Sorry, Rider. One thing after another sometimes it seems. Hope the GI folks can help.

QUOTE(haute ecole rider @ Sep 18 2018, 07:13 PM) *

Sorry to hear about the loss of your hero, Uleni. Several of my co-workers are MMA fans and practitioners (one is a black belt in tae kwon do, as well), so I know it's a big deal.

I'm sure some of you remember my bemoaning my eye problems back in July. It is mostly resolved - my ophtho suspects that I've become very sensitive to my long term glaucoma medication and switched me to a different one. We are now monitoring to see if it is as effective.

In the meantime, I've developed recurring diarrhea caused by C. difficle, a nasty intestinal bug that can overgrow the good bugs under the right conditions (in my case, clindamycin for an infected scratch). It responded to metronidazole, but came back a week after I finished that medication. Went on Vancomycin, which cleared it up, but again same story, back a week after the last dose. Now my primary care provider wants me to go to a GI specialist so we can figure out why it won't go away permanently. It's not a comfortable disease to endure - intestinal spasms, lower back pain, and chills/hot flashes, not to mention the frequent trips to the porcelain throne.

It looks like I will be out of work for another week (missed five days already) since the soonest the specialist can see me is next Wednesday (at least, the CNP - the Drs aren't available until November 1st). Sigh.

Oh dear, Haute! It sure seems like you take on the brunt of health issues, but somehow you always manage through them with the nicest of personalities and kindness to others! I don't know how you do it, but you will always have my best wishes and prayers for the speediest recovery with the least suffering! Hug_emoticon.gif

Best wishes for a permanent recovery.

@haute ecole rider:

C. difficile diarrhea recurs in about 20-30% of people, from my experiences as a doctor I'd say it's even higher, many patients with C. difficile which I treated, had a recurrence. Fortunately in our parts C. difficile infections are very, very rare, I don't know where you come from, but there are some parts like the USA and South America where it's much more common, which also means a higher chance of recurrence.

Vancomicyn was a good choice as long as you were taking it per six hours for minimally ten days. It's also a good choice for recurrences but ususally has to be taken either for ten more days or for a few weeks, depending on the severity of symptoms. Of course these guidelines can slightly vary among different world parts.

According to my experiences, the diarrhea usually passes after the 2nd recurrence but I don't use metronidazole as a starting medication, I think it's too weak.

Rider, I hope the GI folks can get you some relief. I have watched people recover from that, and it looks miserable. I'm very sorry you're going through this.

Thanks for the info, Lopov. It is much appreciated. I think I got the metronidazole initially because they needed to rule out Giardiasis first. I probably will end up taking vancomycin again, and we will see what happens when I see the GI specialist.

I have good days and bad days, but won’t return to work as long as the diarrhea remains frequent (more than once daily) as I won’t use the public restroom and put my teammates at risk.

It does, however, mean more time on ESO . . . .

So what you need now is a complete absence of symptoms, but a doctor's recommendation to play safe and stay away from others.

Hoping that's the way it works out! smile.gif

A rather stressful evening today for me.

The neighbor of my parents tried to commit a suicide by blowing up his house. Fortunately he succeeded only partially so the caused explosion was quite weak, nonetheless fire burst out in his house. I live about five minutes by foot from my parents, so I heard the explosion. My parents and the neighbor live in a twin house so let's better not imagine what would happen if his plan succeeded in full extent. He wasn't hurt at all so he's at psychiatry already, hopefully he'll be moved to some nursing home from there, because his schizophrenia worsened in the past years and culminated in today's suicide attempt.

The situation was even more stressful for my parents because four years ago fire caused by short circuit in a malfunctioning washing machine in our house almost completely destroyed all interiors.

This wasn't his first suicide attempt, he already tried one sixteen years ago by taking too many pills. Today's fire destroyed interiors of his house so it can't be lived in. The event already made it to our local media, don't bother with the text unless someone knows Slovenian biggrin.gif , but on the pics you can see his house, most visible in the 5th pic - his house is on the left, my parents' is one the right, my father's red Nissan Qashqai is parked outside their house. The explosion didn't cause any damage outside.

Oh, what a tremendous relief that your parents weren't harmed! They may need to have their home checked for Carbon Monoxide seeping through the walls from that man's duplex just to be cautious. Thank goodness they weren't hurt!

Thanks. They checked the CM concentrations in my parents' house yesterday late at night and they were normal, also because there's a so-called firewall between our and the neighbor's house, something which isn't normally used in modern buildings anymore.

That is good news. I hope they don't let that man return there ever again so your Parents don't have to worry about that happening again.

Glad your parents are ok. That is the utmost of selfishness. If you want to off yourself, fine, but do it in a way no other people get harmed. Geez.

Yeah, fortunately he's not sane enough anymore to set up a proper explosion.

Honestly, I hope so too, so do my parents. Though there weren't any problems with the neighbor, even when I lived back home, it's just better if he goes to some nursing home and receives proper care, even his own quality of life should improve if his schizophrenia would be treated appropriately.

I agree, I never understand why do some people commit suicide and take other lives by doing so.
