Chorrol.com _ Oblivion _ Bloating problem

Posted by: Lopov Dec 11 2017, 01:05 PM

My latest OB playthrough with Paralinque (for those familiar with my current character) has suddenly become plagued by excessive bloating. At first I thought that it's because of the outdated version of the mod called Get Wet but even after updating the mod and later on uninstalling it, the issue persists. With a lot of mods installed it's rather difficult to find out the culprit, is there any easy way to do this?

Her game has become more or less unplayable, sometimes it loads but even if it does, the horrible stutter more or less prevents normal gameplay. More often, it CTDs during loading. What I don't know is whether it's some script from Get Wet that stayed behind and is still kicking in or is it because of some other mod.

I told you this via PM, but I'll post it here too, so others might also be able to help.

Get Wet can't be the problem if you've uninstalled it and gone back to a previous save, but the obvious thing to do then would be to remove the newer version as well (which I see you've tried already). And also, go back to that mod's archive file, and double-click on it (opening up its contents). See what's in there. Should be just an .esp file and maybe a readme, right? Oblivion does not save any scripts as separate files the way Skyrim does, Skyrim saves them as .pex I think, separate from .esms and .esps. Look in the newer Get Wet's archive file anyway.

You aren't using the autosave function are you? I doubt it, but that's known to cause some bloat. Not 20 megs of it but still....

Other than that, I would start Googling. Which I know that really sucks to do in your free time when you'd rather be gaming, I know, I've been there zillions of times. But sometimes it'll be that weird, random little thing that's causing your problem, and nobody in the forums will even know about it, but somebody out there has come across this problem and solved it.

You could try something like https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/24606/

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work. indifferent.gif

Today I went on each mod's page on the Nexus and checked the comments about possible bloating but except for Get Wet I didn't find any possible mods.

@Renee - no, I'm not using autosave.

If I don't find the mod behind bloating, I'll reinstall Oblivion and install only mods about which I'm 100% safe that aren't responsible for bloating, then I'll run a sort of test character and add various mods one by one to see how the game will behave.

How many hours have you been playing the character?

37.

That hardly seems long enough for the A-Bomb, which was my only other thought.

Though Paralinque's game is corrupt and can't be "repaired", the problem was in me installing Better Cities Update in a wrong way. I found it mentioned in the comments section of Better Cities in the Nexus. I won't recreate her because I wouldn't be able to capture the same feel, also I had some troubles getting into a head of an evil character.
