I just learned of the passing, yesterday 21 Oct, of a conductor I greatly admired during my early years as a classical music listener: Bernard Haitink, 4 Mar 1929 - 21 Oct 2021. During the early to mid/late 1970s he was possibly my favorite conductor. I later switched my allegiance to more fiery conductors, but still value some of his interpretations. He had a long, active career, conducting until only a few years ago.

His late 60s / early 70s Philips recording of Mahler's 5th symphony, with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, introduced me to the piece. This video of its adagietto is a much more recent recording, but a fitting tribute:

Betty White passed today 31 Dec 2021, age 99. She and the year went together. I venture to say that one will be missed more than the other.

The Surviving Silent Film Actors roster is now reduced to a measly two, following the passing of Mildred Kornman on 21 Aug 2022, age 97.

Yes. I think he is the villain. I also think the filming (at least his part) is already done. Because I have seen pictures of him in the role. So I expect we will see him in that soon.

The losses that hit the hardest for me was Leonard Nemoy, James Horner, Meatloaf, Vangelis and Robin Williams. Paul Rubens I wasn't too big of a fan but I did enjoy watching Pee Wee's Playhouse. Still it sucks losing these legends as one day I'll wake up and most of the people from my youth will be gone .
