So Bethesda announced that Hearthfire, a piece of shiny new DLC, will be coming out in just a few days time.

I for one am super super excited. What do you all think?
Damn it! I was just about to post this.
Yeah, it looks good. I am sure many folks at the forums are pissed off that Heartfire is more like Fable/Sims than their little expansions.
I hope we get to build our own castle . . .and we get to marry Serana and adopt Babette
Cool. There's a mod out that does something similar, but this of course looks like it is better done. Sounds almost Minecraft-ish from the description.
Personally I'd prefer an Argonian child but hey, this is good enough. As long as I get to choose a nice location for my homestead I'll be happy, now I just need to work on stockpiling resources...
I am WAY more excited about this than I can express in polite language. My most beloved characters live on the PS3. Now I want to give them a new life on the Xbox.
Also if a giant steps on my cow, there is going to be real trouble around the homestead.
Maybe the adoptable children will fend off attacks with their tiny, invincible fists.
My first trip to the CK would be to remove the spawn points for enemies on my purchased plot of land, lol.
So Beth is announcing the next DLC, when PS3 players have not even gotten the first one yet? When will Hearthfire be available on PS3? 2015? I do not even own a PS3, and find this infuriating.
Righteous Rage™ aside, as opposed to Dawnguard, this DLC looks interesting to me. I actually guessed it right too. I was figuring that by the name, it would include that player-built house option that was in the Game Jam video. I was not expecting the adoption part though.
I can always make my own homes via the construction kit. But this might be easier and quicker. Plus it is always nicer to get a house by actually doing something in the game. I think the idea of giant attacks and skeever infestations might be fun. Unless they kill your adopted kids and livestock. Then as Grits said, there will be Oblivion to pay!
Yes, I want to spend my days walking uphill and downhill; shouting at things that could kill me; avoiding a giant angry cattle herder; worrying if I will have to deal with another rodent intrusion when I get home; go home to see the wife and two kids; worry that we're not bringing them up right; cook me own tea; also worry about whether we have enough money for the next round of home improvements or not and if that means me going out again...
And then I can play Skyrim too!!... ...
Nah, I think I'm looking forward to this one...
But yeah...Next year methinks...
I think the thing I'm most interested in with this, is whether the plots of land you can buy are specific...Like, you can only have this plot here, in each Hold...And whether you can only have one of a few specific layouts, in specific building materials depending on where you are in Skyrim...Like stone in Markath or wood in Falkreath or Whiterun...
Or, indeed, you can having the Burger King way - how you want it, wherever you want it...*cough*...As it were...
Aaaand, how much will everything be...That's going to be interesting too...
On a side note, the wife and kiddles are all looking forward to it hugely...And, rather unsurprisingly, the idea of adopting children made them all go "Awwwww!"...Although, the terror of my boy looking after kids doesn't bear thinking about...*Massages temples*...
Oddly enough, when I answered with "Christ no! I have enough trouble with you two, without bloody doing it in the game too..." they seemed a bit peeved for some reason... ...
Oh yes, we're not choosy over here... ...BK, KFC, Wimpey, McDonalds, Subway...Starbucks...Any others?...Ummmm...There's probably others...But I'm out in the sticks and there's only a few of them around here...Oooh!! Fatty Arbuckles...OK Diner... ...
What you call Wal-Mart is Asda over here...Though we did give you Tescos and Woolworths... ...
*Cough*...Sorry...Maybe Bethesda'll put one of them in Whiterun on a sponsorship deal... ...
Next skyrim DLC, the player gets a job and then has to start paying taxes and household bills along with butt-wiping and toilet scrubbing animations.
McB: I'm sorry! Jeez it sounds like you've got some of America's yuckiest foods over there! Granted, I'm a vegetarian so I guess I'm biased.
Though I'm sure you've all seen it by now...I found some info whilst trawling the Bethesda site...
Was tempted to steal some and put it here...However, as Lady Gaga does not wish to be spoiled... ...
A link instead!!...

Someone pointed out the possiblility of needing to be Thane to be able to build in a hold...Not a problem for me like, but again...Removal of choice for some...
I wonder if the carriage rides will conflict with my real-time carraige mod? That adds routes between all the cities.
I also wonder if the steward will be the skeleton butler we saw in the Gam Jam video.
I would kill for a skeleton butler.
Here's The Boy's comment upon viewing the video:
(SAGA: DO NOT CLICK)
I'm going to put one of the mods I've been making on hold until this DLC comes out... I'd love to use some of the construction features!
The thing I have always most wanted from the Game Jam video is that giant mudcrab at the end. Gojira attacks!
Yes, that will make "I've fought Mudcrabs more fearsome than you," a valid claim!
Not sure if you guys have seen this screenie yet, just saw it over on the forums.
Lady Saga avert your eyes

Ooooh...I like pie... ...No, I said pie...What I like...As I mentioned... ...
No...Don't look...It's all too...Nice...
Mmmm...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6stKBtHonA...
HAHAHA man I love the Mighty Boosh...and pie.
Let the ingredient hoarding commence!!
I'm betting that the house's layout will be predetermined with the ability to customise by room. Basically what I think is that it will be designed already and that you can just change minor details.
Either way I will be buying it. Looks like Bethsoft is finally getting an idea of the kind of things their fans want.
Well, it's a bit more rigid than that. You can choose what rooms you want, but the placement of furniture and walls and such is all pre-determined. The only choice you really have is "armory, library, or kitchen?"
But this also isn't the Sims, and considering just how fragile this engine is, it's probably a good thing Bethesda didn't try to go overboard with this DLC. They just added some spice to the pre-existing home mechanic here, is all, and considering the price, I wasn't really expecting anything more.
I'll be getting it for PC when it arrives, mostly because I look forward to the modding potential it will bring with it. Should be interesting to see what the modders do with this one, and I look forward to tinkering.
Fun enough for $5. It gives you a much larger place to settle down than any of the other houses available. There isn't much customisation but the fact that it is a fairly large building with the ability to move your family (including a couple of kids) in and bring a pet there.
The locations for the buildings are also pretty sweet spots and the mechanic that you use to build your home keep you busy for a while so it is good.
All in all I'm pretty happy I bought it.
It's on PC now!
Neat. This is one I actually am interested in getting. Though since I am not playing Skyrim right now I'll wait.
So is it out on PS3? My guess is no, since Bethesda desperately fears the money of Playstation users, and will do anything to insure they never get any of it.
SubRosa, your guess is correct.
I am experiencing a rather annoying bug with this DLC on the PC. Whenever I approach the area around Lakeview Manor, my game crashes instantly. This is really odd as it does not happen around the other houses. I found this on UESPwiki: The system may instantly crash upon attempting to approach the area around the manor. However, I can't seem to find any sloution anywhere.
The thing that really sucks is that Lakeview Manor is the only area in the DLC that appeals to me.
Try fast traveling there if you can.
Eh . . .so we get shrines to heathen gods like the Nine, and we don't get Daedric shrines!!!
I shall rage!
Darkness, just build the base and put your artifacts on it. That also makes a good surface for bones, bloody rags, and various necromancer tools.
Now that I got SKSE working with the 1.8 update, I bought Hearthfire. Flavia has gotten the invitation from the Falkreath Jarl to become his thane and build a house, but has not gone there yet. She has a war to win after all. I did notice that Crab Legs are in the list of things you can cook now. Sounds tasty. But they do not use mudcrab chitin. How do I get the new crab parts? I don't see them in the crabs I kill.
I just found that Hearthfire does not play well with Scenic Carriages. It causes a CTD every time I try to walk near Pinewatch. I looked it up in the wiki, and apparently Lakeview Manor is in the same cell. Somehow this screws with Scenic Carriages. I had to disable it in order to walk to Falkreath. It looks like folks are working on a Hearthfire patch for Scenic Carriages though.
