Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ The gun thread

Posted by: mirocu Oct 28 2015, 04:54 PM

I have had guns for about fifteen years due to us having a plot of land on which to hunt for moose and deer. However I have always had a bigger interest in the shooting part than the hunting part, and since I came across hickok45 on youtube that interest has gotten new life.

I just love how he does it. Instead of only shooting moose paper targets like we do here, he shoots at flower pots, car doors, metal figures and 2 liter soda cans etc. I quickly realized that's what I want to do too though unfortunately I have limited abilities since our plot of land is shaped the way it is which is quite narrow with neighbours not too far away. But I did put up a few brick targets earlier this fall and had a go on them with my .30-06 semi-auto, and it really was such a fun way of shooting! Though needless to say, that round is pretty expensive and I may go look for a smaller caliber in the near future.

This is one instance where I kinda wish I was a Murican. Our views on guns here is they should only be used on paper targets or clay pigeons and for hunting and it should only be done to better ourselves. Just having fun like this or defend ourselves simply doesn't exist here which is a shame. But I'll do my part to change that... biggrin.gif

So if kiln anyone would like to chime in on the subject of shooting for fun, please do!

I've shot guns for fun. I went to the range a few times to shoot back home. My step-father had three guns, including a shotgun. I shot some rifles and went bird hunting in Ohio too. Fun times.

Now I can't say I owe any guns. They're extremely hard to purchase in the country I'm in. But I dream about it every day. Funny you made this thread. A few hours ago a worker here saw me trying to poison the pigeons that live in my roof. I told him if the poison doesn't work I'm going to need a pellet gun. I also had the fear the stray dogs would get to the poison and eat it, so I wanted to spare the mutts. I love dogs. But the flying rats is another story . . . I do wish I had a real one so I can blast those pests. But, well, a pellet gun it is.

Which country are you from by the way? Back home, as you know, us Americans love guns. It is deeply rooted in our culture. In Brazil, they believe only police should have them. Funny thing is yesterday they just passed a new project that allows common citizens to conceal carry, and brought the age to legally buy a gun from 25 down to 21. But that's another story.

I like guns. For recreational purposes, and of course, for self-defense. And right now . . . for blasting pigeons.

Suezia!

And yeah, I do know the American view on guns. I would love to get my hands on an AR15, a 1911 and the classic Colt .45 single action! biggrin.gif

They do have a practial role for sure.

I kinda wish there were better opportunites here to shoot like hickok45 does. I´ll try and see what I can do at our place regarding good open spaces where I can shoot with safety in mind. I like the idea of shooting whenever I want, not setting the alarm clock on Sunday mornings to go to the shooting range, something I can only do a few short weeks in the fall, btw.

Here in Detroit people shoot guns all the time. Usually at other people though! laugh.gif New Years Eve in The D is great. Everyone pulls out their guns and starts shooting. You hear handguns, shotguns, rifles, automatics...

I have gone shooting shotguns a few times. It was a long time ago, but a lot of fun. I would love to own a .45 ACP and/or an M4 Carbine. But it is so much work. You have to go to a store, fill out forms, etc... I don't live in the country, so the only way I can actually go shooting (without being arrested) is to go out to a gun range. Then afterward you have to clean the guns. It's just so much effort, and I am so lazy... biggrin.gif

Here it is on the 4th of July, their own special brand of fireworks for those who don't want to buy all the bottle rockets/etc. = drunk men shooting into the air with every gun in their arsenal, laugh.gif

The next gun on my wishlist would be the MP5. Such a neat little gun and I´m just a sucker for full auto guns tongue.gif Apparently it fires 10mm which is a nice caliber so if I could get this, I would have so much fun biggrin.gif

I've been throwing bird seed in the air hoping to attract you to my yard, but all I got was a flock of pigeons, laugh.gif

PS: I prefer semi-automatics. (just in case you hit the trigger accidentally, don't want to blow your whole clip, lol).

Not many guns are fully automatic only, and neither is the MP5. I like the semi-auto mode too, good for picking a target here and there.

My 9mm was semi-automatic. You could squeeze it once and get 1-5 bullets to unload from the clip; but if you squeezed and held it would empty the clip (about 18 hollowpoints).

Posted by: Kiln Nov 4 2015, 09:18 AM

Semi-automatics are required to have a disconnector in the trigger group that resets the trigger every time the slide or bolt cycles. Which means one shot per trigger pull. Any time you have a gun that fires more than once when you hold the trigger and you didn't fill out government paperwork and go through a lengthy background check, you need to get it checked out because something is wrong.

Here in the US if your semi automatic gun fires full auto consistently, you need to get it fixed because if you know it is doing it and intentionally don't repair it, you can be charged with illegally possessing a machinegun. Burst fire weapons (2+ shots per single trigger pull) are also considered machineguns and are heavily regulated.

As for the trigger being hit accidentally, the best part about following the three NRA safety rules is that if you screw up one the others will still protect you. For instance if you bump the trigger but the gun is not pointed in an unsafe direction, it won't injure anyone. A properly secured gun should not pose any risk of this happening anyways, although if you're not careful, injury is always a major possibility.

I own quite a few firearms that I use for sport shooting from clays to paper targets including a semi automatic AK, two bolt action WW2 era rifles, several shotguns, and a decent collection of handguns. I dislike killing anything so I don't generally hunt, although I have killed quite a few pests like armadillos and snakes. When I'm not out on a range I keep only one handgun loaded and placed up high on top of the gun cabinet for self defense, which I hope I never need.

Guns can be a lot of fun, an interesting hobby, and completely safe as long as you practice safe handling and keep your gun out of the reach of anyone who shouldn't have access to it.

I really wish that people everywhere were allowed to at least own rimfire rifles and handguns. While still dangerous, they are much less lethal than centerfire guns and are still great for target shooting and pest control. I feel like it is unfortunate that most people learn about guns from movies and tv, which almost exclusively sends the wrong message, which is that guns are only for bad guys and cops. It often also teaches unsafe handling and glorifies violence.

I'd post a picture or two of some of my favorite firearms but I'm not sure if anyone would be upset by it, especially the site's admins.

I completely agree with you about guns on film; if they didn´t portray them like that it wouldn´t be so difficult to get a license.

If you didn't hear it, it was with a BB/Pellet gun. Almost guaranteed to be teenagers. You can buy a BB gun when you're 18 but lots of people buy BB guns for their immature kids (which they never supervise) who use them for vandalism.

I´d very much like to get a .22, both rifle and pistol/revolver. But since apparently pistols and revolvers are the most dangerous things on the face of the Earth (in my country anyway) it´s extremely difficult to get them so that´s out of the question. A rifle .22 is almost as hard to get a license for but at least I have a shot rollinglaugh.gif at it so I´m definitely gonna try get it. And I want it to be a semi-auto smile.gif

So, interested in two guns now I can actually get tongue.gif

First one is a .22 automatic plinker; http://munitionsdepot.ch/bilder/produkte/gross/Remington-597-22-Magnum-S-N-6560-2924431M.jpg

Second one is http://cdn2.armslist.com/sites/armslist/uploads/posts/2011/12/21/257100_01_marlin_336_30_30_640.jpg

I´m planning to go look at them in the near future, hopefully this or next week. I won´t get them just now anyway since there is the usual license process to go through first. The guns actually aren´t that expensive at all which is why I´m getting them both.

Acquiring a legal full auto is very difficult. It involves a lengthy background check process, a waiting period of approximately six months, a local law-enforcement sign off, and is also incredibly expensive.

Illegal full auto is worse. It will cost you a couple hundred grand in fines and many years of your freedom, up to life imprisonment. They take it seriously.

They do sell semi-automatic Uzi's but they function like a regular pistol. Having access is easy, having the money is another thing entirely.

Detroit is a perfect example of how criminals don't care what your laws are. My question is, if they're shooting at each other, does anyone really think they care that their gun isn't legal?

I have developed plans to maybe sell my pump action shotgun in favor of the .22 and possibly .30-30 and the reason for that is not only storage space but the barrel length; it´s way too long which makes it kind of bulky to handle. But I do like the pump action, so maybe I´ll trade the one I have for another with a shorter barrel.

Ugh. Decisions, decisions wacko.gif

Yeah, you have to either carry it in a long stemmed roses box or a violin case; or wear a long cape and carry it along your leg; which makes you walk stiffly - but then people remember you by the cape and can identify you later... laugh.gif

The longer rifles are for sniping your prey from a greater distance and cover; the shorter barrels mean you have to get closer in and be seen by the prey...er, flower pot. Animals pick up your scent the closer in you are. You can't bathe using soap beforehand; and have to cover yourself in the urine of a non-threatening animal to go unnoticed like deer or rabbit urine).

By the way: I don't hunt because I love animals too much; but even if I didn't - not bathing and covering myself in animal urine would have killed it for me, laugh.gif

Posted by: mirocu Nov 19 2015, 05:27 PM

Funny thing; my pump action shotgun has a way longer barrel than my "sniper" .30-06 wink.gif

I want a shorter barrel because they are easier to transport. Besides, a shotgun is supposed to spread the pellets and the shorter the barrel the better it spreads. The long barrel is better for slugs though, I imagine smile.gif

And just for the record; I´ve hunted for many years and never have I needed to soak myself in urine... tongue.gif

AND - if you love fishing = can't wash your hands with soap before handling the fishing line or bait; or brush your teeth/chew gum/eat peanut butter/or smoke cigarettes before spitting on your bait. Posted by: Kiln Nov 23 2015, 07:55 AM

Or you can do what most hunters do and spray a decoy or a nearby tree. Spraying yourself directly can get you injured. There was a story warning people a few years back not to spray themselves directly. Apparently some guy sprayed himself down with synthetic doe urine and was attacked and killed by a buck who was unhappy to find a human man where he'd expected a doe.

The part about bathing without any soap and not applying deodorant is good advice though and is very important in order to stay undetected.

Urk! What a visual that story created; and yeah = a buck may look sweet and gentle; but they can be relentless in attacking once they start (like the Unicorn in Oblivion).

We´re off tomorrow to look at the .22 automatic and possibly another gun. Might as well get two while I´m there smile.gif Should the licenses get through, which I have no reason to believe they wouldn´t, I will also stock up on ammo and accessories I´ve been missing for far too long.

Not going to shorten the pump action shotgun, though. I´ve thought a bit more about it and decided against it. Really, the barrel isn´t any longer than on my other shotgun, it´s the exact same length. It´s just that the whole gun is longer.

So I filed up for a .22 magnum Remington 597 semi-auto and am currently waiting to get the approval. In the meantime I watch some hickok45 videos and came across a couple fun ones laugh.gif

Yes, I was surprised by that. I always thought sound would travel farther in snow, but I was wrong. It does muffle!

Odd that they still list it, but took the photo down. Maybe you can Google it; type in the name and brand with the word "Images" and see if you can pull up something that way?

Haven´t gotten the license yet but I decided in the meantime to organize my gun cabinet. As it was there was no way I could fit another gun into it. It´s not a big cabinet but it now has to host four guns, three lockboxes with precious metals and quite a few boxes of ammo. Not to mention a bunch of paper work with sensitive information. It´s filled to the brim but thankfully my skills as a Tetris player finally came in handy! laugh.gif

I see quite a few rifles these days that don´t have open sights on them because most end up putting scopes on anyway. I´ve done that on my .30-06 too but I still would´t want to be without open sights. It´s like a car not having a stereo because people use their phones for music or a tool shed without a spade just because you have an excavator hehe.gif

I consider it standard equipment and I don´t want to be without it. If I see a gun I like but it has no sights on it then I just move on, even if I like the gun otherwise. I´m not going to put a scope on my .22 because I want to go back to basics. Plus, I really liked holding the gun at the shop, it felt like the sights were made for me smile.gif

(Still no license in sight though and yes, pun intended wink.gif )

Posted by: mALX Dec 23 2015, 02:24 PM

I never heard of not putting sights on a gun before either, that would feel/look really strange.

Posted by: Kiln Dec 24 2015, 11:22 AM

It's true, very few bolt action rifles come equipped with iron sights. It saves money for the companies who produce them because they don't have to make sure the sights are on point. This means the consumer will be responsible for buying the scope and sighting it in. There are exceptions, like many "scout" style bolt actions.

As a general rule, most modern semi automatic rifles do come equipped with some sort of iron sight but have an optional optics rail. Bottom budget rifles may not come with any sights at all, such as some of the rifles DPMS produces.

Are you ready, hickok? cool.gif

Posted by: mirocu Dec 28 2015, 05:53 PM

I promised myself to not bring in politics to this thread, but now I feel I have to.

EU wants to ban semi-automatic firearms and this unfortunately affect me up here. I have one semi-auto already and one on the way (hopefully) and not only is this idea plain stupid since it´ll never affect illegally obtained firearms, it´s also against our very own laws. And what´s next? Will they take my three-shot pumpaction shotgun because it´s considered high capacity? Will they take my over/under shotgun for being able to shoot two shots in rapid succession?

This is nothing but people control. The heaviest dictatorships in the world have done this in the past and we can´t have that. I want to be able to enjoy my firearms as the non-criminal citizen that I am.

There is a petition one can sign that´s against this. I´ll link to it, but since most here are in the U.S it´s not relevant, and I don´t expect anyone to care too much about the affairs overseas. However I reckon it´s all connected and I understand politicians in America keep trying to ban your guns too. I just feel I have to do something and spreading this link is the least I can do, besides signing the petition of course which I have.

We may have a small discussion about this if wanted, but I don´t want to take focus away from the fun aspects of shooting. So lets try to not fill pages with this. Thank you smile.gif

See, I have a large number of firearms but they're all locked up in a steel cabinet except for one. The handgun I keep hidden in the bedroom is the only one I even keep loaded unless I go out shooting.

As far as why I've bought so many? The designs intrigue me. The designs vary so widely that it is like taking apart a different mechanical puzzle each time. My favorites are classic guns like the CZ75, Makarov, 1911, and various other surplus guns. I do appreciate newer guns too though, especially because the manufacturers warranty them or at least have spare parts for them.

So yesterday I finally got my new .22 magnum! biggrin.gif

It´all black and really short; less than one meter and http://www.gamaliel.com/images/REM597_Mag_L.jpg. Beside the five round standard magazine that comes with it I also got an eight round mag. Should have gotten at least two of those but I guess I can always order another one. Unfortunately 25 round mags are not ok here so I can´t get one of those.

Kinda strange, huh? I can´t get a 25 round mag but I can have three 8 round mags which I can swap really quick. Well, that only makes 24 rounds so I guess that´s ok...
rolleyes.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------
STOP THE PRESSES!!

Apparently 30 round magazines are legal but it doesn´t exist for the magnum!! verysad.gif verysad.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I got a sling for free thrown in but I had to ask for it. Same deal as in 2006 when I got my .30-06. Look, just give it to me and don´t make me beg! tongue.gif

I also got a free poster with Chuck Norris! laugh.gif Well, actually it´s about exercising your rights and vote for those who want to protect the amendments and all and apparently he´s the chairman of something. While that doesn´t apply to me it was still cool to get Walker Texas Ranger´s approval biggrin.gif

Other than that I got bore snakes for the .22 and for shotguns, some slugs and of course some .22 magnum ammo. I only got 250 rounds but I felt that was a good starting point.. biggrin.gif

Hi all.
It's been a long time since I visited here. I was surprised to see so many old names in such current threads. I always wondered what happened to you guys.

Guns and guitars have always been a part of my life. As an adolescent, I went through a local gun club safety training program. I made several hunting trips with my dad as a teen. I carried an old 8mm German commission rifle. During my enlistment in the Army, I trained with the M1 Garand rifle which I still consider to be the finest rifle in the world. By the end of Army basic, I could snap the rifle to my shoulder and hit a pop-up target 300 yards away. If I could see it, I could hit it.The iron sights were very well designed and I had the eyes of a young man.

While in service, I trained on the 50 caliber MG, the 4-duece mortar, and the bazooka. Later, when I volunteered for a year as a reserve, I fired the m16, both in single and auto fire.

The most shooting fun I've had is with black powder pistols. There's just something about those old coal burners from their roar to the magic smoke that just makes them fun to shoot. My wife even joined in poking holes in paper targets.

Living in So. Cal. nowadays, it's hard to find any place to shoot but I still like to take out the old '44' and clean er' up once in a while.

On one quail hunt, my dad offered to let me carry his 12gauge semi while he carried my single shot 410 (which was a lot lighter laugh.gif ) As luck would have it I flushed a couple quails. I took a quick aim which was probably way off and squeezed the trigger. The gun went full auto. Three rapid 12 gauge rounds just about knocked me over before the fourth round jammed. We never found any sign of those quail.

Broken firing pin? Sometimes if a pin sticks/breaks in the forward position it will cause a semi automatic to "slam fire" which is where the gun fires uncontrollably. It is extremely rare but it happens.

I never found out what caused it. I think my dad got rid of the gun rather than having it fixed. For me as a teenager, it was sort of exciting firing an auto 12guage.

It works great, though it did fail to reload once but that could´ve been me not properly loading the magazine. 49 rounds out of 50 is not too bad smile.gif

But I really wish there was a 30-round mag for my gun. I have two five-shot and it doesn´t take long before I have to reload them again dry.gif

I have plans to get a round, flat piece of metal at which to fire my .22 gun. It won´t be much risk involved with a caliber that low (I will of course keep my distance and use safety glasses) and it will hang so it can swing, though I doubt it will swing much from a .22 rifle. I like the idea of a fixed target that makes a sound when I hit it and that I don´t have to replace it constantly (like I have to with tin cans).

As for the .30-06 and slug, well, I think I´ll make something I can hang clay pigeons on and other targets that are meant to be destroyed. I may even employ some 2-liters, Hickok45 style biggrin.gif

I also plan to get a gun safe to the cottage so I can safely* store my guns while there. They´re not too expensive and will allow me to have both guns and ammo there so I can go out shooting a bit when the mood hits me smile.gif

* in other words I won´t follow SubRosa´s dad´s example.. wink.gif laugh.gif

Shotgun special! smile.gif

Shotguns are awesome! Almost everyone over here has at least a shotgun at home, even if they don´t hunt at all and don´t have any other firearm. It´s just such a common gun and it´s so versatile. Even if you don´t have a rifled shotgun, you can be accurate enough with some good slugs.

My dad has a hammerless side-by-side with two triggers that his dad used to have and it´s the most iconic shotgun for me. Myself I have an over-under and a pump and I wouldn´t mind a side-by-side with outside hammers just for variety. Though I reckon the silly laws over here might question my "need" for another shotgun. Well, how does "for fun" tickle you? tongue.gif

YES!

My ammo has finally arrived! I now have well over a thousand rounds of .22 magnum and about 50 slugs! Fun times coming up! biggrin.gif I do need to get more birdshot though but that will have to wait. For now I´m happy with the .22 ammo and slugs smile.gif

I´m trying to get my little shooting range ready but this is a project. I´m gonna build something permanent later and put it up as well as getting flower pots and bricks to smoke. I have some of the latter ready so I can at least start getting my .22 hot. If you guys wanna come we can have a BBQ whilst shooting a bit biggrin.gif

I wouldn't say that's such a bad thing. The .45 Long Colt is an extremely effective round.

I have a derringer chambered in it and firing that thing is about as painful as it sounds.

At the turn of the century, back when it was fine to shoot animals reatedly in the abdomen for testing, the .45 Long Colt was tested along with various other calibers against cows. They only considered the .45 Colt acceptable for use against horses/cavalry and believed that many other cartridges of the day were too ineffective for consideration.

So, been shooting a bit with the .22 and it has performed well. I´ve had two hickups when it didn´t reload as it should but I blame that on me not always loading the mags properly. Sometimes I mess it up if I don´t pay attention to what I´m doing.

So what have I been shooting? Bricks, a steel target and an old circular saw blade. Although I quickly found out the blade was a bad idea as it shattered more easily than I thought. Even the steel target gets badly damaged as it´s designed for LR and not WMR. I didn´t honestly think the WMR would be that much more powerful but apparently it is as the target gets deep craters from the impacts.

Getting two more mags on top of the one that came with the gun proved to be a good idea. Although I would like to have a 25 round mag, getting fifteen before reloading the mags isn´t too bad smile.gif

NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH

The new .22 Mag isn´t working out for me. I regret getting an automatic and I regret not getting a .22 lr instead. Adding insult to injury, yesterday something doing with the safety broke and came loose and now the safety randomly locks up the trigger. So because I have to get back to the shop anyway and have it fixed, I might as well trade it back for the gun I really wanted since I was a kid; a levergun. Then I won´t have to deal with loose five-round mags and if they haven´t ruined the gun I´ll get 10-15 rounds in the tube.

And this time I´m getting it in .22lr.

What a beautiful looking lever action rifle. I bet you'll enjoy the .22LR as it should be easier on your targets and rounds are so readily available for it. smile.gif

As much as I like black guns there´s just something about wood and steel, right? My mechanic has this gun, but in magnum, and since he won´t sell it I have to get my own elsewhere. Might as well get it in LR too because of the reasons you mentioned, Acadian.

They get back from their vacation on Monday and hopefully I won´t have to put up money in between for the new gun since I also have ammo to get rid of. And equally hopefully they haven´t tampered with the tubular magazine.

I bet you could get a shotgun over there if you wanted, and shotguns are quite versatile as they fire both regular shells and slugs.
Not sure what the requirements are though. Here you either have to be a hunter or spend a year as an active shooter in a club in order to get a license.

Yeah I remember when you got the .22 magnum the first thing I thought of was the cost of ammo. Magnum ammo is roughly 3-4x the cost of .22 long rifle ammunition.

I went shooting this weekend, took out an AK and a Ruger Mk 3 and tore up some paper. It was a pretty relaxing weekend overall and the temp wasn't even unbearable.

That is a concern but the main things for me are the magazines and the extra careful cleaning since it´s an auto.

I didn´t think it would bother me but those mags are a pain. Since they only keep five rounds each I have to reload them constantly and because they are like pistol mags it´s much more of a hassle to do on the fly than my .30-06. I just wanna put rounds through the gun and the constant reloading and messing around with mags has really started to be off-putting. Add to this my love for leverguns I had since I was a kid and it really starts to add up. Should have gotten that Chiappa levergun in .22LR when I was down there last November but it felt like a toy gun compared to the Remington. I also have a slight problem with the sights but I know I can live with that and maybe even learn to like it.
Also, since I´m not hunting with it it feels unnecessary to have it in magnum, LR is enough. I´m going down today and hopefully they´ll not demand money in between since I´ve only had it for six months.

So, was down at the dealer today. They won´t take the ammo even though the boxes are sealed and I have to put up some money in between (about 140 bucks) but frankly I don´t care. And the gun may be smaller since it´s a finer caliber but it has a good mechanism and holds 15 rounds, and I won´t have to deal with loose mags and cleaning them all the time.

Wow! I can't believe a) how long it's been since I've been here, and cool.gif how smart y'all (excuse my Southern) are about guns.

Here in the US, gun control is a huge hot-button issue, especially after any sort of shooting. Ultra-conservatives want their guns no holds barred, and ultra-liberals want them banned. I'm somewhere in the middle. I like to shoot, I like to hunt, (though admittedly WAY less than the rest of my family. They're really into it, while I've become more of a city dweller now that I'm older) but I also understand the need for stricter laws regarding the purchase of firearms. I was taught to handle, store, and fire guns safely from a young age, but not everyone has that background, so fear can grow quickly, and does. Often.

My dad was in law enforcement (game warden) and grew up hunting and fishing in rural areas, as did I. Now that he's retired from that, he works at a shooting range that offers classes on how to shoot and do so safely, which in my opinion, is awesome. I love to shoot, and I'm pretty good at it, and would hate for it to become illegal altogether, but at the same time, I don't keep the guns I own - I let my dad store them, because he has the proper safety measures in place that I can't afford at this point in my life. But on the other hand, there are so many people in my country with firearms that don't give them the proper respect. Thoughts?

Posted by: mirocu Jul 13 2016, 02:37 PM

QUOTE(Dantrag @ Jul 13 2016, 11:46 AM) *

Thoughts?

About not giving guns the respect that´s needed?

Well, unless they do something outright illegal it´s hard for me to accept a ban. If someone by clear, illegal actions (not going into details here) prove they are not fit to own guns then those individuals should not have them. Hard to give specifics though and I think I prefer to stay away from making calls.

What I will say though, I think those who are regular law-abiding citizens with no violent criminal record should not be restricted as long as they keep their guns away from anyone to just take.

Posted by: Kiln Jul 13 2016, 04:42 PM

I don't want to get too political and upset anyone. I will post this article on assault weapons, written by the New York times of all places:

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/09/14/sunday-review/the-assault-weapon-myth.html

The article basically explains that despite getting all of the media's attention for months on end after a high profile shooting, rifles account for about 2% of firearm deaths in the United States.

My opinion as a poster and not a representative of the site:

There is a huge amount of info out there that shows that you are approximately 4x as likely to be murdered by an attacker with a knife than a rifle. This information is from the FBI. The vast majority of firearm related deaths in the USA are committed with handguns. Then you get into the part that people don't like to discuss, which is about 2/3 of firearm deaths included in gun violence statistics are suicides and not murders. Yes we include people who intentionally take their own lives in our firearm death statistics in the USA, which seems a little disingenuous in my opinion.

We have a murder problem too but the vast majority of murders are committed in large cities, even in states or cities with strict gun control. These crimes are also mainly drug/gang related. The FBI has even stated that the 1994 assault weapons ban had little effect on violence and even the most prolific mass shooting in US history prior to last month, the Columbine school shooting, was committed during the assault weapons ban. Overall violence is still and has been on a steady decline in the USA for over a decade.

I do think that mental health records should be a part of background checks for self committed individuals (we only bar sales from people who were forcibly committed to institutions) and I think that they should disallow sales to people on terror watch lists AS LONG as we put a system in place to contest this, which does not yet exist. I don't think any system put in place without due process is a good idea.

Some people point to the UK and Australia and contrast them to the United states but the reality is that the USA shares two massive borders that are easy to smuggle things across. The USA is not a small isolated island where you could easily stop arms dealers from importing guns into even if they were to be banned. There is also the statistical improbability that the USA could ever pick up the 300+ million firearms already here...a British or Australian style system would never work here even if it wasn't a constitutional right.

I won't take any offense whatsoever if anyone has another argument or if Mirocu (or another poster) wants this post removed from Mirocu's non political thread. I rarely voice my opinions because I don't want people thinking that my opinions are law or off limits for discussion just because I am a moderator.

Posted by: mALX Jul 13 2016, 04:52 PM

In Tennessee they say, "If you outlaw guns, the only people who will have guns will be outlaws."

Gun controls only stop normal citizens from obtaining guns; the criminal element will still (and always) be able to access them.

I do agree with the idea that people buying guns should have to register them including taking a gun handling safety class before being released their permit.

(but that is just my opinion)

This is all good and well, but I would be a happy bird if we got back to simply talk about shooting for fun. I can be very political myself and certainly about gun laws and so, but I didn´t want this thread to be about that. Some discussion is ok, but I think we can drop it for now. Otherwise it can get out of hand and take over since there is certainly much to be said about this subject smile.gif

I didn´t look it up first, but the gun I´m getting is a takedown model. It has a big screw on the right side of the receiver and if you unscrew it, the whole gun comes apart which makes it easier for transport and storage. Could have lived without it tbh, but this was the only lever gun in .22 they had.

It´s also the standard model. The de luxe model has checkered grips and is otherwise a bit snassier, but whatev. I´m but a humble peasant anyway cool.gif

Neither. Most shooters use a two handed weaver stance.

(and that kind of didn't answer my question, I want to know what is the best to use and why).

That's the one. The weaver stance is the most useful because of several things. Mainly it positions your body in a way that works with physics.

It looks simple but there is actually a lot going on. Your feet are set about shoulder length apart with the foot on your shooting hand in the back and the foot on your weak hand up front similar to a boxer's stance. This centers your weight and makes sure you have a stable shooting stance.

Your primary hand holds the gun and your arm is straight. The secondary hand wraps around your fingers ahead of the pistol's grip and pulls inward toward your body slightly. This helps to tame the upward recoil when you actually fire. Look at it like this: If you hold one hand out in front of you in a fist and someone slaps the bottom your hand moves upward. So your off hand is helping to hold your shooting hand stable while the firearm's recoil pushes upwards and tries to pivot your wrist upward.

Finally, you lean slightly forward. Keeping your weight ahead of you keeps your upper body from moving backward when firing. Because of the way physics exerts force when you hold something that is essentially detonating a contained explosion away from you your body will try to bend rearward. If you lean forward your core absorbs that force by placing it in the center of your already stable position.

During my career, I put a lot of pistol rounds downrange - mostly .45 and 9mm. I agree with Kiln's assessment.

This is good, especially the 9mm. Did that one (in particular) have a lot of kickback? Okay kickback? Not so much? Can you rate it for me (and tell me the make of it, if you don't mind).

Posted by: Acadian Jul 14 2016, 08:51 PM

The .45 was the 'standard issue' USMC pistol during the first half or so of my career. It had a notable kick and fabulous stopping power. At about the mid point in my career, the .45 was replaced by the 9mm Beretta. It carried more rounds and had a fairly gentle recoil but lacked the stopping power of the .45.

Most of us that had the opportunity to use both preferred the .45 for its stopping power. We viewed a pistol as a 'last resort bad guys charging into your face' weapon. For that purpose, we wanted something that would not just kill but physically knock a charging opponent back. And the .45 was good for that.

So it depends what you want. Nothing wrong with the 9mm though. Here's more info on it: http://www.marines.com/operating-forces/equipment/weapons/beretta-m9-pistol

A 45 is bigger than me, laugh.gif I just wanted to know about the 9mm. I owned one that I gave to my son. He and his wife have bought sets of matching pistols of their own now, and I was considering asking for it back for protection.

I never shot that one, but did shoot my old 25mm revolver. That one had no kick, but threw to the left really badly. Add that to my terrible (aka Maxical) aiming and you have a bunch of scared neighbors, laugh.gif

Brimful of ashes on the .45? tongue.gif

As I can´t get either that or a nine mill, I´m gonna stick with rifles I think. A small part of me told me to get the same gun I´m trading in but in .22 LR and then get 25 round banana mags for it but the bigger part of me told it to bugger off; I´m getting me some lever-action now! Finally! cool.gif

One thing to note is that not all guns feel the same just because of caliber. Smaller/lighter firearms generally are less comfortable to fire than larger/heavier ones because lighter objects move more easily and have more felt recoil because of this.

A large .45 may be more comfortable than a micro 9mm for instance. In my opinion most lightweightcompacts are very punishing to shoot. Steel frame firearms of the same action type will typically absorb recoil better than a polymer pistol of the same design.

Mirocu- I think you'll like it when you get it. It'll be lots of inexpensive fun.

What about the ammunition? I'd expect a heavier low-velocity round to produce a different recoil from a lighter but higher-velocity one. So the propellant/slug ratio in a given round would change things.

Sniper rounds are heavy AND high-velocity for accuracy, but we're not at that end of the spectrum here.

Absolutely right. Generally the faster and heavier a bullet is the worse the recoil will be. A lighter, more aerodynamic bullet may be able to achieve the same speeds with less recoil because it takes less powder to push it out of the barrel at the desired velocity. A large bullet is harder to push at a higher velocity and requires a heavier powder load.

As for rifle rounds though, a .308 rifle bullet (a typical law enforcement sniper round) is actually relatively light and aerodynamic, running about the same size and weight as 9mm. It is also a .30 caliber bullet similar to 9mm in diameter, although the dimensions from front to back are different. Longer barrels suited to optimize velocity (unburned powder is sometimes wasted from a short barrel) are also chosen to keep velocity up.

Basically though what makes a rifle faster is more powder, a longer casing to store that powder, and a substantially longer barrel. The bullets are mostly kept light so that they can travel further without dropping.

Now with older guns the focus was on fast AND large but generally the range wasn't as good.

Well, two of my female friends had 45's that they were comfortable with - I'd have shot my own foot off just trying to pick them up; they were way too bulky a gun for my (small) hands. The Ruger I had was a perfect fit in my hand and weight; and my husband said it was beautifully accurate.

This picture looks similar (and it did come with the case and extra clip) :

vs 45 - Do you feel lucky?

I actually did see some decent sized 45's on Google, surprised me! Maybe they make them smaller - and the guns my two female friends owned were both revolvers, that might make a huge difference too.

On the bullets, what is better for stopping power if say you are a smallish female alone in the house; and some big burly men break in? What bullets would make sure they couldn't just get mad and take the gun from you and use it on you? We used to keep 15 hollow points in the Ruger, but is this the best thing to use for the scenario above?

More than likely. Depends on the type/brand. There are some proven designs and there are gimmicks. You've just got to research whateveryou go with to make sure it gets decent penetration and expansion. There are tons of posts online and videos to help select ammo.

Whatever the round, don´t forget about shot placement. A .22 can be just as lethal as any caliber if you know where to aim. Of course, in a stressful situation it may not be so easy. But I still wouldn´t want to be shot with a .22 kvleft.gif

Yeah, I was picturing being panicked and not having time to aim, just shooting at the approaching said burly men and hoping something hits somewhere and does enough damage where-ever it lands to stop them in their tracks.

So yesterday I finally got around to test my Remington 1858 New Model Army. A genuine black powder revolver from the American civil war. These old handguns are the only ones I can get and I don´t even need a license since it´s not considered a gun after 150 years. To put that in perspective; an exact replica made in modern times and that functions exactly as an original, and I mean to a T, requires a license.

Yeah. Explain that satisfactory and I´ll mow your lawn forever wink.gif

Anyway, fired twelve rounds with an additional round using a little bit more powder. Hard to hit what I aim at even at close distances and the smell wasn´t as pleasant as I´d hoped. But it was still fun and I really like the history behind it, something a replica cannot hope to match. Since it was an original it was very expensive but I don´t regret buying it. I only wish it could talk so I could learn all the things it has been through before reaching my hands.

They can chainfire if you´re not careful. That is, as Hickok explained, when you fire a round and the explosion reaches the gunpowder in other chambers and set them off too, sending the bullets out on the side of the gun. However, if you just take precautions and focus on what you´re doing it´s unlikely it´ll happen.

Nice day yesterday evening, so out I went once again with six loaded chambers. Had to find out why I was missing the target so much last time. Turns out the rumors I´d heard about the Remington 1858 were true: it prints really high. I guess it´s because so they could shoot longer distances, what with black powder not being so powerful.
I increased my distance to the target and held well below (into the ground under it) and then I started to get hits on the upper part of said target. It really prints high blink.gif

After that I loaded up six more, but this time I had a misfire. The cap went off but the ball stayed in the chamber. I heavily suspect it was becuase of my excess lubrication after last time´s cleaning. This time I was more careful not to drench vital parts in oil. Anyway, with a new cap the ball flew out and all was well. Don´t have more than three balls left now and only one patch (that goes between the powder and the ball) so no more shooting for now. Probably not until next year, if even then. I´ll soon have a new toy to toy with biggrin.gif

It's a lot easier to load and clean modern firearms so sales on the old designs have slowed. Many old designs eventually die. Very few persist beyond a few decades.

(I know, saw from the nearby trees) laugh.gif

Those guns became extinct for a reason; it is called blown up hands and faces! Use extreme care with that gun.

Guns blown up usually happens when you load a black powder gun with modern smokeless powder which has a much higher pressure curve that the gun is not designed to handle. Normal loads with black powder or black powder substitute combined with proper precautions and use, the risk is quite low.

I use real black powder and I always cap all loaded chambers and grease the front so there´s no risk of a spark entering another chamber when firing. I also have a thick patch between the powder and the ball so in essence I´m really doing everything I possibly can to prevent accidents. Which is all I can really do smile.gif

So today I went down to the shop and could finally bring home http://i.imgur.com/HYpR2Tj.jpg Such a fine little rifle indeed and it feels so nice to have a wood n steel rifle instead of the plastic one I had before. Sure, I have other wood n steel guns but that only made me realize even more how much I don´t want a plastic one. But you know, if someone wants to donate an AR-15 it´s not like I can´t take it off yer hands if yer twist me arm a bit... biggrin.gif

Haven´t fired it yet but I will later this evening. I also bought a shooting target but I fear the choice might have been http://i.imgur.com/N4Wl8Tx.jpg.. rollinglaugh.gif rollinglaugh.gif

And when the guy gave me the ammo I thought he was giving me shorts, but no. It was standard LR´s. I´m so used to see magnum cases tongue.gif
Got 1000 rounds of CCI mini mags and 50 rounds of Winchester SuperX that they threw in for free. Strangely though, there were no holes for sling mounts so I guess I´ll have to make due without.

Thanks and yeah, me too smile.gif

So I fired about 50 rounds yesterday evening and another 50 today and I must say, it shoots quite well. Windage is pretty much where it´s supposed to be so no need for Kentucky, only elevation might need some adjustments since I can´t really shoot that far with open sights; they pretty much cover the entire target which makes it hard to shoot at a specific place on said target.

That bird was so much fun! I just stuck it into the lawn and took some shots at it and by god, the LR has some force to it! The bird swung seemingly just as hard as the steel target when shooting with .22 magnum! I sort of see the LR as a slight step up from air guns but it´s way more than that. Yesterday when I was shooting at some bricks it even knocked them down! And they were quite big as well and I had placed them so they wouldn´t tip over!

That CCI ammo is well worth its price. Apart from me tilting the rifle and working the lever too slow sometimes it cycles really well and there were no misfires. The mechanism in the rifle was very stiff and borderline clunky at first, but I suspected it was because it had been at the shop for a very long time. Since it´s a takedown I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it and put it together again and while watching The Simpsons I gave the lever mechanism some "gymnastics" while applying more lubrication on the moving parts and now it all works very smoothly smile.gif

I´m so happy I got this rifle! Between it and the revolver, all I need now is a Stetson and a horse and I´m all set! laugh.gif

But I´m ok with bird shooting, as long as they´re completely green and inanimate. Or if they´re pigeons tongue.gif

When I got the other gun it came with a small wire lock that you put through the ejection port on the autoloader. I kept it when trading in the gun and I´m glad I did so because it locks the lever nicely. I mean it´s not a tight fit but you can´t cycle it and put a round in the chamber.

Had a small setback yesterday when I disassembled and reassembled the gun. I had butterfingers and got stuff loose that shouldn´t be loosened and when I put it back together again the lever got stuck and didn´t go fully up. Got a little sweaty as I didn´t want to go all the way back to the shop again but after a short while looking closely at the mechanism I figured out how it was supposed to be and got it back together and it all works fine now. Even tested it by putting a round in the mag and cycling it.

But don´t do that yourself. I´m what you´d call a professional cool.gif

Poor birds??? They are disease-ridden, and their droppings carry diseases . . . they're noisy lol. I can't stand their "Pruu Pruu, Pruu Pruu PRUUUU."

Then again I don't tolerate loud animals. I LOVE animals, not the annoying ones. Last night I woke up three in the morning because there's this stray dog that goes around barking and waking up the other household dogs, causing a choir of barking dogs. She did this every single night. Last night I woke up, walked out of my house and into the street in my underwear with a bucket of water lol. She took a nice bath. So far she was still pretty quiet. Saw her this morning trying to play with my dog.

But to stay on topic . . . man I don't like pigeons. I hate cleaning nasty bird-droppings and I had to do it every day until I started shooting them at night. I avoid it during the day because in this communist-like country killing pigeons is frowned upon. Not sure if its illegal, and if it was, who the hell cares? People died here because of their diseases. My grandmother is 84 years old, strong and able yet . . . the smell is terrible.

I say shoot them all. wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif

Took my thirty-ought to the cottage yesterday and today I shot a few rounds to check the scope. Turned out it needed some adjustments and I think I got it pretty good. But I can´t put it in a vice or anything to hold it completely still which would be the best thing to do to make sure it´s on.

But I guess it´ll do. Before tinkering with the scope I took a couple of shots at the green bird but missed and later I shot and hit it three times and I must say I´m really surprised and impressed how well the target material handles such a powerful round. Really, the only visible difference between the thirty-ought and the .22LR is that the thirty-ought leaves a more black mark, but no big holes or anything.

Oh, and another difference is that the thirty-ought kicks a little bit more... biggrin.gif

It's too bad, the AK is so simple it always amazes me that companies can screw up the manufacture of them.

The AR15 is a solid performer but needs to be pretty carefully maintained.

I like the AR-15 couse I know that rifle like the back of my hand, the WASR was also VERY simple to strip and clean but the only thing that gave me an issue was the putting the blast plate back on and no front sight tool. Other then that I love both rifles equally smile.gif .

QUOTE(Dark Reaper @ Sep 28 2016, 05:11 PM) *

The only rifle I have at the moment is an American Tactical AR-15. Originally I had an AK-47 civilian model (aka WASR-10 from Century Arms) which I traded for a Century Arms C-93 which sucked so I traded that for the A.T. AR-15 and I've been loving it ever since happy.gif.

Sort of like my foray into the world of .22s.

Got the Remington 597 magnum because I thought I´d like it and well, I kinda did. But the five round mags and the extra cleaning they brought eventually steered me towards the Chiappa I have now. Have fired 200 rounds and I can´t say I made a mistake getting it smile.gif

And out of those 200 rounds I had one failure to fire, but it fired once I put it through once more.

Khajiit used to shoot clays as a warm up before dove season. It was easier shooting real birds, lol

Never really gone bird hunting (for obvious reasons tongue.gif rollinglaugh.gif ) so I can´t comment on that. But regarding clay pigeon shooting I found that my pump action suited me a little bit better than my over/under.

Hmm, we both, but I didn't try the over/under. It was a finicky gun and didn't always do what you wanted it to do.

Oh yeah, pump action is great. Khajiit has a short-ish 3inch magnum double barrel (side by side) 20-gauge for home defense, along with a 20 gauge Ithaca pump in the closet, the latter being a good bird gun, though this one no longer hunts birds. Or anything really.

I think my next and probably last gun to get for awhile is going to be a .44 Magnum. I'm looking at the Taurus Raging Bull .44 Magnum and the price is about right. If I get it I'll show the picture of the sexy beast.

I had a .44 Mag once. It was a snub nose and the recoil was absolutely brutal. I shot .44 Special through it and it was very nice. With a full size gun it may not be as bad.

If you're getting a derringer Bond Arms probably makes the most solid one that exists. Those solid hunks of steel remind me of classy old guns like the 1911 or High Power.

The derringer is one of the oldest existing designs still in current production and as such is a really neat piece of any collection. Even most people who dislike guns are normally okay with the two shot derringer.

They all come with the warranty but you usually need to fill out the factory warranty registration to activate it. You can also register on their website instantly.

I'll say one thing firing a Deringer isn't as smooth as firing a revolver.

Posted by: Dark Reaper Oct 7 2016, 07:14 PM

The one perk of owning a Derringer is that if I want to upgrade to a .45ACP/410 instead of buying another Derringer all I have to do is simply buy the barrel for it and swap it with my .357 mag/.38spl barrel since the trigger and action part of the gun is compatible. Pretty niffty little handgun if I say so myself....now just to buy a new grip cause I HATE the wood one for it, oh it's okay but it's thick around the middle part as it makes my hand cramp trying to hold/shoot it. Still I don't regret buying it best handgun purchase EVER biggrin.gif .

Considering if I want a different caliber all I have to do is buy a new barrel which are inexpensive ($225.00 for a 4.25 inch barrel or $180.00 for a 3.5 inch barrel which is what I got), OH YEAH I LOVE my new handgun biggrin.gif.

Posted by: mirocu Oct 11 2016, 11:57 AM

Over here, if you want another caliber barrel for the same gun it´s a whole nother license application. It´s treated as its own individual firearm but you still need the same mechanism because that barrel ain´t gonna shoot anything by itself.

It´s like if you needed a separate license for shooting slugs in your shotgun. But then again, we have licenses on suppressors too. Makes sense though. I guess they can be used as throwing weapons... wink.gif

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTgFs-m59RY

Posted by: Kiln Oct 17 2016, 04:50 PM

Just shot the CPX-1 the weekend before last. It is a compact, a class of pistols which normally have more recoil than full size handguns, and the SCCY is no exception. The trigger is also heavy and double action only, coming in at around 10 lbs, maybe slightly less.

Overall it was a good experience but not my favorite firearm. I shot my CZ75 last weekend and it was just as pleasant as ever. The all steel CZ75B may be my favorite handgun.

Also currently trying to repair two revolvers, one for a cousin and one of my own.

They make several other calibers and models. They have magnum revolvers and even a polymer revolver. Then there are a half sozen models of semi auto pistol as well. They're a pretty diverse company.

I reckon by then I´m gonna have to get rid of my pump action because I do not want to part with the last of my first two guns that I have left; the Miroku 12-gauge. I like the pump action too but I won´t let Dad´s side-by-side family heirloom get away. Might try to get that license anyway first though before I sell the pump.

I don't think it's the noise of my guns that the neighbors complain about (except for the time I had the WASR-10 aka the AK-47, I don't think my my neighbors liked that gun it was SO loud heh heh heh biggrin.gif). I'm just worried about scaring their kids and stuff. I would feel better if I had either .357 magnum shot shells but IDK if they come in that caliber, either that or buy a .45LC/410 barrel for my Derringer and shoot the 410s I think that would be a better choice.

Edit:
I think one thing I might do in January is buy a 4.25 inch barrel .357 Magnum for my gun. The one I have is a 3 inch barrel and though it still works and extra inch or so should improve the accuracy. Hickok 45 uses the 45 Colt and it seems to get the job done.
Speaking of Derringers it seems the Texas Bond Derringers are the best of the bunch in both for shooting and safety. I saw a YT video of a guy showing off the Cobra brand and I wouldn't buy one if I have to.

Well, basically you become a handloader. You fiil the chambers with black powder, then with some sort of wad to fill the gap between the powder and the ball, then the ball itself and then some grease to lube the bore.

They were still very common even after cartridge guns were introduced and this is one part because of price but also because of the patent that Colt held that prohibited others to make guns the same way. When that expired, others could start making cartridge guns too.
There were ways around it which is why you can convert your cap and ball into a cartridge gun. Still have to use black powder though, obviosuly.

Don't quote me on this though. What I know I've learned from Hickok45, I haven't studied the subject first hand.

It was a good thing indeed that I sent my revolver in for cleaning and checkup. As I hinted it was as dirty as seven sins plus the spring replacement it needed.

It just came back to me today and it´s right beside me as I type this smile.gif

Weren't black powder revolvers really dangerous?

Yeah, if you stand on the receiving end wink.gif

When black powder guns blow up it's usually because the shooter used modern smokeless powder, either by accident or by ignorance thinking it would work. Overloading is another issue as well as leaving space between the powder and the projectile, effectively making a pipe bomb out of the gun.
I admit, messing with gun powder is something I'm not used to and I do take whatever precautions I can when dealing with it.

But it's fairly safe. For instance, if I load the cylinder without putting the caps on it's almost as safe as not being loaded at all. I can even [censored] the hammer and hit any nipple and it won't go off, it needs the caps for that.

Posted by: Cain Nov 30 2016, 08:54 PM

hehe...you said nipple.

Posted by: mirocu Nov 30 2016, 08:56 PM

I also talked about cocking the hammer but I get censored when I do that laugh.gif

Lol, Khajiit was thinking what the hell in relation to a gun hammer could be censored? Then he was like "Oh!", lol

They are the technical terms, what can I say?

Wish my dad would get me a badass gun for Christmas! I'd be happy with a 9mm in an autoloader or 357 in a revolver.

Like 'rocu, I've got a .357 magnum. It is a Taurus revolver though.

The .44 seems like it would be quite handy in a dual purpose kinda way. You know, both home defense and remodeling when you need to take down a wall or two. tongue.gif

*erhm*

*sniff*

My revolver is a .44, not a 357. Not even in the mag config;)

Oops, sorry, mirocu.

My .357 is loaded with hollowpoint semijackets so all energy goes to the first target. That is specifically to prevent the bullet from continuing through walls and into my neighbor's house. Hell of an impact for the first target though. . . .

My Derringer is a .357 with a 3.5 inch barrel, thanks to the rubber grip I bought for it-it's become my favorite conceal carry---although I can use my .44 Magnum as a conceal carry but I need some hollow points for it if I'm going to carry it out in public for protection.

Hmm. My expert eyes tell me the .44 holes are a little bit bigger.

What surprised me was the exit holes in the drum I shot with my .22 lever. FMJ but still really nasty ones, even from the distance I was shooting at it from.

Oddly enough both guns sounded the same---but that .44 Magnum still kicked like the dickens but OH SO wonderful to shoot.

Posted by: mirocu Dec 2 2016, 11:02 PM

Yeah, I would imagine they don´t sound too far apart from each other. In reality it´s very hard to distinguish one caliber from another even if they are far apart. You´d probably have to be a sound expert in order to even have a chance to pull that off tongue.gif

Funny thing I can tell what kind of guns my neighbors are shooting at most I can tell a 45 ACP and a 9mm. But one thing's for sure my neighbors didn't enjoy my AK-47 when I had it, that sucker was LOUD.

Maybe it´s different with handguns? I can absolutely not tell if someone is shooting with a 6,5-55, .308 or .30-06.

Man I remember when my Dad and I went to the gun range and he shot that .30-06 he had, it sounded like a canon going off.

Posted by: mirocu Dec 2 2016, 11:24 PM

It really is like shooting with a canon, just ask my shoulder laugh.gif

Though really it´s not so bad. The 9,3-62 I had was way worse. Shot with it eight times one Saturday morning at the range, come Sunday evening I still felt it rollinglaugh.gif

I think one rifle I would LOVE to shoot is the BMG .50, I don't care what brand I just want to shoot that once.
