Chorrol.com _ The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited _ ESO Housing & Decorating

Thought we should have a thread that focuses in on the housing so we can come right here to search out tips for crafting furniture or decorating that we might pick up - or just discuss which houses we want; what our plans are for it; or even just how much gold we have amassed in anticipation, laugh.gif

Me personally - I absolutely LOVE that Redguard home at Hallin's Stand = Twin Arches! (73,000 gold). It is my favorite of the small houses; LOVE that house - and it has its own yard! But ... most def will have to do the Hallin's Stand town quest if you want to shop in the town, lol.

My first choice had been the Redguard house in Sentinel, but I learned in one Youtube vid that we can't decorate the rooftop patio on it - that was kind of a game changer for me; I mean - every rooftop in Sentinel has chairs/urns/pillows - except the Players? I am hoping that person's vid was wrong on that. (325,000 gold).

If I can swing it, I want that island Redguard home in Port Hunding = 1,295,000 gold, and I am not sure I'll be able to swing that one.

So far I have saved up: 795,000 gold.

My plans = when the Crown Store prices are posted, it may completely kill my plans to do this, but for right now my plan would be to hoard my gold I've saved up and buy my home furnished via the Crown Store.

That will give me funds to refurnish it, but also give me furniture to sit on in the 'tween (because I've seen via YouTube how expensive the furniture and decorations you can buy are) - and it may take a while to find the motifs/plans for furniture crafting (and find the mats, because my friend Aussie said they are not very easily found).

Eventually, I'll have it decorated to my own taste instead of the Crown Stores. But of course, all this depends on how many Crowns they will charge, lol.

So what are your plans? Which house has you the most excited?

For anyone who hasn't seen them yet, here are some vids on the housing available with the "Furnished" option active:

Yep, the Redguard houses are very nice looking.

Good idea about the thread. This one is sure he will have lots of questions when the time comes. How lucky for all of you! More Khajiit questions!

I have been pelting my friends who have been able to access the PTS server with questions, lol. I haven't been able to get on the PTS yet; I'm still fighting ESO on the PTS server saying that my computer isn't authorized to my account, grrrr.

I downloaded it, and haven't been able to access it due to my "IP address" changing at the same time I had changed email addresses and my credit card - ESO support is not the best since they dropped the mandatory paid memberships, they had to let over 150 employees go when they made that move. It was an executive decision because they weren't selling enough memberships and Crowns to keep the staff.

Wow, 150 employees? That sucks.

I haven't got on to the PTS yet either. The download is pretty big and I can't just leave my PC on for a week straight to download it all at once.

Yeah, it does. But I think they have farmed out their Customer Support to a 3rd world country now, it is ridiculously inept unless you get the actual developers team to help you. They are awesome and will work hard to fix something and call you, etc.

Posted by: Acadian Jan 8 2017, 11:03 PM

I've only had two things ever come up that required help from Zenimax. In both cases, they were quick, thorough and professional. It sure sounds like mALX is running into some substandard support though. kvright.gif

Oh, on the PTS, I appreciate those who do that. As for Buffy, 'Unpaid Beta Tester' is not among her titles. tongue.gif

Posted by: monkeyemoness Jan 8 2017, 11:22 PM

I never touch the PTS mostly because i don't want to bother with the download. Hell, I'm about to start an Oblivion playthrough, originally with OOO in mind but I decided against it because I'd have to install a bunch of addons. MOO it is!

Anyways, the only house i know for sure that I'm going for is the one in Fell's Run. The moment I saw it I thought "Yep, Eolan lives here." I also thought about the manor in the Argonian district of Stormhold for Rats, but I think she'd be better off in a low-key appartment. Maybe both? Still haven't decided for Jo'zira.

What I DO know is that each character will have their own house, and then there will be a big communal house where all three of them (and maybe some mules) hang out. Maybe make it into a crafting hall, but after the reveal of attuneable stations maybe I'll make that a separate building so I can have more of them.

Down the road I might even buy the manors. I can see it now: Lord Eolan (ha), Counselor Hates-White-Rats (haha), Clan Parent Jo'zira (okay, maybe). But like I said before, idk what I'm going to do with all that space.

Thank you for starting this thread, great idea! I can barely get the game to function on my laptop, so the PTS is out of the question. At least for now. We'll see about when I upgrade. I am a big fan of playing around with new content. biggrin.gif

Jerric is probably going to be satisfied with his room at the brothel. At least now he'll have a place to crash while he's eternally waiting for his turn. tongue.gif Lildereth has no interest in owning a home, but a couple of them fit so well into her story that I still can't believe it. Snugpod is adorable and very close to the burl-huts of her fictional world. We could just pretend it was much higher up. The Daggerfall house would work well for Darnand as a rented cottage, but I have the Fell's Run house in mind for him. The first time he walked through that area his heart just soared, which almost never happens. At the time I thought how cool it would be if they had player housing and he could live there. For him it will come down to which one holds the most bookcases.

I have to watch the videos some more to know which house it is, but there's one maybe in Reaper's March with desert rocks and water that my whole crew would love to visit if I bought it for some reason. I just have to figure out how it fits.

Anyway I'll have to see how expensive everything is to build before I go nuts buying real estate. Otherwise there will be a bunch of dark, empty houses standing around.

Thank you for posting and re-posting the videos! I had to stop the furniture one and race to my PS4 store so I could yank the Jejota runes off the shelf before they sold. I guess there's no such thing as extra junk for the moment. Yikes!

Also here's the UESP housing page for quick reference: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Player_Housing.

I just noticed something about the Craglorn Cave (aside from the fact that it's Crown Store only).
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shadowkey:Earthtear_Caverns Jesus, with all the references to the game I'm expecting to finally be able to visit Azra's Crossing or something. Unless there's a retcon in how Shadow Magic was developed it should exist by this point in time.

A little more on topic, it sounds like Eolan might have a neighbor. Having grown up in Evermore with Lake Halcion on one side and the dense Viridian Woods on the other, Fell's Run's valley had the same effect on him. He still has the http://esoitem.uesp.net/itemLink.php?&itemid=7314&level=29&quality=2 given to him by the locals.

Posted by: Grits Jan 9 2017, 06:17 PM

Neat! I love when locations are recognizable from other games. Awesome to hear a bit about Eolan's background. Darnand was a frequent visitor to Halcion Lake when his Enchanting Survey Maps all sent him there. Darnand is from Chorrol. I suspect that when his father relocated from High Rock, he chose Chorrol in part because the landscape and architecture felt familiar.

I dug around a little hoping to figure out some answers to my Homestead questions. Here's a nine minute video from Oma Games that helped me understand a bit more about furniture crafting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv076egDk4I.

It seems that the six new materials for furniture crafting will be harvested from existing nodes, not gained through refining. So I'm holding on to my Survey Maps in case those nodes have a chance to yield the new materials.

Another video implied that the Achievement-based furnishings were purchasable but not craftable. Maybe they are also craftable, but if they can be bought by the character who earned the Achievement that takes a little pressure off the crafter to do every single thing in the game.

The Daggerfall cottage lacks an outdoor area, so that one's off the list. Darnand is not prideful about most external things, but he is definitely proud of his horse. Got to have a place for Banner. Also we need more cats. I am going to buy him all of the cats. tongue.gif

Oh, I wonder if the pets that you place in your house will make their noises?

Holy crap! Did you see how many rune and racial stones some of these items take to make? Urgh ...

Wow, thank you so much for posting this, Hazmick! I need to start hanging onto my stones, I guess. I've been giving the Jejotas away free to the guilds I'm a member of in increments of 200 every week per guild, now I'm down to a very low number of them, urgh.

Yeah, it's pretty significant. I have 0 rune stones, so it'll take a while for me to save up.

Apparently some of the new furniture crafting materials have a pretty low drop rate too, which could make things a lot more frustrating. We'll just have to wait and see.

That vid is THE most informative I've seen yet on the crafting, thank you so much for that post !!!!

I think the pets do their animations and sounds - my mudcrab does at least; though Puffy didn't do any of her horsey animations, and the jackel seemed strangely subdued (though he did move off the pillow I have him).

That is what my friend Aussie said too, so I think holding out on picking up Surveys is a very good idea (kudos to Grits for thinking of that!)

In sticking with my plan to buy a furnished house through the Crown Store and then slowly replacing the furnishings with ones of my choice by buying or crafting out of my funds - I finally got my ESO account email issue worked out and restored my Plus membership, so I would be rolling in Crowns if I don't spend any between now and the release of Homestead, lol.

The PTS server gives you 5500 Crowns to spend so you don't use your own in the test server environment - it cost me every bit of that in under 12 hours decorating:

1 bottle of wine = 400 crowns
1 plate of food = 50 crowns

Etc. Very expensive, I think I can see me wanting to hunt/open/rob/kill every available spot I might find recipes or mats to craft my own, lol.

I did find myself buying the cheaper plainer stuff for 50 Crowns rather than spending 400 Crowns for the decorative stuff - and that is saying a lot, for me. I like pretty things, so for me to go plain was hard.

Plants were better = 10 crowns per each plant. (ferns for putting in pots for decorating, etc).

What I ended up doing in the end (because I ran out of Crowns) - The houses were only one Crown on the PTS, so I bought up 7 of the largest houses with my last 7 Crowns and TOOK everything out of them that was good = furniture, clutter, plants, decorating stuff, etc. - and brought it to my Port Hunding home to decorate; and pulled everything I didn't like in Port Hunding and stuck it in that Craglorn Cave (which was loaded with Awesome furniture, so I just kind of traded it out).

So this was a learning experience for me - I have enough gold (and Crowns, depending on how much the houses cost in the Crown Store) - to buy several houses or just one big one. I have to really think about how long it is going to take me to amass what I need to decorate the big house when prices are set on the real server; because it sounds like a really long process when you don't have other properties to swipe from, lol.

I think I'll do the same - buy with crowns then slowly replace everything with stuff that I craft myself.

I can't do writs at the moment, because Haa-Rei's crafting level is below his actual level so we can't get the materials we need to do writs yet :/ We're almost caught up though, so by the time housing is released I should have some stuff ready.

The Oma Games lady talks very slowly and does not jerk the camera around, which makes her a youtube hero in my book.

Some of the plan/blueprint/recipes do seem a little extreme. On the one hand I'm worried that I'll never be able to furnish the rooms, but on the other I'm happy that furniture crafting looks like it will be a long and satisfying journey with possibly no end. If there's one thing I'd change it's reducing the number of style items needed but requiring that the motif be known. Those poor racial motif books need some love. tongue.gif

I am going to be in a sweat every time I make or buy something until the insanely detailed player-made picture guides go up. I wonder if you can deconstruct things to get the materials back. Great idea to buy furnished and then slowly change things to what you want.

hazmick, Haa-Rei should be finding half nodes at his level and half nodes at his crafting skill rank. Elke was in the same situation. It took her more than a day to collect what she needed for writs, but it was possible.

mALX, thank you for the great tips from your PTS experience. Things make much more sense now just from reading how you described what you did.

I get motion sickness extremely fast with any jerky camera movements in gameplay vids; and like you pointed out - she talked slow enough that I was able to absorb what she was saying instead of having to rewind numerous times to "catch" something I might have missed like I have had to do many times with hyper narrators.

You brought up a question that came to my mind immediately after watching that vid you posted = will we be able to deconstruct the items we don't want in our homes and possibly gain mats from them - how awesome would that be !!!! I will most def ask if I get the chance.

Another question I had - will we be able to name our home.

At any rate, this is really exciting to me, I can't wait! In anticipation of the release, I upgraded Misa's woodworking to Master using up all her skill points except two. So she is Master of Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking, and Enchanting. If it comes up that we need master crafting in Provisioning or Alchemy too; I may just start handing the recipe/plans over to Bubba, who is master of all 6 crafting disciplines.

OH! I saw something exciting in that vid too - crafting clutter !!!! I want to be able to make a plate of food and put it out without paying 50 Crowns for it, lol. How awesome will it be to clutter up our own homes - I would rather do that than have the Ruby Throne or some Elder Scroll, rollinglaugh.gif (but that is just me, lol).

Posted by: Grits Jan 9 2017, 10:59 PM

The clutter stuff is what I'm the most excited about. Jerric agrees. He does not need a Ruby Throne when he has a perfectly good bucket. tongue.gif I can't wait to find and craft all of the little things that make a space personal.

You said it all right there = this. I spent 12 hours stealing ferns from different houses (after I ran out of funds and couldn't buy any more from the Crown Store) just to have that extra little touch in those empty vases they had.

Here is a good example; this Courtyard was totally empty except for two awnings:

Courtyard: http://i.imgur.com/PPPwAeF.png

Each cup you see on the tables full or empty was 50 Crowns; each bottle of wine was 400 Crowns. Those decanters = 400 per each too. The ferns in the pots were only 10 Crowns each, but in a mansion of this size - I used A LOT of them. There is plates of food on some of the tables at 50 Crowns per each plate of food.

But without that clutter, this place looked barren. Now it is kind of an awesome place we could have a guild meeting if we wanted to. So I can't wait to be able to craft the stuff myself and farm the mats - keep my gold for other things, lol.

Now all that's needed is the price they go for from vendors to gauge whether it's better to craft them or buy them off of vendors.

This list is Awesome! Thank you so much for posting this!

Posted by: Grits Jan 11 2017, 12:51 PM

monkey, thank you for the list! What a fantastic resource.

Glancing through it seems that while many items require ranks above 1 on multiple crafts, none seems to require higher ranks in multiple skills within each craft line. In other words I think that a dedicated furniture crafter could get away with spending points in only the first skill of each crafting line, while a dedicated Clothier, Enchanter, etc. needs to spend points in most if not all of the skills within their craft lines. Does this seem right?

ESO Fashion has a great deal of housing information up, including a furnishings section with pictures. Make a fresh cup of tea before you go, and be prepared to spend some time browsing. Woo!

Looking at the purchase requirements I realize that it will be a while before my PC crew will be eligible to buy much until they get through some more of the Alliance quests. Might start with the Cyrodilic Jungle House and figure that by the time they get to where we can buy the others, they will have recouped the money.

Jerric has decided (without actually going there, lol) that Sleek Creek in Reaper's March will make a good party house. He is EP, so there is a long road between him and the requisite achievement. If they wanted to get people to go out and do the quests, I think they found a way!

One of the things I'm hugely disappointed with coming with the addition of Homestead is the Master Writs. It is a ridiculous exploit - of the Player.

Twice I've had Master Writs in Enchanting requiring both a Kuta and a Hakeijo.

Hakeijo cannot be found in the world, they can only be bought for minimum 10,000 gold from Guild Stores. Kuta cost approximately 5000 gold to buy from Guild Store; but at least they can be found in a Player's travels if they have access to farming runestones). The third rune was approximately 90.00

So you can pretty well figure that Writ cost me 15,100 to craft. I turn it in, and the guy gives me 300 gold and a couple points toward buying something from his list of house furnishings! Not even any runes or mats to replenish my supply like the regular Writs give - not even close to the gold and XP I earn doing the regular Writs!!!!

and the stuff he has to buy = The lowest cost thing he has is like 8 of those points, and the item is something no one would buy, like a thick wooden cup or something. So I have to do 3-5 of these Master Writs to get a thick wooden cup?

He has the Ebony armor motifs for 25 per each piece of equipment; and you only get a couple points per writ to build up to purchase - meanwhile you are blowing all your mats and getting literally nothing back for them!

I wrote a bug report on it and complained, that is just plain ridiculous.

They need to stop displaying their greed so obviously and remember - it is a game, when it is no longer fun to play = the members will leave and find a new one that is. It would save them a lot of money just to make this one enjoyable so they could retain their customer base and bring in new members - people would want to continue to buy crowns, etc. They don't need to strongarm us.

Doing stuff like this = a lot of their member base is talking about leaving the game, and they sure won't get any new members in with stuff like that going on. You can't outright rob someone and them be happy with you or want to join you.

I tend to agree, mALX. I'm active on the ZenOfficial forums and you're not alone in expressing concern about what appears to be a growing counterproductive greed from the Crown Store. Crown crates. Overpriced stahlrim motif without enough mimic stones to even craft one set. A massively overpriced elk mount. Pricing decisions regarding housing do not sound promising so far - although that is still in beta and subject to improving (we hope).

I get that they need money to run this wonderful game. That is why I pay for ESO+ and own most costumes and several pets.

There is a line between willingly buying fair-priced nice things from the store while feeling like you are supporting the game, however, vs overpriced stuff leading to resentment and eventual boycott.

Considering that you're on the PTS, these are things that you can totally give feedback on and apparently enough people have, considering they're decreasing the chance of getting a gold-level request from them with a recent patch to the PTS.

But yeah, Hakeijo glyphs are probably going to break a few people and it's bizarre how little vouchers those Writs give out. Considering that higher-tiered Writs like Nirnhoned Gold weapons give around a hundred (last I checked) vouchers, I get the feeling someone must've goofed somewhere?

I wonder if they'll end up decreasing the excessive material requirements for furniture crafting, too.

Bold: I hope so, it kind of makes no sense that you don't need a lot of wood/cloth/metal; but need a bunch of racial stones and tempers!

Example: Making a bed requires Bast (6, but these drop at a good rate), Heartwood (4, these also drop at a good rate), Racial style stones like Redguard = 20 (and these are hard to come by in mass amounts) - and Hemming improving temper (9 - and these are very hard to come by).

And this is just for one bed!

That is only 6 of the cloth ingredient, and only 4 of the wood ingredient - but 20 of the racial style ingredient and 9 tempers to improve it?

That really makes no sense, it is way out of balance - like they are trying to make sure it costs out the butt to make stuff and since you can't find tempers by farming and they barely drop in refining and deconstructing - it kind of forces you to use your Crowns to furnish your house (unless they plan to increase the drop rate of these things).

It seems like they are trying to make this an effort in futility for us while they manipulate our spending more money to buy more Crowns to decorate. They aren't very subtle about their greed in this, I hope they rein it in a bit before the release.

I've amassed a little over 1.6 million gold and I'm honestly considering getting a large house and do the sitcom shared house thing for a while until each of my three chucklefucks get enough for a house of their own. Y'know, so I can figure out what house they're getting and all so I don't waste money on houses I probably won't use. I figure it's better this way since making around 300k for medium houses isn't all that hard.

In other news, the Aldmeri Dominion inn room fits Jo'zira's backstory perfectly and I love that.

That Aldmeri room is cute! Oh, does anyone know = if we have three characters - one in each of the different Alliances; can we get the free room in each Alliance, or can we only get one free room per account?

By the way, really enjoyed meeting Jo'Zira yesterday!

Oh, and I was very happy to note that they DID rein in the ridiculous number of racial stones per item of crafted furnishings - going from 30 each item down to 5 = thank goodness!

So far the voucher issue is still ongoing.

My console crew has passed the million mark, which makes me seriously consider one of the large houses. The Imperial style is my favorite. I've read some things about them changing the furniture from the Colovian style that matches the dark stone of the houses to the style that they have on the Gold Coast, though. Also that Colovian- Imperial furniture might be a Crown-only thing, not purchasable for gold or craftable. So I will wait and see. PC will have Homestead for a while before I get it on the PS4 anyway, so I may have a better idea by then.

Unsurprisingly the outdoor areas and views are the most important for Jerric. He likes that he can fish not far from Autumn's Gate, which he thinks of as Elke's House. It may end up as Elke's Empty House. I hate to think how long it will be before Elke can actually craft any furnishings!

What do you folks think is a good amount of gold a character should keep on their person? Mira is currently carrying around 50k+ and Feng has around 20k+. So maybe, say 2000g for each character?

Posted by: hazmick Jan 24 2017, 10:28 PM

I just have everyone carry what they've earned, I never put gold in the bank. Once housing comes out I'll get Haa-Rei and Cirinwe's place sorted first, then they can send gold to Lagakha and Tsarakiri for their respective accommodation.

Most of my crew don't spend much, but Haa-Rei's armour repairs are usually about 1000 gold and he also needs to keep stocked up on food and riding lessons.

When Buffy hits the bank, she lightens herself down to 1K. Mostly for the stables. If she's going to shop with the guild merchants, she loads herself up with some bank gold first.

Before going out dungeon crawling, I will pick up 1,000 just for armor repairs if needed. Otherwise, just for a mats run or something - no more than 500. If I am going shopping at wilderness guild stores, I'll usually bring about 25,000 to shop with; but I usually only do that when I have something specific I'm looking for.

Posted by: TheCheshireKhajiit Jan 25 2017, 04:03 AM

Thanks for the opinions folks. On one hand, Khajiit likes to have the total amount on a character's person. On the other hand, it would be nice for this one's low level characters to afford basics like extra bag space, so withdrawing some funds from the bank would be a good idea.

Posted by: Grits Jan 25 2017, 01:48 PM

My characters visit the bank daily to swap goods and deposit gold over 1,000. New characters get a care package from the rest of the crew that includes some starter basics plus a bag of gold to buy pack upgrades. Then they level to the point where they make at least 250 gold from one writ so that they can train their mount every day without making a withdrawal when they are not adventuring.

When someone is in shopping mode(for example collecting motif chapters) they keep their daily income from writs plus they get the mail from items that have sold in the guild stores. That usually fills their purse enough, but if they need more I don't hesitate to get gold out for whatever they need. With crafters, merchants, and adventurers all supporting each other I never considered having each character keep track of their own expenses and earnings.

Bold: Ditto. I put everything in the bank where I know exactly their combined net worth at all times. There are just too many characters and would get too involved having to account for each. The pot is drawn from for needs of any; (and all of them contribute to it by doing daily writs).

I like decorating the outdoors better than the indoors, lol. I built a secret Molag Bal (cult worship) secret meeting place with all kinds of Achievement items; a place for lovers to meet on the beach; some nice stables; etc. - and a bunch of tavern style outdoor cafes (that was my favorite thing to make in Oblivion and Skyrim modding too, lol).

Wow, that’s amazing! What creative use of building materials! Thanks for showing us that!

I’m excited to see how everything is going to work and to go check out the furnished houses. It will be a while before I can buy any, but after tomorrow I’ll have a plan. From what I have read it seems that the medium and large houses both have a 12 player limit. At this point I think I’ll shoot for the Sleek Creek (medium) house and furnish it slowly as Elke and Pog’s crafting skills allow, but the Crown store offerings may change my mind. I like Sleek Creek for the outdoor areas and view. Even with just a fire pit and some cushions it should be a good place to party. (And go fishing!)

Posted by: monkeyemoness Feb 7 2017, 12:11 AM

I've narrowed down my "communal" house option to these three, in order of most likely to be picked:

1. Strident Springs Demense
2. Matiisen Manor
3. Forsaken Stronghold

I had a huge effort post of why I considered them that I could easily copy-paste, but nah.

Best part is I'll have enough left over to get medium houses if I wish (especially if I go with Matiisen Manor). Definitely getting Ravenhurst for Eolan.

Posted by: mALX Feb 7 2017, 03:16 AM

I went ahead and bought the Hunding house (furnished) from the Crown Store. It was too good a deal to pass up, I was so tickled by how low their prices were!

Chorrolites are set up as approved visitors already, in case anyone wants to visit!

The interior is furnished; but there are some things I plan to change/improve if I have enough Crowns left over to do it (or find the right recipes, lol). I most def want to at least do something in the courtyard so it isn't so empty, lol.

They amazed me with how low their prices were on the furnished versions!

Posted by: Grits Feb 7 2017, 03:33 AM

monkey, I love Strident Springs. It combines my favorite architecture with my favorite outdoor setting.

mALX, congratulations! I'm glad you got the Hunding house, it's the one that you have sounded the most enthusiastic about. I'm looking forward to visiting!

Exciting! biggrin.gif

I'll definitely pop over and visit, mALX! My house permissions are also open, so anyone can drop by whenever they like.

I went for unfurnished with Humblemud, so I'm hunting down furniture blueprints. There's a 'Mimic Hist Tree' for sale at the furnisher in Shadowfen - Haa-Rei NEEDS that in his garden. Ciri also wants an Auridon cherry tree, so that goes on the shopping list too.

I've found that there is a regular furnisher and achievement furnisher in each zone (even DLC ones), and each offers zone-specific items. Lots of cool stuff to choose from.

Yeah, i was really torn over how high it was in Gold in spending that much - it would have left me broke in both Gold and Crowns furnishing it. This way I've got some Crowns left and all that gold I had built up - I feel much better about the whole thing now!

And you are right, I don't think I would have been as happy with any other place. There were several I liked, just not as much.

I'm legit considering buying a furnished house with Crowns. I'm probably going to wait for a sale, though. I'm buying Crowns for the Face/Body markings anyways.

Until I make a decision, I'm just hunting down furniture plans. I think I have enough to make a mismatched set of furniture now. I just need to farm for the materials to craft them with. Outside of surveys, the materials seem to drop from almost every other node for me, so there's that.

D'AAAAWWW!!!!! That is AWESOME !!!! You have a great talent, I was instantly able to recognize your characters! (the armor on Jo'zira is the one worn at our last meeting!!! ) Amazing job!

I keep finding furniture crafting blueprints, but none of them are the ones I want so I just have to read them to clear my inventory. Is anyone after a specific racial style or anything? I'd much rather send this stuff to someone who will actually use it.

Khajiit is doing the same. Just learning what he can.

I have specific decorations in mind, but honestly I'm just learning everything I find just in case I or someone else wants/needs it in their home. Options are great. Right now I'm mostly concerned with getting an Altmeri single bed in my Mara's Pub. I can currently craft only Dunmeri single beds, but I'm willing to trade a crated bed for it.

I need these recipes/plans:

Redguard: Almost anything

High Elf: Beds, Dividers, Chairs, Stools, Benches, Desks, candles

Dark Elf: Carpets, stools, counters. candles

I have found a purple quality Wood Elf tent (plan/recipe) that I'll trade for something I need if anyone wants it. I haven't had as much luck finding things, but traded some stuff this morning for a Dark Elf wall shelf recipe/plan.

Even Eolan is smiling! wub.gif

Now that I’ve checked out some houses in person I find that I love the smaller ones. The fireplace is the most important feature, according to Jerric. Autumn’s Gate looks like the unfurnished version comes with a fire already in place. I wonder if that’s for real or a mistake.

Jerric is going about business as usual since Pog is too low level to craft much furniture yet. So far he has found two furniture plans. The materials seem to drop at a decent rate, which is a relief.

Does anyone have a working fire yet? I am confused because some of them look great while others look like only glowing coals and give off very little light. I wonder if they have an on/off like the candles, or if some of the fires just aren’t very nice.

Both. There are fires that are just glowing embers, and fires that are good fires for a fireplace - and can be toggled off so they aren't as bright; the flames go down close to the wood and don't throw off as much light. I think the difference may possibly be between 50 crowns and 10 crowns on the fire or without fire, unless prices have changed from the PTS server.

Neat, thanks! I can send over some materials in exchange.

But yeah, the empty houses come with at least one free light source. The quality and quantity depend on the house. Jo'zira's "abandoned" Auridon room has some basic furnishings now, though I could barely fit the bed in there. It almost looks like my old room, actually, and I don't know how to feel about that. Once I get some book stacks it'll be complete. For no good reason other than RP.

Thanks to Tsarakiri's...hard work... we were able to afford a mimic Hist Tree today - it's a perfect fit in the garden! We also bought some authentic Shadowfen rocks for Venatrix the lizard to sunbathe on.

Unfortunately this has left us with absolutely no money, so we'll have to keep working hard in order to afford a cherry blossom tree for Ciri, and then a home for Tsarakiri. It's kind of nice to have things to work towards like this.

Thanks, mALX! I will keep digging through the lists. The fire logs that Jerric bought to try filled up his whole room, but not with fire. Probably for the best! laugh.gif

hazmick, congrats to the new homeowners! I love that house because of the garden. The location is great, too. I agree, it's fun to have things to shop, gather, and save for.

The placement of the bed in that room is crucial to the comfort of the room because of the tiny size and shape of that room. I played around a while before finding that place for the bed, after that the desk and dinner table fell right into place and left plenty of room for stacks of books, lol.

I'm not positive since my Crown Store furnishings ability hasn't worked since the release of housing; but on the PTS it was under "Lighting/Fires" - I think.

I got my first Redguard recipe from Hazmick today, that was so awesome - and sweet!

I have been farming all day for furniture recipes/plans; and - not doing very well. I did find an Orc block counter if anyone wants it. Other than that I found a Breton Bookcase that I did read; and an Orc bowl that I did read.

By now I would have bought what I wanted from the Crown Store, but it is still broken on my game. verysad.gif

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to duel each other in my courtyard before I find any furnishings for it, that would be a perfect spot to do it! laugh.gif

I did the same with the bed, but I never would have thought to use the tapestry as a rug. Although I'm going for a messy "shut-in" look for the room, I might steal that idea for myself.

Anyways, Eolan bought and moved into Ravenhurst, http://i.imgur.com/vaDjKnd.png Also I don't know that classic house cat's deal. He was the original Winceslaus before the Abecean Ratter Cat replaced him. I'll just pretend he's a recent adoption. And probably an Alfiq bumming off of Eolan by pretending to be a stray. (I mean, it's right in the flavor text, that its particular breed is a distant Khajiit relative, even if it's meant to be unreliable at best.)

I DID find several Breton-style furnishing blueprints shortly after, though! Including a blue-rank desk that I was unable to craft because I used up my Regulus and Heartwood making furnishings for the inn room. So there's that. (for reference, I can also make an open drawer, an amphora for plants, a trestle dining table and a blue-rank clay lid??? in Breton style)

I'll start letting visitors in once I get the houses in decent shape.

Thank you! I played and played with that bed before finally finding that sweet spot! And I don't care much for that particular rug, but it was the right size and added a touch of color.

Also, that was done on the PTS server, where all the furniture is all but given to you - in the real game where I have to search for furniture plans and can't find them = my rooms only have a bedroll in them now, lol.

Ooh, you learned how to make those candles? Awesome! Those cats are really cute!

Posted by: mALX Feb 8 2017, 08:03 AM

I got all three free hotel rooms, so it is possible to do that. So far the Crown Store is still offline on my game, urk. So it looks like until I learn how to make some things, these rooms will stay empty or with just a bedroll.

Posted by: Grits Feb 8 2017, 12:15 PM

mALX, that room looks great! I’m amazed that a bed even fits in there, and you made it look cozy. The Crown Store is acting funny for me, too, but if I go back to it right away after it tells me that it’s down, it works fine. I hope it starts working for you.

monkey, congrats to Eolan! I love that house. I thought the same thing about the spotted “housecat.” An undercover Alfiq could make things interesting for the homeowner. blink.gif

Elke has almost gotten her Vulkhel Guard apartment, then the crew will need to get busy questing so they can purchase (and afford) their houses. Jerric is unsurprisingly not much of a decorator. He feels perfectly comfortable in his austere http://i.imgur.com/G04lg3P.png. I think he’s spent too many nights locked up in the drunk tank. tongue.gif

Jerric would look comfortable sleeping on a rock, and he really does look at home no matter what is around him (or isn't, in this case, lol).

Thanks for your kind words about the room = that was done on the PTS server where access to all the furniture was free to me, I had access to every furnished house in the game for one Crown a piece and could just yank whatever I wanted out of each house to put into my little rooms - plus was given 5500 Crowns per day to spend buying anything I wanted from the Crown Store.

In the real game and without all that free access = my three rooms each have just a bedroll in them (and may be that way for quite a while due to the cost of mats in crafting. Making the three bedrolls used up a bunch of my stored resources!

The difference in the real game (vs the PTS server) of having absolutely no access to furniture and having to search for each piece (or pay real world money for it via the Crown store) - I think we will all be in austere circumstances together for a while. I am kind of stunned that they didn't have any NPC vendors just selling beds, rugs, etc. for gold (instead of the housing vendors just selling trees and rocks).

On the PTS server, I did put in a big complaint about that. They gave us no way to buy any actual furniture for our homes using gold, it is either buy with Crowns or craft them (and good luck finding the recipes).

And to craft them, they require a really high amount of mats, too. My friend Aussie used up half her inventory last night making one pumpkin!

Thanks for the tip on the Crown Store access, I will most def try that!

And whenever I get the access to furniture to do it = here is what I had done with the Ebony Flask room on the PTS server:

http://i.imgur.com/ggt3ZnX.png

(and that was made before I learned that they didn't make sitting accessible on that comfy pink sofa for some reason. As soon as I realized that couch and tuffet couldn't be sat on: I changed them out for furniture that could be actually used = a stool to replace the tuffet, and the other pink couch for the sofa).

Hazmick - I saw your house last night, that is Awesome! I LOVE the achievement stuff you have there, especially the Hist Tree! That thing is huge, I thought it would completely take over that courtyard, but it fits perfectly in it! And also the ones inside you have - LOVE that stuff!

I am def keeping my eyes out for a real bed and one of those cute chests; and those nice wicker shelf units, etc. (Argonian style) .

Yes, I wanted to sit on cushions; the hard wood ones do not look very comfortable for sitting! But OH! I noticed one tuffet in game was suddenly sit-able yesterday; hadn't been the day before because I had tried it! And the day Homestead was released the Crown store was selling different colored tuffets suddenly - they didn't have those on the PTS at all! So, I hope that was a good sign! That is my favorite couch, especially since it has the matching tuffet. But unsit-able made it unusable for me.

Thanks on the room - that was the first room I did, and I continued to go back to it and spend time - it felt really comfy and nice in there!

Thanks! Yeah I was worried the Hist might be too big but it's a perfect size for that corner - managed to fit it in without any clipping through walls.

I've encountered an annoyance today though - the floor of the house isn't level. Took me a few minutes to put a rug down and it still clips through the floor in places. I think I'll have to get some sort of wooden planks and make a proper floor.

There is a clipping issue with the floor in that ourtyard at the Hunding place too - only noticeable if you are putting a carpet down.

Thanks to Haa-Rei and Buffy, I have a good start on some things I need to get the courtyard going up! Table, chairs/benches - even a nice cart for yard decoration! I can't wait to get it set up!

Posted by: mALX Feb 9 2017, 03:26 PM

** Any visitors to the house might notice some new items!

There is a nice cart set up by the stables, and a new table set up in the courtyard = Thank you Hazmick!!!!

Then as you step inside the house via the front door, you may notice there are now two benches to sit on in the entry hall = Thank you Buffy !!!!

Really awesome surprises, thank you both so much!

I haven't gotten any Master Writs yet; but when I do get them the first thing I'm going to shoot for is getting the standard crafting stations set up in that courtyard (like I had them set up in the screenshots) - or if there is a way to buy them with gold. (I can't afford the thousands per each Crown Store price).

But with those set up, you can instantly (and free) travel from anywhere to the house and do your basic crafting - even travel there from inside dungeons.

(And then in the far distant future I hope to eventually get a target skeleton and start setting up attunable crafting stations there with input from everyone about which).

I didn’t realize that you could fast-travel from anywhere to a home for free. I thought you had to go from a Wayshrine or travel to a player who was already there. That adds immense value to homes! Some of them are very handily located.

mALX, Elke stopped by your Stros M’Kai mansion today – it is gorgeous! Private beach!! Yay! I love how you have arranged conversation groups and put the fire pits inside. Very nice!

Elke finally got the keys to her Mara’s Kiss room, which she promptly named “Elke’s Closet.” She is apparently a touch claustrophobic. laugh.gif

Holy Cow, a Jerric sized bed!

Yes, you can travel to any of the homes, owned or not by clicking on their image in the maps; but on the owned houses you can also leave them by the door and step out into the neighborhood - very convenient if they are handy to a wayshrine.

(unowned houses will send you off to some random wayshrine, usually around your hotel room you got doing the quest).

And your own houses, of course - just click on them on the map and voila! There is never any charge to travel to the houses.

The houses closest to Wayshrines are Mara's Inn in Vulkhel Guard; The Flaming Nix Inn in Mournhold (and that one is convenient to the Master Crafter Writ guy and all crafting stuff); and the Cyrodiilic Jungle House in Malobal Tor at the Bandari Trading Post. (and that one is also convenient to merchants) - and the Ebony Flask Inn is not that far from the Wayshrine and merchants.

The Hunding place is inconvenient to any wayshrines, so when I want to leave I just hop over to the Mara Inn and step out the door of the Inn. Very convenient to get around!

Eeep! There's not a little wood elf struggling to breathe beneath him, is there?!? huh.gif

She doesn't need to contribute, she is always welcome! But that doesn't mean I didn't love getting the bench, lol.

Oh dear, there could very well be a gasping wood elf under there! I note that Jerric has not yet installed an important bedside safety feature – the Scrolls of Shift Jerric’s Leg. ohmy.gif

Jerric's room is so...Jerric. I love it! I assume that Bantam Guar is there as a caretaker when Jerric and Ulfe are out on adventures.

IJerric bought a bed for his room at the brothel. Now he is http://i.imgur.com/QcnTYZ8.png.

I don't recognize that style of bed. Is that Bosmer style? Argonian?

Speaking of beds, http://i.imgur.com/3quMSar.png And it's 3 things I like very much! (Khajiit, bed and canopy)

Unfortunately Khajiit canopy beds are still terrible in that you can't actually hop inside them and nap nor can you place things inside the canopy. I hope they fix that soon, but then it's been that way since before the update. Also, it's too big for any house I currently own so I guess it won't get any use anyways.

BWAAHAA!!! I see how you "found" that purple plan, laugh.gif

That bed Jerric is on is the "Redguard Full." I guess the Redguard think they are Orc or something, all their beds but one are enormous.

No one ever sees the pale Dunmer at the Ebony Flask for long. He is never out in the day, never takes company, and most strange of all, never orders any of the inn's food. The time that he does spend outside is seemingly always a night and he never seems to spare any time with the patrons or inn keeper at all. .. I bet a Skooma Runner is looking pretty good right now to Canthion. Rather than the obvious irate Dunmer Vampire.

To the point, Raslon has dreams of moving out of his little hovel into the mansion by the mountain, The Ebonheart Chateau.

It's where most of my plans come from. :V Looks like the price is rapidly dropping, though, so maybe by next week I'll start buying them instead of going through everything. More time for material gathering.

EVERY bed but the single ones are huge, regardless of race. I'm turbo upset that the canopy ones can't be jumped into, regardless of style (I saw a Breton one in Rivenspire) which makes me sad because they look nice. Ah well.

Looks like either the Ebony Flask room is really big or the Mara's Kiss room is tragically small. Hates got the room, but it technically belongs to Dravean. He's got a backstory now, apparently. So much for being a crafting monkey with no identity.

I went ahead and got all three, and as soon as I furnish them Bubba (the Crafter) and Pantsless Calia (the perpetual troublemaker) will be moving into the Daggerfall and Vulkhel Guard rooms and stop living in the bank! (and Misa will be staying at the Ebony Flask (and writing in her diary every night about the goings on there, lol).

I took the rocks from the Hunding place and sank them through the floor of the Ebony Flask, then stacked up any crates from Hunding in there. I found out I can't give them away to anyone, so will have to eventually destroy them. I'm keeping them now just in case some reason comes up that I need them for whatever.

I hadn't really looked at the inn rooms before (Haa-Rei was much too excited for Humblemud to pay attention the other day), but Tsarakiri got the keys to the Mara's Kiss Inn Room (Vulkhel Guard) today. Not much space for her to work with, but at least she has a bed now. I'm thinking of just crafting lots of furs and cushions to throw around for her.

I've been thinking about buying her the small Khajiit house too. The crown price is really good for the fully furnished version.

Posted by: monkeyemoness Feb 12 2017, 05:50 AM

I feel like the Ebony Flask room is the least tiny of the inn rooms. I'm going to pretend there's a very good reason for that for Dravean's backstory's sake. :V

Anyways, Hates had plenty of gold left over from buying Strident Springs Demense, leaving her with the choice of either Humblemud or The Ample Domicile. She found the former to serve her needs better. She isn't much of a homebody, and a small village of Argonian farmers is the perfect place to lay low and keep her stuff. Also, the bank/crafting hall is only a few steps away. If there were writ boards, it'd be perfect. I also find that Argonian mud huts are way too open for both our tastes. Maybe she'll get Ample Domicile eventually.

Jo'zira was a hundred thousand short for Sleek Creek House, so I had him dip into the motif fund to get that as well. I still have well over 300k for motifs, so it's fine. His home has the opposite problem, being one of the most populated zones/cities in the game, meaning he'll probably have to pick up writs in Craglorn as well.

All that's left is furniture now.

Speaking of, http://i.imgur.com/KGmfGnR.png It might be a little small for him alone, even without the cat-children. It does look comfy, tho.

That small Khajiit house in Kynarthi's Roost is actually larger than the more expensive house in Raw'lika (it just doesn't have any yard space with it, so is considered "small" due to no land). But inside it is really roomy!

** If anyone is wanting to make extra game gold:

I will pay gold for Heartwood at the going Master Merchant market rate; (last night the going rate was 369 gold per each).

I will also buy plans for these items: (or buy the items if anyone has learned the "Blueprint" for them and can make them!) =

Dark Elf Sofas (called "Angled") (I need at least 8 of them)

Dark Elf Trestle tables (called "Scaled") (I need 3 of them)

Dark Elf Tea Tables (the round one) = (I need 4 of them)

Dark Elf Counter (the long "Bar" one) (I need 5 of them)

Dark Elf Counters (the short "Block" ones) = (4-5 of them)

The Dark Elf Rugs = (the round rugs). (I need at least 4 of them)

Redguard Counter "Grills" - I need at least 2 of them, but would really like 4 of them)

And I need 6 of the Redguard Cushioned dining chairs (the pink casual ones, not the red formal ones).

I got my first Master Writ yesterday, and plan to purchase basic crafting stations with the Vouchers; plus will most def be getting a Target Practice Dummy either with Master Writ Vouchers or Crowns.

So, WOO HOO! The Chorrolites' Guild Hall is starting to shape up finally (the hardest part for me is the grinding for mats, lol).

*** And just in case anyone doesn't know this = if you buy anything at all from the Crown Store, you can't transfer it to anyone else's property; even if you are set up as a "Decorator" for them. It instantly becomes bound to your account when you purchase anything via Crowns.

Looking for a good spot for dueling and the skeleton; there is a big spot just behind the benches in the second shot; or another landing below that along the water/beach.

It's the Squad's group house and eventual crafting hall (and will hae some set gear stations, the first being Armor Master because geeze). Doesn't have much yet outside of the bedrooms, but I'm working on it.

WOO HOO! Will def stop in later tonight!

The Hunding house is also open to Guild Members! I bought some mats to make what I could and set those items up, right now I'm completely out of mats and having to make some more runs before I can do any more. I did have to buy a few things from the Crown Store that I just can't find the "recipes" for. The place is looking really good; but still needs some extra touches.

After that it will be just finishing touches (like food clutter, the stables, etc.) - and then I'm going to work on getting the crafting stations for it. The spot to put the crafting stations in is set up, I just need to figure out how to get them, lol.

Buffy’s been over to beautiful Stros M'kai to visit mALX Manor several times. Yesterday she ran into Misa there who was working hard decorating the place – which is looking beautiful by the way.

After Misa graciously gave Buffy a tour to showcase all the new things, the two decided to take a break.

Woo, beach party! That is awesome! happy.gif

monkey, can’t wait to stop in at Strident Springs. Love that place.

Jerric has a brand new wash basin in his Ebony Flask room. Now the nightflowers won’t be able to charge hazard pay any more. Snacks the bantam guar is keeping the insect population down to manageable levels. Jerric’s plan is to have a mead keg positioned directly above his pillow. Got a shelf today. The man has a dream.

hazmick, Jerric stopped by to visit Haa-Rei and Ciri, but they were out. The house looks fabulous! I love the garden! He could have stayed there all night. Just beautiful and so peaceful. The two trees are perfect. Great job!

Jerric made some great food for the Hunding house today; and Buffy has been amazingly generous in her support!

I'm up to 16 vouchers, can't wait to get those crafting stations in!

24 vouchers! Just 11 more to get the Blacksmithing station! WOO HOO !!!

Hey, where is Monkey?

Posted by: monkeyemoness Feb 16 2017, 10:12 PM

Wait, what'd I do? :V

Anyways, I bought a bunch of Achievement decorations last night and threw them into the SSD home. The Squad's bedrooms look great, but the rest of the house now looks bare in comparison (also a few of those won't really be there for long). Have I mentioned that House purchases have left me broke? Yeah. I'm just making it worse.

I sort of want to wait until i have the "perfect" furniture I had in mind before adding anything else. Otherwise I'll be stuck with stand-ins I wouldn't know what to do with. But whatever, I can always give them to someone who can use them when I don't need them anymore. (I guess I also have other houses that can be furnished...)

On a related note, I wish there was more than one style of Provisioning stations. Maybe the Redguard Oven and a usable Khajiit fireplace will come in the future? I mostly just want an oven regardless of its use, but it looks like you can't get those from what I've seen.

Then there's the "proper" Alchemy and Enchanting tables you see in shops...

Posted by: Acadian Feb 16 2017, 10:36 PM

I was just missing your presence, lol.

Yes, most def know what you are saying and totally agree on the Provisioning - they removed the ovens they did have (in the Hunding house, Sentinel house, and Twin Arches) on the PTS when I first got on there and replaced it with a stupid open fire pit. I wrote them a bug report and complained, but instead of putting the ovens back in they just removed the one from the Twin Arches and left the open pits in the other two. verysad.gif

Oh, and broke = yes. When the housing came out I had 1,350,000 in gold, and now I'm broke too. I also got a bunch of Crowns a few days ago for my early Birthday present from my son = gone. I really can't imagine how THAT much could have been spent, verysad.gif But other than some clutter - just about done with the Hunding house. It still needs crafting stations, those are going to have to be bought via vouchers unless I get some kind of unforseen windfall.

Yeah, you can't decon furniture unfortunately. 'Course, in my case it would only be from making a mistake. I can't waste materials. :T

Anyways, thanks for the table, mALX! I don't have a dining table yet, so I'll put it to good use.

Posted by: monkeyemoness Feb 18 2017, 01:06 AM

Since the only opportunity to sneak into the Imperial City I had was wasted (both attempts made to reach the Noble's Conquest crafting station led to getting destroyed) I gave up on saving for an attunable crafting station and had Eolan use up his Writ Vouchers to buy the other 5 regular crafting stations. Better to have them now than wait forever to have 750 for the special ones and then attune them. NOW I can start saving up. (Although I still need the Ambrosia recipe...)

Now I'm figuring out where best to place the normal equipment crafting stations. I wanna make it look like a proper workshop, y'know? Enchanting and Alchemy I already decided to put outside the bedrooms.

Ooh, will it be outside or inside? Or in your tower or something?

I have no clue.

I messed around the house today and considered turning the bottom floor into the cloth/wood workshop, but that'll pretty much take away the "comfy hangout" aspect of the house.

I originally planned to have the wide spaces around the house be used to place the crafting stations, but there are some issues. Like, I sort of want even ground to make it look less messy, but I haven't found a good way to accomplish that without building it out of different parts. I also tried the Orc Tent, but the Woodworking stations are too tall to work inside them. (Maybe I need the Canopy or the Shelter?)

I think I can solve that by placing them around the edges of the house, but I rather they be in one easily accessible place.

I'll have to think about it a bit more. Especially if I'm going to build a "believable" forge (need big fire pit). For now I'm just going to throw them on the bottom floor, since they're just the basic stations that'll eventually find their way to their individual homes.

Posted by: Grits Feb 18 2017, 03:26 PM

monkey, Strident Springs looks great! I love the sweetroll on the table right as you walk in. The crafting stations make a neat work area where you have them. The best part of course is the squad’s individual rooms. There is no question which one belongs to whom. Jerric felt extremely stalkerish going upstairs to check them out, but I made him do it. He stayed in the doorways so he wouldn’t scare the pets or accidentally touch anyone’s personal stuff. laugh.gif

You guys, come see the banner and flagon full of mead that Misa made for Jerric! He loves his room. The man craves home, but is reluctant to make one.

Pog is so close to being Wyrd Friend and getting his cottage! He has some beautiful new lamps made by haute. They make him want to give them a proper cottage to light up.

Elke is going to look at the Skywatch apartment the next time she gets some time. I think she has given up on Jerric making it to the Rift and questing for Autumn’s Gate. Maybe there will be a Crown sale for her. Anyway, she is enjoying her time in Auridon too much to leave yet.

To level the ground up; you can go under "Structures" and use the "Dock" or the "Orc Platform Block" to create a flat spot. I used the "Dock" on my crafting pavilion at Craglorn; but the tall flowers beneath came up through it. I think if you use the "Orc Platform Block" instead, that might not happen.

Also, you can use any of the stone blocks as footings to raise the "Orc (tent or Canopy) Shingled" up and make it high enough for the woodworking if you want.

On the fire - they do have an "Imperial Forge" that is a huge fancy fire pit (but not actually usable as a forge, just for looks). It doesn't work for anything (although you may be able to toggle the fire on or off). It was HUGE. I went ahead and used the "Khajiit Cooking Fire" (which also can't be used for anything but toggling the fire, but doesn't take up that much room)

Here are some screenshots of the crafting pavilion:

It's still a work in progress, but i'd say it's coming along nicely. Thanks! There's no worries in entering Jo'zira's room, at least.

Misa was kind enough to gift the squad the Redguard dinner table, too. Since they only have access to small tables right now, it's pretty useful.

@mALX- I actually gave a few of the structures a look and I agree that something like the docks would help. I was going to go with the stage platforms but I wasn't sure how much I could mess around with building given i only have around 100 decoration spots left. Then again, I'm not sure how many the house came with. Maybe I can do a bit of landscaping, like the little tree I moved out of the way for the stations.

Using blocks to prop up the tents is a good idea, though, so I don't have them floating around.

Funny you should bring that up, though. I noticed a few decorations missing, including that Imperial Forge (I checked the Crown Store section of the furnishings), and a spinning wheel for clothiers. Knowing that some of them actually were in-game is disappointing. Right now i'm using a Khajiit fireplace and I'll eventually move to the Redguard firepit (once I find a plan) and somehow fashion a chimney for it (because chimneys are also a thing that are missing that i also wanted).

I still have many plans to find, though. toot toot!

So Buffy bought a home!

Snugpod is an adorable little grahtoak pod home in Elden Root. Of course she loves that area. The house is close to the wayshrine, shops/services, Undaunted Enclave, MG and FG. Being literally next to the stable cinched the deal though. She bought it furnished and is all done moving in and decorating. That meant putting in one more candle, a potted plant and a mouser (cat) to keep an eye on the place. Oh, and of course she added all our Chorrol friends as visitors.

Thanks! A couple things actually cinched it for us. Buffy is assigned to the EP but her heart really belongs in AD and she probably spends more time in V-wood. Elden Root has felt like her 'base of operations' for a long time. She's doing daily delves for the Undaunted and just discovered the Undaunted Enclave at Elden Root works fine (despsite her being EP). She feels fery comfy in the little pod - remember a tiny elf & vixen need little room. And when she opens the front door, it feels like her front yard IS the stable so that is perfect for her precious mare. tongue.gif

Congratulations, mALX! Jerric did some crafting at the new stations this morning before shouting “Hey y’all watch this” to the seagulls and leaping off the back deck into the sea. The stations look great in those areas that you made for them. The Redguard grill is still Jerric’s favorite feature. And of course he loves the kitchen, he will always stop by there when he visits! What a fantastic job you did with this gorgeous place!

Acadian, congrats to Buffy on her tree pod home! I just love that snug and charming space. The best thing about a living house is that with the help of the mouser and the occasional soft rain, it can take care of itself while Buffy is away. How perfect that Superian’s stable is right outside the door!

Pog got his Daggerfall cottage today. It will be a fun project for him as he is decorating it mostly with things that he makes himself. That means that for now it is pretty empty, but he has a real bed and a nice fire so he’s happy.

Posted by: mALX Feb 21 2017, 05:16 PM

Last night I set up some food in the kitchen, (huge thanks to Grits and Jerric for that awesome food gift!) - and finally got the nice Redguard awning up on the beach (Awesome gift from Hazmick & Haa-Rei - thank you so much, Hazmick!!!) = going to put some Argonian mats under it for sun bathers, lol.

Also, big thanks to Acadian & Buffy for those great Heartwood donations there have been several other touches added!

A friend gave me a huge brazier for the blacksmithing station, so I had to change the layout of that whole area, but I think it still looks okay - and I just love that brazier!

Right now I am just one Voucher away from getting the Clothier station.

OH! And Acadian brought up something today that made me really want to do it - add a merchant and banker to the house. I can't do it for a while, and really hoping they put them on sale for their anniversary or something - that will probably be the only way I'll be able to swing them both in under one year.

But I can probably get one or the other in June when my subscription renews - will probably get the banker first. And if I do the Thieves Guild quest, I think I can get a "Fence" from there for free. (in case anyone shoots over there to lay low while waiting out a hefty bounty or something, they can sell/launder their stolen goods; laugh.gif )

Buffy visited Misa Manor today to check on the progress. Wow! It is looking so good, mALX! You really have an artistry for this decorating stuff. Buffy deconned some metal weapons while she was there.

She absolutely fell in love (no surprise) with your stable area! As lovely as the inside bedrooms are, she laid claim to the semi-open room at the base of the tower with the single bed. She can hear and smell the horses and ocean from there. happy.gif

It tickles me to death that they are being used - and found convenient! I thought the lack of a close wayshrine would be a problem, but - finally got used to either popping into my free hotel room (which is right next to a wayshrine) or "hitching a ride" off someone on my Friends or Guilds lists to get back to where I needed to go.

I hope the Enchanting, Alchemy, and Provisioning stations come as quickly and smoothly as the Equipment stations did; it was amazing to me how fast those first three pieces were obtained!

Visited Misa at the Manor yesterday and got to see the blacksmithing, clothing, wood and enchanting stations - wonderfully unobtrusive yet super convenient. Misa also showed Buffy the new sofa she put in 'Buffy Tower' out by the stable. It made Buffy cry (happy tears). So much fantastic work, mALX!

Posted by: Grits Feb 24 2017, 08:00 PM

Very nice, mALX, congratulations on the new crafting station! And Buffy Tower looks charming! happy.gif

Elke bought the Skywatch apartment despite Jerric’s plan for her to live in Autumn’s Gate. Elke does not want to cook for anyone, clean a whole house, or maintain a garden. If Jerric likes that house so much, he can live in it! tongue.gif Pog gave Elke his bed (it’s yellow which is her favorite color) so now he is sleeping on the floor again. This is not a problem for Pog. Although Elke protested having a garden, the first thing she bought for her apartment was a house plant. It’s a tree. She’s going to need a bigger planter.

All of Jerric's crews' houses are open for visitors. I expect they will be in progress for a very long time!

@ Grits - you had me rolling with the comments on Autumn's Gate house! I loved that house too, really just a perfect little place! Just enough yard and house to be comfy in. If you get it, I can make a shingled tent to give you for an impromptu stables! It is just the right size to fit on one side or the other of the house!

The Special Furniture Guy is here and he's selling wedding-themed stuff. I bought some lanterns and once again underestimated the size of things. I'm using them as lighting for my alchemy/enchanting laboratories. Best part is that if you flip them they look like electrical lighting fixtures. Powered by soul gems because of course.

Gonna get some curtains and maybe some flowers.

EDIT: The flowers are the same ones you see in Valenwood. The blue glowy ones.

That curtain thing is enormous, more like for a castle throne room - i made the mistake of getting it on the PTS. The flowers are large, and turn on and off as if they were a light - kind of cool, but probably more for a ... specialized area

What I got from him that I absolutely LOVED (if he has it on this server) was the flowering trellises!

Here is a screen of the trellises (and also shows that tent/stables I can make for Grits's Autumn Gate house if she wants and doesn't have the Plans for) :

He's selling them but geeze they're expensive (10k each). I sort of want to buy them anyways in case I end up using them but idk. I bought 2 curtains thinking it was for windows. ech

Posted by: hazmick Feb 25 2017, 07:27 PM

I got some of the blue flowers and one of the trellises set up in my garden - they look great! I also bought a lantern, but yeah they're too big. If you had a pond or something to float them on they would look gorgeous. If anyone wants a lantern, you can have mine.

I had a bit of a rework in the garden today. Basically just moved everything from one side to the other so that all of the Morrowind and Black Marsh plants are together. The new trellis is the perfect backdrop for a little seating area, so I'll start working on that soon.

Wow, that is the same price they had them for on the PTS! It is most def worth the price for them if you have anywhere a trellis would work!

I have to get up there to Coldharbour and check out what else he has on sale! Urk, this trip will break my bank, urgh.

If you buy the furnished version some of them do; but you can't loot the ones they put in Player houses. (same for dressers/wardrobes/chests/etc. )

I'm pretty sure that is why I bought them too, thinking they would just be regular curtains but white. But they were so huge - I couldn't imagine anywhere in game they could be used!

Oh my gosh, that's great! Congratulations! That's amazing progress, wow. I haven't used a target skeleton yet, I can't wait to try it!

Posted by: monkeyemoness Feb 28 2017, 08:42 PM

I'm honestly curious to see how those skellies work so I may or may not be tempted to give it a few blasts. Congrats on finishing off your crafting station sets, though!

In my frenzied leveling of a new crafter and clearing Craglorn the past few days, I ended up putting off decorating for a while. Earlier today I bought some more achievement decorations, particularly the soul gem junk. The "Black Soul Gem" decoration may as well be called the Mantella with how huge it is. Another case of I Underestimated How Big That Decoration Was. On the other hand, it'll be a neat, freaky addition to Jo's Rawl'kha house.

Also, I put the Master Angler fishing boat in the pool. It has no business being there but where else will it go? In Hates' back yard?

Now I gotta figure out what aesthetic I'm going to go with the house. I was going to imitate the Vile Manse's style a bit (Imperial/Khajiit, but replacing Imperial with Breton since it's pretty much the same thing and it's craftable), but I think I'll go with a blend of Khajiit/Redguard in the main floor. I really need some more cushion/pillow plans and more fancy Khajiit rugs.

Or I can make it a disaster, which tbh is pretty realistic for two of three of the inhabitants until the help moves in.

What I was so excited about with the Skeleton is that they send you a report at the end of your using one - it is whispered to you in the ChatBox = tells what your DPS damage to the skeleton was! Buffy and Misa tried one out at another friend's house and I was really impressed by getting that report afterward.

With that report it is perfect to test out which spells are most effective on your bars by which do the most DPS. I most def plan to test Misa's spells and determine which to prioritize in combat!

Misa needs to be respec'd anyway; and I've been wondering for a while if I could whittle down a bunch of those spells that never make it to her bar. I recently pulled some forward and found they were much more powerful weapons in combat than what I was using - but at the same time, they didn't heal her in combat, (which the ones she had always used did heal; and that is what kept her alive during all those big fights like Molag Bal).

So I plan to use the heck out of that skeleton to help me figure out what to keep and what to drop.

With the placement, you might even be able to jump into it! It can't really move, though.

Last night I did some reorganizing and the Enchanter station ended up in Jo'zira's room. The Alchemy station will stay out in the hall but I had to face the fact that it'll be a while before I get all the fancy things like the poison cabinet and such. Ah well.

I've been house hunting again today, just looking though.

As I've mentioned before, Tsarakiri needs a house. The issue is that she's often away on 'business' so the house would often be left empty. Haa-Rei and Ciri have also been thinking about getting somewhere with more space. On top of that I have Lagakha and the as-yet-unnamed character I'll be making for Morrowind. Rather than buying everyone their own places, I want to get one large place for the whole crew.

I've narrowed my options down to a handful of suitable properties, so I'll ponder them all for a while. So far Strident Springs seems like the best choice, but the price is...ouch. I also quite like Velothi Reverie, though it'd be a little cramped.

I think buying the bigger houses like Strident works best using the Crowns, they really priced them lower than I ever dreamed they would!

Posted by: hazmick Mar 10 2017, 02:01 AM

I eventually went with Strident Springs, unfurnished. I just love the individual rooms and the layout of the house itself. Also, having our very own waterfall is just perfect.

Despite it being unfurnished, I still had to spend a while removing the ~100 plants in the garden so I can start replacing them with my own stuff. It's going to be a nice project to work on.

I think I'll use Altmer style furniture for the most part - I like the way it looks and I already have some of the plans. I've made a start on some bedrooms (one for Haa-Rei and Ciri, one for Tsarakiri) so now I need to decide who out of Lagakha and as-yet-unnamed-warden will get the last bedroom, and who will be sleeping in the tower.

Posted by: Acadian Mar 10 2017, 03:16 AM

Congrats, hazmick, on the new place for your growing gang! I think going unfurnished and slowly getting it exactly how you want is a great way to go. Buffy bought Snugpod furnished but we've replaced nearly 70% of what was in there so probably would have been better off getting unfurnished like you did.

Oh, and been meaning to say how much I enjoy seeing Haa-Rei dropping a line in the water in your screenshot of the month. smile.gif

@ Acadian - I can't remember if I said something about Buffy's screen of the month in a PM or not, but I meant to = gorgeous!

I also bought the Plans for the regular strength Target Dummy; so if anyone wants me to make one for your house = just send me the mats needed and I'll send you the dummy, lol.

I feel like the dummy for buying the Plans, to be honest. 125 Vouchers to find out it requires this many mats to make:

15 Mundane Runes (approximately 228 per each = @ 3420)

11 Alchemical Resin (approximately 58 per each = @ 638)

10 Decorative Wax (approximately 100 per each = @ 1000)

1 Kuta (approximately 2783 per each right now; which is actually abnormally low, so I'd round it to 3000)

206 Bone (These are 15 per each at the vendor; couldn't find them in the Guild Stores right now = @ 3090)

1 Animus Stone (bought via 50 Vouchers from the Master Writ guy; so figure the cost to do those Master Writs to get the 50 Vouchers)

** So figure approximately 11,148 Gold (plus the cost of crafting the Master Writs to get the 50 Vouchers for the Animus Stone) for the mats.

*

This vid was made off the PTS server; but I am pretty sure the stats they list for ingredients required are still accurate; it looks like what I remember seeing when I first got the Plans the other day.

I haven't actually made one because I had already bought the Target Dummy for the Guild Hall using Crowns.

BUT = had I known how much mats they required, I'd have just stuck to buying them with Crowns and saved myself the 125+ Vouchers! So I guess the prices I've seen on the Guild Store shelves for the pre-made Dummies is pretty darn earned !!! I thought they were over-inflated till I saw that Recipe for making them!

Here is a vid that details how to make them:

hazmick, congratulations on the purchase of Strident Springs! I love that place.

mALX, congrats on the dye station! Thank you very much for making Hunding House so welcoming and wonderful.

Jerric found one of those enormous paintings of ruins, and now I can’t remember where he put it. This was before I went away for the weekend. I suspect I will find it shortly after I locate the missing piece of my coffee pot.

Haa-Rei finished the basic work on the outer tower today, adding some walls to make it less of a watchtower and more of a room. We'll get some Bosmer style furnishings once we save up some more gold.

Also got some more trees for the garden - there's a really great selection for sale at the Craglorn furnishers. I just wish you could preview things before you buy them, especially with large objects like trees.

Is the Craglorn selection different from other furnisher's inventory?

Almost every furnisher has a different plant selection, and Craglorn's is pretty good. Not too expensive either (unlike the Auridon furnisher).

That's a great tip, thanks! I have been wondering how to get more plants without resorting to the Crown store.

Posted by: hazmick Mar 15 2017, 09:58 PM

Furnishers often sell region-specific plants, and they're usually pretty cheap (just a couple hundred gold). The Auridon furnisher sells the Altmer cherry blossom trees and they start at 10k kvleft.gif

I need to make a list of who sells what, since I always forget.

Jo'zira quickly jumped instances and took a peek at Haa-Rei and Ciri's Strident Springs. There's still much to be filled but he can already get a good feel of who lives there.

I'm sort of upset I forgot to pick up a few extras of those merchant baskets and lanterns last week. I needed like, 2 more baskets for things. Guess I gotta wait till they come back. That said, will they ever give, like, Dwemer-style decorations? I hope so. I bought 20k worth of rugs today.

Anyways, since I'm putting my SSD decorating on hold until I get more cushion plans and attuneable stations, I've started to decorate the small houses. Hates' Humblemud already has some things, but Captain Margaux's and Moonmirth have nothing in them. Those furnishing materials are just sitting in my bank anyways.

Welp, another attempt at fixing up Strident Springs Demense ended in tears. I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I THINK I want the kitchen in the east wing but that terrible cooking station makes life hell. I also attempted to put it in that little square area and got it looking really neat but again, sabotaged by the cooking station from hell.

I also got started on the "workshops." Much less convenient, tbh, but ~aesthetic~
Blacksmith's next to the entrance, carpentry's in front of the house, near the fake windows (seriously the exterior does NOT match the interior), and tailor's is on the second floor around the enchanter's. Alchemy laboratory is in the nook (in front of the eventual dye station).

Jesus.

(They're also gonna move out soon)

Truth be told I'm probably going to nix the "crafting hall" idea and move that to another place.

That cooking station is awful. I SO wish they would use those clay ovens like the Inn in Belkarth has!

Made big progress with the kitchen today, really pleased with the way it's going.

Lowered a section of the ceiling so I can hang up some stuff (beet string, snakes on a rope etc.) and made a little storage area in the process - looks like a nice little pantry area. Also got some stone blocks in and made a cooking area, raising the khajiit firepit off the ground so it looks like something people would actually use now.

Had a minor issue when I realised I'd been decorating as Cirinwe, and what she considers an 'appropriate height' for objects is about a foot higher than anyone else can reach. Whoops. tongue.gif

Though I'm still missing a few pieces I feel like I'm ready to start furnishing the individual houses in preparation for the Squad finally moving out of the crafting house (it'll only happen after I finish the IC stations. So soonish)

I did an okay job with Ruben's Rosy Lion Room, though he still has 3 slots to fill in. Since he lives in an inn, he doesn't really need much in there so idk. Now that I have a bit of confidence (and a lot of options) I feel like I can get started on the medium houses.

...but as I started work on Ravenhurst I realized I'm out of Heartwood and the most generous listing I've seen is @200g each. Welp, I guess I'll just die. :V

Posted by: monkeyemoness May 3 2017, 05:07 AM

I spent at least an hour redecorating Strident Springs Demense (again) and decided that I would stick to Breton-style furnishings to try and capture the Imperial look. Because Imperial furniture is just Breton in a darker color and with slightly different knotwork. Will the Cultural Appropriation end?

I ended up using all the Heartwood I'd harvested but at least the downstairs actually looks lived in. I just need a few more touches, figure out what to do with the corner near the stairs, and the second half of the outer hallway of the second floor and I'm done. For now.

I'm waiting on getting the Khajiit Vacation Tent before I start decorating the exterior. I'll probably make due with the other Tents if I have to, but I wonder if it'll cause the same problem with the crafting stations becoming unusuable until placed again. I know for sure the Imperial City stations are all going in the tower, though.

That aside, I sort of questioned why the first floor is mostly Breton instead of the blend I wanted earlier, and I decided it's Eolan establishing his dominance as the sole parental unit of the household. The Hearth is his. And his first mandate is that if one is to drink tea, it'll be done like civilized folk. Even if he has to knock that wooden mug out of Hates' hands.

Any interactable object (books, lights etc.) becomes unusable if it's within another item's hitbox. Same thing happens to some objects in windowsills. The Inn rooms are a good example - put something too close to the window and you can even pick it up again. I put a Dark Brotherhood skull light in Tsarakiri's room the other day but it can't be used unless it floats a few inches away from the wall.

And don't forget to mention that those readable books we can buy with gold are larger than the given shelf area in most of those bookshelves = don't fit the shelves properly for placement.

BOLD: And Surprise! You can only get those neat placeable stacks of books via the Crown Store, unless I'm mistaken about that! I haven't found them for sale or the plans to craft those stacks anywhere.

Only if they are open. I got the recipe for open baskets instead of closed, so I can place items in them. Open shelved dressers are better to get than closed dressers if you want to place items there. But if you mean storage, the answer is a flat no.

Posted by: monkeyemoness May 6 2017, 05:53 PM

Yeah, there are a ton of issues with the objects' hitboxes, particularly the canopy beds sans the Dunmer one. It's a lot more glaring for the bookshelves for the reason I mentioned. Luckily I bought a ton of dummy bookrows to fill them in, and Jo'zira's the type of person to leave books everywhere anyways.

On the subject, the interior of Sleek Creek House is nearly finished. Just need an enchanting station and maybe some curtains. Next is the exterior, which consists of a "kitchen" and a clothier workshop. The workshop's probably going to be a while, since all I could think of using aside from the clothier station is the basket of cloth and maybe some tables.

I turned Moonmirth into a spare furniture storage shed, Humblemud into a pretend treasure hoard for Hates, and Captain Margaux's house...is an actual house. idk, no one actually lives there, but I've been thinking of moving Ruben to it just so he could be closer to the bank and most of the crating stations. The starting towns have the worst layout in this regard tbh, Daggerfall being the absolute worst. Go from one end of the city to the other just for writs.

Next project, aside from furnishing the beast that is Strident Springs, is filling out the Ample Domicile with furniture. I regret not buying some of the freakier plants for Hates alchemy garden. although figuring out where that will go will also be a challenge

Warrior Barbie Dreamhouse nails it. I’ve swung between delight at having spaces to decorate and annoyance over the tedious process to fill them. It seems that materials are dropping a little more frequently now, or maybe I’m just hopeful.

Jerric bought the Cyrodiil Jungle House and declared it The Love Shack. laugh.gif It has art on the walls, wine, a pile of furs in front of the fire, and comfortable accommodations for the horses. I wanted to give Eolan a nice, well-stocked kitchen in Ravenhurst for provisioning but remembered that he has 2 demons cats in his home that is basically one huge, open box. A cat's jumping powers are too strong, leaving his stores of food left out in the open defenseless.

Posted by: Grits May 8 2017, 12:45 PM

Darnand’s Ravenhurst is presently furnished mostly with cats. I’m considering closing in the space under the stairs for a pantry. Hopefully his magical experiments are noxious enough to keep them off his work tables.

Accommodating pets is a housing priority. Food bowls and water bowls were the first things Jerric put in his room at the Flask. Pog made a bed for his daedrat before he made his own. And at The Love Shack, Jerric put the dog outside. laugh.gif

Me too, honestly. Mostly for Eolan's plentiful stores of meat and fish. Cured until I find the gold-level hanging game that may or may not exist. I figure the cats wouldn't be too interested in the baskets and crates of fruit and vegetables and I like where i have them now so those are exempt. :U (Although I did plan on building it near the fire place where they are placed. Assuming I find the right pieces, but since no door exist...)
Though I guess so long as the kitties are happy and well-fed, no extra snacking will happen. Maybe. One of them does seem unusually drawn to sweets for an obligate carnivore.

This all started because I was unwilling to put a poison cabinet next to the Guar. Who would most likely eat it all and die.

Posted by: monkeyemoness May 11 2017, 11:56 PM

So today I went a-peeping at the houses of people on my friends list (mostly made up of people I used to run Dungeons and other group content with that haven't unfriended me and are still active so I haven't unfriended them) and it's honestly one of the better ideas I've had.

I've also realized how much I've been ignoring the exterior of my houses and how great some of the achievement furniture is. I sort of want to get a subscription just so I can decorate my houses better.

Anyways, SSD looks less dead and I'm starting to slowly fill it with Khajiit and Argonian stuff to balance out the Breton parts and fill in some of the "empty" spots. I'm at 20 slots open now. Yeesh, time to start removing plants.

It can get a little upsetting sometimes, though. I'd really like to have that coin pile you get for the Black Market Mogul achievement, but Hates isnt' anywhere near getting it. I think the Abah's Landing pile might be bigger so I'll probably just use that.

Anyways, maybe it's because it looks passable now, but I don't have that great of an urge to decorate Strident Springs anymore. I might change up the furniture but pretty much everything seems to be in its place now. I'll have to find something better to serve as Eolan's nap couch, though. Both the Khajiit and Redguard couches look uncomfortable to lie in for an extended period. Any other furniture added will most likely just be things like clutter or the little hangout near the waterfall. (and a canopy for the woodworking stations)

Dunno if I'm going to make use of the spots in the back. Might make a second area for crafting stations if I ever get any more (most likely the Guild sets). But I only have like 15 spots open. Hm.

In other houses, Eolan's also looking fine, though I wish I could spice up his forge a little. I'm waiting on some kind of placeable forge to come from either the luxury vendor or even the crown store if I have to. In Strident Springs I'm using an Orcish brazier to hold its place. Might do the same there.

Though I said the interior was now good, I'm thinking of making Jo's a lot more ~magical~. So far I have a sigil stone floating in front of a bookcase and a massive black soul gem nearby. Needs more shiny things. I also learned that using shelves other than Khajiit or Nord make for interesting bookcases by laying a single book flat in one shelf to make it readable.

As for Hates, I don't think she'll spend too much time in the Ample Domicile, preferring Humblemud, so I haven't done much work on the former. I was thinking of making it mostly a carpenter workshop/alchemy lab, but now I'm thinking of moving the woodworking stuff outside again. I finally found something that would work as a wood rack (Orcish Shelves, Storage) and I think it'll take up too much space.

I'll have to take screenshots once I'm happy with the look cause the Squad's individual houses can't be visited. :V

Agree with you on those couches not looking very comfortable. The only really comfy looking couch is that Redguard really cushiony one (with the matching tuffet) that you can't sit on. (grrrrr!) I have written them several requests for that puffy looking couch to be sit-able, but so far no response. The day they make it usable, I will change out all my couches for that one in a heartbeat.

Posted by: monkeyemoness May 15 2017, 01:20 AM

I know which one you mean. I was thinking of using two or more to make a little comfy area in the corner. I was actually going to use it in the place of the other couches before I realized you can't sit on them at all. :T

At least you can sorta sleep on them.

(copied from the accidental post in the guild thread)

Thanks to Misa, Hates got a poison cabinet for her alchemy lab in Strident Springs a lot earlier than she thought and it was discovered that both the cabinet and the nearby shelf are too high for her to reach. She got a stool so she doesn't have to call on Jo all the time.

I also added a few things to Sleek Creek, mostly some curtains and a little dining area in the exterior. Tried to make the clothier workshop a little more presentable, too. Only part I don't really know what to do with is the porch. From above it looks like it's collapsing, but the lower area of the structure looks fine? Either way, I would avoid the corner near the pool. I set down a tea table and a sofa near the door. All that's left is magical trinkets for Jo's enchanting lab.

Khajiit was looking at the bindings the other day and there was one for housing editor. Haven't messed with it though, as we use a XB360 controller.

It is defaulted at F5 on my game (keyboard, no controller). So (Rader) - if you use the controller = could offset some default bindings.

Anyways I don't think I ever showed off the Squad's individual houses so eh, here's what we got so far. (Yeah, I used the furnished versions as a base, though I bought them unfurnished with gold)

Nice work on the houses Monkey!

Great work, Monkey! It is such fun seeing what folks do with the houses. I love Jo's shinies and that he has a tea area.

Here's Buffy at her writing desk in https://i.imgur.com/wA4YdSU.png. As you can see, everything is too big for her. . . but she is used to that. wink.gif

I forget those nicely framed Vvardenfell paintings exist. Fits nicely, tbh.

Anyways, I just remembered that the reason I never really went all in with clutter is because i wasn't sure if I would have enough space left over for other things I wanted in the houses. I think now that I pretty much have what I wanted I can just...finish things up? idk (It's why I really like how the interior of Jo'zira's house turned out. It looks lived-in, with all the books and the papers and the knick-knacks thrown around everywhere)

Am I right in thinking that housing is designed to be an end-game sink for gold and mats?

The skill levels for the most basic stuff seems disproportionate, and the number of style and refinement materials seems like they want to use up the huge stocks left over from crafting equipment, once you're done with that. If you have to buy materials for furnishing, you're better off getting the complete item instead.

Between my crew, they can manage a stool, a bedroll, a chair, a basic mug, a backpack, and a wooden bowl. There may also be a few dummy food items, but since we can't make plates, nor a table to put them on, they're for "later".

My intent was to get homes for the crew as we reached the zones they'd feel at home in. Build furnishings as we got the required skills, and place them in the matching homes according to style (no dead-wooden things in Snugpod). I looked at our stocks of regulus, heartwood, clean pelts, etc. and thought the plan sound.

But equipment crafting uses up style, and refinement materials fairly rapidly, and there's no pool building up of those. If my crafter reserve their own style material for furnishings, and make equipment only with other races' that helps a bit, but only when a costume makes style a non-issue.

The crafting skill requirements seem stupidly high, too. The lowest I found for a proper bed (i.e. raised off the floor) is the High Elf one, requiring Woodworking level three - Beech level. You'd typically have almost completed your third zone before you could put a bed in the home in zone one or two. Since furnishings use multiple skills, a crafter would spend a lot of points before making anything useful. Wood elves have to wait until a crafting level of six before they get off the floor!

Stonefalls has a low level Dwemer ruin in it (that is conveniently right on a materials path for gathering up anything you might need for any type of crafting, including furnishings) = called the "Inner Sea Armiture." Any Dwemer ruin will do, but this one is particularly productive to farm for style materials, rare motifs, recipes, furniture plans, and lockpicks.

It will keep you up in all the style materials you need for most crafting; but sometimes for crafting furniture you might still need to buy the style mats from the Vendor at any Smithy (15 gold per each) because most pieces of furniture take 15 style stones each to craft.

It isn't exactly that the furniture crafting is made for end game; it is that it is made for real Crafters; players who really enjoy farming up the materials they need and hand crafting anything they want to have. It takes learning recipes/plans/motifs/etc. It takes digging in dungeons for the materials; and it takes leveling up all your crafting skills to make furniture.

The better furniture does require higher learning in certain crafting skills (example: a certain high level piece might require the crafter have at least level 4 in Blacksmithing AND at least level 6 in Clothier, etc).

I actually love that they didn't make it so just anyone can jump in and start doing it at the highest levels without effort = it is the first thing this game has offered that really rewards the people who have taken the time to develop a full crafting character instead of just a combat or PvP Player.

It isn't for everyone, but from what I know of you through the years, you will end up being excellent at it in a lot less time than it took most of us to reach (if you want to do it) - and I get the feeling it will be right up your alley once you get going a little further in it.

Our Guild Bank has tons of furniture crafting plans just waiting for someone to grab them; and if you want to know what something looks like you can usually Google it and Tamriel Fashion (or someone) probably has a picture of it.

Posted by: ghastley Jan 24 2018, 06:16 PM

I think my main gripe is that the items you can build at low levels are just too few. I agree that better items should be at higher levels, but at least let me get started! I can make a bedroll, a stool, something to drink out of - but I can't make any level of table to put down the drink! The least requirement I found for a table was Woodworking 3. The game needs a basic set of crude furnishings at level 1 to go with the bedroll, stool etc. I couldn't even find a low-level platform to raise the bedroll off the ground. The white-level "Rough Platform, Stage" also requires Woodworking 3.

And then I have to find or buy the plan for the item. The vendors have a few (like the bedroll) but you can't get a minimum (think student dorm furnishings) that way. RNG stuff then comes in, making you grind to get off the ground.

Posted by: mALX Jan 24 2018, 07:09 PM

I never knew what the levels required were because Misa was already crafting at the highest level when Housing was released last year. (but knew there were some cross/skill requirements).

The Vendors have the least as far as Plans go; better to try looking in backpacks, dressers, nightstands, crates, barrels, etc. I usually get 5 furniture plans every day minimum by just looting every non-stealing container I see.

Dwemer urns are a great place to find them; so are those Wood Elf urns you find in their outside camp-type areas in Grahtwood. (while you are out Skyshard hunting; leave no container unchecked, lol)

The best place to buy Plans if you want to buy them is the Guild Trader kiosks; not Vendors. Unlike the Vendors; the Guild Traders are in competition with each other, meaning they can and do have price wars. Their Plans are MUCH cheaper than the Vendor's; they have some real plans (not the base white ones); and you can look the Plans over before buying to see what the requirements are.

** Elden Root in Grahtwood; Wayrest in Stormhaven; Mournhold in Deshaan; Rawl'Kha in Reapers March; or Skywatch in Auridon are all places where bidding wars keep the prices lower than you might find somewhere else. Also = if you are out in the middle of nowhere and find a Guild Trader; they HAVE to price low to get people to even come to them, so always check them for good buys, too.

That's probably why it happened that way. It was designed for people who'd already been playing for quite some time, and they ignored those just starting.

Posted by: haute ecole rider Jan 25 2018, 07:14 PM

I wouldn't say that they ignored those just starting, I think they wanted to give you ANOTHER reason to level up all your crafting.

When I started, in Aug '16, my original plan was to build one toon (Julian) for consumables and another (Maz) for equipment. I refined it further to have one toon for provisioning/enchanting (Julian), one toon for blacksmithing (Maz), one for woodworking/clothing (Alise) and one toon for alchemy (Argis), to better fit their RP purposes.

Then housing dropped, we became addicted to virtual real estate and decorating, and next thing I knew, Maz became our all purpose crafter - she gets first dibs on new plans and motifs (for Master Writs). Alise is our secondary, while Julian remains our Master Provisioner and Argis is still our Master Alchemist.

Now I have two more toons (Phae and Do Rah), but neither of them are interested in crafting, and so are still on Level 1.

I can imagine it's discouraging in the beginning to get started on crafting, and especially with a system like Housing; but I've always bought style materials for my six races from the vendors when I"m low (they're cheap), new plans and motifs from the Guild vendors (sometimes Maz will take a chunk of change out of the bank and go shopping for new stuff at the lowest prices she can find), and I do writs to keep the surveys coming.

Recently it feels like drops are getting scarcer, and I'm running out of items I never lacked before. It's frustrating when we're trying to fill new homes . . .

Posted by: Grits Feb 6 2018, 03:34 AM

Now that Darnand has Ravenhurst, I think I'll redecorate his Rosy Lion room as student housing. Use only the basic things that can be bought or crafted at level 3 or below. And of course an opulent painting or two plus a stack of Dwarven gears, because those things turn up in the oddest places.

Pog started buying mats and plans, and now he is finally having some fun with housing. It was very frustrating to use just what the crew found.

Posted by: haute ecole rider Feb 6 2018, 04:31 PM

It's nice when you finally have a bit of gold accumulated to buy patterns and plans and (in Maz's case) motifs.

Then we see another house we really like, and it's back to saving, not spending. tongue.gif

Posted by: ghastley Mar 26 2018, 05:50 PM

Taminwe won't let the crew spend gold on plans, because we're supposed to be saving up for Mathiisen Manor - she almost liked Cliffshade, but it has no grounds - and we aren't even half-way yet, only about 400,000.

Laurie discovered Montclair Manor in upper Shornhelm. It's empty after the quest there, so you can go rummage through the cabinets and find plans as often as you like. Since Unna's gone through there, too, on her Cadwell's Silver pass, they can alternate. However that has a Breton bias, so the Daggerfall Inn Room is well-furnished, but almost everywhere else is still sparse. The other Inn room in Ebonheart is doing well with Dunmer things, which seem to pop up all over the place, not just in the Pact zones you'd expect. Moonmirth also started to look habitable, now we made a bed. Surprisingly that one was just green level, despite the requirement for tier 8 tailoring. We're only just starting to see the higher level plans, but can make just about anything we find.

We're looking for good places in Redguard and Nord lands that have the same characteristics as Montclair Manor. The consensus is that we'd need to go through the public dungeons Razak's Wheel, and the Windhelm Hall of the Dead and search urns instead. Not such an easy run for a solo player. There may also be a few delves as second-best.

Spreads thinks the Argonian housing is a bit primitive for her tastes. She may prefer Dark Elf, or even Imperial, but hasn't yet found a home she wants.

The Montclair runs have also netted quite a few recipes, which also helps Laurie's cause. Having just become a Master Provisioner, she needs to learn a whole lot more of them.

Just a couple of random home shots to record where I am now.

http://ghastley.org/ESO/images/Snugpod.jpg has reached the comfortable stage. Wizwen has somewhere to cook, eat, store things, and sleep. (Warning! wiiiiiiiiiide image) I used the provisioning station with a Nord Torch added for the extra light/flames, as none of the other fires fit as well.

The motley junk pile that was in http://ghastley.org/ESO/images/RosyLion.jpg has been redistributed according to style, and what's left there is just the appropriate Breton items. Unfortunately, the only Breton carpets Laurie know how to make are HUGE, so the floor is currently bare. More clutter will be added as it turns up, so the shelves won't stay bare.

Twin Arches and Sleek Creek are further on, but actively being added to, so I'll leave those to later. Mournoth Keep and Mathiisen Manor are almost empty still. I'm just not finding High Elf and Orcish plans at the same rate as the others. Minx' St Delyn Penthouse is looking quite decent, but she won't let me take pictures until the vellum lamps are in (and have you seen the price of the formulae?). She's doing regular trips to the Dreloth tomb, and hoping for miracles.

----

Minor rant while I'm here. Did you know that Khajiit get no chairs? I can make a sofa, bench, and several styles of stools, but not a chair. And for further illogic, there are two sizes of cushions - the small one takes more materials and higher skill than the large one, which is essentially three of the small one joined together!

My problem is in tying to create a dining area for Sleek Creek. Dining table and chairs doesn't work with no Khajiit chairs, and sitting down on cushions around a communal dish Arabian-style doesn't work, because there are no serving dishes large enough.

What do Khajiit tails do when they sit down? If they stick out the back, maybe they need a bench type seat or stool rather than a chair?

Wow, your Rosy Lion looks so bright and cheery! I've never seen the light coming through the windows that way, Awesome!

Well the chair would have to have an open space in the back to accommodate the tail. From there a Khajiit could just curl their tail around the chair to keep folks from stepping on it/tripping over it (although, everyone knows that making people trip while carrying platters at a dinner party is favorite amusement for some Khajiit, laugh.gif ).

This one suspects that the Khajiit don’t have chairs because the devs didn’t know what a southeast Asian chair would look like. So they just made cushioned stools. Very gaudy ones at that.

It’s very clean! Khajiit also noted your lil’ buddy hanging out on the top bunk!

The game has presented me with a whole lot of housecats, so there's one on the bed in each of the homes, except: Snugpod has no bed, just a hammock, so no cat. Unna has a Sabre Cat cub instead of a house cat, and it's playing in front of the fire with Sir Socks's Ball of Yarn.

Twin Arches also has a Jackal, a Mastiff, and the Alik'r Dune-hound outside. They live in a cargo crate tipped over on its side. Sleek Creek has the new Dusky Fennec stationed as guard in a Khajiit loft by the gate. Blossom has her Eschalette out by the gate at Mournoth, and Taminwe will house all the Dwarven critters(?) at Mathiisen.

All of my pets stay at home, with the cats inside, and the dogs etc. outside. So far, I have no unused mounts, but they only appear when ridden.

And I think I'll take a hint from Buffy, and have my new Nixad guard Snugpod.

She's doing regular trips to the Dreloth tomb, and hoping for miracles.

rollinglaugh.gif rollinglaugh.gif rollinglaugh.gif Well, I can't dispute you on the gaudiness of their furnishings, but I did think that cushiony=ness of the benches did look like something a cat might like to sprawl on if they had a "Sprawl" emote; and we know they sit on stools by the Khajiit that brings us our crates, laugh.gif

I actually did wonder why the wood furniture for Khajiit was kind of scratched up, though; did the Devs think Khajiit were sharpening their claws on their own furniture? laugh.gif

Eh, Khajiit thinks it’s too small. This one was definitely all too happy to spend money on the Sisters of the Sands apartment.

Posted by: ghastley Jun 22 2018, 01:48 PM

I think the size of that room is why Taminwe demanded Mathiisen Manor as her upgrade. tongue.gif Both she and Cat Man Dhou now have other homes, and it only gets used as a wayshrine (because you can go home from anywhere).

However, we're just not getting the plans for the right High Elf furniture for the Manor. The only bed Laurie can make is the bunks (which are in my instance of the Mara's Kiss room), and you can't furnish a home with just tables, no matter how diverse they are. biggrin.gif

(The exception to the above may be crafting tables. We haven't yet decided if the Manor will become our crafting hub, with attuned stations).

----

And on a completely different topic. I was testing out furnishing ideas on the PTS last night, and having difficulties seeing what I was doing, as it was night-time, and you have no control over that. So I bought a Clockwork Illuminator from the store for the nominal crown, and used it as a work light. I'm now tempted to invest in the formula for one on the live server, where the price may be a bit higher!

I remember that haute had used one to light up her Twin Arches (shining through an opaque door, if I'm remembering correctly), so it could be a useful generic light source in all the homes. One of those gives a lot of light!

Posted by: ghastley Jun 25 2018, 04:25 PM

Since my Mournoth Keep and Mathiisen Manor are both almost empty at present, I was looking around to see what I could currently place in them.

The Manor has eight fireplaces, and when you buy the house, three of them have firelogs already in place. The Keep only has one fireplace, with nothing in it. I poked around and discovered that you can't make firelogs, and have to buy them with Crowns. I moved one from the Manor to the Keep, and will probably put a fern in each of the others. You can at least buy (some) ferns with in-game gold.

I need to look at what else is Crowns-only, before I make too many plans. I know that Imperial furnishings are that way, but I don't have any need for those. However, it looks like boxes of fruit (except for plums?) are like that.

And books! If you want rows of books on your bookshelves, and are not Redguard or Hlaalu, you can't have shelves with books already in place. The rows and stacks are all crowns-only. Redguard lattice chairs are crowns-only.

Even though I'll most likely abandon it in the coming weeks, I'm really getting into decorating the Alinor house. Never have I needed Decorative Wax as much as I do now lol

That said, I can see myself using that fireplace for a kind of Forge, assuming forges haven't been added yet. (haven't found or bought one yet)

The PTS server had one before housing came out that was huge; (would not fit inside the house); but before housing came out, they removed it. verysad.gif

I've been waiting and waiting for that to come to the luxury furnisher and was hopeful that it would come along with the loom and all the other crafting stuff a while back. No luck. :/

Anyways, I went out and spent hundreds of thousands of gold for furnishing recipes and completed furniture, and I'm only 3 major pieces away from finishing the house. :U (It's not worth it buying the crafted furniture given how much they go for vs the recipe, but the recipes go for 100k on average) Once I find/buy the cabinets/wardrobes/benches, it's done. I ended up buying a fireplace, since the plan is around 300k on average vs the 14k for a crafted one lol. Did the same for other pieces I only really need one of.

In the future, I think I'll stick to buying furniture instead of tracking down the plans unless the cost of the plan is cheaper than buying the individual furniture.

Now that most of the furniture is in, I can start customizing the place a bit more. I figure the room Fjotreid and Eolan are in can be split up to give enough space to both of them instead of corralling them together into a single area. Jo'zira's "room" is more or less ready, save for a few knicknacs and plants. Hates is finished.

I can honestly enjoy the house as it is now.

Posted by: monkeyemoness Jul 1 2018, 07:26 PM

I straight up just copied the furnished version you can get for crowns as a guide, lol. (Except Jo'zira's room, anyways) I find it's a better starting point than doing it entirely from scratch.

Anyways, the beds are (in order): Alinor Bed, Canopy Full(Epic); Alinor Bed, Overhang Full(Epic); and Alinor Bed, Polished Single(Superior). I can only craft the latter 2, but I also found the Alinor Bed, Noble Single plan and have a crafted one to use later.

Posted by: mALX Jul 1 2018, 07:50 PM

I need to start finding those Alinor recipes, then; they are gorgeous! LOVE that style! Those beds are Awesome.

I'm hoping the new Alinor plans will push down the prices for the older High Elf ones. Taminwe prefers those, although that canopy style is tempting her. And now we have the Heartwood, we can start to consider that job.

Of course, solving our woodworking problem moved us on to other shortages. We just used our last Rakeipa making another light for Sleek Creek. We have silly numbers of enchanting surveys, so it's time to clear those out of the bank. However, they'll have to drop a bit better than we're finding so far. Twelve surveys got us only three Rakeipa!

And after buying plans for dividers, we ran out of heartwood again. Not to mention discovering that the Alinor furnishing items all require culanda lacquer, obtainable only in Summerset (or at crazy prices). We had ideas for using the smallest fountain to provide water for the dogs at Twin Arches, and to use the scalloped platter at Sleek Creek. Now those are abandoned.

Taminwe has been foraging in Bal Foyen again, as she's the one character that gathers all the things we run short of, and also gets copper dust, which I can use to trade. And since it's her home we're trying to furnish ...

Also trying to make a budget for the Crowns. With bulk books all being Crown-only (25 crowns per set), a library gets expensive, but the empty spaces at Mathiisen Manor need one. 32 shelves in 8 bookcase to fill (once I get enough Heartwood for the bookcases tongue.gif ), plus Sleek Creek has a small bookshelf, too.

Reduced my ambitions for the Mathiisen library somewhat. Bookshelves on one side only, with a desk on the other, and some comfy chairs to sit in and read. However, the Altmer don't seem to believe in comfy chairs. The Alinor bench and its one-person variant may be the only padded seats in their style.

Posted by: ghastley Jul 30 2018, 03:10 PM

I took a look at haute's current primary home, mainly to check out the bathroom for ideas. Her Bouldertree had one, and I seem to remember them in a couple of the other homes she showed me. Not disappointed this time, either.

I noted that the Breton Urn, Striated was her go-to ceramic item for these, usually combined with some kind of chair or throne and so Laurie bought the plans for it. We're trying out the Redoran stool as the frame, instead of a chair, at Sleek Creek. I should switch that to Primary Residence for feedback, soon. It has enough furnishings in place to look lived-in, even though it needs many more. Space is reserved for crafting stations, once Cat Man Dhou starts to want his own.

Blossom now has a Humanoid Skeleton, Robust at her Mournoth Keep, and she tried it out. Her DPS is now officially pathetic, not just apparently so. She blames all the skill points she put into crafting. tongue.gif

I love reading the (dreams and plans) versus the reduction when the cost of the dream is realized to be too high, lol. Boy have I been there! Yes, all that Alinor stuff requiring that rare Culanda Lacquer is going to keep them hard to come by, but boy are they gorgeous! I am totally in love with every single Alinor item I've seen so far, and would LOVE to be able to afford doing anything with them on some of my places because I have SO many ideas of things that could be done with them, lol.

But the Alinor pieces are all huge, which def limits where they will fit, lol.

That Guild Hall I decorated for that other Guild recently = I built the entire Guild Hall in Alinor stuff (Haute might have seen it, she is a member) = it cost an absolute fortune just in the Culanda Lacquer! We walled off that entire Coldharbour floating island with those huge Alinor fence pieces and even the roofs were upside down Alinor stairs. The lighted walls were Alinor bookshelves lit with torches, etc. It kind of looks like Camelot meets Coldharbour, lol.

But yeah, as rare as that Culanda Lacquer is = it will stay expensive unless they increase the drop rate. Maybe that will end up being something you can buy with Telvar stones, like the Hakeijo runes are. That is how the price finally dropped on the Hakeijos = people could buy them with Telvar and flood the market with them.

rollinglaugh.gif Yeah, you have to choose her best few combat skills and one weapon style to fill one hot bar and duplicate that on both bars to minimize your expenditure in combat skills but still have an effective fighter for self defense when needed. Take only the passives needed for those particular combat skills/her racial passives/and armor passives for her armor style. (based on whatever you have left over after your crafting skills are filled in)

You can tweak their effectiveness by toying with Armor, Mundus, Attributes, and Champion Points to make them effective enough in self defense.

Also, once they have researched everything they need to, resetting their skill points then will give you back any skill points spent in speeding up their researching.

I just respec'd all my crafters when Summerset dropped and they gave us one week of such low cost skill point resets = made a huge difference in their fighting abilities. Of course, they are at level 160 and still wearing level 1 armor (or buck naked under a costume) = so they may still die fairly easily if they can't kill the enemies quickly first, laugh.gif What keeps them alive through most fights is their Champion Points.

Blossom's not really ready for testing her DPS, as she's still collecting her gear. Laurie helped her make some Hunding's, and she's trying to collect the right bits of Spriggan's to go with it (and so she's got a lot of Seventh Legion, and Vampire Lord). She doesn't have any Monster pieces, either. So her axes are a bit underpowered, waiting for set ones to replace them.

The dummy's there because she wanted one. And you don't get one and not hit it. Laurie gave it a whack or two when she made it, and her output's less than Blossom's, but she's a tank, so she isn't too worried. Of course, Laurie was also whispering in Blossom's ear persuading her she'd like a dummy, because Laurie wanted to make one.

It was a little bit of a grind; but not too bad. I think there is a piece in every Province plus something like four in Clockwork City or something = can't remember. But I have to stop myself from picking up the one in Stonefalls every time I see it, lol. It is right where I loot regularly; and is so tempting to grab; laugh.gif

Out of all the pieces, the only one I had trouble finding was hidden in the far part of Clockwork City. The rest of them kind of were easy to find. That one = even with directions to it from friends on TeamSpeak I had trouble finding it; and finally a guy brought me right to the spot and I still had trouble seeing it, lol. That one wasn't easy, but the rest weren't bad at all.

Maybe our Guild could have a scavenger hunt so we could all get one for our houses? That would be a nice Guild Meet fun run!

We now have one at Sleek Creek (thanks to Unna). I'll switch my Primary residence to there soon, so everyone can go there.

Finding the parts wasn't hard, but getting the Integral of Reason meant starting the main Clockwork City quest and doing the first half-dozen quests, otherwise the area was locked. That rules it out as a Guild run, unless everyone has the DLC, and has done most of that quest-line.

Now that Laurie can make a Hlaalu bat tub, we've installed one - plus a wash basin, and a single, presumably cold, faucet over it - at Sleek Creek, in the "outhouse". That arrangement avoids the need for screening it off, but the other homes need dividers or something similar. I looked at the price of the blueprints for the Dres ones to use in the Saint Delyn Penthouse, and decided I need a plan B. Some of the other homes could use one, too, and I'll be having the same problem, although not all dividers cost an arm and a leg, and Laurie can already make Redguard, Khajiit or Wood Elf ones.

Does anyone have experience of buying random plans from Rollis?

I used to be addicted to buying the random plans from him; but got so many repeats of the same item that when they doubled the prices on those random plans I stopped buying those. It is kind of like the crates, it is a crap shoot whether you get anything you need or want.

Now I just find out the correct name of exactly what I want to be able to craft and then go buy it from the guild traders. Whenever I see anything I like in a friend's home, I stop immediately and ask them for the full name of it and write it down. Then I go to the Tamriel Trade Center and find out who has the plans for sale.

https://us.tamrieltradecentre.com/pc/Trade

You can type the full name or just type a portion of the name into the "Tamriel Trade Center" site (above or just Google it) and it will give you a drop down list of any items with that word in it = choose the one you want and click on it. It will open up a second page that tells you which guild traders have that item and how much they are selling it for (and when someone last searched for it). It defaults to showing you the most recent finds; but you can click on "Price" to sort it by lowest price too.

That way you are only buying what you want, not relying on the RNG to give you something you might (not) need or want.

Sorry, I haven't rolled the dice with Rollis yet. Jerric has to finish the Vvardenfell achievement before he can buy the Morrowind ones. He is not even close yet. Pog has been buying purple plans at the Guild traders.

Posted by: ghastley Sep 24 2018, 08:23 PM

I'm using the TTC to get plan prices, and the nice Dres dividers are more than the price of Autumn's Gate! If Minx decides she wants somewhere larger (like the Ald Velothi Harbour House) then we might use enough to make it worth spending. Or we might put a Dark Elf bedroom in Mathiisen Manor, and use a few.

Posted by: haute ecole rider Sep 25 2018, 02:47 PM

I still roll at Rolis for the purple and blue random plans - we are still getting 50% new plans (new to Maz anyway), the rest we just put up for sale at our traders.

As of yet Maz can't do the Morrowind ones, she has not yet gone to vvardenfell. Phae has the requirement, and we probably could give her the vouchers to hit up the snooty one, but we haven't tried that yet.

At this point, a year and a half into housing, we've decided to not spend any more money on plans unless it is something we are going to use a lot of (and Maz has already learned most of those). If we need only one or two of something for a specific instance, I just send the materials to my housing guild GM and he makes them for me. If that is the case for you with the Dres dividers, ghastley, I'd be happy to ask him to make them for the mats. If you have the mats, I can pass them on to him and pass the dividers back to you.

I am not as heavily into the Alinor stuff as I thought I would be - it's just too German Romantic to appeal to me. It feels like it belongs in palaces of the royalty and not the humble homes of the working class like my gang. The boudoir Redguard style is as fancy as my toons want to get.

German Romantic is what I call the Gothic Revival style that was popular in Germany about 200 years ago - emphasis on dark wood, light stone, massive furnishings meant to intimidate the common folk - not very comfortable at all to me!

Went digging on DuckDuckGo and found a few images of German interiors that pretty much epitomize that period

I was just making a joke, (hence the "roll on floor laughing" emote). I knew what you meant. The truth is, so far it is the only style that they have given us decent building blocks for; so I actually have gone nuts playing with them, which is why I attached that screenshot, lol.

I didn't respond at the time, but we did buy the plans and make a pair. I reason that I am going to get more Dunmer houses, and will put them to good use. In fact, we hit the slot limit in the St Delyn Penthouse and are getting restless right now.

I'm also softening my stance on not using crown-purchase furnishings. With my purchase of the last couple of mounts for Unna and Floozie, there's little left in the store that we're saving for. I'm collecting gold as fast as I'm wanting new homes, so paying Crowns for houses isn't needed. Those nice Redguard chairs, and the firelogs, and the books may get acquired soon.

Any advice re buying single pieces versus packs?

Posted by: haute ecole rider Jan 8 2019, 06:35 PM

If the Pack has a TON of really neat furnishings that you must have, then get the pack.

I've seen that the furnishings in the packs tend to be duplicated in the CS, with the exception of a couple of items - the statues in the Dibella and Clockwork City packs come to mind.

I got two Dibella packs because I liked the statue that much, but I passed on the Clockwork pack because there weren't very many items I wanted, and those that I did want were available in the CS. Same with the New Life pack. So I hope that helps.

Posted by: ghastley Jan 8 2019, 09:02 PM

I'll be trying it later, but I may as well ask now. Has anyone used the /sethome command of EHT? Each of my characters has a place they call their own, and I regularly park them there, but I'm wondering what downside there might be. After all, it would have been easy for ZOS to do it per character, instead of just per player.

Still, they don't provide for a guildhall to be saved for a guild, so maybe it's just a "not worth their effort" decision.

Posted by: ghastley Feb 1 2019, 05:11 PM

Does anyone have a furnished Gardner House I could look at? I previewed it, and wasn't impressed by the ZOS furnished look, and the empty house has overdone the open-plan thing. I'm really looking for ideas on slicing it up.

We haven't bought it yet, but I'm considering it for Floozie's graduation present when she hits level 50. The proximity to Rolis will help Laurie with Master Writ turn-ins as well.

Posted by: ghastley Feb 4 2019, 09:40 PM

Another query for the group. Unna just completed the achievements for Hero of the Ebonheart Pact (because she could) and I note that it entitles us to purchase the Ebonheart Chateau for gold, instead of crowns. We have 2.4M of the 3.8M required, and could probably get there fairly quickly by doing all the top-level daily crafting across the team.

After doing Cadwell's Gold, she's not far from the same achievement in the other two alliances, but buying all three manors is more than 10M gold total. Has anyone bought them all for gold, or did you use Crowns? Because Floozie is a Breton, she'd prefer that we get Daggerfall Overlook first, and maybe instead of the Gardner House. However, Laurie wants that one to reach Rolis faster. tongue.gif

Posted by: Grits Feb 4 2019, 09:53 PM

Sorry, Jerric’s crew hasn’t bought any of those houses for Crowns or gold. If they do it will be for gold. Crowns are reserved for horses, dogs, and dresses. tongue.gif

The Flaming Nix room is a good step-stone to Rolis. Mournhold is my most used writ spot.

I personally do not like to spend Crowns on furniture either; because it is real world money spent on a game/virtual item. I don't even like buying Pets or Mounts with Crowns = not to say I haven't done it; I have a few times. I just really don't like to. When they legalized the Gold for Crowns Exchange; I was thrilled; and kind of went on a spending spree for a little while.

Then this past December they finally opened up the household furnishings in the Crown Store in exchange for Gold in game! (before this past December the Crown furnishings lists that you can only access while inside your home were not attainable by Gold to Crown exchanges; but midway through December they removed that restriction! WOO HOO !!!! )

The Special furniture "Packs" for Events/Holidays = those are usually NOT available for gifting; so would not be able to be purchased with a Gold/Crowns exchange (but some of the basic year round packs possibly could be; just look for the "Giftable" logo in the Crown Store to see what you can buy for Gold/Crown exchanges.

* If interested:

You have to find a Broker; and it has to be items marked as "Giftable" in the Crown Store (some things aren't).

The exchange rate (Gold per Crown) varies depending on the market. (in the past week it went up from (150 Gold per Crown) to (200 Gold per Crown).

How it works is that you contact a Broker to buy the Crown items you want. (so shop first before contacting them; and have the exact name of the item you want written down with spelling correct because you will need to be exact).

I use my SneakyBo Guild to get the lowest prices in the exchange; and because there is no middleman with my Guild = I just contact the Guild Master and tell them what I want; send them the gold; and they send me the items in minutes.

Before SneakyBo started Brokering Crowns I used the Tamriel Crown Exchange (who has Gina Bruno as an Officer). They are more expensive and you have to deal with a Broker and a "Procurer" = neither of whom are people you know personally; so you are meeting them outside of towns so they can tell it is you meeting them (not in the middle of a crowd trying to see names). You have to wait till all three are there; then trusting strangers to send it in the mail that might spell your account name wrong; etc = it was very uncomfortable for me.

I was really glad when my Guild started Brokering so I didn't have to use the Exchange anymore. The difference is = the Tamriel Crown Exchange works well for people who are not in a Guild that Brokers Crowns. They are there for everyone who has no one else to turn to first. (they would never be my first choice now that I know how easy it can be with your own Guilds).

* Houses:

They are wavering right now on selling houses for a "Gold to Crown" exchange because it turns out to be a lot cheaper exchanging Gold for Crowns than buying them for Gold via the normal route. So to buy houses you have to "Apply" and may or may not be approved.

If approved; the Exchange cannot (or will not) do furnished houses = NO furniture. That means no free rocks; lights; trees; etc.

I actually bought Coldharbour that way; but there was a LONG wait for them to approve the sale = about a month from the time I paid till I received the Surreal Estate on my account. And they come stripped bare; no "free" Lights or anything. I finally (after a month) got a message in my game mailbox from ESO's system = telling me that I had to log out and log back in; and Coldharbour would be on my account when I logged back in.

The reason they are balking on allowing the houses is because the price buying it this way is SO much lower than their set Gold price that they would get overwhelmed with people wanting to buy it via the Exchange. They don't want the hassle.

Posted by: mALX Feb 5 2019, 01:02 AM

Okay; in answer to your other questions:

Sometimes the packs have a unique item in them that makes the rest of the pack worth buying if you want that one item bad enough = example: The big crow combat dummy was AWESOME! = but you could only get it in that pack. (that pack also had a scarecrow with crows flying around and landing on it intermittently; a crow that would perch inside your house and move its head looking around; etc = things you can't buy anywhere or anytime else but in that pack. So you really have to hit that "R" key and review what is in each pack to determine if you think it is worth the 4000 (or so) Crowns. Some of them are def worth it (like the above one with the crows; or the Dibella one that Haute bought; etc). But some of them aren't worth anything because ZOS has loaded them up with crates and barrels that have zero value or their plainest pieces.

I haven't bought that Gardner House; but you can check out YouTube vids to see how others have decorated there for some ideas or inspiration, etc.

I have not even bought one of the noble houses at all yet; really not sure if I will; though I have earned the Achievements to get all three. They cost a lot of money; and if I'm not mistaken they only come with 700 inventory slots and aren't close enough to any amenities. I prefer the smaller houses for my own use; (when not trying to make a guild hall, lol).

N00b question: Can I turn in at any Rolis? The Master Writ quest always points me specifically at Wayrest (for Laurie) or Mournhold (for Unna) rather than giving me a list of possible locations.

I suspect a One Tamriel change that didn't get updated in the UI. I still see some of the regular writ quests telling me to turn in elsewhere.

Yes, you can turn in master writs to any Rolis despite the fact that the quest 'points' you to the Rolis in your alliance.

At some point I need to decide which is now the quickest to get to. Now Floozie has the Gardner House, I can go there direct from the Psijic Villa after using the Guild's stations, so it's probably going to win over the Snugpod alternative, but there won't be much in it.

And mentioning the Gardner House reminds me. I was comparing prices for plans and furnishings, and noticed that some lower-level plans are cheaper than an item made from them. The Purples are usually a considerable multiple for the plan, and Laurie debates for a long time before buying the plan (always). Anyone in a trade guild have a clue where those prices come from?

You can travel to any house from the Villa; including Snugpod. Snugpod is smaller, but is very close to a Wayshrine; Guild Traders; Merchants; the Undaunted Enclave; a Stables; and both a Writ turn in spot and a Master Writ turn in spot. Gardner house doesn't offer all those amenities; it is just a lot bigger. It may be in town; but is not convenient to the needed facilities.

Also, what Grits said above = the Flaming Nix in Mournhold = it is my second favorite house of all of them (Sleek Creek in Rawl'kha is my top favorite). The Nix is just as convenient as Snugpod; but add to that convenience to crafting stations and a price of @ 13,000 gold! Can't beat that!

The best way I can think of to make a decision on which houses to buy is to walk from the house to the nearest facilities you might want access to from them. The biggest of these has to be a Wayshrine. Anything beyond that it offers is a plus.

Addendum: The prices on anything at the Guild Traders is based on how many there are on the market. The rarer the item; the higher the price to buy it. If the market is flooded with them, they will go for nothing no matter how much they cost to make.

Posted by: haute ecole rider Feb 20 2019, 04:03 PM

I have two locations I really like for crafting/writ turn-ins: the Captain Margaux House in Daggerfall and the Flaming Nix apartment in Mournhold. I have my two crafters - Maz and Alise, parked there, both places are set up with seven crafting stations for their daily crafting writs. Both have Tythis living there as well, it makes it convenient to bank deconstruction items and pass master writs around.

The only drawback with the Margaux house is having to cross all of Daggerfall to get to the writ drop off and wayshrine, this is when Maz takes Madanach the stallion out for his daily run.

The Flaming Nix really has no drawback, the wayshrine, writ drop off location, and Rolis are all right there. Alise doesn't even mount, she just runs.

Snugpod is neat, but I really hate having to go inside and upstairs just to use crafting stations - it seems there is a lot more running involved.

As for surveys/master writs, generally every four days or so I have Maz go out and collect all the surveys, then hop to mALX's Villa to do the master writs, then port to Alise's Nix to drop off the writs. It makes for a nice change of scenery, though we curse every time we have a survey in a fairly inaccessible location . . .

On an unrelated note, I'm off these next four days (even Saturday ohmy.gif ), so I will be working with EHT's animation effects - I have an idea for one of my smaller homes that I'm dying to put into practice. It will be a challenge, but any of you with an updated version of EHT will be welcome to come see . . .
