In fact, one of the mods in the STEP Core is Live Another Life, an alternate start, and I found its extension that offers more starting options. So she has not even gone through that starting sequence we all know so well. Well, except maybe for Mirocu . . .

Once was enough.
Live Another Life is pretty good. I generally use the campsite in the wilderness. Kind of neat to see the dragon flying by as I'm putting on my face.

Level 35 going on 36 and still no dragon in the sky . . .

We finished the Dawnguard quest line, so that's done, and Serana's back at Fort Dawnguard. At some point I will go back and talk to her again, and maybe see if I can get the option to have her heal herself of vampirism. Not sure if that will come up again, and in any case Isran seems to have accepted her as part of the gang. So that's all well and good.

I made the mistake of "introducing" Vilja to Serana, and boy is she mean in her comments to Serana! I wish I had never done that! Sure, Vilja hates vampires, but Lady Cora has my approach when it comes to vampires - it's a case by case basis, especially considering the first vampire never asked for that "gift"! So chill, Vilja!

Anyway, Lady Cora now has 12 adopted cats, divided between four homes, and she loves coming home to their purring. She makes sure to pet every one of them when she enters the house, just to remind them that they belong there (not required by the mod, but just something she does). There's still a few stray cats to find out there in the world, so Lady Cora is still on the lookout for more. cool.gif

Right now we are working through the quest line for the mod Helgen Reborn. This is one of my favorite mods from Oldrim and I was happy to find that it has been ported to SE. It cleans up the ruins of Helgen, and makes it easier to navigate through the town from any of the gates (the gate from Falkreath road is normally closed off in the vanilla game, so you can't use the shorter route from Falkreath unless your mount is a mountain climber). This happens fairly early on in the quest line, so that's a godsend. You also get a keep as your personal home, and that's nice to have, too, though not really a necessary one with Lakeside so close. With Frostfall it's nice to pop in the restored town and have a place to warm up!

I've left both Vilja and Inigo at the Bards College in Solitude, since Vilja's next quest takes us to a site added by Helgen Reborn. Until we pick up that book, I figured it was time for just Lady Cora and Argis to spend time together training up guards and progressing the reconstruction of the town.

Oh, and Lady Cora finally found the Frost Spear spell that Valdimar has, and man, is it powerful! She really likes it and will look for a nice "skin" to have for her left hand for armor. Currently she is wearing light armor, and I can't remember if that is less of a hit to her magic skills compared to heavy armor (which doesn't suit her at all), but she has a few clothing options in stock that she can go back to. The nice thing about Frostfall is that she can take a clothing outfit and configure it to have the same warmth and coverage rating as her current armor (Ranger's Armor, another favorite that I converted to SE).

At this time, she is using the Mages Amulet and Circlet to boost her magicka, but it's now so high that we are thinking of finding jewelry to boost her health instead. And of course, she has the Bond of Matrimony on her left hand, thanks to Left Hand Rings Modified. She might make and enchant something in the meantime, but her enchanting is still low so that might not be as useful as something she might find in loot.

We still have so many unexplored places yet to enter, but since many of them are quest related we are careful about that. And the Dragon aeries that have the exterior dragon walls, we are looking for those and picking up those dragon shouts too.

Forgotten Vale was cool, and COLD! Lady Cora had to rely on her companions to do all the offensive since she had both hands full with warming spells just to keep going!

TL:DR: Still enjoying a dragon free Skyrim!

Rider, I enjoyed Dawnguard alot. One big reason is that you don't become the Boss at the end and they have ongoing quests for you to do. Having encountered several 'good' vampires, Buffy has moved beyond her instinctive kill reflex around vampires. She now recognizes, as Lady Cora does, that some of them can be trusted and, on rare occasions, even earn the title of friend. Though Serana is no Vilja or Inigo in terms of her AI as a companion, I was pleased to see Bethesda advance so far from what passed as companions before Dawnguard.

Serana was definitely my favorite companion in Skyrim. Though her reanimating every dead chicken does get tiresome. I found some mods that alter her behavior and combined them. One that stops her from making zombies all the time, and another that stops her from rushing into combat when you are in sneak mode.

+1. She was like a real person back in 2012 when one of my characters rescued her, the way she's constantly reacting to PC actions and game surroundings / terrain. She is somewhat based on Vilja, correct?

I'm sure Bethesda jealously noted how high Emma had raised the bar with Vilja in both Oblivion and Skyrim while they were working on the Dawnguard DLC. I have to believe Vilja influenced the leap forward Bethesda made with Serana.

Emma made several companions for Morrowind, each improved upon the previous. Constance is my favorite Emma companion for Morrowind. Vila in Oblivion was a big leap in scope. Another Vila like Morrowind companion is Julan the Ashlander companion for Morrowind. A lot of story and detail in that one too. Was Julan inspired by Emma's Vila also? Regardless Bethesda still has room for improvement.

I managed to start the MQ with Lady Cora yesterday, however we have hit what may be a game breaking bug. After turning in the Dragonstone to Farengar, Irileth is supposed to show up with news of a dragon attack. However, she never shows up, and Jarl Balgruuf just says "not now" when I try to talk to him. I tried the fixes listed at usep, but nothing seems to work. While I hear the new quest chime, and "Dragon Rising" displays across the screen like normal when a new quest starts, it does not show up in the Journal, and I suspect that is part of the problem.

It is frustrating and driving me crazy. I went back to previous saves and tried again and still no dice. Irileth isn't even present unless I console enable her. When I turn in the Dragonstone, and the new quest chime goes off, I go to talk to her and she says to talk to the Jarl. But when I go to the Jarl, he says "Not now."

I had to quit last night before my head started repeatedly meeting the desk.

EDIT: I did a little more research and realized that there is nothing wrong with my game - one of my mods - Not So Fast - Main Quest actually delays Irileth showing up to start Dragon Rising for six days after turning in the dragon stone to Farengar. D’oh! *facepalm*

Facepalm indeed! That said, this is good news since it means your game is working 'as intended'. You simply forgot how it was intended. tongue.gif

Well, I did a quest *unassociated with either Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild, which I have yet to do in Skyrim* that I have never, ever done before. Lost to the Ages. For some reason Alise and Phae never did that one in their playthroughs, and I suspect it’s because they HATE dwemer ruins. I shared that sentiment too, until now. Going through them with Lady Cora, I’m enjoying them even though we dislike the Falmer and mechanical constructs as much as the other two ladies did. But aside from the usual hostiles, we quite enjoy the Dwemer ruins. I suspect it’s because they are close to Nirn, only caves/caverns could be closer. And that makes Lady Cora quite comfortable.

So anyway, I was blown away by the quest, being led around by the ghost Katia and finding all the crystal shards and discovering these awesome underground places. Arkngthamz was incredible, but the last one just blew me away.

And it was a good way to kill time until Dragon Rising kicks in - I think I used up four or five days right there.

Maybe tomorrow we start killing dragonz. Maybe not. biggrin.gif

I really liked the ghost Katia, and that whole adventure. I really liked all the little micro earthquakes while exploring the underground ruins. Even though the Dwemer Forge really did not do anything for me in the end. There was nothing you could do with it I really cared for, except the circlet. But it is ugly, so I would never wear it. I eventually made a mod that replaced its model with one from a regular circlet. But even then, my characters rarely wear headgear.

But it was a fun ride getting there.

Well, yesterday we did start killing dragons. Just two, to start . . .

And Lady Cora experiences her first soul absorption. Kind of a weird experience, she thinks.

And what does Argis think of it? "They say a dragon attacked Helgen. Sounds like hogwash to me." This is after he helped me rebuild Helgen!

Then later on, as we were thinking about looking for a spot to pitch our tent, we came over the top of a mountain to find this magnificent specimen. Incidentally, this was the next to last dragon word wall Lady Cora needed to find in Skyrim. She managed to find all but two before Dragon Rising, and there is still the one in Solstheim.

And boy, was it an exhilarating fight! Sun going down, Big Boy zipping around pissed off that we got a good wallop on his behind before he knew we were there, and trying to get at us in that little cleft in the rocks. Argis was somewhere above us shooting off arrows, and Lady Cora was blasting Incendiary and Ice Spear at Big Boy every time he came to a hover. It was an awesome experience, and not one I've ever experienced before.

Oh, and Cats in Skyrim? Here is Lady Cora relaxing at home with two of her adopted strays, Cole (black one) and Marmalade. They're named after two Internet cats which I follow on Facebook. Then there's Posie, Butterfly, Dragon, Rory, Blue, Jasper, Cloud, Luther, Sabre, Flyhawk, and a few more. Yup, Lady Cora has the title Crazy Cat Lady!

So is it the corpus spongiosum that absorbs souls? wink.gif

And I bet that afterward a guard said: "What is it, dragons?"

Wow, I guess finding all the word walls before the dragons are around is a lot easier than doing so afterward.

Cora is the CrazyCatBorn.

Marmalade and Cole, good names for the cats. It's good to be able to relax in such a nice home after dealing with the dragons.

Warm-Waters is taking a break after another disaster at her museum (bit of a problem with the guards.) and has taken to the Solitude countryside to run an errand for a mage she'd met at the College. Something about finding her Khajiit friend who was looking into the theft of pages from an esoteric book the mage was studying.. she plans to check in on the Khajiit, then ready a short expedition to Solstheim. The Dagger of Barenziah's husband is around that island somewhere... Plus she needs to check in on her dear friend Lucien who wrote her weeks ago when all the trouble at the Museum started up.

Skyrim Season starts today! viking.gif

Loredas, late afternoon, 5th of Mid Year, Year 202 -- Lord Haaf Mersey returns to Riften, with Rayya the Overkiller at his side. The day is grey with clouds, but Riften's market remains busy and lively, as usual. The lord and Rayya walk to the house formerly occupied by Aerin, and store their things.

Haaf-Mersey has nothing pressing going on in his game these days, but it is fun returning to a familiar face from the past.
