For me, its gotta be Snake Eater for metal gear solid 3.

it sets up the game perfectly, and is different from the first two game themes, since it is based in the sixties.

I am not sure of one single song. But I love the Mechwarrior 2 and Quake 2 soundtracks. When I used to gamemaster pen and paper RPGs, I used to play them for background music.

Still gotta be the gentle music of Morrowind for me. I still relax to the MW soundtrack on occasion to be honest. cool.gif

There is alot of great music in games. I really like the music of Morrowind and Oblivion, but I think i would say Nobuo Uematsu is my favorite composer. The Final Fantasy games have superb soundtracks, maybe especially number 6, I like the opera.

I also own the piano sheet music for FFVII and Chrono Trigger, it is my favorite music to play on the piano biggrin.gif .

edit: @Tellie: I also like Megadeth biggrin.gif

I really like the one from Peace Walker; Heaven's Divide.

Then there's the Halo theme (of any variation really), although I also have a big soft spot for Finish the Fight. It's just a good theme to start the last game of the trilogy off with.

Otherwise, uh... CASTLEVANIA, YEAH!

Halo has some great music, but I think Red Dead Redemption made the best use of music in a game that I have ever seen. This scene just blew me away when I played it. This song was played during the credits.

Many games have so good music. Deus Ex is still haunting me (in the good way smile.gif ) and I cannot get enough of Morrowinds and Oblivions music.

And when it comes to NES games, many of them had great music! My favorite game music from the NES library include Mega Man, Shadowgate, Bobble Bubble, Batman, Super Mario Bros 2, Wizards and Warriors and of course Legend of Zelda. I also have to mention Mr Gimmick but that game had a much more advanced sound chip than the rest of the games.

Road to Masyaf from Assassins Creed.

I remember her doing the Skyrim one, but the Assassin's Creed III song she did is amazing. Such a lovely voice!

The song that plays during "The Final Run" scene in the original Halo game still does it for me. I love that game so much.

From: The darkest pit of your soul. Hi there!

I can't help but feel slightly outraged that, so far on this thread, nobody has mentioned the absolutely wonderful Miracle of Sound, who's entire portfolio of music revolves around video games and a few movies. Criminal, I say, criminal! wink.gif

Aside from Miracle of Sound, my favourite videogame music tracks are:

Darren Korb's soundtrack for Bastion
Songs to Test By, composed by the Aperture Science Psychoacoustics Laboratory to serve as the soundtrack for Portal 2
Jack Wall's Suicide Mission, from Mass Effect 2
Michael McCann's Icarus, from the Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack
TEARS, by Health, from Max Payne 3's OST
Vortal Combat, from Half Life 2's soundtrack (Sector Sweep and Last Legs are pretty damn good too)
And special mention must, of course, go to Jeremy Soule's Dragonborn, a track so manly it will put hairs on your chest. tongue.gif

And yes, as you might have guessed, I own a lot of video game OSTs. That isn't even getting into the movie ones I have as well...

Edit: I also really, really love linking things too tongue.gif

"Kiss Me Sunlights" by Heart of Air, for the ZOE theme, and the theme music for Vagrant Story are 2 that spring immediately to mind.
Obv. there's "Auriel's Ascension" and "Minstrel's Lament" for you know what by you know who. These are two of the single most gorgeous pieces of music for anything ever and I would be quite happy to have them played at my funeral.
Repeatedly.

I have always been a huge fan of the Mechwarrior 2 Soundtrack. Back in my tabletop RPG days I used to play that for mood music while we gamed, along with the LOTR soundtacks, and other instrumental pieces.
