Finally made this thread where I can put up some screenshots of my adventures in Appalachia. Hopefully others here will get the game eventually and put up their own too.

I can't put mine up at this very moment, but I certainly will soon. Whatever gameplay criticisms there may be, I absolutely love the scenery in this game. Who knew a post-apocalyptic wasteland could be so pretty?

That is also one thing, I watched a let's play video months ago and the scenery was stunning! But the video author kept rushing around at full speed zip zip zip zip!!! and I was getting dizzy. That's why I had all those questions about the actual gameplay awhile back.

And here comes the first batch of screens. I haven't figured out how to turn off the HUD yet (there is a photo mode, but you can't always just change to that and even when you can it is a bit cumbersome) and I've gotten some conflicting info on how exactly you do it or whether you can. So unfortunately, these shots are going to look a bit tacky, for lack of a better term. But I did the best I could so far. And--shocker!--my character's name is Mariah. Just really like that name for some reason.

It's neat to see 76. It looks a lot like Fallout 4, including the autumn leaves. It seems like every Bethesda game is set in October or November.

West Virginia does look good. The lack of other people makes the game definitely sort of spooky.

Gosh, the starting jump suit is sillier than ever. Are robots still hilarious to listen to? Have you grouped up with others yet?

I achieve this through mods in Oblivion and Skyrim, at least. Fallout 3 too, although I haven't seen what winter looks like yet.

I think all Elder Scrolls games start in Last Seed (August). Well, I don't know about Arena or Daggerfall. But the three later games start in Last Seed. And my theory on this is it has something to do with the beginning of the school year.

Eh, yeah I’ve been aware that there are mods that change the world textures to match aspects of individual seasons, but that’s not really the same thing that I was thinking about. I think it would be so neat to be playing a game and have the seasons dynamically change while playing!

The scenery is quite fabulous...in some areas. Can't have the entire post-apocalypse that way. It's quite a varied environment. Applachia is broken up into 6 regions, but 3 of them I either haven't seen or barely touched. The starting zone, The Forest, is the beautiful one you see. Most of it at least. But it's really cool to have such variety, from the beautiful to the horribly contaminated and ugly. One zone is called the Ash Heap, which...well, you can probably imagine what that is like to some extent.




While you can definitely see a lot of Fallout 4 art-style in it, there are also quite a lot of newer assets. Some of the detractors made it sound like just a simple asset flip, which it isn't. I'm not saying that that's what you meant, of course. I just remembered that being a criticism. But yes, some of it definitely does look a lot like Fallout 4.




Wood.

I guess that sounds sort of anti-climactic, lol. But there are some pieces of wooden armor that you find at low levels.




I do have a few screenshots where I encountered other players. And they've all either just minded their own business or have been pretty cool. A couple days ago I did an "Event" where I had to prevent a prison break (it was mostly just feral ghouls, but I did encounter a few Super Mutants as well), and there will 2 other high-level players that appeared to be a team. I did a "wave" emote and one of them did it back. I really like how few people are in each game world, though. It really gives that isolated feel but you can run with another person or more if you really want to.

Vault suits sure have a way of accenting people's...posteriors. Vault-Tec has really patented that Fanastic-Bum Technology ™. And yes, the robots are as goofy as ever. The Protectrons still have the same voice and one named "Mr. Fluffy" was funny to listen to--he was making fun of the dead guy at the camp I found. My favorite so far, though, was the Robobrain I mentioned in the Fallout 76 thread named Biv E. Ridge. I'll see if I can find a video on YouTube of him or something, but he's great. He's a robot that was built to help college students make the alcoholic drink Nuka-Shine which had a...special ingredient that you find out as part of the quest. (That shot where the screen is blue happened after I drank the Nuka-Shine for the quest). He was also a drunk robot, but he didn't sound anything like the Robobrains you are used to hearing.





2nd batch of screenshots coming up! So far, the only real way to hide the UI is to go into Settings and turn down the HUD opacity--which is really dumb since there are some great shots that you can't really do that for since the game doesn't actually pause. Also trying to figure out how to get the photos taken in "photo mode" out as normal screenshots.

The Grafton Monster? That is not one I have ever heard of, even after listening to 10 years worth of Monstertalk episodes. I thought it was cool that the incorporated the Mothman in the game.

It is nice that the radstags are friendly. As I recall they would attack if you got too close to them in Fallout 4. I always had to use the console to make them friendly.

Mariah is a superhero! Maybe she will team up with Blood Raven and Stormcrow one day.

That is a neat samurai firefighter outfit.

Neat, is there a coal mine that has been burning since before the War?

Particularly @Renee since she asked, but for anyone else who wants to know: Here are the lines of dialogue that Mr. Fluffy, the Protectron, may say anytime you are around him. If you wanted to ever hear a biting, sarcastic version of that particular type of robot, this is your lucky day.

And yes, imagine it in the voice and dialogue style of your typical Protectron, which is also how this Protectron talks. Makes the lines 10x funnier. Obviously would be nice to find a video online where people aren't commentating over it, but I did not find one, so this will have to do. Mostly read the second box under "Dialogue_RSVP03_VolunteerBot."

That does sound neat, how there are so few people in the world. It is consistent with the two Fallout games I've played. 76 wouldn't have the appropriate feel if the gameworld was packed with players. I also like the sound of all these different zones you speak of. There's some variety there.

Gosh, the lighting is gorgeous. Slightly less brilliant than Fallout 4 graphics, perhaps.

Mariah still wears her silly 76 jumpsuit.

I believe so. Can't remember where I took the photo, so I can't say for certain.

The last couple days I experienced some much tougher battles, biting off more than I could chew in a couple cases. In one such case, I encountered a Wendigo along with a few feral ghouls ganging up on me and I barely escaped the battle. I actually ran out of stimpaks. I ran out of stimpaks on another occasion too. In that case, I thought I was still within the boundaries of the starting zone, The Forest, but it turned out I had just entered the Savage Divide when I was trying to explore a tower on the map. Three charred feral ghouls--yes, the kind in Fallout 4 that were extremely stubborn about dying most of the time--at LEVEL 62 just annihilated me. I died 3 or 4 times, but I was able to respawn right there since it was a map location. I still almost died another time, but I luckily killed the last ghoul before he got another killing blow.

Here are a lot of screenshots from the photo mode this time. Honestly...photo mode sucks. You can only go like maybe 20 feet from your character and maybe only like 15 feet above them. Maybe they don't want you to use it to scout out a place or something, but that is overly limiting. Still, I was able to get some nice screenshots out of it.

Wow, for a moment I thought that Piper was in the game.

Mothman's Chapel is really creepy.

I think I can see Mariah in the middle of that pic, things get all warped-looking there.

The Camp shots look a lot more involved than I imagined. By the name, I was expecting just a tent and a campfire. That looks more like the standard settlement building in Fallout 4.

I have no idea what Hellooo Nurse is from, but I somehow remember somebody saying that during my Hot or Not Contest like 10 years ago in the old Bethsoft forums.

I like her dirty white dress. Do clothes / armor get dirty in this game as you adventure around? I seem to remember in Fallout 4 they can. But maybe that's wrong, too.

Wow, I really cannot spot Mariah in that one picture. But Dropbox also won't let me expand the picture all the way. Maybe it's the browser I am using. Where is she? She must be wearing camo.

Love the indoor lighting in some of these shots. It looks maybe like oil lamps & candles sometimes.

Well, it's been quite some time since I posted here. I'll answer Khajiit's question first (apologies about the delay).

A scorchbeast is a giant, irradiated bat. I can't remember exactly how they came to be, but they are the cause of the Scorched plague. The plague turns people into things similar to feral ghouls, only a bit more methodical and slightly able to put together words. Here's more info on all these ugly brutes.

For all the flaws of this game, the developers were very creative with the bestiary. Granted, we have yet ANOTHER version of Deathclaws and Super Mutants, but BGS went hard with the local folklore monsters.

I finally came back to Fallout 76 after a bit of a hiatus. And I have some screenshots from the past few days. On Wednesday, I even played a little bit with one of my guildmates from my PvP guild in ESO. I convinced him to try the game out (if it was on sale), and he got for pretty cheap. I found a giant resort called the Whitesprings Resort and the inside was almost entirely intact. There was an entire strip mall in there and you can actually buy a bunch of stuff! (There's a gold course, but alas, you likely cannot play golf).

And speaking of the bestiary in this game, I came across a new cryptid today: The Sheepsquatch. A Legendary one in this case. And let me tell ya, even though he didn't hit all that hard, to say he took a serious beating before he went down is an understatement. With a giant host of guns, grenades, and a sword, this fight took well over five minutes to finish. Maybe even 10. Several Super Mutants tussled with him at first, but they were no match for him. Luckily, he was slow and kind of dumb (though I think a lot of that was the AI, because he stood still against the Super Mutants for a long time.) But he could 1) run and headbutt you; 2) kick you if you were behind him; 3) jump up and stomp the ground to cause a mini-quake; 4) claw you, sometimes 2 or 3 times in a row; and 5) shoot a boatload of quills from his back like we used to think porcupines could. I ran through well over half of my ammo and my stimpaks trying to bring him down, and luckily I brought a ton of both. On the bright side, it seriously lessened my inventory weight. (This was all when I was on my own yesterday.)

Heh, he has since ditched them for military fatigues instead, since the latter can be used with armor pieces. Definitely had a grease monkey vibe, though.

Shesus this game is freeking gorgeous. Every time I see FOWV pics I want to try this game. Because again, West Virginia / Appalachians is an area I'm familiar with.

Maybe after Miss Vicious's story is concluded (later this summer) I'll try WV, and also Fallout 4. I'd have to buy a new console though. Maybe PS4s have fallen well in price by now...

Ha ha funny. I'll count those two extra endorsements, anyway. SubRosa, Khajiit, Lopov, and (I think) Kane and Rader were also playing a lot of FO4 back when the game was new. They'd post lost of pictures back in the 2017-2019 days, and I was always blown away by the graphics, which look damn-near photorealistic at times. Settlement building also sounds rather fun. Something I'd be interested in.

Xbox 1 or PS4? I don't want the game on PC. Hard to explain, but in a way enjoy the console experience more sometimes, especially if it's my first playthrough.

Fallout 4 is also my favorite, but to be fair I've only played through 3 once and I barely scratched the surface of New Vegas.

I've had countless characters and playthroughs in 4 and will probably start a new one once the 76 itch wears off.

I've never owned or played on a console in my life, so I'm not qualified to answer that question. But I think if I were forced at the point of a madman's gun to choose between one of them or die a horrible, lingering death, I would probably pick XBox.

I played on PS4 before building my PC and it ran just fine. If you plan on modding, though, I'd go with Xbox. Sony limits modding on the PS4 by only allowing mods to be made using base vanilla assets. Xbox has no restrictions and is closer to PC modding.

Edit: no restrictions other than nudity.

I went on an extended hiatus from Fallout 76 the same time I did ESO. Just got burnt out and frustrated with both of them, though much more so ESO. When I have a bit more time (hopefully after the next few weeks), I might jump back into it. I'll have to find you when I do. My Bethesda username is almost the same as on here, only it is "TheRaderoftheLostArk" on there.

Yes, it is. I remember reading up on it before. It also happened on the same day in the Fallout universe as it did in real life.
