Chorrol.com _ Oblivion _ Your character(s) in Today's World

Posted by: Renee Jan 23 2024, 07:10 PM

We've got several folks playing Oblivion these days here at Chorrol: what would your characters do and be if they were here on Earth? I made a thread like this several years ago. So I will talk about my four active people now.

https://i.imgur.com/Zj6k1VT.jpg would be just what he is in Cyrodiil: a drug dealer, but not the sort we see nowadays; wearing hoodies and standing on some corner in the bad part of town. He'd wear nice clothes, spend money on BMW's and Benzes live in a nice (but nondescript) home in the suburbs, Tony Soprano-style. Or maybe he'd also have a corner apartment which overlooks the harbor. He makes a lot of money, but he also burns through it all just as quickly. But the thing is, all the money he makes doesn't require the danger of going into some holes, killing monsters.

He'd be a gambler (Arena in the game). Frequently he'd be seen in whatever casino is nearest. He never resorts to stealing, which even though that's a criminal activity, he does not see his 'trade' as being criminal. Maybe he'd be a pimp as well. 🦯 👒

He'd have a rap sheet, as occasionally he does get caught. emot-ninja1.gif There are no lawyers in Cyrodiil, but he'd take full advantage of lawyers if he lived here on Earth for sure! Money's no object. Therefore, he'd only do as minimal time in jail as possible.

He'd carry a gun, too. https://i.imgur.com/LrUVji6.jpg, if need be.

Finally, https://i.imgur.com/yHGMPnm.jpg. Unlike some of my others, Snaaty hasn't got any qualms about sharing his life with that special someone. It's just that so far, he hasn't met her yet. Not long-term, anyway.

---------------------

https://i.imgur.com/S9uA4CQ.jpg, aka Aerin of Valenwood, could be anything from a park ranger to a hunter to a botanist. Whatever she'd be, https://i.imgur.com/EHOWGVJ.jpg. Living off the land, though she's not adverse to dealing with civilization occasionally for supplies and such.

https://i.imgur.com/ReBv42t.jpg, it's such an ingrained facet of her everyday life. https://i.imgur.com/wr91f56.jpg. She'd be adept at horse riding, but would also own some sort of off-road vehicle like a Jeep or a pickup truck.

https://i.imgur.com/Rr4AX8i.jpg? There we go.

-----------------------------------

https://i.imgur.com/xsMl8T8.jpg would be in the military for sure. But she'd also be heavily religious. Probably Christian, as she's a devout follower of The Nine in Tamriel. As a crusader (Paladin) in the world of Cyrodiil, https://i.imgur.com/Rt4SYKD.jpg, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild (though she doesn't do their quests) but also she's got a personal vendetta against criminals and lowlifes. Anybody non-righteous, who attacks her or ordinary citizenry first, https://i.imgur.com/9tGZJos.jpg. viking.gif

https://i.imgur.com/rw7Bv6w.jpg - Based in spirit on our Joan of Arc, https://i.imgur.com/Iz2teYs.jpg.

I think she'd be my greatest candidate for timelessness as well. Like, https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/Joan_of_Arc_miniature_graded.jpg as she would in our 21st Century world.

----------------

https://i.imgur.com/Yuitvpx.jpg is the hardest to determine, I think. Hmm. https://i.imgur.com/VMt6tTN.jpg. Sort of larger than life. As the granddaughter of the https://i.imgur.com/0vC0ffP.jpg, saving the world is in RG3's genes, although there isn't much for her to save in Fourth Era Cyrodiil. bigsmile.gif

Like Joan, https://i.imgur.com/Pwlkgp5.jpg, though she's not nearly as devout. She sees The Gods in a "if you can help me, I'll do X" sort of way, but she doesn't just devote her entire life like Joan does.

https://i.imgur.com/nDbnl52.jpg.

https://i.imgur.com/KZmMmb9.jpg. Rarely does things alone. She enjoys doing things to benefit https://i.imgur.com/M9ReFJD.jpg.

https://i.imgur.com/AWDXFO7.jpg, picking them carefully as she moves along.

https://i.imgur.com/0dR6CdB.jpg which occasionally borders on more than friends, though nobody knows for sure.

I'm having a hard time imagining my Orcs in real life. Maybe they'd become dentists?

Posted by: Renee Jan 23 2024, 07:19 PM

Ha yeah. Orcs, and beastfolk!

Posted by: Lena Wolf Jan 23 2024, 08:30 PM

Hmm... It's a kind of a reverse question for me. My characters are already based on real people... ohmy.gif And not just Lena, also others. Yes, they do things that Bethesda prescribed them to do sometimes, but they also do other things, and their attitudes are all their own. For me it is rather what would these real people do if they found themselves in Tamriel or one of the other realms in my stories.

Ah yes, that is true. I know Lucien has some relevance to your man. smile.gif You can go the opposite direction if you want, I'm curious either way!

Really curious what Lothran would be, too.

I am in much the same boat as Lena. My characters these days started out as literary characters in my superhero fiction. Where they already have ordinary lives to counter their cape sides. https://i.imgur.com/UNLFdwQ.jpg is a writer and podcaster. https://i.imgur.com/VNHnwqo.jpg is an inventor. https://i.imgur.com/Xnwf2RB.jpgis a coder. https://i.imgur.com/jCcUwB3.jpg is, well, lots of things. Nurse, teacher, writer on witchcraft, spy, soldier, etc...

Going farther back, there is https://i.imgur.com/TSro57I.jpg. She would probably be a medical examiner, or a funeral home director. She is immortal, so like Blood Raven she by necessity has to go through multiple 'lives'.

https://i.imgur.com/PJwYyd8.jpg would be a park ranger. Maybe a biologist working with the forestry service.

https://i.imgur.com/vqKyWat.jpg would be what she always is: a mad scientist, cannibal, serial killer.

https://i.imgur.com/Xa6BhFS.jpg would likewise be what she is: a sniper. I don't see her wanting to be a cop or in the military. She would not like people giving her orders. She likes being her own boss. So maybe she would own and run a gun range, and compete in the Olympics.

Well, not much call for a mystic archer around these parts so Buffy would likely be a medicine woman.

Interesting topic Renee. IRL, I have a few things in common with Lady Saga. I grew up with horses. When I was a kid, I could ride bareback with just a piece of bailing twine tied into a halter to control the horse. I would often take a piece of bailing twine into the fields and find one of our horses, and ride back to the barn to saddle up and put on a real bridle. Haven't ridden a horse in decades, but I miss them. I used to shoot bow and arrow recreationally and have owned a pickup, a full sized K5 Blazer, and a Jeep Wrangler (Rubicon), although now I just drive a Subaru. I have always been more comfortable outdoors somewhere out in the wilderness than in a City. In another life, I could see living off grid somewhere. But living off the land is tough, so I probably couldn't do that full time. I'm too much of a wimp, at least compared to the guy who got his hand stuck in a rock crevice when out climbing up a slot canyon by himself and after a week of being trapped when a boulder shifted pinning his hand, he had to cut his own arm off with a leatherman tool in order to free himself so he could hike out. Anytime I start thinking I am tough, I remember that guy and realize I ain't that tough.

My currect character, Reylan Jend is a bit of an athletic mage. Athletic in that he uses weapons and armor sometimes, and could probably take most pure mages in a straight up fight, but he knows he will never be able to take on a big Orc or Nord warrior in a straight up fight. His true skill lies in magic. And that's where he focuses most of his energy. He may start off a battle with his short sword, or even a bound weapon, but inevitably he gets hit a couple times, staggered and has to run to create some distance and then has to resort to summons and fireballs to finish the fight. His favorite combo is to summon a flame atronach and then pelt his enemy with fireballs that bounce harmlessly off his atronach while burning his foes and blasting them into the air when they run out of health. It's hard to relate such magic to the real world, so I have a hard time picturing where he would be in our world.

What my characters would do in our world, depends very much on the part of the world they'd live in. I think it would be the Middle East. Lucien and Hauk would be in the military or paramilitary, no surprises there. Lena probably also, in the medical corps - a healer with a blade. Vicente Valtieri would be a writer of gothic murder mysteries, and of course he'd need to do field research from time to time. wink.gif Geralt would still be fighting wraiths and ghosts - he'd practice psychiatry. Garrus Darelliun would be in private security to some sheikh or prince. Jowan... hmm... a blood mage... don't know. Whatever he'd do, he'd get himself into trouble sticking his neck out for his friends.

Nice, thanks for answers, Chorrol. This was fun.

Oh Lena's a healer for sure. 🍾 Buffy, too. I can see Buffy maybe also having archery as a hobby, unknowing that her alternate self in another realm lives by the bow!

Reyland, I don't really know yet, but it sounds like maybe he's so new, Turija. Maybe you don't know him well, yet.

Thanks for posting pics, S.Rosa. You mentioned Saya in the old thread too. Can't remember what you said, but it was something nefarious. emot-ninja1.gif

This is true. He's also the first character who has had a follower, actually he has his own posse, and he is still getting to know them, so that's been interesting for me to get to know all three of them as they get to know each other.

The Jandaga most likely would be an archeologist, paleontologist, historian or a combination of all three. He and his dedicated group researchers would spend much of their time excavating the ruins of ancient civilizations. Off time would be spent unwinding singing and dancing in discos and karaoke bars.

Indiana Jandaga! tongue.gif
