Thanks to all of you for everything you've said. Grits: QUOTE Yikes, haute, that really stinks. Im glad that no one was hurt. It sounds like your Saturn did a good job keeping you safe. This. SubRosa: And this: QUOTE Ouch! At least there were no serious injuries. Cars are a lot easier to fix or replace than people. That's what I keep telling myself. But damn, it's still hard to lose a car before its time. Just heard from the adjuster this morning. It is a total loss. Not surprised. I went to the tow yard to get my personal property out of it, and was able to get a closer look at the damage. Nothing in the engine compartment is in its original place. Nothing. So I'm not surprised. The adjuster said it would be sold for salvage - that's all that's left for this car. So now we're off to the next stage, where the insurance makes me a settlement offer. Hopefully I'll be in a replacement by the end of the week, fingers crossed. I really, really hate this rental car. I'm hoping to get into another Saturn Aura, there's quite a few good deals out there.

Iīm sure it does as good of a job as it can for you during all this and that itīs perfectly aware that it canīt replace your own. Good luck getting a replacement you can connect with

Don't worry, 'Rocu. It's a decent car, but just not what I'm used to. Guess twenty years of owning Saturns have spoiled me. In any case, I returned it with a nearly full tank of gas last night, which is half a tank more than I got two weeks ago. About time, but I finally got a new used car. Yes, it's another Saturn Aura. Where my old one was the basic model, 4 cyl. engine, few options, this one is, while a year and 15,000 miles older, is fully loaded, with a 3.6L V6, power sunroof, leather seats (heated!), auto-dim mirrors (a must for nighttime driving in the 'burbs, where every idiot in an SUV has his high beams on), 6-way adjustable power seats, and a universal garage door opener! Whoo hoo! It's silver with black interior, all the better for my old eyes. Light-colored interiors just strain my eyes from the glare. Yup, my eyes are that sensitive. In fact, one of the things that drove me nuts about the rental was that it didn't have automatic lights. So I kept driving off from work at 10 pm not realizing that I don't have my headlights on. Not good. Then it's dinging like crazy at me because I keep turning off the engine and getting out without turning the lights off! So now I'm ready to put all this behind me and spend the next five or six years enjoying this car. This post has been edited by haute ecole rider: Nov 7 2014, 03:21 PM

QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 9 2014, 01:20 PM) Congrats on your new Saturn! It looks awesome! (*cough*foranAmericancar*cough*)What? Nothing I hope youīll have many fine miles with your new friend The irony of it all is: Saturns, though built in the US, are more like Toyotas and Hondas in build quality. So Saturns hold up better to all the miles we put on them. My heart broke the day Saturn closed its doors (Sept 30, 2009). And so many of the Toyotas and Hondas sold in the US are created right here in the US!

QUOTE(mALX @ Nov 9 2014, 08:52 PM) From the damage in those screenshots, it is amazing you escaped with no injuries! You must have an angel watching out over you, I'm so glad you made it out safely and intact!
Actually, in modern cars, it's the responsibility of the car to 'take the bullet'. By getting distorted like that, the car absorbs a lot of the kinetic energy of the crash, and that's a lot of energy that doesn't "distort" the passenger. In other words: the car sacrificed itself for it's owner.
