LINKComments? I have one. It's really a disgrace that we have these kinds of stuff in 21st century. It would be understandable if this was happening in madieval times. But today? Even a true christian would know this is nonsence. Once a child goes through ritual of baptizing, he\she is a child of god. So much for modern society *roles eyes* Now don't tell me you belive in this stuff?

This is just like the Y2K thing.
Time is an illusion, m'kay? We rationalize time by putting our arbitrary calculations on it. We came up with the distinctive idea of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years.
Its human understanding that makes us live in the year 2006 A.D
Consider how long the planet has existed. Is it the year 2006? No.
And, anyway, even if we are to be so trapped in our illusion of our comprehension of time is "right" then the world would have ended on the 6th of June of the year 6.

I'll just have to put my "Time is an invention"- T-shirt to honor your speech. No, really, you are totally right, the fact that we've created time but that it now holds a steady grip on our lives controling every action is scary. Sure, it's a useful tool, but that's what it is and that's how we should treat it, it's not like we are constrained and controled by a.. screwdriver..

QUOTE Ford slapped a five-pound note on the bar. He said, "Keep the change." "What, from a fiver? Thank you sir." "You've got ten minutes left to spend it." The barman simply decided to walk away for a bit.
"Ford," said Arthur, "would you please tell me what the hell is going on?" "Drink up," said Ford, "you've got three pints to get through." "Three pints?" said Arthur. "At lunchtime?" The man next to ford grinned and nodded happily. Ford ignored him. He said, "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so." "Very deep," said Arthur, "you should send that in to the Reader's Digest. They've got a page for people like you."

I was dealing with this topic as the "6/6/6" premise as opposed to content on the website.

We did not "create" Time = Time is the 4th dimension. We have "labeled" Time, and wrongly so, of course. The year 2006 is all based on the Christ's birth, which has been shown to be unknown and that the early Church merely superimposed their own holidays over pagan ones to gain easier acceptance with them, so the whole June 6th, 3006 thing is relative. But time has existed irregardless of us. Ameoba's turned to jellyfish to fish which crawled to land which turned to lizards into dinosaurs which became extinct but the small land mammals survived ... long before humans. Everything on this planet (in this universe?) ages, even rocks. So don't overburden yourself with guilt thinking that men created time, we merely noticed it going by and in our usual frantic control freak way, had to label it. Time marches on - oblivious. ==================== And I think the 6/6/06 article may be reactionary to the new The Omen film - which I watched the trailer for, and what I liked about it was that Mia Farrow (Rosemary's Baby) is the child's nurse. Other than that, I see no need for this again. But each new generation must scare itself I guess. This post has been edited by Ibis: Jun 7 2006, 12:53 AM

By time we don't mean the presumable 4th dimension but the calculation of it. Time passes on, indeed, but we decided that one hour is 60 minutes, one week seven days, on month 30/31/28 days, etc..
So that's whay I mean by "inventing" time. Also since we invented it we should be able to follow it as we wish, not be enslaved by it.

I didn't say we created time. Our perception of time is based on our understanding of life on this planet... We see a distinctive night and day as two seperate "entities" if you will... QUOTE But time has existed irregardless of us. Ameoba's turned to jellyfish to fish which crawled to land which turned to lizards into dinosaurs which became extinct but the small land mammals survived ... long before humans. But if we were living outside the Milky Way, our view of time would be much different... If our planet had two suns, for instance... We view time as a way of relating events in terms of length as compared to, for instance the average human lifespan...
