Chorrol.com _ Skyrim _ What are you wearing? What are you wielding?

Posted by: Vital Feb 24 2014, 12:37 AM

Because the Oblivion has gone well so far, here's one for those of us who travel north of the border. Here you can post all the arms and armour your skyrim characters make use of.

To start:

Ravos from Skyrim, despite being level 40, can usually be found wearing improved fur armor (the variant that cover the most flesh) enchanted to increase health, leather boots and bracers, the bracers are enchanted to increase one-handed damage, he wears a plain hood that he enchanted to increase bow damage, he has a necklace that also increases one-handed damage and a ring that increases stamina. He also has a suit of legendary glass armor for occasional use. He uses a legendary glass bow of frost damage and dual-wields two legendary glass swords, one does lightning and one does fire damage. He keeps two steel daggers of soul trapping handy aswell.

Excellent idea for a thread!

Aravi, my Khajiit, wears different things based on the temperature and how likely she is to get into trouble.

Similar to Ravos, my Khajiit carries fur armor, the type that fully covers the body. She wears it, fur bracers, and some fluffy (modded) leg wraps whenever she is somewhere with snow. Aravi dislikes having her fingers or toes covered, so even in the harsh north she is somewhat barefoot. Her fur armor is enchanted with resist frost.

Down south around Riften, she usually wears considerably less. The Forsworn outfit is similar to what she wears there.

The rest of the time (and when she expects trouble) she prefers a set of Elven armor.

The weapons and jewelry she wears changes pretty often, but she always has 2 sets of golden earrings that are enchanted to reduce the cost of restoration magic by 5%.

Time for the Skyrim Fashion Show! biggrin.gif

http://i.imgur.com/WFWWfjt.jpg started out wearing a mail hauberk from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21721. She wears a Spangenhelm I made with some help from the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4866. Her shield is one from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20217. Finally she wears the vanilla Fur Boots and Fur Gauntlets that the Stormcloaks and guards do. Her weapons are the Atmoran Sword from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12506, and her bow is the Nord Bow from the same mod.

Later on Hervor joined the Dawnguard, and suited up in the http://i.imgur.com/R3CnCSG.jpg. She kept her Spangenhelm though, and her Atmoran Sword and Nord Bow.

Persephone went through several gear phases. When she was alive and named Kore, she wore http://i.imgur.com/PjpSZ5j.jpg. Though of course at that time (Alessia's reign), they were brand new. When she rose from the dead as Persephone, she kept the armor, but now summoned up a http://i.imgur.com/Q9zA8B6.jpg.

As she began to act more like the living, and remember more of what it once felt like to be alive, she put aside her tombwear and http://i.imgur.com/DFQXeHw.jpg. She moved to a http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11050, along with a hood from Ezio's Assassin's Creed Armor (sorry, cannot find a link), and finally a cape from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12864, which I recolored to be grey. She also stopped using her ghost sword Malediction, and instead replaced it with a standard steel greatsword.

Some folks might be thinking fur armor but really you can Smith the Oblivion out of cheaper armors. I was surprised when Lord Haaf-Mersey was active that he could improve iron and steel quite a bit, and really his perks were only up about half way.

Love dem pics, SR

One of the things I like about Skyrim is just what you said. Between smithing and the Light/Heavy Armor perks, it allows a character to wear steel or iron all the way through the game without it crippling them at the higher levels. My character Le Chevalier D'Eon's Eisen Platte has the same stats as Elven, one of the lower rank armors, and she still eventually hit the Armor Cap wearing it.

Posted by: Grits Feb 24 2014, 05:08 PM

I like the flexibility with perks and worn enchantments, too. If a character isn’t going to practice Smithing they can improve their skill in the weapon or armor to help them be more Fearsome even with the lower tier equipment. Most of my characters go that route.

Lildereth is an archer from Cyrodiil (Oblivion). In Skyrim she wears more of a variety. The http://i.imgur.com/EPWe8mf.png with the green cape Abiene made for her is a favorite, but she’s also often in her http://i.imgur.com/oPRsLod.png armor or lately the Hunter armor from Immersive Armors. She wears the http://i.imgur.com/C89IpB6.png with a fur hood and mantle in the snow. She tried a fur cloak, but the darn thing was huge and probably weighed more than she did. Her necklace from Jerric looks a little different in Skyrim, but it still has claws and such on it and carries a warming charm (Resist Frost).

In Skyrim I made Shimai for her from the hunting bow. It has unimproved Elven stats and a firing speed of 1.0. She uses poison and perks for most of her damage. Shooting quickly with a weaker bow suits her very well.

SubRosa and Grits, thanks for the screenshots. Skyrim certainly has some neat looking outfits, between vanilla and mods. happy.gif

Well, all my female characters are Bear Riders, and don't wear much at all, because the bears prefer it that way. biggrin.gif Bear Riders also prefer two-handed weapons so they get a chance to swing them without dismounting. Outfits are custom, weapons are vanilla. Fleur (Battle-axes) wears a scrap of leather that still hits the Armour cap. Pala (Greatswords) prefers Eleven, Thulia (Dawnbreaker and shield) wears Deadric.

Galen Vhoth, my Dunmer assassin, wore the DB Ancient set, and wielded the Blade of Woe with a similarly enchanted one-hand sword in the other hand. He'd advanced Sneak to get the 15x multiplier for daggers, and so that was his preferred offence. He's the test character for the Elf Kids, so his equipment is all standard stuff.

Ra'Vish, the Khajiit Arch-Mage, naturally wore the robes once he had the post. Before that, various lesser robes. He didn't carry any weapons, only spells (and potions, especially restore magicka!) His female companions get to make all the fashion statements, and he hands over any weapons they'll use, and sells the rest.

Gol gro-Molag, the latest, is staunchly Orcish, and will just upgrade his Orcish armor, now that he can do so. He's not so fussy about his weapons, as long as they're both one-handed axes. He likes the look of the Dawnguard ones, but is currently using steel ones that he's tempered, but not yet enchanted. He may add a soul-trap on one hand, and absorb health on the other soon, to see how that works out. Gol is the character who will build an Orcish Longhouse if my Hearthfire mod gets made. He's towing Borghak the Steel-Heart around, and trying to get her interested in something a bit more revealing than Steel Armour, but he doesn't yet have the Smithing skill to make anything she prefers.

Wow guys, some amazing characters here!

KC, hearing about Aravi sent me straight to her fan art thread. Don't Skyrim khajiit look awesome?

SR, once again I think all your characters look great. Hervor's spangenheim looks similar but much better than that shocking dawnguard helmet (not the closed one). Persephone's plate armor is so cool and I love the idea of playing an undead character!

I agree about the gear, except for the odd occasion Ravos never needs anything better than his furs. It's the same with a few of my higher-level characters. Even without the perks and bringing them up to the armor cap, Ravos gives out so much damage and his potions and restoration magic is so powerful, with glass armor it becomes too easy.

Grits, Lildereth's gear is so fitting for a bosmer. The things Ravos would do for a set of modded armor like that falkreath ranger set...

Ghastley, I think I've seen a few pics of that bear rider armor somewhere. Such a cool idea! Don't think you'd want to get on Galen's bad side and Ra'Vish is keeping it simple in the robes like any mage would. An orcish longhouse for hearthfire would be awesome.

Hello everybody, good afternoon. Today's fashion moment is...

Mycharonna the Ice Witch emot-ninja1.gif

http://s936.photobucket.com/user/xenaclone/media/0919e217-26f1-44f3-b883-380c5704e636_zps6dcaf791.jpg.html

WEARING
Hooded Necromancer Robes (Magicka Regen + 75%)

Peasant's Clothing (see Explanation below)

Hide Boots of Dwindling Flames (Fire Resist +40%)

Shrouded Gloves (double-damage back stab)

Jewelry: Necklace of Remedy (+20% Health Regen),
............ Ring of Replenishing (+60% Magicka Regen)

WIELDING:
Iron Dagger of Fright (Creatures & NPCs up to L15 flee for 30 secs.)
Orcish Daggar of Soul Trap
Orcish Daggar of Frost (+24 pts cold damage)
Staff of Fireballs
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Explanation: Amongst her many talents, Mycharonna can shape-shift. She's been doing it since she was a young child, and long before becoming a vampire. One of her fave tricks is to shape shift from her foul-smelling necro-robes to one of her peasant outfits, which are several plain Skyrim dresses, usually with small magical bonuses. She transfers from one outfit to the next instantly with one of the Xbox's voice commands. Since I don't have to go into the menu to change her clothes, it makes it seem like she is indeed casting an illusionary shape-shifting spell.

Whenever she goes into a civilized area, she shape-shifts from robes to clothes. She can only do this from Stages 1 thru 3 though. Once she's S4, the evil within becomes too great, and everybody sees her for what she is.

Mycharonna also has a circlet, ring, amulet, and bracers, all which boost her Alchemy skill. ph34r.gif

So far as weapons go, she mostly uses the three daggars mentioned above, she rarely uses the Staff of Fireballs. Since she mostly uses frost magics, that staff is just there for variety.

Attia left Helgen in light imperial armour, but decided something less controversial was appropriate for travel, considering she's currently not in the legion. She's not that fond of the Nordic style of armour and couldn't do hide or studded armour, luckily she found leather to be more to her liking and is wearing a set of that (except the helmet). She weilds a steel sword and an iron banded shield, relying more on her shield and then counter attacking with her sword.

Cool thing I've found is in the attempt to replicate roman combat techniques: crouching while in melee combat, with a sword and board character, holding the shield up and waiting for the opponent to open up before you strike. sort of replicates the roman combat when using the sword instead of spear...

Interesting. I think i know what you are describing.

Eilidh managed to grab a set of studded armour from an obligingly deceased bandit after having escaped from Helgen with only some cobbled together stuff.
The rest is Imperial cast-offs.

She has a decent cloak and hood, again courtesy of the local colour although until arriving at Bleakfalls she had a fairly inadequate burlap one.

She remains continually irritated that her own armour, a decent set of Elven, was confiscated along with her weapons upon her incarceration in Helgen.

Speaking of weapons, having been initially forced by circumstance to use a sword, she has managed to acquire a steel warhammer and a bow of ancient origin. Much more to her liking...

Lycus travels quite a bit. He uses his steel-plate armor and steel-plate gears. But when he's out about in hunting season he uses his forsworn armor. Or the armor of the Old Gods. He doesn't stand with the Forsworn's political ideals, but he does worship their same gods. Or should I say "god". At least the ones from the Second Era.

The Forsworn's armor doesn't provide much protection, but Lycus makes up for it when he's armed to the teeth with daggers and swords. He's much faster than he looks, so he uses the speed and ferocity of his attacks to prevent foes from getting him.

In cities and towns, and sometimes even when he's strolling out in the wilderness, Lycus wears mundane clothes like ragged trousers on those special nights of his escapades. He'll put his trousers with a piece of goat leg, or roast venison nearby so he can follow the scent and remain in the area when he's in his true and bestial form. Instead of sneaking into a village early in the morning to steal clothes, he'll pack his own trousers and roughspun tunic.

Despite his size, imposing physique and scary/ugly facial features, he has a remarkable talent for blending in just by wearing these clothes. People won't look twice for a tall Imperial who hasn't shaved in ages walking about in peasant's clothing. Gives him the look of an honest laborer who cuts woods and plants for a living.

Posted by: Vital Apr 19 2014, 10:25 AM

Lycus sounds fun smile.gif

Most people in skyrim look massive, ugly, dirty and whatnot, so I'm sure it's not the hardest place for a werewolf to fit in. The locals don't exactly seem to be savvy when it comes to recognising werewolves, surely someone has heard the howling and seen the hair on the companions and made the connection laugh.gif

Indeed.
Eilidh "on duty" - Steel plate armour, skins.
Eilidh "on duty" - Fairly revealing, pretty much down-at-heel clothing. It blends in and well, advertises at the same time...
Normally in Imperial areas she'll always have her head covered as well, unless she's "on duty"... ahem...

Posted by: Vital Apr 24 2014, 01:59 PM

In towns Ravos generally wears his furs if it's cold or if he's trying to look the part. Otherwise he'll wear any lower class/simple looking clothes or the belted tunic. If he's meeting with a Jarl or other important figure he will either wear his good armour (glass at the moment) or fine clothes.

He might wear some kind of robes if he's doing things such as alchemy or enchanting, and of course he always his blacksmiths aprons when smithing tongue.gif

Oh and of course he has a wide array of jewelry to aid him in all these things. A circlet for alchemy, rings for smithing an amulet for trading. Otherwise he wears his bond of matrimony and amulet of Kynareth.

OOooh, just out of curiosity I loaded my Super-Khajiit Tank character J'zirlo...("Brother" of J'zargo)...My God he's awesome!!... laugh.gif ...

Currently his armour and weapons are all Stahlrim...Armour is in a heavy stylee...Weapons are bow and longsword...Coupled with the shield...'m muchly happy with it...

They do 126 and 123 damage respectively...And his armour rating is 1136... happy.gif ...

He's Level 66, and my playtime is 222 hours, 26 mins...

It's fair to say, I miss the big-guy...I may have to drag him out of retirement for a time... biggrin.gif ...Must have a notebook to make sure I stick to a roundabout wander plan...

In Oblivion all of my characters had separate town outfits to wear. But in Skyrim the fancy clothes don't do anything for me, and the ordinary clothing looks too drab for most of my characters. So they often don't change outfits when in town. There are a few exceptions though.

http://i.imgur.com/BLfMfQx.jpg town clothes were the non-hooded, blue Dunmer clothes.

http://i.imgur.com/HCUmbhw.jpg wore a modded set of robes and sandals.

http://i.imgur.com/r8bU87T.jpg wore the Triss Outfit in town.

Posted by: Acadian Jul 2 2014, 01:22 AM

Buffy's wearing the Triss outfit. I've loved the outfit since I first saw it in Oblivion. The problem there was that it was cut very much for a woman of more . . . Nordic proportions than Buffy. Happily, the Skyrim version fits her perfectly!

And she's wielding a conjured Mystic bow (and spells of course).

Posted by: haute ecole rider Aug 4 2014, 12:18 AM

Like SubRosa's, my main (and only, thus far) Skyrim character has stuck pretty much to her Elven outfit.

Of course, she hasn't yet headed north beyond the snow line, so her set of fur gear are still packed away. She is looking for moonstone ore so she can upgrade her Elven set, and we'll RP that it gets the same exposure stats as the upgraded Fur (Full exposure protection).

She is currently carrying an Orcish mace and an Orcish bow. She is definitely a mace girl. On the vanilla playthrough I got her to try out the swords and greatswords (I'm more familiar with those thanks to Julian in OB). However, on this go-around, with the mods I'm using, she is insisting on using the mace. The bow comes in handy for sniping when she wants to thin the numbers some and she's on high ground. At this time she has over 200 steel arrows and almost 40 Orcish. All unenchanted equipment.

She is using a fur cloak that she did enchant with a Resist Frost enchantment. It helps on those cold nights!

Posted by: Acadian Aug 4 2014, 12:28 AM

Rider, great to see you in Skyrim. Elven armor (with furs available), mace and bow sound great. Is she using a shield?

Buffy still loves her Triss outfits. Being the magical elf she is, she can (alteration magicks) change it from among three color variations. She did find herself a bit underdressed for the snow however. Rather than carrying mantled mage robes and/or furs however, she opted to get a nice cape and cowl that pretty well matches the Triss outfit. That and a couple more rings enchanted with resist frost (to complement the toe ring Jerric gave her) and she actually has the cold thing under control. Oh, and she's taken to wearing a couple of hawk feathers in her hair. Dunno why.

Umm, no. Alise prefers to keep some kind of magicka handy in her left hand. She did try dual-wielding in the vanilla playthrough, but went back to keeping either destruction or conjuration spells handy. She also keeps healing spells hotkeyed so she can heal herself or her followers as necessary.

Welcome back HER. smile.gif Nice to see lots of us in Skyrim these days.

Posted by: Grits Aug 19 2014, 04:10 PM

http://i.imgur.com/mljfmii.png wears a combination of armor based on looks and enchantments. He does no smithing or enchanting so he has to work with what he finds or earns. When he’s about to possibly get into real trouble he wears the Guildmaster’s Armor, Nightingale Boots, Nightingale Gauntlets, Linwe’s Hood (because it looks better than the Shrouded Hood which has an addition +5 to archery), and a black hide cloak he found that increases his Magicka Resistance.

The Nightingale Bow is still his favorite. He buys potions to make the enchantments more effective. Slowing his target is very important to him.

In melee he likes two shock-enchanted daggers, Elven and Glass. His defense is pretty poor so he needs to get the fight over with as soon as possible. When he’s up against a two-handed fighter he breaks out the Nightingale Blade for the extra reach and health absorption. He carries Chillrend but he’s rarely sure that his opponent lacks frost resistance. It’s mostly to ease his fear of getting cornered by a fire dragon. Plus he thinks it looks cool. And if he leaves it at home someone might steal it. whistling.gif

http://i.imgur.com/JPPIsUY.png is still his favorite outfit for around town. He likes to look colorful but not too fancy.

Aww, Marius is so roguishly handsome. I sure hope Jerric doesn't rearrange his face when Marius tries to steal Jerric's amulet! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 19 2014, 07:02 PM

I agree. Whatalookah he is. That first pic is like a Mycharonna pic. Nice and dark.

What sort of damage do his shock daggars do?

Posted by: Grits Aug 19 2014, 09:36 PM

Aww, thanks guys. Luckily NPC Jerric is parked in the Dragonsreach dungeon room that has all of the mead barrels, so Marius could probably braid his back hair without him noticing. Marius wore a mask for the job, though, just in case! laugh.gif

Marius’s Elven Dagger of Lightning does an extra 25 points of shock damage and his Glass Dagger of Thunderbolts does an extra 20 of shock. They are both unimproved but Marius has a couple of perks in Armsman. I play him on Expert so he has a bit of trouble when he has to get up close with the fighting.

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 20 2014, 02:51 AM

Nice! Mych has three daggars she usually carries, although she never dual-wields. One simply harvests souls. That one is orcish. She's got another orcish daggar that does something like 24 pts of frost damage (she is an ice witch, after all), and the third daggar is iron. It causes anybody up to a certain level (I think it's 20 or 25) to flee.

Expert eh? huh.gif

Posted by: Grits Aug 20 2014, 04:10 AM

Yep, I don’t want him to feel too powerful and warrior-like. When he sees those roaming bandits with their heavily armored chiefs he just sneaks on by. He carries a selection of poisons in case he gets cornered, but on Expert he is motivated to still act like a rogue. He has to choose fights he can end quickly. On Adept it’s too tempting to turn into a warrior and carve through a bunch of guys.

Oh, and he did pull Chillrend out today in Stony Creek Cave. biggrin.gif He was out of poison from http://i.imgur.com/fib5lKl.png that occurred on the way there. Even with Rune (I made him into a follower)and Arissa (mod) with him they were getting their asses kicked, so he gambled on the chance of paralysis effect. It worked. I love that sword!

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 20 2014, 02:42 PM

Ah I see. Since Haaf-Mersey I've gotten in the habit of starting my characters on Apprentice, but then bumping the difficulty up to Adept if they start becoming Ubers at higher levels. I think Mych still has Apprentice going, I mean we're talking a dead-is-dead game in which two or three super-fireballs could kill her. I eventually bumped Haaf-Mersey's game up to Adept though. Started getting bored when he'd simply mow through vampires or bandits like bowling pins.

I think Master Baytor's game (if I ever return to it) started on Adept. I went for the classic default Xbox experience there. smile.gif

Crazy pic. I am counting 3 dragons in total?

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 20 2014, 04:30 PM

Doesn't the Sky version of Chillrend also paralyze people for 10 seconds per hit? I thought it was so overpowered just from that I never used it.

Wow, that's a really bad day to work at Windhelm's stables! I after the fight the first guard said: "My brother's out fighting dragons, and I get stuck out here in the sticks with this crazy old woman."

Posted by: Grits Aug 20 2014, 11:58 PM

Two dragons. Two was enough! laugh.gif The Khajiit caravan was there, too, so it was quite an event. Marius took a position on the hillside and shot over the mosh pit when they landed.

I like enemies to hit hard, but I would never play a character that uses Destruction for their primary damage on anything higher than Adept. (The Zanimal also conjures and uses his enchanted greatsword.) I sometimes forget to turn it back down for Darnand, and his first completely ineffective dual-cast fireball always lets me know something is very wrong!

Sky Chillrend has a chance to paralyze for 2 seconds, which the way Marius fights works out to maybe once per dungeon. The version that Marius got (it’s leveled) does 15 frost damage. Its base damage is 2 points higher than his Nightingale Blade. At this point he’s finding better blades, but Chillrend really does look… er, cool. Lol.

Posted by: Acadian Aug 21 2014, 12:55 AM

Renee, don't feel badly. I thought perhaps I saw a third dragon in the distance as well. But Grits is right - two is enough!

I quite dislike the 'chance' to do 'X' type of enchantments. Buffy's pretty frail and she needs to KNOW what she's gonna get. Lol.

I'm very happy and surprised with Buffy's wardrobe, seeing as she was a real clothes horse in OB. Her full mage robes, leathers, furs, scaled are all in her bag of holding gathering dust. She sleeps in an unhooded monks robe and 'taverns' in a vanilla blue dress. Her 'Venturewear is three colors of Triss armor and three hoods we just made (brown, green, white). The hoods are taken from the long mage/monk robes and include that scarf/shawl thing that drapes down the back like a mini cape. Alise loves those mantles! She uses one all the time with her Resist Frost enchanted wolfskin cloak she picked up off of an unlucky bandit. It's great for the northern climes.

She's experimenting with several types of light armor ATM and right now is wearing Elven Rogue Armor by NanaBeats. It's no longer up on the Nexus forums, so I'm not sure what happened. But I like it much better than the standard Elven armor, which seems like too much metal for my character. Alise also likes that it's a dark color, rather than the golden color which always seemed too garish for her.

What Alise likes doing more is smithing up various heavy armors for her housecarls. Rayya has a set of Imperial Legion armors from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6085/. Argis and Lydia are presently sporting heavy armors from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19733/ I have to say that the Akaviri Samurai armor Lydia is using looks awesome on her.

Oh, now I see the fluff/shadow that looks like a distant dragon! Oops. Sorry about that, folks! I’m just glad my snow fluffs don’t look like dandelion seeds anymore. laugh.gif

I’m with you and Buffy, Acadian. I prefer the certainty of paralysis poison if the target really must drop. Marius is my problem child, though. Lol. What a great idea to make hooded shoulder-wraps for Buffy. A hood plus cloak does tend to overwhelm a petite figure. I get such a smile imagining Buffy relaxing fireside in her blue dress. happy.gif

haute, what armor does Alise have Argis wearing? The Argis fan club (me) wants to know. biggrin.gif

Marius has finally styled his pal http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53754/ to his liking. We have tried just about everything on that woman. Marius is not interested in her that way (his words), but he does have to look at her a lot and he has standards. Anyway she’s wearing the “Thief’s” version of Triss armor – the dark gray but not jet black variety. What a wonderfully versatile outfit!

Posted by: haute ecole rider Aug 21 2014, 09:31 PM

ATM Argis is wearing the Nordic Carved Armor - it looks simply awesome, especially with the Ornate Bearclaw Cloak fromhttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13486/ I do try to give my companions serious armor, whether light or heavy. Earlier, he was trying out the Witchplate Armor from the Immersive Armor mod, it looked pretty cool on him, but I thought it looked better on Lydia.

Oh, I think the Nordic Carved Armor looks great on a big warrior fellow (like Argis). And, of course, I simply love the Triss outfit on rogues/mages. happy.gif

Grits, I just spent quite a bit of time reviewing that Arissa mod. Wow, it sounds fabulous! I'm really impressed with both Anduniel and Inigo (have both in Buffy's game). I was so impressed to see that Arrissa plays nicely with Convenient Horses and AFT - as I love both those support mods.

Edit: Somehow I had 'Aris' when I meant 'Argis' above.

I've always thought elven looks like something out of an alien movie from the 1960s. I appreciate it because it is pretty radical, but none of mine have ever chosen to wear a full elven suit.

If I ever continue Master Baytor's game (he's an Altmer) I think he'd be the first to wear elven, just because he would look so ridiculous / over-the-top in golden gear.

Yay for Nordic Carved, I love that armor on the big guys and gals. Stenvar wears it in Jensa’s game, and I’ve always admired it on Frea.

Acadian, I have enjoyed Arissa quit a bit. A wonderful feature for Marius is that they can temporarily split up when they enter cities through a very natural dialog option. It’s a small thing but it really brings her to life. He’s actually run into her in other people’s houses while he’s been in there up to no good. hehe.gif

I think the golden Elven armor is beautiful but requires some effort to make it work with a character. I have a holy fire warrior idea that I think will go for the look. She is supposed to look shiny and fabulous and full of herself with fancy feathers and such, because she is all that. tongue.gif Also it’s hard for me to overcome the Elven armor’s association with the Thalmor patrols. My Altmer characters have chosen other armor to disassociate themselves from the Thalmor.

I’ve found the glass set to be equally challenging but just as fun once a character embraces the outlandish look. DovahKen dressed Erik the Slayer up in a full glass set. He looked ridiculous at first but then I got used to it and really enjoyed the way light looks in the metal and glass part of the armor. DovahKen was short so he got to see a lot of Erik’s shoulders. I’m sure whatever DovahKen was wearing at the time looked equally outrageous.

Posted by: ghastley Aug 22 2014, 04:42 PM

My experiment with Elys using a two-handed sword and no armour (just spells) is working much better now. She got the Axe of Fiery Souls, and put the enchantment onto her sword. The fire part is a fixed 10 points regardless of skill or soul gem, and the variables are the duration and number of charges. Since she's gathering souls rather rapidly, the number of charges doesn't matter much, and a low duration is equally insignificant for a weapon she uses all the time, as long as its charge lasts for the whole battle.

The small boost from the fire damage seems to make a lot of difference, but that may be because it stacks on subsequent swings (extra damage to targets already on fire).

She's wearing horns in the circlet slot, hooves as boots, and has piercings in the body slot (plus her tail). It doesn't seem right to enchant any part of her person, but the jewels may get something later.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 22 2014, 05:11 PM

I love the Elven armor in Skyrim. It was one of my favs in Oblivion, and they fixed those silly boots in the Skyrimized version! laugh.gif I agree that it isn't for everyone. It is more for the fancy-looking character, not the rough and tumble types. At first I associated with the Thalmor too. But once I finally admitted to myself that elves are indeed superior to all other forms of life, I did not mind anymore. wink.gif

I love the Nordic Carved. http://i.imgur.com/12ooSHU.jpg.

Posted by: ghastley Aug 22 2014, 05:47 PM

The Nordic Carved Helm is about the only one my characters would want to wear. What's the point of spending ages in chargen making 'em look good, just to hide it all inside a can?

Posted by: Acadian Aug 22 2014, 09:20 PM

Before we got any mods, one of my fave outfits on Buffy was the Imperial light armor with Imperial bracers and hide boots - just the perfect blend of flattering and practical.

Unfortunately, the first time she wore it into a camp of Stormcloaks, one of the Nord women there pulled her aside and warned her that wearing Imperial stuff around the Stormcloaks could get her killed. kvright.gif

Posted by: haute ecole rider Aug 22 2014, 09:38 PM

Yup, agree with that, Paladin.

Alise had second thoughts about having Rayya wear Imperial, being so close to Falkreath (still Stormcloak territory). So she gave Rayya a extra set of Witchplate armor, which Rayya likes very much.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 23 2014, 12:06 AM

I like the tunic part of the Imperial Studded Armor, with the mail over the leather. But I never liked the man-skirts on all the Imperial armors. They look wrong for Skyrim's climate. I think the Imperials would be freezing their little legionaries off. The Romans stationed in places like Britain and Germany wore trousers for a reason...

Whoa really? I had no idea they actually say this. Haven't gotten very far with Civil War quest, nor have I had anybody wear Imperial and / or Stormcloak gear in an opposing camp of soldiers

I can remember early in my Oblivion days (2008 or 2009) one of my first characters wore some Necromancer robes into the Bruma Mage's Guild, for no reason at all. She just wore it. She goes to speak to the lady who leads that particular chapter, and this lady actually reprimanded her "Don't you dare come wearing that in here!" ... something like this. It only happened just that once. smile.gif

Yup. During Buffy's first playthrough. She quite liked that Imp light tunic armor. She's never gotten involved in the civil war. Li'l Miss Neutrality wandered into the Stormcloak camp near the road between Helgen and Ivarstead. It was one of the Stormcloak woman that told her something like "You've got a lot of nerve walking in here wearing Imperal armor!" The woman then sat down and didn't pursue it, happily. Still, it was enough to put Buffy off the Imp armor anyway. She likes and dislikes both sides about the same I figure. The Stormies hate elves and the Imps tried to behead her. The only one who has intervened to save her is. . . Alduin! laugh.gif

I’ve spent some time with Jensa lately. She wore her Stormcloak uniform throughout the war, but now that it’s over and she’s reached level 50 I think it’s safe to say she has settled on her look. Funnily enough it’s pretty much the same look she started off with.

http://i.imgur.com/PXaSEYa.png

http://i.imgur.com/0xd2JL5.png

In town Jensa favors blue dresses and white furs. Her jewelry is always her wedding ring and her Amulet of Talos, plus she has a circlet that looks pretty and fortifies Marksman. When she’s conducting business on behalf of High King Ulfric throughout the Holds she wears a http://i.imgur.com/c1WQB0L.pngthanks to a mod. At court at the Palace of Kings she wears the different Fine Clothes and Fine Boots that go with them.

Her favored blade is still the Skyforged greatsword that Eorlund gave her, but she also carries the Stormblade which is enchanted with shock damage. She uses a dragonbone bow and dragonbone arrows. After all she does spend a lot of time shooting at dragons. biggrin.gif

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 11 2014, 10:41 PM

I think it is funny that Ulfric's outfit does not look at all like Ulfric's Outfit! That was one I tried on when experimenting with Lucia's clothes. I still love how it looks though.

Jensa's outfits are very functional and down to nirn, like their wearer. The chest area of the warm weather one certainly makes the temperature rise! laugh.gif

I picked a body replacer with ultra-slim Abiene and little Elven Lil in mind. Did not anticipate that I was upgrading Jensa’s rack to Legendary! laugh.gif

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 14 2014, 08:34 PM

It is the weight slider. On most of the modded bodies, it is not a weight slider, but a boob slider. Seriously, that is the only thing it changes. Because of that I just keep it all the way to the left for my characters these days.

Posted by: Acadian Sep 16 2014, 07:07 PM

SubRosa is right,. I use CBBE Slim - It is a slimmer body overall and the weight slider is A cup to the left, B (for Buffy) cup in the middle and C cup to the right. With the 'not slim' version of CBBE, those positions translate to the more Nordic cup sizes. What I really like is when a modded outfit responds to the 'cup' slider so it can be made to fit perfectly. The CBBE Triss outfit is like that and, therefore, fits perfectly. I would love to find a mod that allows the mantled (college) mage robes to do that. Tired of pretending that they are simply well padded. laugh.gif

Buffy's back from Solstheim with some new vanilla things in her wardrobe -

A full set of Skaal furs. Mmmm, toastie! tongue.gif

A full set of stalhrim light armor. Kewl!

A pair of Dunmer outfits in rust and blue. The top looks a bit like College robes, but with just a normal length tunic, then pants. The lower arms and legs have the same type of wrappings as College robes. Here's a UESP wiki picture: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:DB-npc-Dreyla_Alor.jpg

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 27 2014, 03:26 PM

I like that top she's got on. Very au contraire from what is normally expected, since the hemline is straight across rather than tapered. Nothing to call the Fashion Police over, that's for sure.

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 27 2014, 05:28 PM

I like the Dunmer clothes from Solstheim. They look very functional, and still have some color and ostentation. The Skaal furs always looked too bulky to me, like a character would not be able to move once they put them on. Like the kid in A Christmas Story when he had his winter coat on. He lay there like a slug, it was his only defense! laugh.gif

Posted by: Acadian Sep 27 2014, 06:07 PM

Another thing I like about the Dunmer outfits is that they have pants. Dresses are wonderful, but pants generally make a bit more sense for adventuring and horse riding. And so many of the vanilla outfits morph into having a skirt when donned by a woman. The miner's outfit is another 'pants regardless of your sex' outfit, but the problem with the miner outfit for women is that the top is so very much proportioned for those busty Nordic women - looks ridiculous on a slender elf.

That's exactly what the Skall furs are like on Buffy! Dressing a toddler for subfreezing temps! laugh.gif

Posted by: haute ecole rider Sep 27 2014, 06:36 PM

Another vote here for the Dunmer outfits from Solstheim. Practical, useful and not too gaudy. At this point though Alise has not worn hers much yet - she gets too cold in them! Even in Falskaar she is casting Bask spells every few seconds when she is outside!

Posted by: Grits Oct 4 2014, 07:55 PM

I’m sure Buffy looks adorable in her Skaal snowsuit. happy.gif Jensa thought hers made her look like a horker. Her man Stenvar (who is so not a bard) explained that it wasn’t the furs, it was her hips. The Stalhrim light armor (without the bug helm) is one of my favorites.

Lil feels Buffy’s pain with the miner outfit. Early on I found a nice retexture that unfortunately made Lil look like she was about to tip over. I’ve found a few trouser outfits (mods) for her to try when she gets back to Skyrim. One of Lil’s main concerns is the rear view when she’s sneaking, since she generally has a Nord watching her back.

Mustard, your Dwemer Terminator looks impressive! ohmy.gif

And, SubRosa, you and PurseMom have helped Sophie and Lucia make excellent outfitting choices. The two outfits really suit them well. happy.gif

Grits - Buffy was shopping at Radiant Raiment and found a tavern outfit that she quite likes. Its neckline is a bit low, but it actually fits well and best of all, Buffy likes the hemline on this one that is angled and around/above her knees. As Teresa and Tadrose will attest, elves can get away with short skirts pretty well. She also found a green robe at the same store that makes for a nice sleeping gown (instead of the monk robe she's currently using). smile.gif

*

Buffy's pretty much welded to her custom mystic bow, but she changes outfits quite a bit. At the moment, she's discovered Savior's Hide with scaled boots and bracers. Someone told her that if a short elf wants to look leggy, all she has to do is raise her hemline. . . .

OOh, what's the name of this outfit?

I love Radiant Raiment, even Mycharonna loves it too. I think it's pretty neat that there is only one place in all of Skyrim that exclusively sells a lot of wardrobe choices like this, you know? I dunno. It always feels rather special going in there.

The only thing I dislike about RR is that haughty [censored] who runs the place. indifferent.gif Can't stand that NPC.

Posted by: Acadian Oct 11 2014, 10:44 PM

Renee, you are exactly right! Nice selection if you can put up with the 'attitude'. Those darn Altmer are so tall compared to Buffy . . . they seem to delight in looking down on her. laugh.gif

Anyway, the outfit is called 'Tavern Clothes'. Here's a pretty good picture of it on an NPC - http://images.uesp.net/8/8b/SR-npc-Alva.jpg

Buffy normally wears the outfit with just a muffle spell on her feet - that's her 'slippers'. Lol.

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Oct 12 2014, 04:38 AM

Whoa wow, love that picture, I bet that'd look good on Buffy for sure.

Mycharonna bought RR's "Mourner's Outfit" which is black with touches of white and red. I'll try and get a pic soon. She typically wears this outfit when in towns (or if she's around people she's trying to convince that she's human), but then switches to necro-robes during combat, or if she's trying to intimidate someone. I RP this switch as a sort of shapeshifter-type spell.

Posted by: Acadian Oct 12 2014, 12:39 PM

Heh, Buffy bought one of everything the RR had that was unusual. Red robes, green robes, chef outfit, mourner outfit, tavern clothes. Then she did a fashion try-on show and only kept the tavern clothes and green robes.

She did the RR quest and was a bit surprised that dear Elisef liked the shapeless bag the RR girls put Buffy in. laugh.gif

Neat idea on morphing clothes by spell. Buffy pretends to use an alteration spell to switch among the three color schemes she uses on her Triss armor (only one set of Triss boots/gloves though). She has a forest, dungeon and town color scheme.

Hmm, I wonder if Mycharrona would like the black quilted 'fine clothes'? Buffy put Illia in the brown version and it looks pretty good - except a bit too much like Maven Black Briar. kvright.gif

If she’d like a second opinion I know some folks who would gladly take a good look. Fair warning, at least one of them will say he can’t tell and can she turn around again, and maybe bend a little, and he’s still not sure so please give us another spin, and for comparison maybe one without the furs, and… laugh.gif

Renee, I think the Mourner’s Outfit works great for a vampire. It blends in the shadows and doesn't show any messy stains. ohmy.gif

Abiene is not sure if she’s actually smaller in Skyrim or if she just feels that way due to the abundance of overgrown Nords, but she’s also a fan of an angled hem on her petite self. Abiene does not wear short skirts outside of the bedchamber or the Temple of Dibella, but she admires them on the wood elven lasses. Lil has a new short tunic that she’s still accessorizing. She discovered that wearing it with thigh boots and no leggings works like some kind of Paralyze Nord spell. Oops. tongue.gif

But back to Abiene. Now that she has some perks in Mage Armor she feels confident enough to leave the house without a metal dress, so she’s settled on the Adept Restoration robes for her adventure outfit. Brown is her favorite color, so when she finds Expert robes for sale I’ll probably just make her a custom Adept robe with the Expert enchantment. She wears mage gloves (without the cuff so they don’t clip through the robe sleeves) and tall tan-colored boots, both with small enchantments to enhance her magery. I don’t recall exactly which ones they are. She’s not a dedicated enchanter so they’re not very strong.

Here she’s http://i.imgur.com/eNhZWUc.png. (She’s still looking for a cloak in a slightly darker shade to better match the hood.) The hood has a mantle so sometimes she just wears it or her brown linen hooded mantle without a cloak when she gets somewhere warmer, depending on the state of her hair. She does not take off her hood when she gets back to town until she’s had a chance to freshen up indoors. Abiene wears an Amulet of Mara and a Circlet of Restoration http://i.imgur.com/M4NtuEY.png or adventuring since she uses mostly Restoration spells, and she wears an Amulet of Dibella the rest of the time. She has never bothered with the College hoods since she found a Restoration circlet. Oh, and she has a different brown fur cloak and hood for city wear. It’s beautiful and does not have any of the stains and off scents that tend to cling to the things she has worn in crypts and dungeons.

Abiene is http://i.imgur.com/BtTQhl5.png, but she is very particular about how things look. In her opinion most of her footwear looks too thick. She never wears trousers, only leggings under her College robes. Her outfits are generally http://i.imgur.com/cUdY8Sd.png or http://i.imgur.com/qb1Z9uG.png on them. She has different shoes or boots for most of her gowns, and she wants that tan cuffed pair of boots in a different color which means I’m finally going to have to learn how to do that. (She also wants a brighter gown to go with her red hair flowers. Yikes.) Abiene’s http://i.imgur.com/oPrWte4.png. The red-trimmed robe is her nightgown. She absolutely loves Buffy’s mystic slippers! Warm and comfy with the benefit of showing off one’s slender feet. smile.gif

Abiene carries no weapons except for a dagger which is only for politely dealing with really tough cuts of meat. She has the Wabbajack for emergencies but she’s never used it since her aim is dreadful and she’s worried that she’ll hit an ally. Abiene is not a killer, but she’s gotten very good at putting undead to rest. She and Jerric took on Potema with Abiene’s sabre cat familiar and Jerric’s frost atronach Ishckrihk backing them up. Abiene’s NPC class would be Mystic (Alteration, Conjuration, Illusion, Restoration, Sneak). It actually fits her perfectly.

What a delightful look into Abiene's wardrobe! I think she has great taste with the browns, furs and darker reds - understated, elegant and practical. I think it's fun that she dresses just a bit conservatively. Those (like Jerric) who know her well realize she does indeed have a wilder and more adventurous streak - although generally only displayed privately. I think that her hair - dark but with a touch of wildness to it is the best clue as to what hides beneath. wink.gif

Abbie's traveling furs look very appropriate to the rather arctic nature of the college.

The Nirn-tones work well with her hair, and give her a very practical, unpretentious look.

Buffy's currently wearing a delightful outfit that seems ever so perfect for her - http://i.imgur.com/YnOUchs.jpg

You can probably see the convergence of College robes, Assassin's Creed, buckskin & silk, even a hint of the vanilla vampire armor.

Posted by: SubRosa Nov 9 2014, 12:45 AM

Wow, that is very eclectic. And are those boots from one of the DB outfits?

Posted by: Acadian Nov 9 2014, 12:55 AM

Thank you! I'm very pleased with the outfit. It's called http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/39983/ and comes in several color combinations with quite a few accessories.

The boots that come with the armor are modified vanilla vampire armor boots. In the screenshot, however, Buffy's wearing her Triss Armor boots. She prefers them as they are less 'clunky'.

That is a fabulous outfit for Buffy! Those slender boots are especially nice with it. Buffy’s hair feathers add the perfect touch, and as ever that circlet brings out her sparkling eyes.

I absolutely love Superian’s expression in this picture. She is making her newly blonde presence known! happy.gif

AAs outfits are striking. Allie's is very colorful, and Annes looks like it came straight from Madonna's closet! laugh.gif

Lucius wears a full set of unenchanted leather armor, the only exception is his leather helmet, enchanted with 20 points of additional magicka but he only wears it if it's raining or snowing. In nice weather he wears a circlet of restoration which allows him to use less magicka to cast restorative spells. He always wears a Greybeard mantle, given to him by the Greybeards which keeps him warm (RP) and allows him to shout more often. But because he shouts rarely, he primarily uses it to warm himself when it's cold. And of course he wears a red leather knapsack to store useful stuff.

He almost always wears an Amulet of Mara which also allows him to use less magicka to cast restorative spells. He doesn't wear the amulet to find someone to marry, at least not yet.

His only sword is a http://shrani.najdi.si/?2d/bd/1UYxE9hb/173-practicing-with-new-.jpg which he found in Delphine's room in Riverwood. If he has to run around and do quests for her, then he at least deserves some powerful blade to wield. Before that he used an Imperial sword. Sometimes in combat he'll use an Imperial bow together with any arrows in stock. Lately he's been using Orcish arrows a lot.

On Solstheim Lucius wears a full set of Chitin armor of Major Restoration that he bought in Raven Rock. In bad weather he wears the matching helmet, otherwise he prefers to wear the Circlet of Major Restoration. He replaced the Amulet of Mara with the one of Dibella and has a Ring of Recharging on his right index finger which he bought at Belethor's a while ago.

His weapons are still the same - the Blades Katana, the old Imperial Bow and Dwarven arrows. He could have used more powerful bows and swords but he is quite attached to his old wooden bow that has been with him almost since day 1 and his One-Handed skill is high enough anyway so he doesn't really need a more powerful sword.

I have two characters to report. I forget what Claire Voyance II wears, but Nassqa of Akavir found some Hide armor which boosts Restoration early on. He got attacked by some bandit outside of Helgen, and this bandit was wearing the enchanted armor. I think he's got some cheap hide or leather boots on his feet, and also cheap gauntlets on his hands.

Nassqa wields a pickaxe (seriously), and just found a hunting bow. He's a passive guy though, so he'll probably just use the bow for hunting, and his pickaxe for defensive fighting against agro NPCs.

My latest little Bosmer archer has been noting Buffy's use of the Bound Bow, and is wondering what's the best way to get there. It's an Adept spell, so she needs to get her conjuration up to 50 to reduce the casting cost, and she needs to raise her archery to make best use of it. Right now, she's running around trying to sneakily use a regular bow, while a conspicuous flame atronach is getting all the attention, but it appears that detection is a party thing, and if the flamer is seen, so is she.

Any advice from Buffy's mentor?

Posted by: Acadian Feb 23 2015, 06:15 PM

Ghastley, you're right about that pesky leveling stuff for a bound bow user. I think you're on the right track if you're going to do it the hard way.

My solution as to how Buffy gets around this may or may not be acceptable. You see, in my view, she arrives in Skyrim as an experienced mystic archer - and her blue wavy bow is a big part of that - like an extension of herself. Therefore, I ensure she gets it right in the Helgen keep tutorial. I give her the bound bow spell and enough extra magicka to use it right off the bat. To compensate, I tweak the damage down in the CS, then gradually tweak it back up in the CS as she levels up.

I could never get my head around somehow making a normal bow somehow disappear every time Buffy wants to cast a spell. I mean she's only a little elf. . . where would she stick the thing since the silly game won't let her hold in her left hand while she casts with her right, nor will it even allow her to put it on her back when spellcasting. For some reason, that just bothered the crap out of me. The solution was a summoned bow that is supposed to disappear - that solved it for me and is part of my affinity for the conjured bows (besides looking snazzy). tongue.gif

Posted by: ghastley Feb 23 2015, 06:29 PM

I'd noticed her uncanny ability to carry a bound bow on her back when she wants to pose for a screenshot, so I figured some amount of console and mod work was afoot. tongue.gif

I don't think she's got far to go before she can get one, especially if she find the tome in Fort Amol (not that I've told her about that yet), and casts it before she reaches Adept. She's been raising Magicka in anticipation of eventually conjuring Bow and Atronach together, so I hope the game allows that.

Posted by: Acadian Feb 23 2015, 07:39 PM

Buffy using the mystic bow from the saddle was a must - and yup, there's some Acadian magic involved to allow for that. From Buffy's perspective (roleplay-wise), she can cast the bow on the ground, then mount Superian and sustain the bow via a small trickle of her magicka - after all, she can't cast spells from the saddle and doesn't need the magicka for anything else at that point. When she dismounts, she unsummons the bow so she has the freedom to then cast whatever she needs.

You'll be happy to hear that conjuring a bound weapon is completely independent of any other summoning spells. That is, you can summon an atronach (then a second additional one once you get twin perks), then conjure a bound bow no problem. Dremoras are dumb (sometimes fail to engage or charge off the wrong way) but strong melee brutes. Frosties are smarter, but melee only and their size makes shooting around them hard. Flamers are adorable with their graceful animations and they stay out of the way, but die easily. From an effectiveness standpoint, I think Stormies hit the sweet spot for archer support because they stay out of the way and are tough.

Oh, and when you get the mystic bow perked out, one arrow will instantly dispel your own summoned daedra - sometimes that can be helpful (or convenient).

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 23 2015, 07:46 PM

What I did to get around the Bound Bow being Adept level is to make a second, Light Bound Bow. It is easy, since all you have to do is copy the original spell, effect, enchantment, and item, etc... and make your new versions less powerful. I gave it the same stats as a Hunting Bow, and made conjuring it a Novice spell.

The tricky part is you also have to make new arrows for it as well, because otherwise you will be using arrows with Daedric stats, which is really overpowered at 1st level! Find the Bound Arrow in the Ammo section, copy and rename it, and adjust the damage down (I gave it the same as a Steel Arrow). Then go to your new magic effect for the Bound Light Bow, and in the Scripts box, go to the properties of the BoundBowEffectScript. Select BoundArrow and you can change the object type for it with your new Bound Light Arrow.

I'm quoting this from the 'Your Writing Process' thread over in the fanfic forum -

QUOTE(ghastley @ Feb 27 2015, 07:17 AM) *
...
I'm now trying the same thing with Willatu, a Bosmer archer. She's doing Bound Bow, instead of Legendary Ebony Battle-axe, so she's more on the magical side, and Smithing doesn't help. That's hurting Derkeethus, as she can't improve his equipment the way Ina did Erik's. However, with Stealth perks adding to Archery and Conjuration for her bow, she's dishing a lot out at range, and not getting many close encounters where he's needed. She can also summon an atronach to supplement, or raise someone she's already killed.

So in each case an overpowering weapon trumps the need for armour. I can see that this could hit diminishing returns at high levels, as the weapon improvements will stop when Ina's smithing caps, or Willatu's Conjuration runs out of useful perks. Ina can switch to Alchemy to continue boosting her Smithing, but I'm not sure what Willatu can do.
,,,

I overlooked something that might help you. Enchanted 'fortify archer' items for the head, hands and ring slots. Buffy doesn't worry about this because, as I said, we just tweak her mystic bow damage to taste in the CS. If you're foregoing that though, such enchanted items, combined with trying to limit how high your character levels might help keep the mystic bow viable enough.
