The Skyrim Alchemist’s Notebook

I know there are resources that list all kinds of multi-ingredient and multi-effect potions, but the fact is that most of them are not very useful to me. I mean how many human hearts and giant’s toes can a character really get their hands on? And I can never find the recipe I’m looking for in the lists of ways to use the single available sample of jarrin root. So here’s a place to record and share the potions and poisons that are useful to you.

Awesome. salute.gif Valrimor knows several two ingredient poisons, these are going to come in handy! cool.gif

I am so glad for this, Grits, very nice idea. Mycharonna does a lot of potion & poison making, I'll remember this thread anytime she comes up with a weird recipe.

Posted by: Grits May 23 2013, 11:35 AM

Oops, I found a mistake! The recipe for Fall Down and Die should use canis root instead of swamp fungal pod. Master alchemists with the Purity perk can use swamp fungal pod in that recipe, but others will provide their victim with a little restored health if they use the fungus. I corrected my post above. smile.gif

I’ve added a page to the notebook. These are in Jensa’s dragon slaying kit:

Dragon Hunter’s Elixir (Regenerate Health, Fortify Marksman): canis root, juniper berries, Namira’s rot

Blood of the Dov (Resist Fire, Resist Frost): fly amanita, snowberries, thistle branch

Dragon’s Bane Poison (Weakness to Fire, Weakness to Frost): elves ear, ice wrath teeth, bleeding crown

The Dragon’s Bane Poison is intended for a weapon enchanted with both fire and frost damage, though it would also work well for a dual-wielder with two different blades (one fire, one frost). It’s made of less common ingredients, so Jensa saves it for when she can get several shots into the beast before it flies away again.

Dragon Hunter’s Elixir was today’s discovery. I am super proud of that one. smile.gif

Awesome grits, this is such a cool thread.

I haven't been gaming as much (school is ending, and it's been sunny outside a lot) and when i have, I've mostly been with LHM. Someday soon I'll get the urge to return with Mycharonna .... maybe late at night when it's spooky!

Mycharonna will have no problem adding some recipes to this thread.

Posted by: King Coin May 24 2013, 01:42 AM

Aravi doesn't have a creative name for it, but one that she uses sometimes fortifies both one-handed and health. There are many different ways to come up with this one, but one of the easiest is:

EDIT: Wrote this down incorrectly.

Blue Mountian Flower
Glowing Mushroom Canis root
Hanging Moss

Posted by: Grits May 24 2013, 03:11 AM

That's a great one for an archer who uses one-handed as backup, KC. Things can go from bad to worse when they get cornered, especially before they've perked armsman.

Crook Tooth will really benefit from this one. Thank you! smile.gif

It's been so stormy here, Renee. Maybe it will drift north and you can play Mycharonna!

Posted by: Renee Gade IV May 24 2013, 11:48 PM

Hah! Got one for ya. Ready??? mellow.gif Mycharonna just made a poison, and it's called Harming's Way. I have no idea why she calls it this.

spider egg + nightshade + blisterwort = Decrease of target's Magicka regneration by 100% for 50 seconds. It also drains the target's Stamina by 30 points.

Mycharonna is out in the wilderness somewhere. If she were at her 'home" (Anise's Cabin) she'd be able to make this poison even stronger, perhaps. She's got several enchanted items she stashes at Anise's, all of which boost her Alchemy.

Posted by: Grits May 27 2013, 12:44 PM

Nice one, Renee! And who can figure the ways of Mycharonna's mind?

That poison will be handy against other mages and those bandits with the big hammers. Those guys hit hard.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 2 2013, 10:34 PM

Two more from Aravi:

Damage magicka regen and poison damage

nightshade
troll fat
spider egg

Poison and frenzy
blisterwort
nightshade
troll fat

Aravi is trying to find a poison with effects of Lingering Damage Magicka or Lingering Damage Stamina combined with a general effect to damage health in some way.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 9 2013, 03:30 AM

Lingering damage stamina and damage health:

Red mountain flower
Nightshade
Butterfly wing

Useful on guys with big weapons and heavy armor.

Posted by: Grits Jun 9 2013, 08:31 PM

Ooo that's a good one, KC. Something special for those Bandit Chiefs. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 9 2013, 09:57 PM

I gotta fond the recipe for my slow and magicka damage potion.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 14 2013, 06:22 AM

Lillith has created a couple of very potent potions, and the ingredients for each are somewhat difficult to acquire.

Resist Frost, Fire, and Lightning

Hawk beak
Snowberries
Dragon tongue

Fortify destruction and magicka
Restore magicka
Damage health

Ectoplasm
Glowing mushroom
Red mountain flower

Just need to find something for that last one to remove the damage health effect.

Posted by: Grits Jun 14 2013, 10:28 PM

Hmm, briar heart? But they're not easy to come by. Or get Jerric to make it. He took the Purity perk. biggrin.gif

Darnand is going to want nothing but hawk beaks for his birthday. That's a great potion!

Posted by: King Coin Jun 15 2013, 12:07 AM

Almost anything is easier to get than ectoplasm, and that might be the source of the damage health effect. I can't remember.

Posted by: Grits Jun 15 2013, 03:48 AM

Ectoplasm has all three of your positive effects plus damage health. Time for a ghost hunt. smile.gif

Now I'm thinking of a potion for mage battles. Fortify Destruction plus Resist Shock. (Darnand got in a bind with some storm mages at that fort on the way to Winterhold. He had no magicka to attack or heal, and he had a long way to run when the skeleton archers got behind him.) Glowing mushroom, nightshade, and snowberries. I have to try it and see if it works.

Posted by: Grits Jun 17 2013, 01:55 AM

The above potion does indeed work. (Oops! The one on the previous page.)

Wizard’s Dueling Cup (Fortify Destruction, Resist Shock): glowing mushroom, nightshade, snowberries

Here’s another one that Darnand recently whipped up in honor of Aravi. happy.gif Normally hawk feathers are a rare ingredient most useful for curing diseases, unless you’re a werewolf who has recently wiped out a fort full of Silver Hand. whistling.gif

The Wolf’s Reward (Fortify One-Handed, Fortify Light Armor): hawk feathers, skeever tail, bear claws

.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 17 2013, 02:21 AM

Both of those sound excellent potions! biggrin.gif Wow, both of them contain something that normally would go in a poison.

Posted by: Grits Jun 17 2013, 02:37 AM

Darnand has opened my eyes to other uses for some ingredients since he has no use for poison. I even tried to get him to carry a dagger coated with paralysis poison for emergencies, but it was no good. He has no objection to poison, he’s just sure that he’d end up sticking himself in the leg or something.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 17 2013, 03:04 AM

I've had that problem with my own caster. Aravi mostly made poisons so when it came to Lillith, I didn't know anything that would be useful to her.

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 21 2013, 02:48 AM

Damage Magicka regeneration, 100%- Bear claws and Blue Butterfly wings. I dunno if it's because Kayla's skill is where it is, but that's what I got, lol

Posted by: Grits Jun 21 2013, 12:33 PM

Nice. Shoot the mage, then swat at leisure. biggrin.gif

Posted by: King Coin Jun 21 2013, 02:01 PM

Do bear claws have a damage stamina? Might be able to make those mages not run as fast too.

Posted by: Grits Jun 21 2013, 02:07 PM

Blue butterfly wings do. Throw in a spider egg and you add Damage Stamina. goodjob.gif

Actually just the spider egg and blue butterfly wing might do both. I’d have to test it, though. I’ve been known to accidentally make a damaging potion. wacko.gif

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 21 2013, 04:15 PM

I do the same thing, Grits XD and I never record what I just did lol

QUOTE(King Coin @ Jun 21 2013, 08:01 AM) *

The only damage caused by Bear Claws is Damage Magicka Regen.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 27 2013, 04:37 PM

I could put that to use...

An addition from Aravi:

Damage stamina regeneration
Ravage health
Poison

Silverside perch
Skeever tail
Red mountain flower

And another version of Grits' Die slow can be made with a Deathbell and a River betty.

Posted by: King Coin Jun 28 2013, 06:51 PM

Fixed one of my previous recipes.

Posted by: King Coin Jul 8 2013, 05:04 AM

Salmon roe and Jazbay grapes result in a potion that fortifies both magicka regeneration and magicka.

Aravi doesn't have much in the way of alchemy skill or perks and the magicka fortification effect was more than +200. However, it was for only 5 seconds. Not very useful.

Posted by: King Coin Feb 15 2014, 08:04 PM

For:
Slow, remove stamina regen, and poison damage

Use:
deathbell, large antlers, skeever tail

Posted by: Rohirrim Feb 15 2014, 08:09 PM

Lavender and tundra cotton appear to make a magicka regen, but turn into a poison... sad.gif poor Encel

Posted by: Vital Feb 15 2014, 08:37 PM

Not really a useful recipe for combat but more of a levelling tip:

Don't waster all your useful and rare ingredients on weak potions for grinding. Blue butterfly wings and blue mountain flowers combine to make a poison of damage magicka regen and fortify conjuration that sells for 254 septims apiece (at a low level without any perks). They also level you really fast.

I make all my characters that practice alchemy learn as many ingredient effects and combinations as possible, but this is the potion I use for most of my grinding. I always keep these ingredients handy so that when I discover a few be effects or brew a new potion, I can then grind up to the next level.

Oh and Grits, you named my favorite poison in your first list: red mountain flower, salt and death bell which slows and does health damage. Usually a last resort for Ravos, when they are closing in on him and too powerful for his one-handed skill. I call it "GET OUT OF MY FACE YOU SLIMY B*****D!" laugh.gif

Posted by: Grits May 7 2014, 09:35 PM

Here’s one for archers and mages who need an occasional boost to Stamina and Two-Handed, like our characters who are using ghastley’s http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53344/ mod. It does a few other things too but those are the effects I was looking for. Lore purists are encouraged to think of it as "Bandit Chief's Brew." tongue.gif

Elixir of Hulking (Fortify Two-Handed, Regenerate Stamina): mora tapinella, fly amanita, dragon’s tongue

Posted by: King Coin May 8 2014, 12:33 AM

Aravi uses that slow one for trolls at the moment. They are just a bit too tough for her to get up close with her swords at the moment.

Trolls are how I measure the power of my characters. Once you can take on one of the regular black trolls, your character is getting strong. When they can kill the frost trolls, they are definitely powerful. When they can do that without breaking a sweat, they are at Uber Ph3r M3 n00bs! level. laugh.gif

Posted by: Renee Gade IV May 8 2014, 02:13 AM

King Coin: that Slow poison looks wicked! ..

I would add more to this thread but my main character atm (my witch) only dabbles in potion-making nowadays. She used to take it more seriously when she was a mortal and low-leveled.

Ravos one shots frost trolls when his bow has charge... mellow.gif

Maybe time to up the difficulty?

Posted by: ghastley May 8 2014, 02:20 PM

Follower, would you mind dealing with that frost troll? I'm having a "conversation" with this dragon. biggrin.gif

Genevieve leaves the trolls to Mjoll, it rhymes better that way. Mjoll is wearing legendary Daedric these days, and her Grimsever has been tempered up to one-shot-a-troll level.

Posted by: Grits Aug 22 2014, 01:47 PM

Here’s one for those thieves and scoundrels who spend their perks on Pickpocket and other mischief but still have to fight.

Rogue’s Tonic (Fortify One-Handed, Fortify Marksman): Hanging Moss, Juniper Berries, Canis Root.

Posted by: ghastley Aug 22 2014, 05:03 PM

Came back to this thread to find Elixir of Hulking for Elys. She's doing her Two-handed without the Hulk mod, but it will still be useful.

Hulk mod? blink.gif

I know Grits has played it (and found the bugs for me).

Posted by: Grits Aug 23 2014, 04:10 AM

Yep, it’s great fun! I have a Conjuror/Illusionist (Ninette the Breton) and a Conjuror/Archer (Bannor the Bosmer) who both have the Hulk ability. Or as they think of it, the gift of Hulking from Malacath. For both characters I’ve put most of their points into Magicka to make a good contrast between their usual methods of conflict resolution and their Hulked-out selves.

Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 23 2014, 08:42 PM

If I ever mod Fallout I think I'd definitely want the Hulk mod! devilindifferent.gif I'll just RP that it's some sort of mutation effect.

I want to add some things to this thread. Mycharonna doesn't use poison as much, unfortunately. Alchemy has become a secondary hobby for her nowadays.

Posted by: Grits Nov 18 2015, 02:11 PM

Here’s one just for roleplaying. Darnand has countered Jerric’s cookpot hangover remedy with an alchemical concoction of his own. Honeycomb, garlic, and mudcrab chitin produce a potion that resists poison and restores stamina. Jerric suggests that it might be better to drink it before a big night out. tongue.gif

Posted by: Renee Nov 19 2015, 01:13 AM

Roleplaying? Heck I might want one of those potions just for ME!
