New Nightwish album coming in about a month. Two singles out right now; Noise, and Harvest. The latter has a folky feel to it and is sung by Troy, who usually does the pipe or whistle playing.

Also, if you have Google Play Music, they have their entire Discography on there now, going all the way back to Angels Fall First.

Khajiit hasn’t really kept up with them since Dark Passion Play. Their new stuff is good?

Big fan of Floor Jansen over Annette Olzon, as the former is a soprano. Also, The Greatest Show on Earth from the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful is not only my favorite Nightwish song, but may be my favorite song overall.

Haven't kept up since the End of an Era tour, specifically the DVD recorded session in Finland. Very emotional performance indeed. When Tarja solemnly started on Phantom of the Opera, not an eye was dry.

Birb should check out Floor's live rendition of Ghost Love Score. She owns it.

I'm glad you like her, Kane. Though I'm still in Camp Tarja. In Seoul. Listening to Blackpink.

Valentina Lisitsa has been working her way through the Beethoven piano sonatas, publishing the results at YouTube. Beethoven sonata fanboy that I am, I've watched 'em all soon after upload. Of recently uploads, one I return to time again is her rendition of the sonata No.9, Op14 No1. Fine sound (to the extent my ears can judge such things) and nice visuals.

This afternoon I did something I've not done since either early last year of the year before; listen to music over the living room audio system! I wanted to hear some Brautigam fortepiano performances of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which I own on SACD. Thing is, for whatever reason those discs don't come across well when played through my computer's audio system. So I retreated to the living room, fired up the A/V receiver and power amp (for fronts and center channel), placed disc 2 in my DVD/SACD player, retreated to the sofa, lie on my side, hit PLAY on the remote, and listened away.

With my head out of the speakers' 'sweet spot,' and one ear half buried in a pillow, I wasn't expecting sonic wonders. I didn't get them, but the disc sounded surprisingly listenable. It helps that the music is encoded for 5.0 channel playback (as well as 2-channel), giving decent depth even at my listening position. The fortepiano was a little too muffled for my liking, but then my ears are shot so that's unavoidable regardless of listening position.

DISC 2, BTW, houses sonatas No.4-7, early works I didn't become familiar with until buying this set the year before my hearing tanked. I like them quite a lot. For No.4-6, I know of no perform I like better than Brautigam's. (I do like some equally well.) As for No.7, there are at least two modern piano performance I prefer, likely more.

I might well do this again tomorrow, maybe one disc per day until all the sonatas are heard.
