Like today, I saw my follower jump for the first time. Every character of mine so far has had a follower. I know they jump, but I've never seen my follower jump over an obstruction!

Jenassa (Khahkhayre's dark elf wife) got stuck, and after a moment, I turned him around to have a look at where she got stuck, what the problem was. Suddenly, she figured out where she could jump over this little ridge, and did so. Thought that was pretty neat that after all this time, I'm still discovering new things here and there.

There's something else I noticed tonight, now I'm forgetting what it was! ...oh well.

If you have a torch equipped you can block with it... and hit with it too! Just like a shield bash! It lights people on fire when you do that.

Posted by: Lady Saga Jul 31 2012, 07:23 PM

Mmm hmm, what you said, King, about the torch blocking, it's true. I figured that out oh....about a month or so ago. Since my spellsword doesn't use a shield or a second weapon, there was one time he was carrying a torch left-handed, and an enemy jumped in front of him. I instinctively blocked with the torch (without thinking) and hey! It worked! I didn't know we can light enemies on fire, though. I'll have to try that.

I remembered the other thing I forgot yesterday. kvleft.gif If you stand there and activate a locked door over and over, without trying to actually pick it, and a guard happens to be nearby, the guard will eventually say something like

"Seems that door is locked. Perhaps you'd better wait until the shop opens".

Something like that. wink.gif Thought that was kinda neat.

Posted by: King Coin Jul 31 2012, 07:33 PM

Lol I think I've heard that before!

I learned that Legion and Stormcloak troops can take over forts, even if you haven’t started the Civil War quests yet. That was a nice surprise.

I learned that a few months ago. One of my characters cleared the bandits out of Fort Neugrad. When she went back a few days later, it was filled with Imperials. I remember thinking WTF? I wantz mah money for that Tullius! biggrin.gif

YES. I learned this the first week actually, when the Imperials took over Fort Greymoor (near Whiterun) several days after Thor a'Zaene plundered the place. But I assumed this is the only instance of such a thing happeneing in the game.

But not long ago, Khahkhayre cleared out one of Skyrim's tougher forts....Fort Kastov I think my map says. This is a fort Claire Voyance and Crystal Beth were both not adept enough to take on, there's an uber-wizard standing guard outside. And lo! Stormcloaks took over this fort. It was a shock to see an entire group of them just loitering around the outside and stuff.

The Stormcloaks didn't mind that Khahkhayre went inside the fort, either. They let him walk in there, no problem, even though he's not joined up with their side. But if he goes inside Fort Greymoor, the Imperials will warn him. "I'm warning you". They don't want outsiders in their fort!

I was heading through Dragon Bridge in the direction of Hag's End (Word 'o' Poweeeerrrrrr!!! search) and I heard a Dragon roar overhead...So I located it...Headed back into town whilst waiting the music to start and the flames and the more roaring...And it never happened...

The only thing I could think of was that it was Oodahving!...

I have never seen him roaming about before...Bless him...Awwww!! *Tickles chin*...

Oh, this is the first time I've had the Thu'um Master trophy...(learn one word of all shouts)...Does that count?... biggrin.gif ...

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 26 2012, 05:05 PM

From what I have read not all dragons you encounter in the wild are hostile. Some will just fly around up high and never come near the ground to attack. So it could have been one of those.

Awwww... sad.gif ...

Balls...

Posted by: Lady Saga Aug 26 2012, 07:14 PM

Well, that is something new for McB, eh? Dragons that mind their own, that is.

My new thing of the day: my spellsword was walking around in Riften and a guard said "You're like me, huh? You don't fancy carrying around any of those 2-handed weapons, eh?" Something like that.

That may sound pretty simple, but I've never heard anyone say that before. smile.gif

I get that quite a lot, sometimes from guards who do actually have a 2-handed weapon on their back blink.gif

One I heard the other day: "Hail summoner, conjure me up a warm bed would you?"

Weird. It's weird because I have yet to play a character who uses a 2-handed weapon at all in Skyrim. You'd think I would have heard that one before

QUOTE

Ha ha. laugh.gif Yea, that's a good one. I also like "You like mixing potions, eh? Why don't you mix me up a batch of mead?"

I'm getting that wrong...it's something like that.

Close enough. I haven't heard some of those other ones. smile.gif

Keep forgetting to say...

I did that Potema quest the other day...The second one where they send for you to go kick her ar$e...Aaamywho...You have to go see a priest called Styrr before you leave...He gives you the Turn Undead spell to help with the Draugr...And it turns up on the side "You have learnt the Turn Undead spell" or something...

So we go to the place...And J'zargo starts with the Turn Undead!...Up until that quest it's always been with the lightning...And now, since we did that quest, he's been all Turn Undead...Aaand, he's been using some of the other spells he's got in his arsenal more...

I love that...NPC progressions...Love it!!... biggrin.gif ...

"You wear the armor of a mercenary, now there's the life."

Ulfdis just heard this from a town guard, while wearing banded iron armor and a banded iron shield. It is the first time I can recall hearing it.

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 5 2012, 12:34 PM

Coool. I've never heard that one.

I'm noticing lots of New Things since installing Hearthfire. It's really neat how subtly these show up, and even though this the spoilers section, i won't any spoilers. smile.gif

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 12 2012, 04:30 PM

So I found this the other day...

IPB Image

Look closely. There's a dead dragonfly (dartwing I think they're called) in that spider web. Kinda neat.

Posted by: King Coin Sep 12 2012, 05:20 PM

I've never seen that before! Cool!

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 12 2012, 06:30 PM

I never noticed that before either. Is that in Bleak Falls Barrow?

Posted by: McBadgere Sep 13 2012, 01:02 PM

I was heading through Riverwood t'other day and it got attacked by an Ancient Dragon™...

Sooo, there's us Dragonborn-Knighty types...Along with multitudinous Guardy types...A dog...Aaaaand two women in lovely dresses with small daggers...*Runs hand down face*...

Sooo, the two lovely corpses of Gurdur and Sigurd(?), and one dragon skeleton lie in the road...

Up runs a small child who then falls to his knees and wails in the sort of "Noooooo!! Whyyyyy?!!" type of thing...

I've never seen that before...

Oh, and the dog ran around barking inside the ribs of the dragon...That made me laugh...

The other bit didn't btw...I felt bad...

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 13 2012, 01:24 PM

,Ahhh man, that would kill me, seeing a child run up and wail like that. I have yet to see any children outside of towns and villages, actually.

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Sep 12 2012, 01:30 PM) *

I'm pretty sure it was in http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dustman%27s_Cairn, the place where we first go in with Farkas early in the Companions questline. If I touched the spider web, the dartwing would move, too!

Argh, that would be little Frodnar the prankster and aspiring Stormcloak. Both Riverwood kids lost their moms in that fight. kvleft.gif

Funny about the dog, though.

I just figured out how to add NPCs to the presets. Turns out is very simple. Find the NPC you want in the CK, left click on them and make a duplicate. Then open up the Race window for the NPC, and go to the preset section (you have to use a radio button to select between male and female presets). Then go back to the Actors, pick you duplicated NPC, and drag and drop it into the Race Preset field.

It is important to only do this to a duplicate because as soon as you drop it in the Presets, it removes the NPC from the game. So it is very easy to break the game if you are not careful.

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 13 2012, 11:25 PM

Wow, that soudns fun, SubRosa! I hear skyrim is tougher to mod than Oblivion.

So my new thing of the day is: I just picked a lock from horseback. . I tried picking the lock on the giant gate that leads into Helgen without dismounting my horse .. and it worked!

Posted by: McBadgere Sep 16 2012, 11:01 AM

Ressurection!!...

In th'daughter's game we have the most incredible return...One which should please DE no end!...

Skjor's back!!...

It's been soooo long since she did the Companions quest, but she went looking in Jorrvaskr for Ria to be a follower...And up pops old grumpy-chops himself!...Hell of a shock!!...And she went back today and he's still there...

Soooo, you save Sovengard and suddenly everyone's back...Next it'll be old Whitemane... biggrin.gif ...

---------------------------

Oh, heard a bunch of new speech things meself lately, but they're unlikely to be DLC related, just I've never heard them before...My newest one is ('cause I'm trying to pickpocket someone) "You're a terrible sneak lad, can see you a mile off" or somesuch... biggrin.gif ...

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 16 2012, 06:06 PM

Skjor coming back is weird. I have done enough of the Companions questline to know what happens to him early on.

I have never heard that last bit of dialogue either. But then I almost never play pickpockets either, so I probably just never had the chance to hear it as well.

Gunter Son of Talos II was recently in Fort Neugrad, which is full of bandits I think. Anyways, everything was going as usual when Gunter wound up walking into a room with a solitary bandit. This solitary bandit merely looked at Gunter, and did not get up (he was eating I think).

Gunter wound up attempting to speak to this guy, and only then did he attack. wacko.gif weird, huh?

There were a couple more bandits in another room who also did the same thing: merely sat there and stared at Gunter as he walked in. This time, he did not speak to them, but he did loot some of their stuff, right in front of them. Nothing!

As usual, I worked it into my roleplay. These bandits were "friendly" with the invader who came in and took their stuff. They seemed to rather he take their things, and leave them alone, than wind up dead.

Gunter let those two live.

Posted by: Grits Sep 21 2012, 02:06 PM

From a guard: Don't cross me, elf. dry.gif

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 21 2012, 02:56 PM

I get that one all the time in my games. It is still more cordial than the guards in Morrowind: "We're watching you scum!" biggrin.gif

The one that always makes me laugh is when a shopkeeper or smith says "What do you want, little elf?" It always seems to happen when I am playing an Altmer, so I am taller than they are.

Posted by: Lady Saga Sep 23 2012, 05:19 AM

Today Gunter was walking on a road which sloped downwards. A big hill; the one that leads east (kinda east from Valtheim Towers). As he walked, I heard a noise come up from behind; it sounded like a footstep.

He turns around, expecting an enemy. But no, it's a dead Alchemist, sliding head-first down the road! Alchemists are friendly to us, which means he must have encountered an enemy nearby. But as I looked around, there was nothing. It was if the Alchemist had fallen from the sky.

Chocolate!! When you first meet the Dark Brotherhood, Babette tells a story about a candy store and chocolate. I didn’t get exactly what was said. The Girl was playing her thief/assassin/adoptive mom character and I wasn’t paying close attention. But I heard the important part: Skyrim has chocolate!! biggrin.gif

After playing more, Kharjo is definitely not a dog person. Meeko barks a lot and Kharjo does not like it.

Posted by: Grits Oct 11 2012, 01:40 AM

You have to join the DB to hear the line. Probably a mistake by the writer since it’s NOWHERE else, but it’s in the game now!! laugh.gif

I got a kick out of that wine. I wonder what happened to Tamika’s?

Posted by: Lady Saga Oct 11 2012, 11:16 PM

Tamika's hasn't got the proper distribution licensing yet to effectively invade Skyrim with their product.

My new thing of the day: did you know creatures can follow us into establishments? Apparently they can, albeit rarely. My newest character was fighting a couple of Sabercats in the villlage of Winterhold. The guards and a couple ordinary town NPCs joined in. At some point, Skank ran into the general good store, and one of the sabercats actually followed her! Freaked me out... all the sudden there was this BIG cat right in the middle of the store

The lady who says "I have to sell whatever I can, just to get by"... stood behind her counter the entire time, while the cat went after my character. Thankfully, the cat must have been pretty weak at the point, because it died soon after its store invasion. But what a freaky thing! I never seen that happen before...

Today Rowan and her man Vorstag were in Windhelm, so they stopped in at the Candlehearth Hall for a meal and one night’s stay. The bard played a song I have never heard before. “Tale of the Tongues,” I looked it up. Obviously Rowan had never heard it either. She just stood there listening in complete awe. She is an Imperial Dragonborn who recently met the Tongues in the song, so it was particularly cool to realize that she had become part of Nord culture as well as Tamriel’s history. Goosebumps. smile.gif

Posted by: SubRosa Oct 27 2012, 08:47 PM

I have never hear The Tale of the Tongues either. Sounds like it is about lesbian sex too... Maybe it is only unlocked after you progress to a certain point in the main quest?

Wow. 2 bandit outlaws and a bandit chief attacked Haaf-Mersey as he left his own house! Lucia was sitting outside under a tree, and my character was walking up to say goodbye, when these 3 showed up! I didn't expect that. I didn't know anything would attack Lakeview Manor, not with Lucia around.

Needless to say, my crusader sent her back inside!

Posted by: SubRosa Nov 18 2012, 11:31 PM

Flavia had that happen at Lakeview as well. Although it was before she adopted Lucia.

I just had a new thing. A Student came up to Amaterasu and asked her to help teach him Wards. So she did, and he went off on his way to join the College of Winterhold.

OH wow. Haven't seen that one yet!!

Here's another one, and I'm assuming you all have already seen this one: I liked it when Haaf-Mersey came home with Marcurio from Shriekwind Bastion, and Lucia greeted him as usual, but then asked for some gold, just the way kids usually do it! huh.gif And then I was further shocked that the game gave me like 6 or 7 different choices: 5 gold, 25, 50, and 100, no gold, "go away"... I think that's what the choices were. 100 just seemed too much, I think he gave her 50.

I wanna try 5 next time, see if she calls Haaf-Mersey a cheapskate in so many words!.

Posted by: SubRosa Nov 30 2012, 07:55 PM

I think everyone knows that Helgen restocks with bandits after a while. What I never knew until yesterday was that this does not just include the exterior, but also the inside of Helgen Keep. The bandits go down all through the place, and even repaired the bridge that gets knocked out by rocks after you and Hadlof go though it. The only place they did not get to is the room with the spiders. Oh, and the sleepy bear moved out.

Posted by: Lady Saga Dec 1 2012, 11:21 PM

WHAT? Lol it's been awhile. I've been in Helgen Keep after the fact, I think I remember coming up against groups of enemies down there: I thought I had ran into either Stormcloaks or Imperials, though. Not bandits.

Then again, my memory sucks. Could be that I did run into bandits in the Keep, but I later on my burnt-out brain was remembering something else. Anyways this is good news. I've always enjoyed fighting NPCs the most. Stalking them out of Helgen Keep should be lots of fun. with all its rooms and corridors and caves.

EDTI: I mean edit. smile.gif Another thing (although this isn't so new for me) is the bandits in Helgen also clear out the rubble which blocks us from climbing to the very top of the tower (tallest one we can climb, that is). In the Tutorial, we can't climb all the way to the top, we are forced must jump from the tower to the burning house below, because the dragon blocks the stairs after blowing out the wall.

Being a bandit isn't always skooma sucking and drunken raids against innocent travelers then. They actually are industrious and have chores at times.

Kind of a chain-reaction of events. cool.gif

I've been noticing a lot of little things since I've started my character over. One was a surprise decapitation kill move. She did this whirl and off goes the bandit's head.

Posted by: Grits Dec 15 2012, 05:05 PM

Last night The Girl’s character went through Bleak Falls Barrow. I thought I had seen everything that place has to offer. But no.

Remember the part in the middle where it’s open to the sky with a bridge and waterfall? You can walk down to the bottom and loot some skeevers, skeletons, and a chest after you kill the Frost troll (or draugr) on the bridge.

Well The Girl’s character is traveling with Serana. I was writing Christmas cards and not really paying attention since I thought I’d seen it all. Until The Girl said, “Who’s Thomas?”

I looked up ready to call B.S. and saw a bandit-looking resurrected guy named Serana’s Thomas. That’s funny, there are no bandits anywhere near that part of the barrow. I know because I’ve seen it all. But there he was.

So I said, “Wait until he turns to ash. Maybe he’ll have a note.”

He did have a note. Apparently Thomas fell down into the barrow from out on the mountainside, and his body was on some ledge up above that I would never have seen without a necromancer’s assistance. Something new in Bleak Falls Barrow. Awesome. smile.gif

Heh heh this is one little detail I did come across a long time ago, probably over a year ago. I've been thru BFB way too many times, i guess. I haven't tried resurrecting the guy, though.

Cheers

HOly compassion! I know this is the Spoilers section, but you'll have to highlight the text below to read this one. It's HEARTHFIRE stuff.

So I've got some time to game this afternoon. Lord Haaf-Mersey comes home and Lucia says "I've found a pet, can I keep him?" OMG it's a rabbit! It's soo cool. Follows her around the house. She also plays with it, lies on the floor to look into the rabbit's eyes. biggrin.gif Just like kids usually do. smile.gif

EDIT: I gotta see if I can find a dog that'll follow LHM home at some poitn!

I've heard of less desirable critters being brought home.

Supposedly there's a giant something in every Elder Scrolls game. It's their thing, I guess?

I think that giant mudcrab is a quest location. It's a fun find even when not on the quest. smile.gif

Watching my kids play Skyrim is hilarious. I’m seeing all kinds of funny. Today’s quote from a guard: You know, I could have gone into that sanctuary, killed all those Dark Brotherhood types. But I was… sick that day.

Also last night I saw Argis the Bulwark dual wielding staves! Argis the battlemage! It was awesome. He also used a staff and blade as well as blade and shield. I didn’t see him using a staff and shield, but I was making cookies while watching and might have missed it.

I have seen this happen long ago wtih one of mine; I think it was Crystal Beth on the PS3. She was running towards some fort, and she did this roll somehow. And I could never get it to happen again yet I know what I saw!

I think I read about it. It's a glitch if I'm not mistaken. It might have something to do with one of the perks we can choose for Stealth. I think. I dunno, I'll have to see if I can find some literature on this one.

The perk is called " Execution Roll" or something like that. It's a stealth perk, and to do it you need to press the sprint button while sneaking.

It is a glitch. When in sneak mode, if you sheath your sword then press sprint, you can do the roll.

Well... I wonder if it is worth trying to take advantage of then. Usually sheathing a blade is a bad thing though...

It is kind of silly that I never noticed this until now, considering all of the characters I have created. But I just found a campsite that I never paid any attention to before. It is about a hundred feet from the cave you exit from after escaping Helgen, to the left of the path. There is a little tent, a campfire, a cooking pot, and a woodpile. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/Skyrim/Skyrim556.jpg I guess I was always too busy talking to Ralof and picking flowers to notice it before.

Can someone verify if that is in vanilla Skyrim? I wonder if it was added by the Alternate Start mod I had on.

Posted by: Lady Saga Dec 24 2012, 01:37 PM

Ha ha picking flowers. biggrin.gif That's usually me, too. Nearly get killed by a dragon? Barely escape with one's life? Ha, let's pick some flowers.

I think that could be a hunter's camp. I am not entirely sure if that's a vanilla or modded difference, but now that you've brought that up I'll be looking for that. Hunters often leave their camps (as you may know) during the day, making it seem as if there's nobody there. Maybe try going back there at night, see if there's anybody there.

Does that camp have a name?

Posted by: SubRosa Dec 24 2012, 06:29 PM

I did some testing, and it is added by the Alternate Start - Live Another Life mod. I have no idea why. Maybe it is one of the alternate start locations?

Posted by: King Coin Dec 24 2012, 06:32 PM

I can definitely see that. That mod is intriguing, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it. Aravi is supposed to the the Dragonborn after all.

Posted by: SubRosa Dec 24 2012, 08:22 PM

As I understand it, you can still start the main quest any time you want. I think you just have to go to Helgen.

The guards actually have a rather large (for TES) vocabulary of things to say, unlike the bulk of townspeople. If I hear that lady say "Short spoons, handsome man in Falkreath" one more time.....panic.gif

There's this attitude some non-Skyrim gamers have that all guards say is "arrow to the knee", but I rarely hear that line. They actually have dozens of things to day, and some of them are location-specific.

Apparently they said it so much when the game came out they had to patch it to where their other dialogue came up more.

There was one mod, I think it was a PC mod, where if you actually DID get an arrow to the knee, a menu screen would pop up and say "You took an arrow to the knee. You can no longer adventure. What would you like to be?" and the choices were town guard, shopkeeper or beggar XD

Seconded; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlC6Z0iRoOA of a video basically encapsulates the response I always want to give them. They may have been adventurers, but they were not adventurers like me!

The plus side of that line did result in my friend Tim making an amazing 'Whiterun Guard with an Arrow in his Knee' costume a while back.

The other day I found an awesome easter egg from 'Fall of the Space Core', the silly piece of mini-DLC you got to celebrate the release of the Steam Workshop, on one of the loading screens; just the Space Core itself with the line; 'Space is the thing you see above Tamriel when you walk around at night looking upwards.' For a Portal 2 fan like me, that line was an absolute joy.

SPEW! Really have to assume that a single-handed taking over of Skyrim would be an easy day's work, all you need is a handfull of arrows and a bow.

Arrows and bows? I can summon a dragon with my voice, the dragonborn doesn't need to give arrow-related knee injuries. -gets killed by forsworn- DAMN! I should have at least used a crossbow. If you think an arrow to the knee is bad, imagine a bolt from a crossbow to the knee -shudders-

I ran into it on my first playthrough (before my brother took my xbox apart) but don't remember anything about it. I just avoided the whirly lights lol.

Sometimes if you talk to tolfdir, he will tell you that one of those things has opened up somewhere and that you need to close it. When you do close it and you return to him, you will get paid.

Something about modding. It was a 60 GB Xbox with Wifi. I paid $200 for it (refurbished) and cried when he did that. That was my own money. I had never bought a gaming console with my own money before. So you know how he repaid me? He got his dad to get me a brand new...4 GB xbox. So...now I have to put all of my games on flashdrives or delete games. I took my harddrive with me though. I think. My husband insists that my brother sold it to HIS brother for 5 bucks.

You know...my middle brother is kind of a douche.

Ouch that hurts. The fact that he gave you a lesser model back than you started with is even worse than what he did in the first place. Christ.

On the other hand, this story has taught me a lesson. I've been tempted to mess with my game in the past, I know how to do it. But there's no way I'm gonna risk destroying my box, not after reading that story! sheesh!

I tried following him too once(never could find him after that one time) but couldn't keep up. Supposedly he leads you to treasure.

So these 3 'soldiers' came up to Lord Haaf-Mersey as he wandered thru some outback area. They demanded 100 gold, which he refused to pay. He fought and rid them. Thta is not the "new thing" I am reporting. I have seen these soldiers at least 6 or 7 times with other chars. now.

I've never noticed before: once he went back to the initial area where the 'soldiers' were, he found three dead Imperial soldiers on the ground, They had been stripped of their armor! It was as if they had been attacked by the 'soldiers', lost the fight, and the 'soldiers' now took their stuff!

That's what I love about this game. Yeah, its quest lines are shorter, and many people think they're shallow, but Skyrim's depth (to me) is all the little stories that happen here and there; how there's a lot of cause and effect being portratyed. This stuff is so easy to miss!

If you catch them later on, they have mismatched armor.

The little quests make the game for me. Yeah, ending the civil war/killing Alduin/learning the Thu'um is great, but those details are wonderful. Like the dead lovers at the camp? That broke my heart. Or the dead Breton girl who was robbed then tried to get revenge on the bandits who took her family heirloom? I loved it.

huh.gif YOu know what? I think your'e right. There was something "off" about what they were wearing, it didn't exactly look 100% like Imperial armor! Next time this happens I will see if I can remember to look at their armor.

Posted by: SubRosa Jan 15 2013, 03:39 AM

I remember the first time I ran into those guys. I was immediately suspicious because the leader was an orc. How many orc legionaries have you seen in Skyrim or Oblivion? None. The in-game books claim that many orcs serve in the legion, but we never see a single one in the games. So my spidey sense was tingling. Then he start stumbling over his words "yeah, a toll, yeah, you gotta pay us." And that was all I needed to pull out my weapon and get ready for a brawl!

Wait.

_____

I have one from a few weeks ago:

Hrungnir rides into Riverwood after a day spent babysitting helping that Orc chief in Largashbur. It’s what the film people call magic hour, complete with roseate sky and barely visible moons rising. He is wearing Volendrung on his back, but his plate armor is dented, his face is traveled-stained, and all he wants to do is sell off his loot to Lucan Valerius and disappear into a tankard of mead. As he dismounts one of the guards that now patrols Riverwood walks up and says (in a voice filled with reverence):

“That is one... big hammer!”

Now I don’t often catch myself talking back to the game, but I couldn’t help the ‘F***IN’ A!’ that escaped my mouth at that one.

Posted by: King Of Beasts Jan 18 2013, 04:29 AM

Face it Elizabeth Hollow, that was obviously a rare species of horker. -puts scientist glasses on- In fact, here's the info...

Scientific Name: Volantes Horkerrus

Slang Name: Flying Horker

Species Group: Arctocephalus Austrailus

Description: A wingless, flightless horker that may randomly take to the skies and fall to it's death. Despite its name it can't fly, but magical forces in its adrenal glands may be what cause it to be able to launch itself up into the air.

Diet: An elf named Kayla. May attempt to attack her from the air, but due to its inability to fly, it will most likely land in front if it's prey and die.

Ok, how would you scold a horker?
Tusk, tusk.

Where did the horker go on vacation?
Tuscany.

What's grey and falling outside the Nightgate Inn?
The tusk fairy.

Want a horker joke? Ok:

A Nord and his pet horker walk into a tavern (now stop me if you've heard this one).
It's only about five bells, but they're ready for a good night of drinking.
They start off slowly, watching a brawl, drinking some ale, eating venison chops.
As the night moves on they switch to tankards of mead, knocking them back, one after the other.
Finally, the Nord says: "Ok (hic), one more round, then I've (hic) really got to go."

They get set up and knock them back. Suddenly, the horker falls over ... dead.
The Nord tosses some coins on the table, grabs his axe, and starts to leave.
The tavern keeper points to the horker and says: "Hey, you can't just leave that lyin' here!"
The Nord turns, squints, shakes his head, squints again, and then replies:

"That's not a lion (hic), that's a horker!"

Don't blame me, blame Haelga. Nothing's ever been the same since I explored her room, some things are just too noteworthy to be left out of a fic.

Stallion Potion of Endurance; Horker Tusks with straps; not to mention the fish. The honey pot and comb, etc, etc, etc. But I digress.

PS - If you ever want to have the phrase "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" ruined for you, let me know. I Maxical can do it!

Sweet! I need to visit Solstheim one of these days. Still haven't done so,...

I just learned you can shieldbash with stuff that isn't a shield. Use one sword? Bash that stuff. Use a bow? Bash that guy away from your face. Have a torch out? SET SKEEVERS ON FIRE! cool.gif

And yeah, Solstheim's shores are a piece of beauty.

EDIT: Turns out the torch thing was in the second post. Ah well, still cool.

But it does beg the question: Why are you trying to sneak with a follower decked out in heavy armor? If I know I'm playing a stealth character then Lydia and the other housecarls are right up there next to Ahtar, Stenvar, and the Companions twins as characters I wouldn't dream of schlepping around.

My new thing of the day: we all know how we can't see through windows, right? But they do allow light to filter in from the outside?. Well I had no idea this light actually changes in real-time thoughout the day and night.

Mycharonna spent a few hours in Pinewatch (not waiting, but just standing there in real-time) and it was the first time I watched a 'sunset' from indoors, as the light coming through the windows went from deep orange to reddish to blue.

Lord Haaf-Mersey (my Crusader doing Dawngaurd as a vampire hunter) also found the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, by accident. It's in such an odd place for sure, one which is easily missed, even though it's so obvious.

LHM tried answering the question that the door asked. He got it wrong all three times.

But Harkon is more dangerous than you think. The character I used when I first did the quest was level 81. I was playing in easy, and I died three times smile.gif

O.O Oh. XD

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 27 2013, 06:38 PM

The only trouble Helregin had with Harkov was getting him to stand still long enough to paste him with her hammer. That and constantly having to pull out Auriel's Bow to blast off that force field he likes to hide behind. It was a long fight because he would not go mano-a-womano with me. But it was not that difficult.

You know those ruffians dressed in scavenged Legion armor who try to shake you down for 100 gold in random encounters? Well when that happened to my Imperial soldier she got a new (to me) conversational option.

Random Orc: That will be, uh, 100 gold. Pay up, citizen.

Prefect Rowan Varrus: I’m with the Imperial Legion, and I’m damn sure you’re not!

Woooo hoo! I’d do the whole Civil War questline just to get that line of dialog!! biggrin.gif

I think that def makes it worth joining the Legion just to hear it! (actually, Maxical was going to anyway - she just never got around to it).

It is not a new thing, but it just occurred to me today that every city which is in its own cell (i.e. that you have to go through a loading screen to get into the city), has a scripted scene that plays out the first time you enter. Whiterun has the Battleborn hiring Adrienne, Windhelm has the two drunks harassing the Dunmer, Markarth has the attempted assassination on whats-her-face, Riften has Mjoll and Mr. Friendzone talking about the Thieves Guild, Solitude has the execution.

Nah, she is never giving it up for Aerin. He's in the friendzone for life. If he was smart, he would move on to something he has a chance of tapping.

Ulfdis was standing in the middle of Dragonbridge when a guard walked by her and paused. "Heard there are wolves up north." He said, the moved on.

In all my time playing Skyrim, I have never once heard that line of dialogue. It was even better considering that I was playing Ulfdis.

Today (tonight, actually) I realized just how dynamic the "dynamic lighting" is in this game. A guard walked by Mycharonna in Whiterun. It was night and he was carrying a torch. I happened to be looking downwards into some water as he walked by, and for the first time noticed that the water was reflecting the torch's light in a different manner than the stone walkway was.

I am still amazed at how the light from torches and fires not only dynamically flickers and changes, but how the shadows they cast do the same in concert.

I just learned we can make previously improved armor & weapons stronger. In other words, I had no idea it's possible to make superior-strength items into exquisite-strength ones!

EDIT: a couple vampires attacked as LHM and Mjoll stepped outside of Lakeview. I noticed as the attack was going on that another NPC was fighting the vamps, but it wasn't Marcurio and it wasn't Mjoll the Lioness. Who the heck is that helping out?

Turns out it was the carriage driver! laugh.gif LHM has a permanent carriage located in front of the manor house. I had no idea the driver can get off his carriage and help out with fights.

viking.gif

EDIT 2 (I'm having a gaming marathon today!) You were right, Grits: followers do use generic potions. smile.gif I've been keeping track of this, Mjoll just drank 4 of her 8 minor health potions after a good fight.

Really?...You've never got to Epic and Legendary ones?...It does depend on your smithing level and the perks you've got, but yes...Another "interesting" fact about the smithing levelling...If you have a sword, say Dwarven longsword and keep improving it as you go up through the levels, it will do more damage than one which you just pick up and improve at said upper level, simply because it's had the added improvements as you go up through...

Also, I think there should be new states beyond Legendary...I've got some of that smithing enchanted armour and rings and stuff...And if you put one item on and improve, with some of them, if you put another item on, you can improve again, then again, and finally with the blacksmith's philter potion, you can do it again...

This is why J'zirlo's weapons and armour is rated so high...*Sighs* wub.gif ...I love Smithing... laugh.gif ...

That's going to be the one I do with the 1.9 Legendary perk reset thing...*Rubs hands with glee...No...Not the show...*...

Posted by: Lady Saga Mar 17 2013, 02:18 PM

laugh.gif Oh I knew weapons could be improved, but I didn't know an improved weapon could be improved again. I had assumed we only get one shot at it.

And yes, I am noticing in Haaf-Mersey's game that his improved weapons seem to be getting stronger than most of the standard enchanted weapons we can find. But I didn't know what you just said: that if we improve the same weapon over time, it winds up being stronger than a 'new' weapon we find and improve.

...phew...my head is spinning. wacko.gif

laugh.gif I have always wondered how five 1 pound iron ingots and three .1 pound leather strips make a suit of armor that weighs 30 pounds! whistling.gif

Posted by: jack cloudy Mar 17 2013, 09:44 PM

I saw the carriage driver jump off his bench once and run for Whiterun. I turned to follow but then some vampires showed up. Being a Dawnguard with overpowered flaming everything, I showed them the light naturally. I never did find out where the driver stopped running though and waiting didn't bring him back so I had to take the slow route to Riften. (For clarification. I'm using mods that make normal citizens run from dragons and vampires instead of boxing with them. Doesn't work for Adrienne though)

And something tiny I 'discovered' when I was making my new character concept for potential fanficcing. We all know captain blowhard who insists on getting her daily quota of executions despite not having any idea who you are and why you got picked up. (Seriously, they even know Lokir! But you're a big blank and almost feel like an afterthought.)

We also all know that she has different responses to the player's race. From casual racism (lizard, cat) to rather neutral stuff. What I didn't know was how pissed she gets if you're an Imperial. "Next, the renegade from Cyrodiil!" mad.gif I guess she doesn't like having 'her' kind help the Stormcloaks. It is a tiny detail and the captain vanishes from the game within two minutes, but I like that bit of character it gives her.
