Chorrol.com _ Skyrim cheats and hints _ The Skyrim Home and Garden Tour

Posted by: Grits Jun 5 2013, 02:38 PM

I don’t know about you folks, but I love house tours. Not the perfect mansion tours, but the ones where you get a peek at how other people actually live. Artist studio tours, urban chicken coop tours, and the old neighborhoods where people restore their own homes are my favorites. So that gave me an idea.

I like to spend time letting my characters arrange their living spaces. I don’t take pictures because they’re never “done,” and then when they die I wish I had more pictures to look at. So here we go!

Here’s a place where you can show off your characters’ homes. It can be a mod, some lair they took over, a pure vanilla purchased dwelling, wherever they’ve decided to live. Don’t be shy about posting snapshots of your TV, I want to see them. I’d also love to see exterior spaces and Hearthfire gardens. Who has a poisoner’s garden? Who loves their vegetable soup? Plus it would be fun to hear the hows and whys of their choices.

(I put this thread here in the spoilers section because I want the freedom to show and discuss unique or quest items.)

Thank you for sharing, and welcome to the tour! smile.gif

I’ll start off with a quick one since the game is deleted and I only took two pictures.

Allek and Marcurio’s Honeyside

Allek and Marcurio were not very domestic, but their home had two notable features.

One was the pre-patch http://imgur.com/ICIxBHG. Here is the one wearing Allek’s wedding attire, the Mythic Dawn robes. That room became the showplace for many of their less useful Daedric artifacts, but the weapon rack still looks pretty boring in this picture. That Dwemer rod ended up hanging on the plaque over their bed.

The other nice feature was http://imgur.com/sbmt9ej. Iona once lived at Honeyside as Allek’s Housecarl, but after the wedding she really got on his nerves. When Marcurio made some snappy remark to Allek while she was in the room loudly chewing (probably the outraged “I am a wizard” one), Allek decided she had to go. So he gave her to Boethiah. He told Marcurio that she was off visiting her mother. Then he turned her room into Marcurio’s study.

Sadly this is a really crap picture. I’ll tell you what you can’t see. Marcurio is sitting at his writing table. There is a basket with rolled parchment next to the endtable and a stack of books to his right. That endtable held his scrolls and extra potions. The big cupboard was full of alchemy supplies, and the dresser not in the picture was full of soul gems. Allek placed a silver bowl full of black soul gems on its surface. This was before we realized that dropping soul gems EMPTIES THEM, so he wasted a lot of bandit souls in the making of Marcurio’s Soul Bowl. But the point is he loved doing it.

Neat idea Grits!

Hera built a home in Riverwood (or that is, I built her a home in Riverwood...) She always liked the quiet atmosphere of the little village, so she retired there after winning the war.

How fun, peeking into some SkyRealEstate! No northern dwellings for me I'm afraid (brrrr), so I'll have to be content to just look. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Jun 6 2013, 01:31 AM

Oh hell yes. :0 I actually had this idea for a thread awhile back, but never implemented it. I'm glad you started it instead, Gritsy. I'll definitely be adding. Yeah, y'all gotta see Lucia and LHM's place, decorated with flowers and gems all over their bedrooms. Mycharonna's little shack looks rather ordinary up top, but once your are in the cellar, it's totally pimped-out with treasures.

biggrin.gif

For some reason, my internet device wouldn't open up your links, Grits, but i could see Hera's place just fine. Hera likes a simple layout, I can see. Spacious, and uncluttered. Ha! Wait'll you see my characters places! Somewhat the opposite. LHM is kind of a slob, matter of fact. But he (and Lucia, and Mjoll also) try their darndest.

I'll check your places out, Grits, once I am on a real comptuer.

Posted by: Grits Jun 6 2013, 02:56 AM

SubRosa I was hoping you’d share some of the homes you’ve created! smile.gif I love the way there are coins scattered on the table next to Hera. Like she emptied her pockets there. That map looks great! It’s nice to see that rather than an animal head on the wall.

Acadian, thanks for stopping by! A chilly tour is a good excuse for some mulled wine by the fire later. IPB Image

Renee, I’m looking forward to your additions! It’s fun to see how the characters I read about live.

I’m going to do a photo shoot tomorrow, probably Uthgerd’s house. Of course announcing my plan usually cues some emergency, so we’ll see what happens. tongue.gif

.

Uthgerd’s House: A Whiterun Rental

Welcome to http://imgur.com/BY1rMMF.

Uthgerd’s house can be “rented” by taking her as a follower (you have to hand her a beatdown first), getting her key, and putting the rent money in her inventory. Then you can dismiss her. She’ll go back to the Bannered Mare and never come into her house. The house lacks certain amenities like… pretty much everything. Jerric enjoys cooking next door and hoofing it across town to make potions. Darnand does not, but he needs to get out more anyway.

So, let’s go inside.

Just http://imgur.com/WLA8WEE you’ll find the alchemy ingredients storage and the kettle where Darnand stashes his staves. The guys keep a few things handy on top of the dresser. When they’re going out for the evening Jerric likes to pop a few slaughterfish eggs first as he tends to over-indulge (resist poison). Darnand is always chewing thistle stems. He gets cold.

To the http://imgur.com/6MR66DF is Jerric’s cleanup area. http://imgur.com/p1Y9Sda. He keeps http://imgur.com/OUC22iw, mostly for practice. You will not see Frostbiter or Kyne’s Fury tossed into the kettle. Note that he leaves his boots by the door. Jerric’s Ma taught him that.

http://imgur.com/fHHx3TSis another Jerric zone with more supplies for armor and weapon repair. There’s a basket full of books under there, too. Some might be alarmed by the casual placement of a Daedric artifact. Jerric has learned that if you don’t use them, you lose them. He’s hoping that will happen soon. There’s a good chance Darnand will hurt himself while he’s studying it. So Jerric uses it as a weight to lift while he’s thinking, which is surely not pleasing to Malacath.

The kitchen area is just a http://imgur.com/7hqQagE and storage area, including the critical http://imgur.com/nzyHLSj. Jerric cooks next door at Amren’s house. The guys eat out a lot. Mostly at the Mare.

My favorite feature is the http://imgur.com/GJE0ezE. It’s just so pretty. I have no idea why Jerric keeps dragging troll skulls home, but he does. That’s the only place where Darnand won’t trip over them. That’s Jerric’s chair.

To the right of the hearth is http://imgur.com/X8atyCC. Here’s a http://imgur.com/WCsGxtK. The skull was there when they rented the place, and it seemed disrespectful to move it. I’m pretty sure that’s Jerric’s piece of cheese.

The upstairs hall houses the weapon and armor storage. Jerric is pretty good about putting things away, but his http://imgur.com/JDN0BYz really don’t fit anywhere.

This http://imgur.com/5mBsDmH is stuck open. Jerric dropped a strange dagger in there, but otherwise it’s kind of a missed opportunity decorating-wise. Of course now Darnand has noticed it. I wonder what he’ll put there.

Darnand’s bedtime reading is on the http://imgur.com/vAXQfjv, and Jerric’s overnight empties are in the washstand.

We pretend that there are two of http://imgur.com/8fZENDf. The guys are close, but not that close. Jerric’s pet torchbug is a good night light.

Their house looks pretty much the same in Darnand’s game. The main difference is fewer troll skulls.

Help yourself to some mead and stay a while if you like. I hope you enjoyed the tour! smile.gif

Thanks for the fun tour of Jerric and Darnand's bachelor pad in Skyrim! There's certainly no doubt about which stuff belongs to which fellow. tongue.gif

Posted by: King Coin Jun 6 2013, 05:12 PM

I took several screens of the interior last night, but the weather outside wasn't very nice. Hopefully 'Aravi Manor' will make it up sometime tonight!

Posted by: SubRosa Jun 6 2013, 11:20 PM

Now that was an impressive episode of Skyrim Cribs! I love the cauldron filled with swords! I just about gave up trying to place loose items in my character's houses, given what a pain in the neck it can be. I generally do it all in the construction kit instead.

I took a look through my Skyrim pics folder, and sadly do not have much more on houses. I have on interior shot of Hrafn's house in Dawnstar. I also have a couple of exteriors of Le Chevalier D'Eon's version of Lakeview. But that is about all. I suppose I could fire those saves up and take more pics, but neither is really that interesting from the inside.

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Jun 7 2013, 11:46 PM

Nice pix, Gritsy. smile.gif And what a fun tour. I agree with SubRosa, I almost feel like this thread could be on HGN. Or MTV Cribs.

I still haven't got anything ready yet, but I will. Heh heh heh....Can't wait to show you Mycharonna's place!

I like your house, SubRosa! Was it difficult working with navmeshes? I used to make homes for all my Morrowind and Oblivion characters but I've been kind of intimidated by navmeshes and haven't yet made any houses in Skyrim.

I just barely got the hang of pathgrids and they go and change it. Sheesh. smile.gif

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 8 2013, 08:36 PM

I'll post mine in a bit. Kayla hasn't made her house into a home quite yet. :]

I have not the first clue how to add navmeshes. I just leave them out of the houses I make. Since I do not use followers, it does not really matter. My character is the only one ever inside them.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 9 2013, 12:12 AM

I believe there is a button that auto-generates the nav meshes and from what I have heard, it does a pretty good job.

Here is Aravi’s home, or what some people have nicknamed ‘Aravi Manor’.

http://i.imgur.com/A1ggmB9.jpg It was planted with beauty over functionality in mind, which is why there are only flowers present.

http://i.imgur.com/kdBWq8e.jpg, where the dining table and the fireplace are. This seems to be Kharjo’s favorite room, he is most often found in here or in the small room behind the fireplace. Aravi has placed some of the things she has found in her travels in this room, and she also has some pelts on the floor by the fireplace. They are nice to stand or sit on.

The next room is her http://i.imgur.com/kiyOYyC.jpg. This contains mostly plants she uses for poisons and regenerate health effects. There are some potato and leek plants as well for cooking. This will probably get replanted in the near future, because she’s added a lot to her knowledge of alchemy.

http://i.imgur.com/BUW8G1P.jpg Included mostly for Darnand. She has some spell tomes among the other books. They are either in schools of magic that she doesn’t use, or they are above her capability.

http://i.imgur.com/xW0bHkp.jpg There is a small bowl of glowdust on the end table closest to the camera. The dragon claw WAS sitting pretty, but as soon as I reloaded it came up like that. On the chest at the foot of the bed, there is a sprig each of frost mirriam, snow berries, and lavender.

She spends a lot of time when she’s home in this room:http://i.imgur.com/QQ86C5n.jpg. She keeps all of her ingredients in this room, along with some enchanted items to make her potions more potent.

http://i.imgur.com/E04JkVc.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ydhH7n6.jpg One of those bowls has a piece of cheese. Aravi often finds the cheese somewhere on the floor when she comes down.

http://i.imgur.com/TqR5pS3.jpg This is above the alchemy lab.

KC, loved the tour of Aravi's home! She looks chilly outside in that loin kini! biggrin.gif

Her bedroom is awesome!

Posted by: Grits Jun 9 2013, 08:46 PM

Yay, Aravi Manor! Now J&D are going to have to put a lid on the Library Towers. I forgot she has one covered.

The flowers in the garden must make the mead taste better (via the apiary). tongue.gif I like how the workbench looks in the main hall dining area. What a cute picture with Sammy!

Aravi’s library looks great! I know a mage who will be right over. And that’s perfect porch weather. Almost time to break out the mead and start hurling fireballs.

Thanks for the tour, KC! And thanks to Aravi for the scenic outfit! biggrin.gif

My Dunmer Lleduri Indaram has dragged a few things home from Solstheim for her Windstad Manor. I’ll take some pictures after her next trip. Right now she just has some mazte and a giant cricket leg on the table. She sure doesn’t have much furniture.

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Jun 18 2013, 05:34 PM

Wow I love the greenhouse and the pic of Aravi up on the tower, KC. ... LHM has yet to build a tower, but after seeing that spectacular view ... a tower is definitely on the list.

I got a bunch of pictures together for Mycharonna, good lord it is a lot of work getting them organized with just a cell camera, emails and Photobucket. I don't wanna present her lair just yet, though.

Posted by: Grits Nov 20 2013, 08:49 PM

First let me make it clear that this is NOT my work, it’s two mods by the amazingly talented Shezrie. I fell instantly in love with her Hearthfire kitchen and was crushed (really, I was sad!) to find it gone without a trace when I finally had the game on my laptop.

But now! They’re back on Steam workshop, or whatever it’s called. So here are a couple of pics from the back rooms of my crew’s Hearthfire house, interiors by Shezrie. I was so delighted to find these, I wanted to let folks know they are available. You build the main hall and don’t furnish the back room for the kitchen mod. The greenhouse mod goes into the empty storage room wing. I built mine with bedroom/storage/armory wings to get the wraparound porch. Now I just need a huge library with desks mod to go in the empty armory space. hehe.gif

http://i.imgur.com/83VoorZ.png.

http://i.imgur.com/mlLP7fF.png.

http://i.imgur.com/M6lg8fl.png.

http://i.imgur.com/tHvxwvu.png. Those are Abiene's plants. The planters work just like the regular ones.

Posted by: SubRosa Nov 20 2013, 09:22 PM

I love Shezries Kitchens. I never build a house without them.

I see Abiene made her greenhouse without the two really big planters that go down the middle of the room. I like it better how she has it. It is more roomy. Now D'Eon is going to regret putting the enchanters tower over there.

Posted by: Grits Nov 20 2013, 09:27 PM

That greenhouse is a Shezrie mod, too! It goes into the storage room wing space at the very back of the house. I built the bedroom wing because we have a veritable army living there and we need the beds. With Shezrie’s greenhouse mod you can have bedrooms or enchanting tower on that side and still have a greenhouse. smile.gif

Oh wow, that is very cool. I'll have to go find that one. I never had much use for the storage room.

I don't have any neat home pictures to share. However, I do have a question about changing home furnishings. This seemed an appropriate thread to ask it in. I want to change the bed that comes with Breezehome. The rest of the furnishings are sufficient, but that bed is horrific. The Bannered Mare has better beds than a Thane's house? Really? blink.gif

So, I assume that the bed switch can be accomplished with the console (PC version here). All I need is the correct code. If someone could supply me with that, I would be very appreciative. biggrin.gif

Posted by: SubRosa Jan 12 2014, 06:38 PM

I don't think you can change furniture through the console. I know you can remove things, but I don't know of any commands to add objects other than actors. I suggest just using the creation kit.

Posted by: Grits Jan 12 2014, 06:59 PM

Here are some console commands to get you started: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/477049-renovate-your-house-with-console/. There’s a video link in the first post that might help, but the Form ID list link did not work when I tried it. There’s a code for a Noble Bed in the first post, too.

I have not tried this yet. I wonder if it would be better to disable the bed that is there rather than delete it. I’m guessing it will take several tries to get the new bed to land where you want it.

I'm curious how this works out. Sometimes I just want to change one thing in one character's game, and using the console might do the trick.

Solved the problem with a mod from the Nexus. It is called http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15316/.

http://i.imgur.com/44SFwDr.jpg

After watching the videos connected to that link, I couldn't see myself going through the trial and error placing of the bed. Thanks for the help though. And if anyone does try that console stuff, I would be interested to hear how difficult it was.

Marius has been buying property for the Thieves Guild and of course he has his somewhat damp bed in the Ragged Flagon Cistern, but there’s a hideaway in Riften that he thinks of as home. Princess Stomper’s http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16796/. He hasn’t done much decorating but here’s a picture of Marius http://i.imgur.com/q9Ndmeg.png with Rune and companion Arissa. (And Marius’s pet rabbit. Lol.)

Posted by: Acadian Aug 19 2014, 05:46 PM

Wow, that place looks purrrfect for a thief! Simply love the black bunny - how appropriate! Has Marius taught the bunny to pickpocket, swipe keys and other ferret-like things that could be helpful?

I'll have to see if maybe I can get a picture of Buffy's home (the tent that she keeps in Superian's saddlebags). embarrased.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 19 2014, 07:12 PM

Whoa I love how gloomy those pics are. If only.

I actually have several pics of Mycharonna's cabin, should add them later on

Posted by: Grits Aug 19 2014, 09:27 PM

I’d love to see Mycharonna’s cabin! That spot holds fond memories. smile.gif

Acadian, how funny! That bunny is a true pet. He follows but does not fight at all. I got him for Lildereth to bring home for Gralnach since the Hearthfire pet system is not predictable, but since Lil is in Cyrodiil Marius got the first crack at the bunny. The bunny’s appearance is customizable, and of course Marius wanted a black one named Shadow. (Marius is not a creative namer. Luckily his weapons are already named, otherwise he would carry The Bow of Shooting and The Dagger of Stabs I and II.) Shadow is from the mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49339/. The little guy is completely passive but still occasionally http://i.imgur.com/o7XQlIh.png. ohmy.gif I can imagine that he will be an asset when Marius gets the Perfect Touch for Pickpocketing. Bend down to pet cute little bunny, stand up naked. tongue.gif

I love camp pictures. They give great insight into the between-adventure lives of our characters. smile.gif

Okay, here are some pictures, finally. Unfortunately they're all Photobucket. Can't get them on Imgur. Anyway, viking.gif I found one of Lord Haaf-Mersey's religious room, where he's got all his Nine idols lined up in a row.

http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/20ad8c71-6d31-43fc-8b40-18f0b69d9ba4_zps1570f245.jpg

Notice there's gemstones all over the floor, Lol. We can build a shrine to the Nine in the basement of the Proudspire Manor, which is basically Haaf-Mersey's mancave, so he's not particularly keen on housekeeping down here. It's pretty messy.

------------------

Now for some Mycharonna pics. ph34r.gif I took these in a series of shots, so she walks inside of Anise's Cabin, and then we get to see the den area.

http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/35e3a263-10e5-4680-8958-03f188df12fe_zps80c107c7.jpg

Note: the drawers on her left don't respawn, so I RP that she stores a bunch of useless items and cheap clothes, but underneath this clutter is her fortune. Tens of thousands of gold, as well as magic items of all sorts (that she has no use for), her Dark Brotherhood clothing, etc.

http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/a6df50cb-f8cb-4109-a0f5-09fb454a2085_zps14b1cd9c.jpg.

http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/6418366d-3934-4e27-bc44-3ce8bb6fa7b0_zps6ff9656a.jpg

And that is all. Mych wants us to buzz off now. indifferent.gif I think her place is more cluttered now, especially the den area. I know she's brought back a couple Butterflies in a Jar, as well as dozens more gemstones and whatnot. So I'll have to get a more recent set of shots. Those were taken last winter, I think.

Posted by: Grits Aug 22 2014, 01:37 PM

How funny that LHM keeps his man-cave messy. Is that a canticle bark draw knife I see?

Mycharonna looks perfectly at home in her rustic cabin with piles of treasure secretly stored away. I love the downstairs counter with books and gems strewn over it.

Thank you for sharing these! smile.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 22 2014, 09:03 PM

Correct about the knife. smile.gif I do remember him tossing it aside once he was done with it like it was just clutter.

You're welcome. smile.gif I meant to post these long ago, never got around to it.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 22 2014, 09:30 PM

So that is what it looks like with all nine shrines! I have never had a character who managed to build them all. Some of those ingredients can be hard to find.

Mycharonna needs to sweep up that ash outside of her house! laugh.gif Very neat to see her messy basement. She should hire a maid, but Mycharrona would probably feed on her!

Aard "lives" in Hjerim, in fact he moved in after killing the Butcher and not being appropriately rewarded for his service to the community so he decided not to return the key to the manor. He doesn't spend much time there and mostly uses it for sleeping but for him it's the closest to what counts as home in Skyrim.

Hjerim is mostly unfurnished but Aard brought some furniture from the Aretino's Residence and from the House of Curiosities. Let's have a look at his cold home:

This is the http://shrani.najdi.si/?3n/Xa/wHdw4Pb/1-entry.jpg which is completely unfurnished except the candlestick which he brought from the Aretino Residence so he can see where the lock on the door is.

This is what counts as the http://shrani.najdi.si/?t/xs/3wClYb2c/2-kitchen.jpg in Aard's Hjerim. He brought his favorite chair from the Aretino Residence while the table, the dining chair and the cooking pot are from the Butcher's house. He hasn't used the cooking pot yet and the goat leg has been lying there for days. Aard mostly uses the kitchen to warm himself because it's the warmest room in Hjerim, you can see him sitting in his favorite chair.

This is once again the http://shrani.najdi.si/?1v/ZJ/1oGO6cvx/3-entry-2.jpg from the other perspective, except the lantern which he brought from the Butcher's house, there isn't anything of interest. This http://shrani.najdi.si/?1O/2/1HEqk0X2/4-altar.jpg served as the Butcher's sacrificial room but Aard managed to clean it of bones and blood. He doesn't use the room but he prefers it without bodily remains.

Moving upstairs we come to another long http://shrani.najdi.si/?1T/13i/3udc1AW7/5-upstairs.jpg, unfurnished except the lantern. The http://shrani.najdi.si/?1n/3C/DkQ5NmB/6-bedroom-1.jpg on the left is the most furnished place in Hjerim, because most items have already been there when he moved in. There is the Aretino family heirloom on the floor, while on the table you can see the semi-rare fur helmet, another lantern and the flagon. The note on the floor is the "We know" message from Astrid while the chest next to the bed is empty except for the key to the White Phial. The http://shrani.najdi.si/?3f/p7/2eCC2BI7/7-bedroom-2.jpg shows the small wardrobe with merchant's clothes on it which were never worn, at least not by Aard. Next to the clothes are some flowers which Aard bought from Sophie but they're not seen clearly in the pic.

EDIT: Taking items and bringing them to Hjerim was achieved by Jaxonz Positioner Mod which allows you to take even statics with you.

Ooo, Aard’s Hjerim suits him perfectly! What a great idea for him to just move in there. I love it! How did you get the blood and parts cleaned up in the secret room? It looks so echo-y and dark, but with the sweet touch of Sophie’s flowers. My character Jensa lives in Hjerim with her family, her Housecarl, and two dogs, so it’s neat to see it looking so different. Thank you for sharing Aard’s northern quarters with us!

Lopov - Grits is right that Aard's house suits him well - dark, harsh and cool just like the city of Windhelm itself. Great setup for him!

Dark, empty, and cold. Just like Aard's heart! laugh.gif ohmy.gif

With Jasonx Positioner. Selecting every bone and body part in the console was too difficult and tedious but Jasonx's mod allows you to take statics with you so I picked up every part that needed to be cleaned then put them in a sack and clicked "markfordelete" on the sack.

There are some bloodstains in the entry hall which couldn't be deleted, though. I tried disabling and enabling the floor and although stains were gone at first, they reappeared upon reloading. Aard got used to them, though.

I have a special device which I bought awhile ago, which allows me to take screenies or videos of console games. Finally got it set up last week, so I can finally show folks Lord Haaf-Mersey's home: Lakeview Manor, added by the Hearthfire DLC.

Therefore she is unfit to have as a follower. Which is okay because the lord already has several followers he can pick from).

Final note: There are containers ALL OVER Lakeview. One would ask for nothing less, since Hearthfire was an official paid DLC. Haaf-Mersey keeps some money / treasure in a couple safes upstairs, but the motherload of his gold is in https://i.imgur.com/3D440j2.jpg. Over 20,000 gp in there, which (I suppose) any thieves would be wont to ever search.

Wow, that looks great, Renee! smile.gif

Thanks for allowing us to take a few peaks inside LHM's manor.

Nicely decorated, especially with all jewels / flowers scattered around, it has a more home-like feel if not everything is in perfect order.
