Yes, the DLC is the worst part of FO4. Only Far Harbor brings anything substantial to the table. The rest of the DLC are just more items that they added to the settlement building side of the game. Don't get me wrong- the items are really neat if you like robot building and home building.

I would rather have story DLC, so this Fallout game is a huge step down from Fallout 3 unfortunately.

Is there a G.E.C.K. for Fallout 4 where you can create homes without the in-game mechanics?

Yes, they call it a Creation Kit instead of a Geck though. You have to install the Bethesda Launcher first though, and then you can install both the F4 and Skyrim Creation Kits from it. You run the CK from the Beth Launcher as well, not Steam.

Oh, thank you so much for the info! Have you tried it yet? How is home building in it? I wonder if textures I've used in all the earlier games will work with the new system?

I downloaded it a few days ago. I already made a mod that allows you to craft ammo at the Chem Stations. I have not gotten into home building yet.

Is it the same (Papyrus) language Skyrim used on scripts or have they gone back to the C++ type (style) ?

Once you install the DLC to your Fallout 3, does it automatically become a part of the world the wasteland?

Can I just directly go to the DLC levels immediately at the start of a new game or do I have to walk through the wasteland or quick travel to the location to start the DLC?

You meant for Fallout 3, not 4 right? With FO3, most of the DLC have a separate world space that you have to travel to in order to start them. There is a riverboat on the Potomac you board to travel to Point Lookout. There is an Metro Station you enter to do Operation Anchorage, etc... You can get sucked into the Mothership Zeta dlc simply by straying too near a crashed alien spacecraft, so that one can be a surprise if you are not ready for it. You would have to travel to all of these locations to start their dlcs.

The only real oddball is Broken Steel, which has some game tweaks that automatically take effect, like increasing the level cap to 30, and adding some new high level monsters. Otherwise the quests and areas it adds can only be accessed by finishing the vanilla main quest. BS basically extends that, and allows you to play the game after finishing the main quest.

I finally had the chance to play through both Far Harbor and Nuka World. Both were good, with new world spaces to explore, new people to meet (and kill), new monsters, quests, etc...

Of the two I liked Nuka World much better. This is in spite of it being mainly geared toward your character taking over a group of raider gangs. You can go the non-raider route, and simply kill them all (which is what I did since I was playing Persephone). That cut the Nuka World main quest short, as it ends with the last of the raiders being wiped out.

But there was still a huge amount of world to explore. The park itself is divided into 6 zones. The raiders are only in the first one. If you play as a raider you are clearing the zones and assigning each to a gang. As a raider-slayer you are just clearing them like any other place. But there is still lots of fun stuff to find and side quests that you can do. Plus there is more Fallout history to learn, like how those Nuka grenades from Fallout 3 were first created.

Being a theme park, the whole place has an exotic, strange feel, even for a Fallout game. One of my favorite places was a Space Mountain type ride filled with killer robots. The bottling plant (The World of Refreshment) was a lot of fun too. Nukalurks!

There is a small wilderness area surrounding the park. But it is mostly sparse. Still there are places to discover, and quests to do. The most interesting of the latter is similar to Come Fly With Me from New Vegas. But has a very different ending!

Far Harbor was a good dlc as well. But the ever-present fog annoyed me after a while. Especially since it is radioactive, which means you are constantly popping Rad-X and RadAway. The fog also causes definite lag, even with my Titan X video card.

The main quest is interesting, but I did not like the narrow list of possibilities. You basically have to either wipe out the Children of Atom on the island or the town of Far Harbor. Or just abandon the main quest. Though you might be able to kidnap the leader Atoms and replace them with a synth. TBH, when Hecate went in to infiltrate them, the first thing she saw of the Atom's behavior set her killing switch on. So she did what she does best on all of them (and it is not very pretty). But even when it was all over, the game did not recognize that she had wiped them all out, and she had to nuke their base (granted, it's the only way to be sure... wink.gif )

When Hecate finally returned to the Commonwealth she was glad to be back. That might just be because I was getting tired of playing her after the last few months. But it was also at least in part because of the dreary, cpu-killing fog over everything as well.

Awesome to read about your travels (although Khajiit just skimmed lest thar be spoilers!). Since this one lost focus with Kim-Ly, he decided today to reinstall the game and mods and start a new character (it may be Kim-Ly 2.0 or a completely new character. Haven't decided yet).

I spoiled myself and read about the Nuka-World DLC and its features. At first I intended to take my sole survivor Lewis "Snake" Logan there, but I know what he would do in that place - purge it of raiders. I'll probably take him there one day, but for now the DLC became interesting for Vinnie's game, because I read that you can "tame" the gangs and become their leader. From his viewpoint as a pre-war crime lord, he could definitely employ some henchmen in his service, maybe take over a settlement or two and build a mansion for himself. Maybe I won't take him down this path in the end, but the idea is interesting to ponder about.

Nuka World really intended for you to become the Overboss of a group of Raider gangs. Most of the quests revolve around that, setting up new bases for the gangs, restoring power for them, etc... It is possible for you to just kill them all instead, which is what my characters always do.

Yeah, that's what Logan would / will do if he gets to the Nuka World.

I didn't know where the Nuka World Transit Center is located so yesterday as Vinnie was walking south from the Lonely Chapel, we noticed huge bottles to the west. A few minutes later we were standing right outside of the Nuka World Transit Center. It would be a shame not to take a ride to Nuka World if we made it this far.

There have been quite some interesting coincidences in Vinnie's game so far. First he found the very appropriate mobster-like outfit in Sanctuary. Then he found his favorite type of weapon on one of the settlers. Now, by sheer coincidence, he found the way to Nuka World.

However, looks like the place is meant for high-leveled characters, but I don't want to delay it, so I boosted his resistances with the console, after all Vinnie has a sub-dermal armor implant already from before the war, which makes him very damage-resistant.

To Nuka World we go! salute.gif
