to fly.

I completely agree that widespread internet access has made people as a whole more intelligent and I cited a direct example of using this myself in my last post when I noted that I often use the internet to fact check people. I'm actually a big supporter of advanced technology, I just want people to be able to hang on to the aspects of human intelligence as well.

Another major problem I have is tied directly to social networking and the voluntary destruction of all privacy. Facebook for instance is a massive data harvesting site that sells information to various companies to help them market products to you but people line up to join and toss away the last shred of their private lives.

People keep saying "well, as long as you´re not a criminal what does it matter?"

To name only one out of so many examples, I say look at pre- and post WWII Germany, Russia, Italy etc. I bet most people there weren´t criminals as we define the word. However, the definition can be quite different to the leaders.
