I finished Courtship of Princess Leia. It was terrible, the worst portrayal of Leia I have ever read. She alternates between sobbing and swooning, and in a story filled with Amazons, is constantly in need of rescue. About the only thing interesting about it is that it was the first time Zsinj appears in the EU, as pretty much a throw-away character. I was really impressed with how other authors took such bare bones and built up the character into such a wily genius in the X-Wing books.

I also read Cobalt Squadron. It was good. It takes place just before events of the The Last Jedi. It concentrates on Rose her sister Paige, who are both crew in a StarFortress bomber. There is some nice character development with Rose, and in the end she leaves the bomber to serve on one of the bigger ships.

It also gave a more in-depth view of the new bombers we saw in The Last Jedi. I got a definite vibe of WWII bombers from the movie, and it is heavily reinforced in the book. Some things about them that looked like plot holes in the movie also got filled in. For example, their bombs don't fall out of their holds. Rather they are catapulted out by a magnetic rail system. Likewise, the standard bombs magnetically lock on target. So it makes sense that they would have all gone straight into that Dreadnaught they were dropped onto in the movie.

I have been watching Rebels again since seeing Last Jedi. I just watched the episode where Maul kidnapped the crew of the Ghost and forced Kanann and Ezra to give him the Sith Holocron. The asteroid base where they met at looked awfully familiar, since it was shaped like a semi-circle, with a hanger built into the side. I looked back at my copy of the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comics, and the same asteroid was in there! That was a really cool touch.

If that's what the writers where aiming for that's a good attention to detail.

The only Star Wars movies that will live past our time are the Originals. Prequels and sequels will be seen with merely a facepalm.

Becoming stale, mirocu. You’re like a parrot saying the same things over and over again. Get over yourself, buddy.

I know I keep repeating myself embarrased.gif

But it has nothing to do with overcoming me, myself or I.

I finished the old X-Wing: Rogue Squadron comics by Dark Horse today. They have all be collected into 3 omnibus editions. It was ok, but nothing great. The writing was pretty bland. But it was far better than the Empire's End comics that Dark Horse did. Those had bland writing and horrible artwork. At least the artwork in Rogue Squadron was ok (though still not stellar either).

It was fun seeing the old squadron from the months immediately after Endor - Wedge, Janson, Hobbie, and Tycho. There were also some cameos by characters from the X-Wing novels, such as Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik. We also see Ysard's rise to power. I checked the publishing dates, and the comics were done two years after the first of the novels. Plus they were all written by Mike Stackpole. So that all makes sense.

I started the first of the Rogue Squadron novels, and so far so good. I seem to recall being annoyed by Corran Horn the last time I read them (about 20 years ago). But he is not bothering me so much anymore. So far so good.

I did love how the book started with the mission to save the Korolev. I vaguely recall flying that mission in the X-Wing game. That was tough! But then so were all the X-Wing missions.

I think I once played an X-Wing game. You saw the fighter from behind and you flew around blasting Imperial walkers etc. It was actually pretty easy to maneuvre and aim. Don't remember the name of the game though..

That sounds like one of the Rogue Squadron games.

Yeah, I think that's it now when you mentioned it.

The one on the Game Cube was the best. I wish they bring it back.

Khajiit didn’t have a GameCube so missed the Rogue game’s on there (Rogue Leader, Khajiit thinks it was called?).

There were two: Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike

Rogue Leader is an excellent game, Rebel Strike made the baffling decision to add on-foot sections, which were just a mess

Khajiit vaguely remembers playing a space level in a demo version of Rogue Leader at Electronic Boutique, way back in the day.

They'll have to pry my N64 and Gamecube from my cold, dead fingers.

I still play Shadows of the Empire at least twice a year.

Loved that game back in the day! Had a third party controller with auto fire and just mowed those Imperial dogs down! Bet it hasn’t aged well though.

The controls and animation is wonky as hell, but dammit if it isn't fun!
