I posted here for a while some time ago, and is wont to happen with me, drifted back to different RPG series upon acquiring a dramatically better computer. I get distracted far too easily.. However, I recently began playing Oblivion again, and while searching for information on something, re-found this lovely little community. I remember this place for being one of those exceedingly rare oases where people are generally very pleasant and accepting of one another, and I'm very pleased it is still here! By some miracle, I managed to figure out my user name by looking at old threads, and by an even greater miracle, I actually remembered my password! So, I decided to log in and wave. That's all, really, I just wanted to express my delight that you guys are still happily posting, and enjoying one anthers' company. Here, in appreciation of all that you do, is a screenshot I recently took.

Awesome, good to see another Oblivion player out there. I still play year-round myself, although in September I finally took a weeks-long hiatus because .... I got really infatuated with Morrowind. But I returned to Oblivion last week, and in the midst of making a Lizardmen mod for it. :geek: I agree, people here are pleasant. Nothing wrong with an occasional disagreement, but when it gets to the point that negativity abounds, I myself usually scram. You won't see much of that here. Chorrol really is a gem in that way. What is your character's name and background? I pretty much have been playing the same characters for years: a Wood Elf Archer named Lady Saga, an Imperial Warrior named Renee Gade III, and (on Xbox) a Breton Crusader named Joan of Arkay. I have a couple other ideas for this game, but .... the three mentioned already take so much of my time.

@Renee, Heh! Morrowind is a good game to become infatuated by. I do have to admit, I think that of the ES series it will always be my first love. However, I've really come to appreciate Oblivion a great deal over the years, and I very much feel it is one of those diamonds in the rough; I'd even argue that once it is polished by some key mods, it might even be the best out of the last three in the series. They all have their different positives, and negatives, though. Yes, I concur, if nobody ever disagreed, they wouldn't be human, but there are different ways of expressing that disagreement, and, call me an idealist maybe, but I've never understood why basic decency has to go flying through the window, or that people simply can't "agree to disagree" in a civil manner. So yes... I really do appreciate Chorrol for that; everyone seems acutely sensitive to the fact that there are real people, with real feelings, behind the user names. Anyway... My current character actually began her life in Morrowind, and I have recreated her in Oblivion. Her name is Mirelle, and she is a Breton mage, born under the Atronach, who specialises in Conjuration and Alchemy. She is also learning to use the bow, for those times when she runs out of both magicka and magicka potions. Later on, once I have dealt with the day's necessities, I may post a screenshot of her in the appropriate thread, along with more on her background. I love the sounds of your characters, and my hat off to you for also playing tankier, warrior builds. I have tried, and tried.. but in any game I always gravitate back to rogues and mages. *sigh* This post has been edited by ArtemisNoir2: Oct 22 2018, 07:56 PM

Some of us are actually dogs. But the feelings are still real.

Mods for The Elder Scrolls single-player games, and I play ESO.

Wow, so she started in Morrowind, that's pretty neat! I can't wait to see some pictures. WE can't wait, I should say. What did Mirelle do in Morrowind, quest-wise? This summer I decided to take one of my old Oblivion characters (who died while doing the Main Quest) and make a younger version of her for Morrowind. It's because the events of MW take place before OB. She's a semi-evil mage. I've learned a LOT about how magic works in Morrowind because of her obsessive devotion to it. None of them are really pure tanks. Renee Gade III is loosely based on Xena. RG3 uses magic which I've noticed Xena would use on that show. So... healing spells, for her and others. Also, a Drain Health-type spell (to simulate Xena's ability at disabling foes by mere touch) though she never uses that one anymore. Joan of Arkay is more tank-y I guess, since she often wears heavy armor, but she also uses a lot of healing spells, Shield, Turn Undead, and other stuff appropriate for a devotee of Arkay. Hmm, can't find a pic at the moment. Come and think of it, I've played pure fighters in Skyrim, but it's been awhile since I've had one in Oblivion.

QUOTE(ghastley) Some of us are actually dogs. But the feelings are still real. Sooo.... you are telling me that, in fact, one of the fine storytellers here, Treydog, actually crafts his work with all four paws !?! That's talent indeed. And here I just thought that it was only a user name.. little did I guess. QUOTE(Lopov) A great screenie you posted - your graphics in Oblivion is quite enhanced, right?
But I'll return to Cyrodiil at some point...I always do. Yes... very enhanced... I'm actually amazed, given how heavily modded my game is, that it runs so smoothly with few issues. I am using all of the stability suggestions by Bevilex (minus ENBoost and anything Oblivion Reloaded related), so I'm guessing those all help. Indeed.... Cyrodiil has a strong lure to it, and best of all, in my case, it's probably the one I've played the least completely, so there is a huge amount of content I have yet to see. I'm really enjoying this character in Oblivion so far; maybe I'll even try KoTN with her.. which I've never done. I realise it's not really the most applicable quest chain for a mage, but I'm sure Mirelle can find a good reason for doing it. QUOTE(SubRosa) It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! *chuckles* You know, it only just hit me now, how seasonal that shot is! When I took it, I was simply thinking, "Hey, that would make a nice shot!" QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit) Welcome back to you! Don’t be a stranger! Thank you! I shall very much try not to be... I really wish I'd never drifted away. I mean... I have spent waaaay too much time on Reddit, which just isn't very pleasant, usually; there's no sense of community there at all. But I was playing games like the Witcher and Dragon Age series, and found myself there via internet searches, so I became sucked in, ugh. Love the games.. but their communities, at least the Witcher one, are terrible. QUOTE(Grits) Hello and welcome back! Thank you for the gorgeous harvest screenshot. Your game looks beautiful!
Thank you very much! As I wrote above, the harvest theme was oddly accidental, but now I'm really glad I took it. QUOTE(Renee) Wow, so she started in Morrowind, that's pretty neat! I can't wait to see some pictures. WE can't wait, I should say. What did Mirelle do in Morrowind, quest-wise?

I'll post a couple of pictures tomorrow, when I describe her in some detail, which I'll place in the Character thread... since that seems a good place Mirelle rose to the rank of Telvanni Arch Magister... and she danced a very careful, balanced dance, since she was opposed to the less savoury aspects of her chosen Great House. She also became head of the Thieve's Guild and went on to lead the Temple; even though she wasn't sure either were a good fit, she did so because it seemed sound political strategy. Similarly... she maintained close ties with the Blades, which has bearing upon her reasons for being in Cyrodiil. Hmm.. a semi-evil mage, eh? I have to admit that I've always experienced difficulty playing evil.. In D&D terms, my characters, at most, might be Chaotic Neutral, so respect to you. Have you found it all challenging? Hmmm... well magic, just makes things better... Besides, I could also see something like healing for any kind of warrior, to be honest, it makes sense. Plus, I'm just influenced by D&D paladins, I'm guessing. Phew! That was a long post! Very glad I found my way back here... and the timing feels right too, since I've also been toying with the idea of some writing, and this is the right place for it. I'll see, though.. still working out some details in my head.

QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Oct 22 2018, 07:33 PM) Hey Artemis, do you play or are you considering playing Elder Scrolls Online?
Eeeek! OK, I have considered it.. but, to be honest, the last thing I really need right now is to become sucked into an MMO. Also, I've played other MMOs, in the past (notably Lord of the Rings Online and Guild Wars 2), and the same thing always happens. I'll really enjoy it for a time, and then burnout sets in, because of the grindiness, or I'll become irritated by other players. I'm not saying I'll never play ESO, but if I do, it probably wouldn't be soon.

That said, Khajiit has played ESO for almost two years now, mainly due to the awesome and supportive players from here at Chorrol. We set up our own little guild so if you ever do decide to give it a try, let us know and we will welcome you with open arms! Not trying to pressure you or anything, just issuing an invitation! I never played WoW or ESO, but I was into the original Everquest for awhile. That's the only MMO I had. Did not have a very good internet connection in those days (*cough* phone line....) so I only spent maybe a month in that game. Are you also named Artemis at Reddit? I am not a member there, but I've done plenty of lurking. Actually I was reading old posts there this past summer, learning tricks of how to make magic more effective in Morrowind. I have noticed.... Morrowind is waaaaay different from the others when it comes to magic! I don't know what your experience was like, but I had to literally learn how to make Igodah effective as a mage. QUOTE(ArtemisNoir2 @ Oct 22 2018, 10:24 PM) Hmm.. a semi-evil mage, eh? I have to admit that I've always experienced difficulty playing evil.. In D&D terms, my characters, at most, might be Chaotic Neutral, so respect to you. Have you found it all challenging? Back in my table-game days (this is the 1980s, was in high school) all my characters were goody-types. It actually wasn't until Oblivion circa 2010 that I made my first evil-type. Maybe it's because Cyrodiil is all colloquial and sunny and pleasant, it was easy for me to desire some sort of contrast to this after 2+ years. Luci Pheria was a dark elf witch, and it wasn't hard for me to come up with her idea because she was based on the evil Wizard of Oz witch. And storybook witches in general are usually not so good. So I wanted to see how this would play out in TES: IV. She did absolutely zero quests once she was outside of the sewers, which is pretty neat because this meant those ideas I rolled were entertaining enough that I didn't need any Bethesda stories to support her RP. Even Dark Brotherhood.... Luci was supposed to be insane. She despised pretty much everyone! There's no way she would accept taking orders from some posh underground establishment!
