It is part of a trilogy quest; first go to chorrol and do the "Seperated at Birth" quest, (find the missing twin brother, then meet them again in Chorrol), then do the "Legacy Lost" quest. (Find Weatherleah and kill the 3 ogres).

Go back to Chorrol and wait 3 days, then stand outside. A man will come up to you and ask you to retrieve "something" from the Redguard Valley Cave. It is very near Weatherleah. (The twins father stole it from the Castle, and the ogres took it).

Follow your journal to the cave. 18 ogres, but you can avoid most of them by dropping into the pit in the first big room, go right and follow it all the way through to the very end, a small room with one ogre. Kill him and take the sword from him.

**********************

1. Your Journal will tell you to take it to the Castle and turn it in, ignore that, the reward you get isn't worth losing that sword.

2. If you are not in the Thieves Guild, just keep the sword.

3. If you are in the Thieves Guild, but Fathis Ules is not your fence yet : just keep the sword till he is.

4. If you are in the Thieves Guild and Fathis Ules is your fence, or are the guildmaster of the Thieves Guild, save the game and bring it back to the man, he pays you about 1500 for it, don't close out the screen, go to the barter screen and buy it back from him for 2000.

The reason I said save the game first is that he sometimes won't sell it back to you. If he doesn't then just load that save and keep the sword without talking to him, then go back to him when he becomes my fence in the Thieves Guild, or when he will sell it back to you.

5. When you buy the sword back from him your journal tells you to go tell the brothers about their father's sins, DONT DO IT! Ignore your journal again, the brothers will hate you the rest of the game if you tell them about their father. Just keep the quest as unfinished the rest of the game (like you do with Umbra)

The sword is awsome, it has to have some special powers because it is stronger than any other ebony blade. It weighs zero the rest of the game, and you can save money on repairs by doing it yourself. The Honor Blade starts out 10 hit points higher than any other sword, and I have had it grow to 35 hit points. I have had Umbra at 37 when the Honor Blade was at 32, and the Honor Blade killed quicker and cleaner than Umbra. (and it kills undead, daedra, vampires, everything). Even after you buy it back, you still can't drop it, meaning you can't enchant it, but it has never needed it for me. It ROCKS killing anything!

6. Or, you can just keep it.

I gotta say that this is debatable, Malx. In fact, at high-level gameplay, it's far, far better to turn the sword over for the castle's reward.

Depending on the level you're at, getting the Escutcheon of Chorrol (the reward for turning the Honorblade in to the Chorrol Castle Steward Laythe Wavrick) is one of the best items in the game. At level 25 or above, the shield comes with a 35% Reflect Damage enchantment, and it is absolutely required to become immune to all melee attacks (not counting weapon enchantments). The shield also fortifies Endurance by ten points, which is the nice equivalent of a 20-point boost in health whenever it's equipped.

The next-best item in terms of damage-reduction is probably a Perfect Madness Shield or Perfect Amber Shield from the Shivering Isles expansion, with a 10% Reflect Damage enchantment. Unless utilizing mods or making changes in the Construction Set, Reflect Damage is not available as a custom enchantment. Additionally, the Perfect Madness Shield only provides 1.25 extra points of baseline armor rating.

Unless one has low skill in Heavy Armor, the statistical reductions in damage are greater for the Escutcheon of Chorrol than any other item in the game. With the ease of acquiring game-breaker swords with custom enchantments (elemental damage, weakness to elements, weakness to magic, and soul trap for 1-second duration stacked onto a single weapon) stacking enchantment damage can do thousands of points of damage in a single second.

You mean you do the Odil quest at level (X) and wait till level 25 to go get it? Or do you mean you go do the quest at level 25? Or do you mean you just knock Odil out and take Chillrend from him by force at level 25? ROFL !!!

I hate trying to keep those kids of his alive, and always want to smack Odil down for sitting in that bar drinking when his kids are in danger, lol.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to do the Odil quest at level one, wait, and then talk to dad for the sword at level 25.

I didn't know you could do that !! I would have been waiting for the stronger enchantments for a lot of things then !! Like ... Fingers on the Mountain !!!

You're better off making a level 25 Finger of the Mountain at a spellmaking altar. Check out the magicka cost!

Another quest that is better done early is A Brush with Death. Just don't talk to anyone and immediately leave the house when you get back from inside the painting.

Malx, if you've got PC Oblivion (which I believe you do), download Supreme Magicka. Finger of the Mountain goes from "only useful at levels 1-4" to "Best Endgame Lightning Spell available." It also causes Birthsign and Racial Powers to level as well, making some of those powers incredibly useful.

Oh, definitely! Why in the name of [insert deity of your choice here] doesn´t he get off his lazy butt and help them? What kind of a father is he!?

Btw I handed the sword in and got the shield wink.gif

I haven't gotten the shield yet, I usually just leave the quest running and keep the sword - still, I could do that and then after level 30 or so go get that shield. Haven't played it out in a long time, since I got the PC game all I do is play with mods, lol.
