Wow, you picked a good place to guess. A place, where I've been rarely. IIRC, it's north of Smith Casey Garage, obscured by cliffs and thus very, very hard to spot.

It is the Skylines Flight 1981 wreck. Always a great place to find a fight. In some of my games it respawned npcs every time I walked near it, even if only a few hours had passed. A great way to farm experience points!

You're right.

There is always a battle between at least two sides at the crashed flight. Raiders vs. Ghouls, Scavengers vs Super Mutants, or any of the above vs Robots. You must have gotten there too late to participate, and just seen the aftermath.
