Chorrol.com _ Skyrim _ Is your character a Milk Drinker?

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Feb 21 2015, 01:59 AM

Is your character a milk drinker? ... I am not going to define what exactly a 'milk drinker' is, so you all can interpret this in any way you like. What exactly is a milk drinker? It's open for interpretation.

I would say my main gal right now, http://i.imgur.com/BR16RrX.png?1, definitely is. She's got that wholesome look and 'can do' attitude. She's a go-getter. A mental cheerleader. And righteous. And sometimes annoying to the people who know her the most.

And she actually does drink a lot of milk, too. Not all of my characters do, that's for sure. I have a new character I'm creating who will probably wind up doing Thieves Guild, and he definitely won't be a milk drinker. Alcohol? Oh yes. Milk? Oh no.

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 21 2015, 02:09 AM

http://i.imgur.com/DFQXeHw.jpg is definitely not a milk-drinker. Not anymore at least. She was when she was alive. Like Claire, she was absolutely committed to fighting for truth, justice, and the Cyrodiilic way. But being dead changed her outlook on life... Now she is a not an anything-drinker. Though she tries to remember what that felt like, and what it felt like to feel. She wants to. She just does not know how to stir her dead heart.

Posted by: Lopov Feb 21 2015, 01:57 PM

Lucius is occasionally a milk drinker but most of the time he prefers mead. In the other context, he's not a milk drinker, but he knows how to calm those calling him a milk drinker, without killing them.

Posted by: Acadian Feb 21 2015, 04:02 PM

I interpret milk drinker as wimpy, skittish, fearful and not afraid to run away. So Buffy is definitely a milk drinker. When she encounters those grumpy adventurers on the road who say, "Go home to your mother, milk drinker!" she meekly picks the "I'll be leaving now," response. Then she moves away from them debating whether to kill them from the hidden safety of range and stealth with her mighty bow. Usually however, she just 'lets them go'.

Buffy's physical presence cannot even intimidate a mud crab, so she's adapted to take advantage of the skills and talents that she does have. She's never brawled or intimidated in her life but, by the same token, she's never ever failed a persuasion attempt.

This is such a silly thread! The question does come up (for me at least). What is a milk drinker supposed to be?

And another question: why does a single NPC call my character a milk drinker, even though she has two other people with her? Lol.. They see Claire with an archer and a big, brawny Imperial steel-wearing guy, and they pick a fight with us?

Anyways. I think I am going to create a milk drinker thread over at Beth. smile.gif And just leave it open for interpretation, ya know, like all these different people are going to have some different opinions and stuff.

Lord Haaf-Mersey? Definite milk drinker. Skankee Krahk-ho?? No.

I guess that the answer can be as good as why do people of Skyrim talk with their relatives about the exactly same subject from dawn 'til dusk? They're not too bright, I'd say, or have some troubles with short-term memory. wink.gif The same might be for people calling others "milk-drinkers", they can't talk about anything else, must be a curse of living in Skyrim. Or perhaps they forgot that they saw Claire with her guards just a few seconds ago.

Posted by: Acadian Feb 21 2015, 07:16 PM

I found it adorable that when Buffy did the Companions questline, the Companions initially referred to her not only as a milk drinker, but as a snow berry. Snow berry! IPB Image

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Feb 21 2015, 08:56 PM

Whoa, where'd you get that bouncing purple emoticon? biggrin.gif Snowberry is cute! .. I never heard that one. Probably because I have only had Nords and Imperials join Companions.

It's so funny too, because now that I have access to mods which silence these conversations, I don't even use them! ... Not with Claire's game, anyways. I just listen to these conversations and crack up. I also don't use No_More_NPC_Greetings in her game. I just laugh sometimes when people try to lay out their life story at her feet, and she brushes them off because she's already too busy. smile.gif

The Mighty Khahkhayre? No, not a milk drinker. And Crystal Beth was vegetarian so....

Posted by: Lopov Feb 21 2015, 09:09 PM

I can tolerate these repeating conversations in inns and markets to some extent but I can't tolerate that every NPC tells you their entire lifestory when you pass them, so greetings at a reduced distance are a must for me.

Well, somebody named The mighty Khahkhayre could hardly be a called a milk-drinker. laugh.gif Corcaigh wasn't a milk-drinker either, in fact he killed anyone that called him in such a way. He learned to recognize those that call others milk-drinkers and often provoked them, hoping that it'd end with a battle.

How about your ex-character Master Baytor - is he a milk drinker? laugh.gif

Posted by: Destri Melarg Feb 24 2015, 08:24 AM

I wonder if one could beat the game with a character that was a complete milk-drinker? No weapons, no poisons (poisons could backfire and kill you), no offensive spells (fire is scary after all), and no summons (because Oblivion is even scarier). The only spells you know are from Restoration (to turn the undead or to heal Lydia, Vigilance or whoever you choose as your meat shield). You spend every fight kiting, turning zombies, and healing your bodyguards until the thing chasing you is dead.

Edit: Hey Renee, maybe you could call him/her Passe Fist… or Milq Toste… or maybe Dor-Mat (for a Khajiit). tongue.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Feb 24 2015, 01:36 PM

Lopov: Hmmm. Master Baytor is a tough one. My conclusion (after dwelling on this topic for 10 or 12 seconds) is that he IS a milk drinker, but he hides it beneath all his tough talk and insults. hehe.gif

Destri: I think it's possible a complete milk drinker to survive, especially in a game which wasn't dead-is-dead. No way a milk drinker could beat da game though.

But see, I believe it's possible for a milk drinker to use weapons & spells. My opinion. It would be like a hall monitor with a taser. They don't go around using this taser unless some silly rule was broken

Posted by: Grits Feb 24 2015, 03:59 PM

Interesting thread, Renee! I have played several milk drinkers.

Pax the Benevolent (not his real name) was among the Thalmor’s most effective interrogators until he just couldn’t any more. Fortunately he experienced his breakdown away from the job and was able to go into hiding in Skyrim. Pax was a no-kill character, which meant he could not even have a follower who would kill for him. He went through dungeons using Turn, Calm, and Fear, and running while healing himself. He could not do any quests that required looting a dead body, so there were never dragons in his game. There are a surprising number of favor quests where you can get in and out without any death except possibly your own.

Denelle 2 was a dungeon runner. She used Block and healing to do pretty much the same as Pax. She did not have a strict no-kill rule, but she would always flee rather than fight. Both Denelle 2 and Pax’s games ended not with their deaths but because they eventually just got boring.

One of my favorite characters ever was the milk drinking Achille. He was a conjuror/illusionist who due to childhood trauma (surviving the sack of Markarth) was incapable of dealing any direct damage. I started him on Expert and his armor rating maxed out around 70, so his game was very, very tense. He did not mind killing. He just couldn’t do it himself. Achille died during his master conjuration ritual (one-shotted by an unbound Dremora on Master difficulty). He was so much fun to play.

In Jerric’s crew Abiene is a definite milk drinker. She will pay off a thief or bandit rather than cause a fight that will surely result in their death by her current companion(s). Darnand has a similar approach, though he has no worries about blowing up every bandit in the Hold when his persuasion attempts fail. Lildereth takes pains to avoid conflict unless she has the edge, but when cornered she also fights (using Fear, a summoned critter, or a bow bash to get room to shoot) rather than backing down. This mostly happens with the thief random encounter. She ignores the taunting adventurer or simply tabs out of the conversation rather than replying. She does not mind being called a milk drinker, because that is how she presents herself to most people.

All comments about dairy products, do-gooders, and lactating prostitutes aside, I don’t think most Nords would call Jerric a milk drinker. He usually laughs off the adventurer taunts, but if they catch him in the wrong mood he will kill them with the same dark joy that he feels while battling the bad guys. Slaughtering someone whose only crime is being an idiot does not work well with the mental bargains he makes with himself, though, so he tries to avoid it.

Destri, I love the names! Dor-Mat, lol.

Posted by: Lopov Feb 24 2015, 07:41 PM

Nice to read about your less known characters (at least to me), Grits, their backstories are interesting, especially of those that couldn't or didn't want to fight.

SPEW!!! The UD is quoting Skyrim now! rollinglaugh.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Feb 26 2015, 02:16 AM

Awesome, have a look at this!

milk drinker

An insult / derogative term deriving from the video game Skyrim, often used by City Guards to suggest a person is weak and / or young / inexperienced.

Possible explanations:
Young babies drink milk from their mother's breasts.
and / or
Those who can't handle mead or ale instead drink milk.
and / or
Milk in Skyrim will restore a Warrior's resource for hard-hitting sword swings. Those who require Milk for this purpose would likely be lower-level, and inexperienced.

Don't be such a milk drinker.

Hmm... The only true milk drinker I have would be Lashun the Breton. He's not a fighter. He's not a spellcaster. He's a fellow who avoids trouble and rather use wits rather than force. He'll poison someone or go as far as literally backstabbing a person if no one else can do it. But he's a full time bookie and aspirant nobleman who dreams to spend his days taking hot baths in his own villa somewhere in Cyrodiil with bodyguards stationed everywhere and foxy young maidens serving him grapes and wine and back rubs.

But he'll have to get his hands dirty ....

Now, don't get me started on my undead siblings. They'll be milk(blood)drinkers for centuries since they're nobles and political figures and at times ambassadors. But when they're dirty secret is threatened to become public knowledge... Well, they'll have to take matter in their own hands by pulling strings. They don't resort to violence when they can have people do it for them. But as their patron they can be quite brutal and all sense of milk-drinking is cast away.

Now for my warriors... smile.gif

Posted by: ghastley Feb 27 2015, 12:41 AM

http://ghastley.org/Skyrim/images/clarisse2.jpgwill tell you that sailors don't drink milk, because it goes sour too quickly at sea. Water doesn't stay fresh too well, either. So you need alcohol in it to kill the bugs.

She'll admit drinking grog.

Clarisse looks. . . healthy. tongue.gif Great hair with the straight bangs - I'll bet Renee would like that for her Xena character.

Never looked at Buffy this way. Hmm.... The steals part makes sense though as she wouldn't normally do a head-on collision with her foes some hot-heads may try to do 😶

Sorry Acadian, the Buffy Doctrine excludes her from milk drinker status… and, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't she once grab a clannfear by the tail to keep it from mauling Savlian? wink.gif

Posted by: Acadian Feb 27 2015, 02:49 PM

Yes, well there is that. . . embarrased.gif

While she often does play meek and back away in order to achieve a safe sniper perch, she can indeed go into a mama grizzly act when someone she loves is really in danger - like the Savlian/clannfear episode you described. Now that you mention it, she has done similarly imprudent acts when Superian is in danger. Like when Mazoga threatened to eat the mare shortly after Buffy met her. Or when a bandit swung an axe at the horse. . . .

Oh whoa, wow. Neat. I have heard that it's possible to completely avoid combat in this way. Never tried it myself, though. Nassqa comes closest I guess, since he has run several several times from combat. He likes to hunt non-hostile animals, too.

I suppose that I (Me, Renee) is the biggest milk drinker, compared to my characters, simply because I do whatever possible to keep dragons out of my game. unsure.gif Even on PC, they can possibly show up in Claire's game, but the odds are extremely low: 5% chance every 25 days. biggrin.gif

http://i.imgur.com/jMgbp39.jpg was definitely a milk-drinker to start with. But her long evolution as a person eventually caused her to replace the milk with Tamika's, and learn to come out from behind Simplicia's skirts and stand on her own two feet.

http://i.imgur.com/cd4LSMK.jpg might look to be a milk-drinker to most people. She is quiet, and tries to avoid attracting attention to herself. But underneath that shy exterior she has the heart of a sabre-cat. It took a lot of nerve for her to make the life she did for herself, not to mention pure stubbornness.

http://i.imgur.com/Gn7QFMA.jpg is another one who looks milky on the surface. She has a taste for the finest things in life, be it clothing, food and drink, or men and women. But like Aela, she is a lioness under all the refinement.

Having seen both Persephone and D'Eon I can attest that they are certainly not milk drinkers!

I have many characters in my stable. None of them can adequately be described as a milk drinker. I briefly considered rolling a Khajiit pacifist (named Dor-Mat of course), but reading Grits take on her experience with Pax has soured me on the idea.

That's all from me, but I have someone else here who would like to weigh in:

From the Desk of Rugrat gro-Shurgak, Son of Lord Rugdumph, Arena Grand Champion, and Knight of the White Stallion:

Why all the preposterous of talk and thought being given to the imbuing of milk? The Nords of Skyrim must truly be uncircumcised to go about libeling people with such a derivative! It is my understatement that milk is derided from the adders of cow, goat, or horse. Why would someone go to such lengths to dessicate a perfunctory good dinner?! Given the evident, I subsist that such a liberation must contravene to weakness... which is why the nords use the term as a dispensation. I personably have never met a strong warrior for whom milk is a fixation of diet. It seems preponderant to me that anyone would willfully choose to consumate a bevelage that makes them the weaker for it. I choose to continece drinking mead or ale, as these have no affectation on the strength necessitating to swinging Volundrung. Indeed, one might augment that there consumation engorges that strength!

Posted by: Renee Mar 21 2015, 12:27 AM

Teresa a milk-drinker? Okay, yeah, maybe in her early days.

LOL Dor-mat. rollinglaugh.gif

What would your characters do if called 'milk drinker?' ... I was forced to consider this after Claire met an orc who called her this. Claire is definitely not ashamed to be a member of this bovine beverage's society. She merely shrugged.

Now, some of my others definitely would not like to be called this. Some of my Xbox characters (Skankee Krahk-ho and The Mighty Khahkhayre, sometimes Mycharonna too) would not just shrug this comment off. Skank and Khahkhayre would want to fight, definitely!

Posted by: Acadian Mar 21 2015, 01:37 AM

When Buffy gets called a milk drinker she tries to meekly disengage. After all, if she can hear them, she is close enough to be at a distinct fighting disadvantage. That said, this assumes the insulter is not endangering the elf's precious mare. Should that be the case and the mare's speed cannot extricate them, she does a totally irrational pygmy grizzly bear routine usually involving a paralyze or fear spell followed by the summoning of lots of teeth, claws and finally her bow. If no danger is present though, as I said, she'll meekly yield, take the insult, whatever it takes to disengage. Then she'll gain some distance. And with that range comes courage. Once out to stealth/sniping range, then she'll debate whether to strike or not. Usually she just lets it go though, as no real harm comes from being called a milk drinker. And she likes milk just fine.

Posted by: SubRosa Mar 21 2015, 02:33 AM

Persephone killed everyone who called her a milk-drinker. To be honest, you could almost just end that sentence after everyone... wink.gif She didn't take crap.

Her first time into Riften she killed almost half the Thieves Guild. Maul started that auto conversation with her right after she walked past Mjoll and Mr. Friendzone. Persephone tried to just ignore Maul, and cancelled out of the conversation without saying anything. He replied with something like "you'd better walk away." That was all it took to set of her killing fuse. She turned around and sliced his head off (I modded them and the Companions to remove their essential status). Sapphire came running over and joined in, so Persephone killed her. Next came http://i.imgur.com/AFy8ibq.jpg. When the guards finally came over, they gave her a 40 gold fine. laugh.gif

Likewise, she killed half of the Companions because they ticked her off.

Teresa may have appeared to be a milk drinker, but fear and timidity never stopped her when it counted. Being a fish eater gave her the power to overcome any tendency toward drinking milk. Aw, it was so good to see a screen of her again!

Aela could never ever be confused with a milk drinker, because no matter his/her quiet nature her eyes made a lie of anything even in the same realm as milk drinking. She/he was dynamic. She is one of my favorite of all your characters; but Teresa is still on top!

Claire Voyance definitely is a milk-drinker. Figuratively and literally. She just bought a 6-pack of milk. Well ... 6 bottles of it.

I think I may have said this earlier in this thread, but yeah, she's definitely the biggest milk-drinker I've ever created for this game.

I made a little dairy delivery mod to fix the scarcity of milk and butter in my games. My biggest milk drinker: Jerric! When he gets home (mostly to other people’s homes) and opens the dairy crate he will stand there and down two whole jugs right on the spot. With the amount of alcohol he drinks I’m amazed it doesn’t curdle in his stomach. Then again, maybe it’s the jugs that he likes so much.

Jacelyn the thief (Breton) is definitely a milk-drinker in the Nordic insult sense. She can be bold with her bow when there is plenty of cover and some other fighters on her side to take the heat (like when a dragon attacks a city), but otherwise she sprints to the shadows whenever there is conflict. She loves her dog and likes Vorstag a lot, but her motto is “Cover thine own ass first.”

Posted by: Renee Dec 23 2015, 04:58 PM

Yeah, I could see Jerric as a milk drinker. Not sure why. I Lol'd at the way he can't help but drink other peoples' too! wink.gif

This just in: White Wizard is definitely NOT a milk drinker. It's weird. He looks at the menus various vendors have, and he simply never goes there. He's not very particular otherwise. He won't eat cabbage, he's not too much into sweets, won't touch horker meat, but everything else ... he's not too particular.

Despite being a former beggar, he also doesn't touch alcohol very often. He had a bottle of wine at the College the other day, but this was in his off-time, relaxing and such. Maybe this is why he's survived so far, while all his former beggar friends have either perished or gone back home.

Bjorn is definitely NOT a milk-drinker, literally or figuratively. He hates the stuff. And he's nobody's idea of a wimp, or else. mellow.gif

Posted by: Lopov Mar 15 2016, 04:43 PM

The Rat is partially a milk drinker. He'll often let other adventurers to clear ruins for him and then he'll proceed to kill them. He won't attack bandit camps, for instance, because he knows that he's too weak to handle too many opponents at once. On the other hand, he'll do his best to kill soldiers and bounty collectors that hunt him, even if he gets close to death.
