This is a tough subject with no simple answer. Clearly you can't have it both ways and you wouldn't want it just one way or the other. In the above story I think Wikipedia is in the right, because for me its just providing information. While this information may embarrass or cause discomfort to the family, it is still factual information as that is his name. It really isn't anything that someone couldn't find out if they really wanted to know.
While it is true that such information is obtainable by other means, I seriously have to wonder how relevant this particular information is. What purpose does this information serve? The only purpose I can see is being able to identify and contact the family members about this issue, and they clearly don't want that. Can't blame 'em either. Their son commited suicide, and that's traumatic enough. Besides, Tron, in his years of fame, was only known by that name anyway.
I have to admit at first I agreed with Wikipedia, too. Then I thought about it a bit more and also read more on the issue. Also, what really changed my opinion is the fact that Wikipedia Germany is trying to sell this whole court issue as an attempt of the family to actually
shut down the whole site. That is how the story was presented on Slashdot, for example, and that's how Wikipedia people portrayed it. It's not true though, and it smells to me of them trying to make an example of this case, despite the fact they're [in my opinion] in the wrong about this.
