Wow, that was edge of the seat intense! We didnt know if Kraven was going to lose his shirt or get beat up or what. Then the almost barfight so neatly broken up by the staff-wielding Argonian was a fabulous touch. goodjob.gif

We see that Kravens overconfidence starts out analytical, then transitions to being fueled by emotion a glimpse of the gladiator we know from his future.

And more mystery. There is a heavy atmosphere of ominous here and it's unknown what the tavern keeper's intent is.

QUOTE

The sound of a bottle breaking against metal put a stop to it. Jahukawei had climbed up onto the top of the bar, his hand holding a staff that glowed green at the tip. Everyone knew he knew a thing or two about staff fighting and casting ahis crowd-controlling paralysis spell, and he had gained enough respect that no one would retaliate.

I love this! Jahukawei is one heck of a character you have created, I find myself wanting to cheer whenever he comes on scene! Great fight, great write!

Acadian:Phew. Glad no one had any serious injuries aside from getting a tankard to the forehead or a bottle to the skull. Jahukawei doesn't want trouble in his tavern, no way! If Kraven got caught in it, he'd return home a bloody pulp I'm afraid. Poor boy can't fight for his life. laugh.gif

One of his weakness is his overconfidence even in little things such as this, though it doesn't make him a terrible person. It's one of those flaws that he needs to fix. You're totally right that it comes as analytical and then emotional as we've seen in his battles. Thanks, Acadian!

mALX:Thanks mALX! Jahukawei is one of those secondary-type characters that just shine in stories. I never imagined he would be liked. Glad you like him!

A nice quiet talk over some brandy after the almost bar fight. We learn some more about Kraven's unhappy situation at home.

Sounds like good advice from Jahukawei, forged from experience.

The fact that the Argonian has a bad feeling about all of this is rather ominous though. kvright.gif

I have to agree with Jahukawei here, I think the trouble Kraven started/didnt nip when he saw it starting is going to have long reaching effects on his life. Bad night, and with the instinctive sense it isnt over yet. I do believe the title of this chapter was accurate, there will be scars from this evening, scars Kraven will suffer and pay for. Tough/well written/ Awesome chapter!

Acadian: It sure was a nice talk. It is rather ominous and is a feeling of what is to come, which you can read in the next chapter.

mALX: Scars will remain as you will see as the rest of the story unfolds after this chapter, which is the end of the Scars From Yesterday episodes. Then we'll be set with the actual continuation of the events after book 1 wink.gif

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the feedback and I am glad you are enjoying the story. I will post one more chapter after this one and I will seek to finish Vera's story before devoting more time to Kraven's, and hopefully gain more readers, too wink.gif

A gritty and well-written fight, with Kraven being outnumbered, outweaponed and outtrained. So we learn how he got shipped off to serve dark elven masters as a slave. A rich and poignant episode, since we know what is to come.

The Imperial will certainly remember this fight. And I expect it will play no small role in driving him to become the great gladiator that is part of his destiny.

Holy Cow, what a battle you described here! Amazing write! I can't say shocking because I saw it coming, he should never have allowed the conversation in a bar full of drinking men to turn to politics - play your cards and shut up, Kraven! ARGH! I know where he is headed and what will happen to him in the next months, and want to kick him except that I get to read more of your great story! Awesome write!

Acadian:Thank you, Acadian! I wanted Kraven's reason of being in slavery to be shown, and of course so that it will serve as something that will be in part of his life and how it will help make him the decisions he makes along the way. Don't expect those treacherous Imperial Legion soldiers to be gone forever. They are station in Morrowind after all wink.gif

mALX: Kraven just doesn't know when to close his mouth, does he? Its always his tongue that gets him in trouble. Between cynical comments, vulgar words against Telvanni women and other things. Don't worry, he'll get kicked for you smile.gif

Thanks, mALX!

Aaaand I've read up to the latest chapter.

I really enjoyed the glimpse into Kraven's and how he got himself into slavery; that typical arrogance of his once again landed him in a stink, and I must say you're doing a great job of exploiting that flaw in his character for dramatic effect and for the sake of the story. Poor fool never learns, does he...

And Shavaash is back! Hooray! And him and Kraven are a gladiatorial dream team! Mmmm...kay? This is unexpected, I'll admit, and I'll be interested to see what it is that persuaded them to put their differences aside and work together.

I think you are wise to focus on posting one story at a time. No reason you cant work on others while posting one. Since your stories are related and overlap, nothing says you cant finish a major segment of one, then switch to tell a major segment of another if that suits your purposes as long as you dont switch frequently enough to break continuity.

...and their offspring of all descriptions, from children to kittens to hatchlings. - - I love this description!

Having established Kravens credentials as a gladiator in his first story, this tale has not only filled in details of how the huntsman/farmer entered slavery, but moves us ahead to a time where the mighty Khajiit and Imperial are fighting as a celebrated team.

It is indeed a grim battle raging in the sands below, but your ending strongly hints at a propitious outcome for this dynamic duo: Two is enough because the adults are wrong, and their children are right.

mALX: One man can't remain a cripple for three years, not with the quick access to healing in the world. Because I love and fear you, I will get back to writing this. You'll be surprised on Kraven and Shavaash now and whats in store back in the stronghold.

Colonel: Thanks, Colonel! Kraven does have that arrogance shown ever since the first story. But how much is too much, one might ask? It won't be long before you see that he won't always be this arrogant. Remember, this is three years later. He might as well could be a different mad. A tad bit arrogant, perhaps, but less so than before.

You'll see more of that after the battle, I promise!

Acadian: I see what you meant. I just discovered I am to move to another country in a few months and I won't have as much time to write stories I do now. I will be very busy, so I might as well post my work right now. It will be easier due to my other tale being almost finished, and as you said, they are somewhat parallel with certain surprise crossovers.

These are dark times, indeed. Kraven and Shavaash are Andrano's best fighters. Small wonder he put them together to win his battles. But I am excited to show more and I am pleased you enjoyed this latest chapter!

BWAAHAA! My reputation goes before me? Lol.

Shavaash still tried, now and again, to spark a genuine arrogant retort from the human slave. And Kraven still tried to answer. They both still tried to pretend that servitude to a dark elf master hadnt changed them. As if the lash had never struck, or a close friend had never died.

What a powerful thought! Loved this!

I am so excited to see Kraven's story pick up where it left off before that interlude - now you're talking! AWESOME WRITE !!!! And so glad I intimidated you into finishing this!

You provided much history and background during this fight. Doing so without disrupting the fast pace desired during a pitched battle is difficult. No time to mourn Gwenabeth, Kraven get back in the fight!

Loved Shavaashs irreverent humor in the face of death.

As you often do during a fight, you delighted audience and readers alike here with another unusual twist a pair of magnificently described and ominous dremora! Although taking on the daedric pair is important, my concern is over what the blue-robed mage may do while the gladiators are distracted by his summoned minions.
