As well as being a big Elder Scrolls fan, I'm also a huge Magic: The Gathering fan. I just wanted to know if anyone else here likes the game, and to see their views on, and ideas about, the game.

P.S. - My absolute-favorite-card-of-all-time is Havoc Demon! What's yours?

I still like it a lot but I don't play much anymore. smile.gif

I went onboard right before sixth edition, and all series before that - on all levlels, and expert level series up until prophecy are good in my book.
The turns the game took after that, and particularly the new "revamp", were pretty much downhill IMHO.

MTG was the first trading card game I got into, and nothing could beat that kiddy feeling of looking through your 6th ed tournament pack, and whatever you could afford of mercadian masques. Or the big-shot leets trading tons of oldies you could impress your friends with for one rare card they needed. On this one tournament, the winning team gave us their foil Serra Angels. It was wonderful. smile.gif

Too bad it sucks now.
(I'll think about the card)

I personally like the newer expansions better, buy I first heard about around Invasion and started around Judgement. I think the magic community is slipt in half, with half saying the game's as good as ever and the other half saying that it's been going downhill. In my experience, the former is usually made up of people that came in around Mercadian Masques-Invasion, and the former is made up of the people that have been with the game a while.

I've only ever been to one tournament, and my mom had to pull me out right before the finals because it was 3 o'clock and we lived about an hour and a half away lol.

Never got into MTG myself. I've got some friends who do have it as a hobby and from time to time I've tried to watch when they play but never really got a grip of what was happening. kvleft.gif

So I decided it wasn't my thing so now I'm usually either always the observer or then I'll be the guy who quietly walks away when those cards come out.

Whenever I try to explain the game to someone else, it usually ends in them thinking I'm crazy. Especially adults.

I actually taught the game to my mom, because there was not a single MTG player at my old school, and I was getting desperate.

Anyway, I like the game a lot, but I think the recent editions have been extremely stupid. Early in the game, you had to think of good combinations by using your own creativity (Viashino + Furious Assault, Necropotence + black minnies). More recently, such combinations have been spoon-fed to players (Wellwisher + Elves, the use of Avatars), which has effectively taken away the usefulness of intelligence in playing the game. It makes me rather angry, but I have a cousin who feels the same way I do, so we can play together without any trouble.

My favorite card is probably Viashino Cutthroat. I love that card.

Just for kicks, I came up with a hand which will win the game in the first turn. If you're playing casual (i.e., you can mulligan infinite times without losing cards, as long as you have no lands), you can craft a deck around this hand that is guaranteed to win every game. The hand:

1 Serra Avatar
1 Sneak Attack
1 Lightning Bolt (optional)
1 Sol Ring
1 Mox Ruby
1 Lotus Petal
1 Black Lotus

Tap all your mana for red, play Sneak Attack, use its ability to play the Serra Avatar, which, this being the first turn, is a 20/20, and attack. Use the spare mana and the lightning bolt to clear out any minnies your opponent might have played if (s)he went first, or to add overkill. Since the combo requires no lands, you can make a land-free deck, and, in casual play, keep misdealing forever until you get a hand that works.

Mwahahaha.

A lot of people I knew played it back in Illinois. It seemed to have been popular. I, myself, never got into it. I'm not a card gamer. I prefer the PC.

I play, teehee! Quite a few boys at the high school I go to play it.

I'm only a beginner though, so I don't have a definite favourite card. I only have one deck right now (a slowish black/red deck).
