QUOTE(mALX @ Jun 27 2019, 01:10 AM) For three days now, I can't get the PM page to load in a full page. It is only loading a little at a time; and you have to scroll down to get the lower sections of the page; but then the upper sections all disappear and all I see is the brown backdrop.
It is happening every time on the PM page; (but not sure if it is doing it anywhere else on this site).
I am not having trouble with any other sites; just this one. Anyone else noticing this?
Gotta confess I have no idea what our 'PM page' is. That said, the site's been working as normal for me during the period you specify. Addendum: Oh, it is that little PM button under our icons that takes us to private messages? I just tried that. It fully loads for me, no problem. I took a quick look at the page source for the PM list and a regular page, and they appear to use the same scripts and style sheets. I'd thought that maybe a PM-specific script was causing issues, but there doesn't seem to be one.
The symptoms you describe do match up to a problem downloading a script, because of where they are in the sequence of of the content. So I was ready to blame a script-blocker add-on to your browser, until I found all the same scripts on the other pages. It's a mystery, still.
Performance could be improved by moving some scripts to the bottom of the source page, if they're only there to handle post-load events, but you'd only do that if there was a general problem, and this site is usually very fast and efficient.
But one thought did cross my mind. When I look at the PM list, it shows me small numbers for the message counts. I have only 197 of my 50,000 allotment in use. If you have a figure at the other end of the scale, and it has to go count them each time, ...

So Dr. Ghastley, does that mean I can still slide in Darkness Eternal’s DMs and tell her how much I love her for being the local Big Biddy Goth GF?

I also usually have a very fast load, this just started a few days ago = and I also wondered if deleting some of my mail might fix the issue. I will try clearing out some of the backlog. Thank you everyone for your help! OH! and - just to clarify = it is not the page full of all the PM's listed that is slow to load; that one is loading just fine. It is when you choose to read any one of the PM's and click on it = opening up the PM itself is the page that is so slow. This post has been edited by mALX: Jun 27 2019, 02:47 PM

QUOTE(treydog @ Jun 27 2019, 02:13 PM) Was going to suggest Firefox as an alternative. I use it by preference because it easier to manage privacy settings- or seems so.
That said- I agree with you about some of the interface decisions they made being counter-intuitive.
Still- hope that solves the problem with Chorrol. You could always make Chorrol your Firefox home page and use a different browser for other things...?
This is what I've ended up having to do already. It does bring back access to using links in my email box; but for some reason the pages it brought me to kept crashing. So right now I am already back to Chrome for my email account. But yeah; Mozilla's layout is really weird; and going to my Imgur account they have changed the shape of my images to some long horizontal line with very little vertical in the pics/screens = really bad. So I'm also reverting back to Chrome already for my Imgur account. Urk. I plan to try Brave soon too; just haven't had the time yet. I am hoping to somehow come out of this with a "One Browser" solution. QUOTE(Decrepit @ Jun 27 2019, 03:10 PM) Hurrah for Firefox Don't forget you can try Brave, which is based on the same engine (Chromium????) as Chrome, so you might like its layout better than FF. Me, I prefer Firefox, but Brave now holds a firm second-place in my black heart of hearts. Your black heart? No way!!!!

You could look at Yslow but that's really for web developers. I sometimes find it helps for page issues on the client-side, too.

I have bookmarked the page, thank you very much! Thank you all so much for your help! Earlier today the Chrome page worked once for opening a message from Acadian; but was still not working for the main forums page. (and haven't checked it again on trying to open another PM). Mozilla Firefox is not workable for my emails or Imgur; but I do plan to keep it up for YouTube vids and this site at least until Chrome gets fixed. I also plan to try Brave in hopes that it keeps the ease of use Chrome has for my handicaps (that Mozilla Firefox does not).

Looking at this page made me notice that treydog's avatar image doesn't exist any more, so the browser continued trying to load it for some time, before giving up. That's only going to happen on a page where there's a treydog reply, of course, and won't happen if you happen to have a cached one (except that I think this BB uses #pragma nocache to force reload of everything). I wonder if the issue is image-related?
Look for any options that might hold up rendering the page until all the images are loaded.

It does have A LOT of trouble loading the "Waiting for Oblivion" pic at the top of the page on the main forums page and when you are trying to load up a PM. Where would I search for that option to see if it is causing the issue?

Yes- wherever I used to have my pic hosted got "disappeared" and I keep forgetting to use Imgur (most likely) to fix that. I seem to recall my other go-to image sites as becoming hopeless. (Photobucket and Imageshack I think).
