Basically what it says in the title. What makes Morrowind so good? I'm not a big graphics guy but I would like some realism to the gamplay, and what I've heard about the plot and storyline is it's pretty good.

How much would the game be priced at now do you think?

One last question: Fallout 3 or Morrowind?

I checked for you. A dutch chain has the game of the year edition going for 3 euros. Unfortunately, it's a dutch chain which won't help unless you live in the netherlands or just across the border. Also, the chance of it actually being found on the racks is pretty much zero.

As for Morrowind itself, I wouldn't necessarily call it realistic. I think the big thing with Morrowind was the exotic landscape or more specifically, the exotic wildlife. There isn't a single animal (excluding perhaps a big beetle) that can be found in the real world, which gives the whole island a more alien feel.

There is also a much larger variety of spells, which is always nice. I'm talking about various forms of limited teleportation, levitation, dodge spells and a whole lot of others.

But realistic? No. The big difference you might notice right off the bat is that there are dice being rolled in the background. In other words, you can miss with your arrows and swords even if visually, the projectile/blade connected with the target.

Another factor is the lack of Magicka regeneration. It can be regenerated by sleeping (unless you're an Atronach), but while running around the only method of regeneration is through potions, which makes just about everyone half an Atronach birthsignwise. Also, you can completely fail your spells.

One realistic thing though is the way fatigue works. You can still run a marathon if you want to, but you won't be resting while running. That was just ridiculous in Oblivion. Although, this also means that unless you like to walk, you'll probably find yourself running into fights while totally exhausted.

Also, there is much less speech and a lot more text. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand people don't talk to each other so you won't get a laugh out of hilariously silly conversations. On the other hand, this means that when you actually step up to someone, you can get a bucketload of text on the history of the land, the culture etc.

As for Fallout 3 vs Morrowind, I can't run Fallout 3 so I don't have an opinion on it.

Depends if you want more roleplay or more action. For roleplay go for morrowind and if you want action you should go for fallout 3.

I say go for fallout 3.

Thanks you guys, that information was much needed.

Hmm. I think I'll have to go for Fallout 3 because I don't like the idea of the magicka regeneration in Morrowind (I thought it was slow in Oblivion, hence a lot backwards running just fireballing enemies during my lower-level days), and also it sounds like a pretty hard game to get.

Thanks again for your help biggrin.gif.

Alright sounds like you've already made your decision but I'll give you my opinion anyways. I own both, and recommend that you eventually buy both as well. Go to ebay, and you can find the GOTY edition of Morrowind for less than twenty dollars including shipping in most cases and at game stores near where I live I see copies of it all the time for under fifteen bucks.

I really enjoy both games but I rarely pick up either anymore...the reason being I've played them for so many hours there's just nothing I can do that I haven't already done. I believe both have alot of value in gameplay because you can play them for days without ever finishing everything there is to do. As for length, Morrowind is much longer and takes a long time to finish everything there is to do, while Fallout 3 is slightly shorter.

Fallout 3 is more action oriented, while Morrowind is more roleplay oriented. Story wise, Morrowind seems much more satisfying than fallout 3 for me at least. But combat in Fallout 3 is much better. Dialogue is all done via text in Morrowind, which may take some getting used to for some...and Fallout 3 has full spoken dialogue. Graphically, Fallout 3 wins hands down, but it has the advantage of being several years younger than Morrowind as well. Finally, if you're looking for realism, you won't like either game because they're both very abstract in most aspects. laugh.gif

eBay can probably get you a copy for five or less dollars. Or go to http://amazon.com and purchase Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition for what is it? $12.99? Very cheap and has tons of gameplay in it. Buy both.
