You have two words for a day... QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 19 2019, 09:04 PM) We have two kinds of snow: wet and powder Ehm... and skare of course. Don't ask me to translate that Google says it means "crust". If you're talking about snow I'd assume you're referring to the crunchy ice film it can get? Just guessing at this point. Lol.

QUOTE(Sakiri @ Nov 19 2019, 01:22 PM) You can flag the channel as not child friendly. It's what I did.
I'm also thinking of moving to bitchute but I don't have any of my old videos anymore and I don't feel like downloading hundreds of hours of videos to reupload.
I play games exclusively T to M. I refuse to make my channel child friendly, and Im not monetized. They shut me off, whatever. Just don't close my dang Google account because I use that email for everything important.
Especially when changing the email requires access to the old...
I'll probably migrate over to Twitch for my gaming needs when YouTube finally sinks .

Flagging a channel or individual video(s) as Not Kid Friendly means nothing if some lacky at the FTC decides the videos in question are indeed kid friendly. Here's another video discussing this. For now, mine all remain flagged as Not Kid Friendly, but I'll re-evaluated prior to the beginning of the year, by which time guidance for video game channels will hopefully be more clean.

For now, mine all remain flagged as Not Kid Friendly, but I'll re-evaluated prior to the beginning of the year, by which time guidance for video game channels will hopefully be more clean. That's why the part that I exclusively play T to M rated games come in. ESRB is the end all be all when it comes to game rating. If the game itself is not rated for children, the video is not made for children. Doesn't work for everyone, and don't think Twitch will solve this. Twitch will be required to do the same thing.. not collect information on children. They can also close your account if they deem it not financially viable, which mine also falls under, because it's not monetized. I don't want money for my channel. Especially since it involves giving Youtube my banking information.

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Nov 20 2019, 06:36 PM) So why is it that collecting information about children's online habits is bad (which I am not arguing), but collecting information on adults is good? Should not the law protect everyone of all ages from mega-corporations spying on us and selling our information to the highest bidder?
Because children cannot legally give consent. As an adult, you presumably are intelligent enough to know what you're getting into when you sign up. But most people don't read user agreements, just click okay, and go with that. Not that it's good, but that's just how it is. Companies are out to make money. They're not going to do something like host youtube out of the goodness of their hearts. That's why Google bought it. Because they thought it'd be a great money maker. It's running at a loss every year and they're trying to reverse that. Making it so that creators can't make money on kids videos is going to drive off a lot of creators. As it is, if you get falsely copyright striken you can't even contest it because the accuser is the one that gets to approve or deny your appeal. Youtube is NOT creator friendly and hasn't been for a very long time. This is why I'm thinking of just moving to bitchute for my video hosting. I'll still use youtube, because I watch other stuff like instructional videos, and a lot of twitch streamers host their streams on it(being in Europe, I miss the streams of all my favorites), but I won't host anything new there. Bitchute requires you to be 16 to make an account, or did when I signed up. It's not really for kids. It'll probably have to adapt a bit, but I'm not sure how much information they actually collect on people. It's still relatively new.

QUOTE(Sakiri @ Nov 21 2019, 04:50 PM) Elsagate?
No basically YouTube bragged it's the best place on the internet for kids, FTC said, "Oh... you aren't collecting data on those kids are you?" And then YouTube was like "crap there goes all our money" and got fined.
Now they can't gather info on kids, but they still want adults info, so they're going to punish anyone they think is making kid friendly content(which isn't allowed to be monetized) and lying about it to monetize.
Kid friendly content before this was considered safest for advertisers by people still wanting paid. Now that strat is backfiring because that stuff can't be monetized, up the content a notch to more adult oriented and the advertisers won't work with you because you're too crass.
PayPal, patreon and subscribestar have already dropped people for various reasons so they're not 100% reliable. People doing YouTube as a career are panicking for right reason, especially people in the toy, games and educational sectors.
