Hello fellow forumites. I am Lady Saga, and today I'd like to ask for your help in naming my future scout character.
He's gonna have a North American woods Indian sort of vibe to him, Cherokee, perhaps. If I were to guess his demeanor, I would say he's more of a peaceful hunter/gatherer type, rather than a warrior.
His "job" will be to scout locations none of my characters have been to yet. I'll be using the paper map to guide him and his horse. Chances are he'll mostly hunt moose and bunnies and peaceful sorts of wildlife. Oh, wolves, too. Maybe bears when he gets really advanced.
I tried going on some Cherokee websites, looking for some simple names. Believe it or not this is harder than it sounds. All of these websites want money, or want you to buy a book or something. Or they don't have what I'm looking for.
The best I can come up with so far is Fleeted Foot and Eagle Scout, but I wanna get more ideas. It helps to have your character's name planned out before actually creating him or her, I've found. In the past I used to start creating characters. Oops! What should I name him or her? Next thing you know I'm stuck! Naming is very important for me.
How about Adahy, meaning Lives in the Woods.
Ahanu or He Laughs is not Cherokee, but I thought it might fit your name-that-sounds-like-something tradition.
So I take it you are not looking for a tongue-in-cheek name like Sc^ut's Ho~or? But rather a straight, RL Native American name? I have a list of some Native names that I have used in the past, a few are Cherokee, most are a mix of all tribes.
Adahy is a Cherokee name meaning "In the woods" (Grits ninjaed me on that one)
Ahmik = "The beaver", a symbol of skill
Apenimon = trusty
Bemossed = the walker
Chankoowashtay = Good Road
Chayton = falcon
Dyami = an eagle
Gomda = wind
Hache-hi = wolf
Honon = bear
Igasho = a wanderer
Kangee = raven
Kele = sparrow hawk
Kibbe = the night bird
Knoton = the wind
Kohana = swift
Kuruk = bear
Langundo = peaceful
Mikasi = coyote
Mingan = grey wolf
Namid = the star dancer
Tokala = fox
Wilny = eagle singing while flying
If its an Argonain, then names get real simple.
What race were you planning on using?
Man, you all are fast. Correct, SubRosa, I'm thinking this one might have just a normal name, but something that is actually Am. Indian. Maybe I'll do a play on an actual Indian name, or maybe I won't I'm not sure yet.
Hmm I'm liking Dyami. I'm gonna sleep on all these names so far, though. What would eagle scout be? And how did you come up with all those names so fast?
King Coin: Probalby Redguard. Assuming I can get some long braided or long straight hair on a Redguard male, this is what he will be.
Hey... no fair copying! I just rolled up a Redguard scout last night. Though anyone calls her a male will get first and arrow to the groin then mauled by a wild animal.
Those are all some names I copied from a baby names book a long time ago, to help me come up with names for characters. I just skimmed through them to find ones that seemed 'scouty'. I do not see any names that correspond to "scout", so I am not sure about combining it with anything else.
Try looking through some regular baby name sites. http://www.babynameguide.com/categorynativeamerican.asp?strCat=Native-American
Sweet! My guys is Native American inspired. Brown skin, long hair, loin cloth and a hunter.
But as for names, well...Ratohnhake:ton?
Good to know. Yea, he's taking on the entire room! What a little ..... <-rhymes with witch.
I can't help but always wonder whom I'm talking to on the other end. When folks get that trollish, what is it that makes them that way?
I liked your comeback, Coin. You're right....everyone is offering opinions and ideas in that thread. Nothing more. The discussion was rolling along pretty smoothly, an amazing feat in and of itself for such a controversial subject, until Blademaster07 showed up. I'll have to remember that name.
Edited.
I may have missed the boat with this, but this website is the one that th'wife and th'daughter use for their character names...

I just screw my eyes up like Hiro from...Um...Heroes until one pops out...A name I mean... ...
Hey. Just wanted to let you all know I did create my new scout character. He's a redguard named Dyami The Scout. Didn't really have time to get into his game yet, though. Busy weekend. But he looks good. Like I've said, it's easier for me to create a male than a female.
Hey everyone. Since Crystal Beth retired, I'm wanting to start another magic-based character. This time, I'm going for a dark elf Spellsword type, though. I'm thinking he'll be mildly evil somehow. Not sure until I got him created, though.
But I'm stuck on his name. I've been trying to come up with a name for him, one which is a dirty word in disguise, kinda/sorta.
I had an Altmer mage female in Oblivion whom I named "Igodah Go^Pe" (I gotta go pee). Something like that.
I've come up with a couple names which are umm.....hmmm...guess I'll just say them.
Khum^shott the Bold
The Mighty Khahkhayre
..... See what I mean? They're dirty words in disguise. I'm not sure I like either of those names, though.
Anybody wanna help me think of a better one?
EDIT: OH AND IT'S RAINING OUTSIDE. So this name needs to happen TONIGHT if possible!
.....
How about
Sa^sage C'm Ando
B^tt Pyrite
You're so awesome. Sorry if that sounds a bit juvenile but it's true.
So The Mighty Bhutt~Pyrate basically ran thru the entire Tutorial. He collected a sword, an axe, a couple healing potions, and whatever else he could grab. I ran him thru the entire thing, with the sounds on my TV way down.
After getting out of the cave, I tried to fast-travel to Riften. This is where his game will officially start, I was hoping. But I couldn't do it: I can't just FT The Mighty Bhutt~Pyrate to Riften in the vanilla game. I wanted him to start in Riften because it's closest to Morrowind, and he's supposed to be a survivor of the volcano, there.
So instead of FTing to Riften like I wanted, I ran south with TMBP, until I found the first road he came to. Saved the game and exited. When I start his game next, it willl seem as if he's a dark elf from Morrowind who escaped the volcano, wound up in Skyrim, and has no idea where the hell he is. Sound neat? I think so.
Oh and he's going to have a Dunmer name, too. I'll use a random generator site for that.
The carriage in Whiterun or Falkreath would get you to Riften without all the running. On a side note, this thread has been most enlightening.
