As I picked the Rumors option, I heard there were some who wanted an Update thread for Fallout 4.

And here it is! biggrin.gif

So, wherever you are and whatever you do, tell us about it! If you want to include quest spoilers then that´s ok, but make sure to use spoiler tags smile.gif

Thank you! But as I will be posting updates there will be some spoilers... So I will spoiler tag them! biggrin.gif

Here is my current and most likely, perma-character.

IPB Image

His name is Matty Prior, he is 25 years old and ex-army. Before the beginning of the game he was in the military, but whilst out on tour with his brother a battle ensued. He accidently shot and killed his brother, which left him with severe PTSD where he found himself unable to use a gun. The thought of touching one terrified him to the point he couldn't breathe.

Because of his PTSD he was pardoned and returned to his girlfriend, Nora, who he eventually settled down with and married.

He is purely a Melee fighter, due to his PTSD, and he is very skilled. Maybe one day he will be able to use a gun again, but that is something we will have to explore.

His current companion is Piper, who I personally love. She his helping Matty with his mission...

No, Crow does not have 4, only 3. Crow just makes thread to help others biggrin.gif

Wow. Matty is smokin hot. That's quite the look Piper is giving him! laugh.gif

Added: sorry, I had to run mid-post panic.gif

Rihanae, I think Matty’s history lends itself perfectly to melee only. It will be interesting to see how he changes as he follows his purpose.

mirocu, thanks for the thread. smile.gif

Haha thank you! I based his image on a person I know IRL who, ironically, is much less handsome than Matty turned out! (I think, by default, the males in this game are rather good looking!)

Piper and Matty really have grown to become great friends. I can't help but love how deep the companion system is in this game!

Ri, he does look quite handsome and I like his backstory. I´m sure he´ll do well around Boston smile.gif

Well Matty has had quite the adventure in the Commonwealth...

Posted by: Winter Wolf Dec 23 2015, 06:58 AM

Ha! Piper is the one follower I thought that I would not like after seeing the previews of the game. I was therefore pleasantly surprised when she turned out really cool. I love the outfits on her and she is not annoying at all. Matt is a lucky guy!

***

I am back on Fallout 4 at the moment after running around on Skyrim for a bit. Just spent some time building up a new Sanctuary house for my female character. She is called Caroline Wisemann, or by the nickname that she prefers, 'Chalice.' I have only just started the female build after taking ages to get it just right. For some reason I am never happy with the chin and cheeks on the face.

Caroline is only level 8 at the moment. She is looking is start the long journey down to Diamond City.

I will post some pics soon!

Piper annoyed me at first, but it wasn’t long before I started to like her. Congrats to Matty and Piper!

Winter Wolf, good luck with Chalice. smile.gif

Posted by: Rihanae Dec 25 2015, 09:39 PM

Chalice sounds wonderful! I'm looking forward to mods to even out faces a bit better for females... but at the moment I don't see myself separating from Matty!

It's peculiar. Matty and I have quite a connection in game and I feel I am understanding him a lot better. his development over the past few days has been quite strengthening. He has gone from being a 'do-good' hero to actually growing a back bone. He now isn't afraid to speak his mind at times when he disagrees with a point, which occasionally Piper dislikes (but not enough to cause any problems for them). Matty still is, and always will be, happy to help people in need (he was a soldier after all), but he's not afraid to say no to a lost cause.

We have also finished the main storyline...

Posted by: Winter Wolf Dec 26 2015, 01:04 AM

My character is exactly the same. I have no idea whether she will play the good role or the nasty role. Time will certainly tell. Growing 'back bone' is something that comes with eventually discovering their personality (as you have said).

Congrats on finishing the MQ. I will not click on the link as I am miles away from that point.

**

Chalice is now following Dogmeat off into the western hills, seeking the owner of the unique cigars. We are charging through the Fort and bringing our own form of revenge to those who took Shaun.

Assassin's Laser Musket is awesome for destroying those turrents.

Posted by: Rihanae Dec 26 2015, 10:15 PM

So I attempted to make my settlement impenetrable today by building metal walls around it... safe to say it works! Matty glitched out of the settlement and couldn't get back in! I had to remove a wall haha.

Gotta say, I love the settlement system in this game.

Also with Matty I downloaded a mod to give him an even younger face. He now looks the age he is supposed to be! I will edit in a side by side pic later!

Good luck Winter Wolf! Isn't Dogmeat such a super tracker dog? tongue.gif

I really love the whole settlement building in FO4. But then again I also loved Hearthfire and I read nothing but hate over on the Beth forums about that add-on. Skyrim was bland (for me) before they gave me the house building tools, now I can design and build a bit, go off and do some questing, come back and build some more. I really love the game pattern. Beth has now taken it to the next level here.

The settlements need some user friendly changes (especially with settlers, attacks and clipping) and hopefully that will come with the patches.

Thanks Grits!

Exactly what Matty is doing! Although we RP that when something is 'built' he is actually making plans for something to be built, which wont be complete until he returns to the settlement a few days later. I'm hoping that future settlement mods will have settlement items that can be built over time. SO basically instead of the item appearing instantly, it will take XX amount of days to gradually build. Purely for RP purposes! Haha

Anyway this isn't an update... More a brief, story version of Matty's background. I'm looking to expand on it in a fanfic in the future...

Matthew 'Matty' Simpson is a 24 year old ex-army soldier.

He loved fighting with the U.S army. He had been with them since he was nothing more than a 16 year old boy with big dreams and a strong drive.

He was a good soldier, and many would say one of the best... until the day he went on tour with his younger brother, Shaun. He doesn't remember a lot of what happened, only that during a scout in a small village in southern Asia, he and his comrades where attacked. A fight ensued... and Shaun got caught in the cross fire; by a stray bullet shot by Matthew himself.

Shaun didn't survive the bullet.

Matthew can't remember a lot of what happened after that. He was sent back to base after the brief fight was over, and he was in a catatonic state for weeks, the only noise he made were his screams for his brother in the middle of the night.

Once his catatonia had eased into mild PTSD, Matthew was given medical discharge from his role in the army, and sent home to live his life peacefully. He found his PTSD left him unable to even hold a gun. He would break out in sweats and feel the extreme need to vomit. So, instead, he decided to focus on new skills. He learnt how to fight with Melee weapons, and he began to enroll in free-running to keep in shape... an activity he never ceased to participate in.

Matthew was 19 years old when he was given medical discharge, and he was sent to live with his mother in sanctuary. He found out his father left when news about Shaun's death arose. Matthew always noticed the pained look in his mothers eyes. Was it because of his dad? Shaun? Because Matty killed Shaun? Whatever it was... the look didn't stay with her for long. When Three weeks after Matty returned home he found her in the bathroom, lying motionless, fully clothed, in the running shower. She had several empty bottles of pills next to her.

"You didn't KILL her. She was grieving, for so many things. " Nora, his childhood friend and old high school girlfriend, always told him, the first time at Matty's mothers funeral. She lived next door to Matthew, always had.

And when Matthew received the deed to his house and a lot of money in his mothers will, he decided to stay in the house. Next to Nora. And it was because of that their relationship blossomed.

They fell in love, married when they were both 22 and had a child when they were 24.

A child called Shaun.

EDIT: Edited thanks to some genuinely helpful notes from SubRosa. I'm really enjoying learning more about Matty.

Posted by: SubRosa Dec 31 2015, 02:08 AM

Very neat history. Though if the brother was Zach, then maybe he should be named Cloud Strife? wink.gif Sorry, I could not resist a Final Fantasy VII hook.

It sounds like he would have gotten a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_8_%28military%29, given his mental issues. A pardon is for someone convicted of a crime. Given that his shooting of his brother was an accidental occurrence in the middle of a battle, I doubt he'd have faced criminal charges for it.

Perhaps after his discharge he became a boxer or MMA fighter? Or some other form of athlete?

Well...Currently about a hunnerd-fiddy hours into a chap called Michael Grey...which is not a sentence I'll often find myself saying out loud...

*Cough*...

Currently Level Fiddy-Six...Sorry...I'll stop that now...

Anyways...Michael Grey is, in my head of course, both distant family and contemporary of Arnaud in D.C./New Vegas...Because he can be...It's my story...I can twist whatever I like...

(Bishop/actress)...

So yeah...Level 56...though I admit that "an amount" of that has come from settlement building...

However
...I've explored the entire of The North™...Everything above that road that runs East/West across the centre of the map...With predictable amount of predictability, I'm now moving The South™...East to West in sections, using the North/South roads as delineation lines...So as to keep track of what I'm doing...

I've tried to avoid quests as much as possible...Unless I happen to have fallen into them and I think they're worth doing there and then...

So I very much loved the one with the Chinese Ghoul in the submarine...Who was, by far, my fave character that I've encountered so far...

Well, Cricket excepted...*Fans self*...Be still my heart...Ooof!...No...Seriously...Hotness... wub.gif ...Same effect as Cutter had on me in the Shivering Isles... biggrin.gif ...

Oh, and the other fave quest that made me smile and all heart-warmed and everything...Kid In The Fridge...

Yup...

The game has more than its fair share of bugs...But most of them have been work-around-able...*Shrug*...Nothing's stopped me in my useful purpose of being vewwy vewwy quiet...Ahm hunt'n' Waider...Huh-huh-huh...

Although, being the level I am, there is the occasional laughing as yet another Alpha Deathclaw or Queen Mirelurk (which are actually genuinely unnerving, thinking about it...) tries to rip my head off and I give is some with my Han Solo-alike Scoped Magnum .44 hand cannon... biggrin.gif ...Ye Gods I'm awesome in the game... biggrin.gif ...

Much fun...

Excellent game... biggrin.gif ...

Proper loving it...

Good to see you McB! Seems like you're having a blast with Fallout 4! I'm overly addicted to it ATM!

I'm not so addicted to settlement building, though. The whole thing breaks immersion from my RP, so once a gradual build mod is made Imma steer clear! Haha.

Looking forward to your updates biggrin.gif

Posted by: mirocu Jan 10 2016, 09:29 PM

Ooh! McB is playing Fallout4! Another reason to call in sick, eh? biggrin.gif

Posted by: McBadgere Jan 11 2016, 02:14 PM

Rihanae!!... biggrin.gif ...Yes...I think "addicted to" can be pretty fairly applied to my state with Fallout 4... biggrin.gif ...

And yeah, the settlement thing will properly take you out of any immersion you try and get into...You have to go back and settle the bugs down so often...I was on it for a good couple of hours yesterday...At least two thirds of the time was spent FT-ing back to the various settlements to try and get the programme to remember what exactly the settlements consist of...Oy...

Nevermind...Proper excellent game though...

Besides...My RP-ing consists of being Nordy-Boy/Robert McWylde/J'Drell/J'Zirlo/Arnaud...Basically...I do the same thing over and over... biggrin.gif ...

Crow-Boy!!...Me?...Take a sicky to play a game?...As if... wink.gif ...

Posted by: Rihanae Jan 12 2016, 09:56 PM

Without mods my RPing is all imagination, which, ironically, I find easier! Haha. I just think simple things like, 'Matty's been awake for 14 hours... does he really want to trek four hours to do a quest? No. He'll sleep." Haha.

I am looking forward to mods though! I'm looking forward to body mods too. I have a Unique Player Mod which only adds the effect of a appearance mod to my character. I want an HD body mod with some good tattoo designs. But, alas, I must wait sad.gif

Posted by: mirocu Jan 13 2016, 10:47 AM

Yes, the easiest way to roleplay is indeed to just use your head wink.gif

Posted by: McBadgere Jan 26 2016, 05:05 AM

Just a quick update...Because I'm sure you care...

My save game has become too unstable to continue...(Like with much else these days... rolleyes.gif ...)...I ended up spending more time trying to fix the problems in the settlements than I was actually wandering and playing...

I gave up...

Sad for the hundred-odd hours I put into the game, but I'm not missing playing it and have no intention of starting again...So therein, I suspect, is a problem...

Hey-ho...

Posted by: mirocu Jan 26 2016, 08:24 AM

Sorry to hear that, McB. I hope you at least had some fun playing it kvleft.gif

Posted by: Rihanae Jan 26 2016, 09:35 PM

I'm sorry too sad.gif I remember when Lissa's saves got corrupted on Oblivion. I had no interest in playing it for a long time. Hopefully you'll find that reason to play again... THE COMMONWEALTH NEEDS YOU!! tongue.gif

Quick question for console gamers (if there are any). Do we get our 8 hotkeys back on our controllers? or is it still like Skyrim in which there are only 2?

On console you can press each direction on the pad and load up items and weapons on it.
You get 3 item locations in each direction, so 12 items/weapons in total.

I use the bottoms ones for health and load up weapons everywhere else. cool.gif

Si I haven't been active for a couple of weeks, or at least posting as I have been online. Kid stuff. Haha.

Recently I've been getting into Fallout 4 after purchasing it on steam and i am LOVING it!

I have a character named Andrea (original, no?) and she is a lot more like the character she was inspired from.

She primarily is a sniper/sharpshooter, but is is also quite adept in close quarters combat.

In her past life she was the army veteran instead of her husband, which to me explains her skill with a rifle.

Her current companion is Danse, as she is progressing through the BoS storyline.

I'll post a pic soon.

Ahhh!! Feels so good to be back into Fallout 4 with Matty!

As before i have Piper as my companion. Forgot how great she can be to have around.

I've been doing a lot more with settlement building too. Currently i'm putting all focus on Red Rocket and it's looking amazing. Once it's complete I'll upload a video showing you guys.

Any PS4 users here also?

I play(ed) Fallout4 on PS4. Haven't played it in a while since I've been gaming on my year old pc really heavy. I do enjoy it though, especially playing it on Survival mode.

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 12 2017, 01:14 AM

I only play on the PC...

I liked Piper. But felt guilty about her being a companion, since she has both a newpaper to run and a little sister to take care of. She belongs in Diamond City, not following the Lone Wanderer around from one gunfight to the next.

I agree about Nat. I see Pipers decision to leave the paper as her way of seeing the world and the potential to do good. Comments she makes suggest that she is aware that with the paper she is potentially doing more harm than good, so she wants to try and rectify that by seeing of she CAN do good. A bit far fetched, but that's how I view it. Haha.

With Nat, I try to have Matty and Pipers return to diamond city every couple of days/once a week.I like to imagine Nat is quite self sufficient, and has a couple of people look out for her. Possibly the reverend in the church opposite the paper.

Posted by: TheCheshireKhajiit Feb 12 2017, 02:10 AM

Also, Piper has serious doubts as to whether or not it is good for Nat to be around her (Piper).

Oh yes! I haven't reached that point in our affinity yet so I'd forgotten all about that! So yeah, she does quite blindly leave behind all her responsibilities... but maybe she knows that those responsibilities are not only bad for her as a person (the paper, bringing her a negative reputation she silently detests.) But also for Nat, as she doesn't want Nat to end up like her; a hated, ridiculed person with a needless passion that could get her killed for no good reason.

Posted by: TheCheshireKhajiit Feb 12 2017, 03:14 AM

On a side note, while Khajiit has no doubt that Nat would probably miss Piper sooner or later, this one thinks that Nat could quite possibly take care of herself. It sounds like Piper is abroad a good bit, so Nat is probably used to having to fend for herself.

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 23 2017, 10:32 PM

MM isn't much to write home about. Best perk is that you can keep everyone but the Institute alive. Defending the Castle is fun, too.

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 25 2017, 02:38 AM

Well I finally b38t teh g@m3 like a red-headed stepchild. After 107.5 hours Elektra has gone everywhere in the Commonwealth and finished the Railroad/Main Quest Line(s). I have not touched Nuka World or Far Harbor however. I could do one or both with Elektra. But she is telling me that her story is over, so I think it is time to move on to a new character.

I have been experimenting with a lot of the modded weapons I have used to replace the vanilla ones I hate. I especially like the AK-74 and M4A1. The AK has a winter camo scheme that would be perfect for Persephone. So I think I will save that for when I eventually play her. But I don't think it is Persephone's time yet. I have a lot of mods lined up for her. But I think I will have to create a new race for her to make her textures pale enough. I already created a skin color as white as possible (literally 255, 255, 255), but it does not look pale enough to be a corpse. Unless I am just in a place where the lighting is not good enough to tell for certain. But I also need to find a white or gray outfit for her to wear, which I have not done yet.

So I might bring Annie Ley Oak to Boston. She was an M4A1'er back in New Vegas, so the weapons I have been having fun with at the moment suit her to a tee. I am not sure abut her attire either. But she was a pretty down to earth kind of gal. Vanilla gear like Road Leathers and Leather Armor might work just fine for her. Plus hats, lots of hats, which thankfully are plentiful in the Commonwealth.

Annie just heard a Protectron say: "Warning, Union Violation! Last recorded break was nine thousand, nine hundred, ninety nine hours ago."

I have a problem. As I play on console I can't use alternate start mods.

Basically I want to have Eva Bree do the main storyline, but as she is an established character from f03 and NV and I don't want to 'reboot' her character, I can't think of how to imagine this as we all know how the main quest starts and the ultimate goal. She can't be frozen for 2oo years when she was born in FO3s vault 101.

I was thinking of maybe memory wipe thing and having vault 111 as a virtual reality thing she woke from where she thought she was pre bombs and had a son, but obviously this won't work.

Any ideas? My head hurts 😂

Posted by: SubRosa Feb 26 2017, 06:02 PM

I never do the main quest in most Bethesda games. But I always did the tutorial in Oblivion, and Vault 101 in Fallout 3. With characters not doing the main quest I roleplayed that it was simply a dream, and they woke up outside the vault.

An F4 character can put down the whole pre-war tutorial and Vault 111 as a dream as well. But the sticking point is Shaun. You could roll with the idea that the character did have a son who was kidnapped, or ran away, or who was lost the old-fashioned way. That might be the Shaun in the Institute. His age might be accounted for by some kind of accelerated growth program like the Republic Clones underwent. Or Institute Shaun could be crazy and fixated upon you, thinking that you are his real mother when in fact you are not. Or Shaun might be a Synth, who thinks he is your son, and no one else at the Institute knows any better!

Great ideas!

I was thinking this. Been on my mind all day:

After the death of a friend at the hands of a synth, Eva Bree finds a way into the institute ( not sure how yet) once there she causes a ruckus which attracts Father. Instead of killing her, he notices a striking resemblance to his own Mother (in this world both his parents died, not just SS spouse.) He decides to test her, to see if he could be morphed into the mother he never had, so he implants her with fake memories and sticks her in vault 111, to she is she could be the devoted, loving mother he never had.

I read a report in the Institute about them wanting to do a test on crops in the Wasteland. So they kidnapped the owner of a farm and replaced him with a Synth. That way the Synth could carry out the experiments in the Wasteland with no one the wiser, since everyone would think he was just the farmer. It could be that Eva was kidnapped and replaced as well, even from as far away as the Capital Wasteland. Then once she was back at the Institute Father sees her and does what you had in mind.

Hmm... as great as that idea is, I don't think I could do it 😂 the thought of my Eva Bree being a syth saddens me... as it means the real Eva would have died. But going along with your previous idea of Father being obsessed due to his mothers likeness is one i will play with. Thanks for the help SubRosa! It's all coming together now smile.gif

No, I don't mean that your character was a Synth. But rather she was kidnapped and a Synth impersonated her in her old life, while the real Eva was put into Vault 111.

I see! And that is actually a great idea... her most recent escapades are in NV so I was going to have Veronica be the friend the synth kills... but I am very intreagued by your idea. It's logical and makes sense with what I'm trying to do.

Did you download the high res texture pack? That sounds like a bug associated with it. Check the Nexus, I have seen fixes for it there.

Lol, Kim-Ly just got out of the vault and hasn't even made it to Sanctuary yet so we haven't been able to tell how much of a difference it makes. We may end up uninstalling it ourselves!

Posted by: Cain Mar 1 2017, 03:28 PM

My new character Luna, has just made it Diamond City.

Along the way she helped out some folks in need at Concord, and helped set up a brandy new settlement in Sanctuary.

Afterwards, she made her way to Tenpines Bluff at the request of Preston Garvey. Corvega proved an impressive boon, not only with the sheer amount of junk to be collected, but also an M1911 pistol, which joins the R91 Assault Rifle on the wall of her bedroom in Sanctuary. She doesn't have much of the ammo for either of them, yet.

She also helped the Brotherhood in Cambridge, and even quested with Paladin Danse, only to decide that she had more important things to do than joining up.

Valentine's Detective Agency is the next stop.

I believe the console is disabled in Survival Mode. I have seen some people complain about gun mods where the weapon was only available by the console, and they said that meant that Survival players could not get it.

I started up Annie Ley Oak last week, and adventured around a bit before going to Concord. This time around I scrounged up two power armor frames beforehand, and put together a complete suit before going in. That game actually accounted for someone doing that. There is specific dialogue from both Preston and Sturgis about it. Preston says something like you "came in like a metal saviour". Sturgis remarks that he was going to suggest going up on the roof to get a suit of powered armor, but since you already have one...

Most of the time I name my characters after goddesses or people from myth and legend. But with the Fallout games I sometimes get away from that and look for names with a more modern feel: Like Holland Smith or Molly Hatchet. I first played Annie in New Vegas, so I was looking for a Western-themed name. I had already used Lonesome Dove, so that was out. I was looking for various female gun fighters, and came down to Calamity Jane and Annie Oakley. After a little magic on the last name, Annie Ley Oak was born. smile.gif

Lol, good ol' Bethesda games! So full of stuff to discover! Did you know there are a bunch of gourd plants behind the "Doomsday Prepper's" house, about halfway to the creek? Also there is a combat knife in the little boat on the lake front near Sanctuary (though sometimes it falls through the boat).

Matty uses melee exclusively, but I do agree. I find melee strangled overpowered against most foes. These days Matty has a rifle on hand to add a bit of flavour to fights.

Currently Matty is working on Vault 88... which is a lot harder than I thought it would be! I think I might download far harbour soon and start on that.

Melee is very powerful, especially in VATS. When making sneak attacks with the Ninja perk, it is just insane. Elektra was doing about 5,000 point of damage that way in one hit.

But the blocking is where it really fails for me. They changed the way blocks work. Now you press the block key and it plays an animation of you blocking for a few seconds. Then you drop the block. So you have to time your block perfectly when people attack. If you get swarmed by multiple opponents (as ferals tend to do), you literally cannot block them all, as it won't last long enough. There seems to be a delay between pushing the block button and you actually blocking, so it is really hard.

It is strange, since this is not only the same company that gave us the Elder Scrolls games, but using the same engine (at least the same engine as in Skyrim 64-bit). So clearly they know how make a game with melee weapons. But they seem to forget everything they know between games.

I agree. I get that they're obviously trying to emphasise guns more than melee for this game... but it still seems odd that they provide no challenge for being a melee fighter.

My vault 88 is going well. It's pretty basic atm as I'm still getting the hang of how building vaults works, but I'm enjoying it. I'll post a video of my vault once it's finished smile.gif

Khajiit likes it a lot. It's weird that you can only save at a bed but there is a mod for that, this one hasn't gotten around to downloading it though. You take more damage so you must be very careful about picking fights, but you also deal more damage too. There is hunger, thirst, and sleep necessities, so if you don't like managing those then survival isn't for you. There are illnesses too, each with varying effects such as insomnia, parasites, and infection (infection slowly drains away your health and you can die from it without medical attention or antibiotics, which is a new med you can find). Your carry weight is very limited too, so pocketed gear is a must, and ballistic weave is a godsend when you finally get it. You may find that hauling your loot back to your safe house is an adventure in and of itself (or that it is tedious tongue.gif)! Khajiit recommends reading up on it before trying if you haven't already, as there's some things this one isn't sure about.

Well, I'm going to use http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14650/ from the get go. neildarkstar tipped me onto it, and it lets you set it up more to your liking. (Definitely want the console available, especially for bug fixing.)

The hunger/thirst/sleep needs don't bother me all that much - I use Realistic Needs and Diseases in Skyrim, so that won't be anything new. I also have Ballistic Weave available at Cambridge Polymer Labs (seems more lore friendly), so that should be easier to obtain than going through the RR motions.

I'm hoping to really enjoy it!

So I'm working on a new fanfic, which I'm currently writing so I have lots done ahead of time before posting.

It's a book written by Piper, documenting her and Matty's adventures. So it's a fic from her perspective, rather than Marty's.

I really like Piper as a character so it's been a lot of fun getting into her head, and answering some questions Bethesda didn't answer or even ask.

So yeah, I won't be posting any time soon but I'm SUPER excited to share it!

I'm glad vault tec workshop wasn't expensive to purchase as I've lost interest in it. Thought it would be fun to build a vault, but it's not.

So I'm working on my smaller settlements, mainly covenant which is Matty' s home settlement.

Also I finished the Far Harbour MQ. I'm disappointed with the conclusion if you choose the peaceful route, though. Not much happens and not much of a challenge, but oh well. I've still got a lot of the island to explore so I'm looking forward to returning there!

Marty's just finished the Cabot quest line. I enjoyed that very much.

The whole idea of helping build a vault after being the victim of Vault Tec's experiments strikes me as something akin to asking a concentration camp survivor to help craft a new genocide. No thanks. After all the vile and just plain evil things Vault Tec has done throughout the Fallout series, my gut reaction is to kill everyone from Vault Tec that I encounter, just like Raiders. But thankfully the Great War seems to have weeded almost everyone from Vault Tec out of the gene pool already.

So needless to say I have never done anything beyond talking to that ghoul lady in the Vault dlc. It came with the Season Pass, and that was on sale when I bought it.

Still, Loviatar might want to play Overseer for a while. She enjoys playing with her food. Of course it would end with her killing and eating everyone...

Posted by: TheCheshireKhajiit Mar 10 2017, 04:17 AM

Well couldn't you just make it like a regular settlement (just underground)? Khajiit isn't sure what all is involved with the vault dlc but this one is fairly sure you wouldn't have to be a giant dick to your dwellers.

Vault 88 is perfect for Loviatar.

She would be like a lion in a cage. One where the handlers are on her side of the bars. lol.

I agree with what you said about the genocide. Seems very strange that Beth decided to go down the evil angle with the vault and the forced line in Nuka World. I would rather they planned the game correctly from the start- slavery, prostitution, etc added where the game needed it. And allowed us the choice to change the outcome of it.

The ham-fisted evil quest lines are only added because people pointed out that there is no evil quests/karma in the game. Which does not make sense in a post apocalyptic world. But doing it this way is even worse.

Nuka world forces you to be evil? Seriously? Matty isn't an evil character so downloading this DLC is not ideal. That's disappointing:(

You are right about real evil vs. the hamfisted variety. Giving you the option of either stopping slavery or controlling it would be better. Or running drugs vs. stamping it out. Instead of these things being in the background, they ought to be the focus.

I have not played it yet, but I believe Nuka World is entirely run by Raiders, and the DLC's questline is all about joining them and being a Raider yourself.

True, but as you pointed out, Vault-Tec is basically dead. Your character is simply using Vault-Tec assets to build a different kind of settlement. Whether you choose to do experiments on your folks or not is up to you.

From what I have read about it, the DLCs questline revolves around you performing experiments on the vault dwellers. Though apparently you don't have be sadistic about it. Or you can just kill the overseer, which ends the questline, and use the vault however you like.

In all my previous games my characters have always used Sanctuary Hills for their permanent home. Even after finding Diamond City and buying Home Plate. It is just too much work to cart all that junk you build up from Sanctuary Hills to Home Plate. So they never really moved in there, even though it's central location makes it ideal for exploring the map from.

So this time when I started my new play through of Hecate, I did it near Diamond City. As soon as I could I bought Home Plate to use as a permanent home for her game. I did not know the floor in Home Plate was bugged. But thankfully there is a mod to fix that.

But wow, it has been really difficult being low level in the actual city limits of Boston! I thought the enemies would be scaled like in Skyrim. Not! I was in the Fens Sewer at 2nd Level, and had to take on a Glowing One! It took all 20 shots in Hecate's Mk14 to bring it down. The Raiders she faces are not the ordinary ones, but Raider Scum, Raider Psychos, and Legendary Raiders. Not to mention Super Mutants that take about 10 shots to kill each.

In the future, I think I'll be starting my games near Sanctuary Hills, where the enemies are Bloatflies and entry-level Raiders.

Posted by: Cain Mar 15 2017, 10:03 PM

Yeah it gets nasty away from Sanctuary at low levels. It's more like leveled zones. Btw, you could always make Hangman's Alley into your player home, and use a supply line from Sanctuary.

It's kind of cramped, but you can build upwards.

Khajiit likes using Red Rocket as his characters' primary bases with Hangman's Alley being an excellent inner-city outpost.

Posted by: SubRosa Mar 15 2017, 10:49 PM

I always like having a home base near merchants. That makes it more convenient to unload my loot after returning from exploring the wasteland. Home Plate is nice because you have all the Diamond City merchants. I like Sanctuary Hills because Trashcan Carla always stops there (once you meet her for the first time).

But granted, in this game there is not much loot to sell. Almost everything can be junked for crafting supplies, including weapons and armor. That is more valuable than caps. The only things I typically sell in F4 are unwanted chems and the other rare items that cannot be broken down.

Definitely like being near merchants. Red Rocket is good because TCC travels by there on her way to Sanctuary and Abernathy, and also because you can sell stuff at Abernathy. Hangman's is good because it's really close to DC without actually being in DC. Can hardly wait to get into Hangman's with my revamped scrap mods and get rid of that shack that was previously unscrappable.

This is true, but what lvl does Local Leader 2 open up at?

It opens up at

player.addperk 4d88d
player.addperk 1d2468

biggrin.gif

I really don't care for managing settlements, recruiting settlers, or any of that Sims stuff. So I have no desire to create shops or set up supply routes. I just want to explore the wasteland and get in adventures. I typically use the console for the Local Leader perk so I can build crafting benches. (I think it is ridiculous that you need that in order to build a working stove). One of these days I will just create a mod that removes the perk from the requirements to build crafting stations.

OTOH, Hecate finally got to the northern part of the map. Wow, it is like a completely new game. Ghouls die with one shot instead of three.

Fair enough! I just always end up getting it at some point because I usually do the MM ending. Usually around the mid 30's, I start putting up shops.

Then the hunt for level four merchants begins!

I'm thinking of doing a survival playthrough with Matty. The ONLY thing turning me off is that saving is limited so I'm hoping there's a PS4 mod which allows saving anywhere.

I think this time round, as the game will be more difficult, I'll incorporate stealth into my perk list. I've heard stealth with Melee isn't the best but I'm going to try it out. Along with this I'll probably post videos of my survival play through.

It's more because I want to roleplay. Eating, drinking, sleeping, realistic carry weight, disabled fast travel is something I can't do unless I'm forced to as I have no will power!

I'm also going to be a bit more realistic with dialogue choices. I always chose the nice options as I didn't want Piper to hate me, but as I know Matty's character like the back of my hand, I'm going to make more realistic choices for him.

Anybody else playing/have played survival?

Posted by: SubRosa Mar 18 2017, 05:28 PM

I found stealth combined with melee to be purest form of awesome in the game. Besides being able to sneak up on people, the Stealth perks also make you immune from mines, tripwires, and other floor-based traps. So it is worth taking with any character just for the latter. Combine with the Ninja perk and your sneak attacks will be doing x15 their normal damage. You will be easily doing 2,000 - 3,000 points of damage with every strike. Nothing in the game can survive one hit of that.

I have no problem with the eating and drinking. Ever since New Vegas I have loved using food and water for healing. My character would probably all be a bunch of whales in the real world, given how much they eat!

The whole one save thing never made any sense to me in so many games and their Survival modes. I guess they want to keep you from trying something, deciding you didn't like that, and reloading your most recent save. But the fact is that save games get bloated and corrupted. When your one save game is trashed after 50+ hours of playing, you lose everything. F you very much Mr Game Developer.

Khajiit loves Survival mode! In some cases the game is actually a bit easier because you deal more damage to the enemy. Stealth is a very good idea because you want to pick and choose your battles. Never rush into a fight and search the potential battlefield for landscape features you can use to your advantage. For perks, anything that helps you get criticals is a good idea, whether it be Ninja for better stealth crits or the ones that let you save up or alter your activated crits (remember: the activated crits are guaranteed hits regardless of the number VATS is showing, so aim for an enemy's head for maximum damage). The save thing isn't as bad now since it has the "exit save", but definitely get a mod that lets you save anywhere, Bethesda games are too buggy to rely on both the exit save and hoping to find a mattress or sleeping bag to take an hour nap on. That said, if you see a mattress, go ahead and save. Khajiit has always felt the save limit was stupid, it just seems so arbitrary. The necessity management is a bit better than New Vegas' "hardcore mode" and the illnesses you can contract add a new dimension to the gameplay. Once, one of Khajiit's characters caught an infection and couldn't find any antibiotics anywhere so they had to make a mad dash to DC to get healed by the doc before they died from the infection! Oh, and your carry weight limit is severely restricted too, so pocketed armor and maybe the "Strong Back" perk is a good idea. In conclusion, Survival mode is a much slower paced experience that makes you manage your resources better and by doing so makes the game more meaningful, imo; Khajiit finds that he cares more about his characters and every victory, whether it be against Raiders or an illness, is more satisfying.

So my survival playthrough with Matty has been going am. But I've made some changes.

I've scrapped his no gun lore as I found it almost impossible to so strictly melee. However the only gun he uses is a sniper rifle and an energy pistol.

Also this time round he's friendzoned piper. And he makes sure she spends more time at home with Nat.

When he's not with Piper he travels with Danse. Due to his military background he joined the BoS, but abandoned them after a certain quest in which it was revealed one of their ranks was a synth. He's now somewhat helping the railroad now he knows that just because someone's a synth doesn't mean they deserve to die and they're not any less human.

However he's going to complete the MQ with the minutemen.

Oh, and I changed https://www.instagram.com/p/BR57RkmFeOI/. I added a mod which adds Pipers face to the presents and edited Nora with her face. I wanted a logical reason as to why Matty would connect with Piper so quickly... What better than her reminding him of his late wife?

Yeah this one can't imagine trying to be pure melee in Survival. That would be insanely difficult! You'd definitely need high agility to get the "Blitz" perk and high luck probably wouldn't hurt either for the critical hit enhancer perks. Then again you'd also need decent strength and endurance too. Nightmare.

Welp, with ESO down for server maintenance, Khajiit spent some time with Kim-Ly working on her fortress at Red Rocket. We added a concrete wall that met up with end of the bus we parked in connection to the hedge to the left of the billboard. Along the wall we added a scaffold walkway slightly shorter than the top of the wall and put two short cinder block crenellations on top of the wall for some cover. We also added a gate house with a powered garage door that will eventually be the only entrance point for the compound (unless Khajiit decides to put a back door into it). Then we added a radio beacon to the top of the generator room and made part of the inside of the generator room a radio station. Lastly we put a guard post beside the entrance to powered gate and assigned one our two new settlers to walk between there and the pill box under the billboard. We'll get some screens together when Khajiit gets home tonight and post a tour of the new additions in the Gallery thread.

After 3 days, 9 hours, and 2 minutes Hecate has explored all of the vanilla Commonwealth. She is level 60. I have done most of the side quests, but none of the faction quests or the main quest. She did do the Mechanist questline though. At this point I am debating what to do next - Far Harbor or Nuka World. There is no way Hecate is going to become a Raider, so Nuka World will probably just a straight sweep and clear. I might save that for last.

Yeah eliminating the Raider threat at Nuka World would be a fun end of game thing to do. Joining them is definitely not for all characters.

Loviatar is devouring the Commonwealth. She finally decided to tackle Concord. This time I took a page from Victoria's book and explored the Municipal Sewers first, then climbed the church and jetpacked across to the roof of the museum. You were right Khajiit, it was a really easy fight going from the top of the museum down. Especially in powered armor.

When she reached Garvey and the others Loviatar tried to kill them. But it turns out they are all essential. sad.gif And it turns out that even if you don't really want to help them get to Sanctuary, you kind of do anyway. Loviatar is hoping that they lose their essential status once they are ensconced in Sanctuary.

Still, taking on the Raiders alone in Concord more than doubled the number of Loviatar's Corpses Eaten stat... So it was very nutritious...

Khajiit downloaded a mod that turned all of Garvey's crew killable, including Garvey. One of Victoria's early runs through the museum utilized this mod, and it worked beautifully. She tossed a grenade through the open door and that alone killed Sturges. She then got her Powerful Bolt Action Pipe Rifle out and head shot killed Garvey. The rest she killed with her 10mm. She couldn't complete that part of the main quest so it was permanently stuck on that and the horde of Raiders and the deathclaw didn't show up either. We probably could have talked to Garvey first and then killed them all to trigger the Raider/deathclaw battle.

I tried making my own mod that changed Preston and the others from Essential to Protected. But I still could not kill Preston, Sturges, or Codsworth. They must have a script attached to them because they are quest-givers that still makes them unkillable. So I reloaded and left them alone, for now...

In other news Loviatar has been lairing in the Red Rocket. But she just found the Starlight Drive-In. I think she might move there, since it has that big radioactive pool in the center. Plus it is more centrally located on the map.

Oh yeah, forgot you need to add this line to your .ini:
[GamePlay]
bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0

It worked for Khajiit when he added the line. May want to delete as soon as you kill off the character you want though. This one has a feeling Garvey's crew's continued presence in Sanctuary Hills will prove too offensive for Victoria to ignore, so we may be trying this again soon. Hope this helps!

Yeah, unkillable NPCs are a big problem Khajiit has with modern Bethesda Game Studios games. In Morrowind you can kill everybody. Hell, you can even kill Lord Vivec if you are powerful enough. You would even get a cool little message telling you (in so many words) that you f-ed up your game by killing someone important, lol! Even still they did write in a "back door" you could use to complete the MQ.

Then moved on building walls around the entire settlement. I was almost all the way back when I heard gunfire. Really close.

Aurora ran over to the bridge and found two Raiders were attacking. The gun turrets were giving it back, but one got knocked out. Aurora put the Raiders down with her institute rifle. That is the only time anyone has ever attacked Sanctuary in one of my games.

Khajiit always thought that if he ever has a daughter, Aurora would be an awesome name! Yeah, this one has had Raiders attack Sanctuary a few times, but we get far more attacks on Red Rocket, from both Raiders and Muties. Great Cernunnos how Khajiit hates those Muties!

Annie has been doing the Minuteman questline. I have always liked helping the settlements. Pretty much all my characters do that even without doing the Minuteman stuff. There was not much more to it than taking the Castle, which my characters have often done without the MM questline as well.

But since I did the MM questline, after clearing the Castle I had to get Radio Freedom up and running. I thought I had done it after building power and connecting it to the radio transmitter. While I was doing all the building I scrapped the big door sealing off the Armory, which gave me instant access to it, the artillery schematics, and the artillery flares. Which in retrospect was not good.

The Old Guns quest started a few days later. But it was out of ordered because I had already gotten the schematics and flares (and even built some artillery). My first time trying to test out the artillery I got a CTD. Then I realized that Radio Freedom was not working. It didn't show up in my pipboy, and all I heard was static around the Castle.

So I did some digging, and found that Radio Freedom being down is a known bug. The Minuteman who is supposed to man the radio just stands there, rather than sitting down and actually using it. I tried assigning other Minutemen to the radio, but it did not work. I tried assigning the regular operator to the radio, but the game literally would not allow me to assign him to anything. I tried about twenty times, but it just would not work.

I tried a console command I found on the internetz that is supposed to allow you to assign people to the transmitter. You select the transmitter and type in "setpapyrusvar bAllowPlayerAssignment True". Then I tried both assigning a new Minuteman and the original to the radio. Still no luck. You cannot use the artillery without Radio Freedom, so I was disappointed. But after that I gave up.

A day later I opened my pipboy and noticed that Radio Freedom was working! Annie was attacking Quincy, and I took full advantage. I found the main door to the place and tossed an artillery flare into the area behind it. It was a little slow, but I got the acknowledgement from Radio Freedom that they saw the flare. After a little while the artillery came in. I had built two guns, so it was impressive. Each gun must have fired at least 5 or 10 rounds. Annie pulled out her Fat Man (I have been saving up mini-nukes all game for a special occasion like this), and added to the destruction. It was a magnificent display of explosives!

So something got Radio Freedom working. I do not know if it was the console command. Or spamming the assign command to the normal radio operator. Or if it just takes a few days for it to work.

I think the full solution is this:

QUOTE

1. Open up console using ~

2. Select the radio transmitter (hex value should be 0009FF48[EP])
you can confirm its the right reference by selecting the radio transmitter, typing "sv" and confirming "bAllowPlayerAssignment = False" is a listed autoproperty in the Papyrus output.

3. with the radio transmitter selected type:
"setpapyrusvar bAllowPlayerAssignment True"

4. with the radio transmitter selected type:
"sv" to confirm the variable has been changed

5. assign any random settler to the radio transmitter, this should force the minute man to sit down and start using it again

6. with the settler you assigned to the transmitter selected, type:
"setpapyrusvar bWork24Hours True" this should make the radio still work at night

I have always like clearing Quincy too. I just wish there was a quest associated with it to wipe out the Gunners there, and turn it back into a settlement. It seems like it should be part of the Minutemen questline. That would be a great way to finish it.

Speaking of the Minutemen questline, I have wrapped up all I can do without doing main quest/Institute. There are a few settlements left to bring up in the far south, but that won't be any different from the other settlement quests. From what I see in the wiki, the MQ stuff is the same no matter what faction you do to start with, until you meet Father. It looks like as the Minutemen I don't have to join the Institute (like you do with the Railroad). Apparently you can kill Father right there and go right to wiping out the Institute.

I don't know if I want to do all that. One thing I don't like about the MQ is that finishing Act I brings in the Brotherhood. I liked them in Fallout 3. But in New Vegas they were just a bunch of dicks, and my impression of them in F4 is no better. It is probably undeserved, but the way their vertibirds constantly go all over the map picking fights with everything they see just annoys me. It strikes me as a naked act of aggression, and makes me think things have gotten worse in the Commonwealth, not better.

All in all I am really underwhelmed by the Minutemen questline. Preston wanting to make you general just seems ridiculous, since he is the one doing all the actual leading and planning. You are just along for the ride. A figurehead at best. It is another example of how Bethesda seems to think they have pander to every player's ego by making them the leader of everything in the game.

The rest of the questline is really sparse. I enjoy helping the settlements, but those are not really very complicated or varied, and they don't even require truly joining the Minutemen. The Castle as a settlement does not do anything for me. The artillery was fun to use. But it takes a long time to call it in, which makes it useful only a few situations where you are attacking a fixed position, and the defenders are not aware of you (otherwise they come out and attack you, and are out of the field of fire).

So I don't see me ever doing the Minutemen again.

It feels like a bad dream but if it were a mere dream, then "Snake" Logan would wake up already. But so far he hasn't, and the harsh reality of what had happened to him and his family, hit him like the bombs hit the world 200 years ago.

Walking among the ruins of the place he had called home, despair is seizing "Snake" Logan yet if some drug addict of the Minutemen has a sight she claims to have, then his son should still be alive. Because of that, "Snake" Logan refused to further help Preston and his company, instead deciding to head south - to Diamond City.

His wife and son meant everything to him but with them gone, Logan yet again feels depressed as he had felt so many times before he met his future wife more than 200 years ago. He's a loner and as such, he declined Codsworth's offer to accompany him to the wastes. Perhaps the dog will tag along if he wants to, but even if he doesn't...the snake is used to being alone.

QUOTE(Lopov @ Jul 22 2018, 11:08 AM) *

The settlements are all out there already. When you find each, the people living there will ask for your help clearing out some nest of baddies nearby, usually Raiders, Ferals, or Super-Mutants. Sometimes you will get a quest to open up a new settlement by killing all the critters lairing there. Usually it is Taffington Boathouse.

After you help the settlement they will join the Minutemen. This happens regardless of whether you help Preston and do the Minutemen questline or not. I think Bethesda just assumes every player will do the Minutemen questline, so they never made any option for helping the settlements without doing it.

In any case, once you help a settlement you can use their workshop to build things. I always build a wall around it and a few gun turrets for defense. Transfer Settlements is great for that. Once you do each settlement with one character, you can use it to save the layout, and then just import it with other characters. You can live in the settlement if you want. Or just ignore it for the rest of the game.

You will get occasional attacks on the settlements you helped. An attack being triggered depends on how good its defenses are compared to its output of food and water. The game will give you a warning, and if you want you can fast travel there and appear in time to fight in the battle. Or you can ignore it, and the game basically auto-resolves it.

If you do the Minutemen questline there is always another settlement in danger that you are being sent to. Bethesda thinks you constantly have to be running around like crazy putting out fires that way. After all, it is not like people play open-world games just to wander around and explore the world... There are mods that tone down the insanity of the Minutemen questline though.

Posted by: Lopov Jul 22 2018, 05:23 PM

Thanks for some explaining, now it sounds even less to my liking. Logan might help an occasional settlement, we'll see about that, but ATM I don't have any interest in building defenses etc...the game will have to auto-resolve those attacks when they occur, also because I don't fast travel.

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 22 2018, 06:24 PM

You can try slow travel then. But I don't know if you would get there in time or not. You might.

Personally, Khajiit likes the Settlement system, for the most part. It eliminates the need to mod in a player home, unless your character is very specialized (wants to live in a tomb, for example). Building your home base any way you want is a nice feature that Khajiit really hopes makes it into future BGS titles (Starfield, TES6, etc). That said, this one does think they went a little too far with it in some respects, and not far enough in others.

Posted by: Lopov Jul 22 2018, 07:07 PM

Having an own home sounds nice, I agree. Live in a tomb? LoL, maybe some future character. biggrin.gif

Knowing myself, I'll try this feature out at some point but not yet. Too many other things about Fallout 4 attract me more.

One day this one wants to try a character that is just all about building and survival. No lost sons, no pesky factions.

At least you are open to the idea. I agree, it has to be the right character though. I'm curious what you'd come up with for a settlement, you are super-creative with interiors, for instance.

I like the way you can craft in the settlements too. Some of the blueprints for Transfer Settlements that people have put on the Nexus are mind-blowing. I still make my own player homes for certain character who want a lair that is not in one of the vanilla settlement locations. But now I make my home mods settlements, where you can craft furniture, buildings, workbenches, etc... The only thing I have not quite figured out is how to dismiss companions to the modded homes.

I just created a new player home on a tugboat. I was inspired by the Red Wave mod. But I did not like how that mod forces you to go to Far Harbor to get it, and how it forces an NPC first mate on you. So I put one of the big tugboats near Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution. I made a workshop and turned it into a settlement, and added in some basics - crafting stations, a bed, and 3 power boxes.

Yeah it really sucks you have to go to Far Harbor to get Red Wave. Should be able to delete the NPC in the CK, yeah?

Also, Khajiit would be interested in that tugboat file, if you don’t mind sharing.

Well keep us posted on your progress. Your tug boat home sounds cool!

The first mate for Red Wave appears to be nothing more than a nod to the original mod author. As far as Khajiit can tell, he has no effect on the functions of the ship. You can still move it by using the “ships controls”. That said, it does make sense that you would have someone watching the ship while you are ashore. On the other hand, it’s fubar that you can just pop into Fah Hahbah, waltz onto the ship, and take it without any opposition from the first mate guy. Khajiit supposes you could pretend that you struck a deal with the guy, but if you deleted him you could just straight up steal the ship Jack Sparrow style.

Logan and Dogmeat made it to Diamond City. So far, so good - the most challenging fight was with Super Mutants in some location north of Diamond City, because a group of them attacked from different sides at once. After the battle was over, Logan switched a laser musket for a pipe bolt rifle (it has some mods equipped so I don't recall its full name). The musket was powerful but manual reloading after every hit didn't help much in the situation against Super Mutants.

Crossing the river, they ran into a group of raiders which weren't that tough to bring down though their leader was wearing Power Armor so he was quite resistant to damage.

After finally getting some rest on a proper bed in the Dugout Inn it's now time to talk to certain individuals of this most friendly town.

... just so you know Lopov, musket guns are basically old technology, used mostly during our Revolutionary War, which happened way back in the 1770s. It was how America got free from England's reign. Boston was a major player in this war.

Anyway. Nobody uses musket guns anymore (at least not that I know of, other than war reproduction campaigns) so the idea of a 'laser musket' is pretty much Beth's twisted sense of humor. They could have called it a laser rifle, but wanted to have that old-timey name associated with them.

Well the laser musket is basically a makeshift laser rifle, kind of like how the pipe guns are makeshift ballistics weapons. But yes, it was called that to fit in with the whole revolutionary war theme the Minutemen have.

I first heard of the term "musketeers" when my brother was playing the very first Sid Meier's Civilization with me watching him, and one of advances was called Gunpowder. Once learned, one could build musketeers that were quite powerful town protectors. Here's a http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Musketeer_(Civ1) about them (from the first game).

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 24 2018, 08:29 PM

I find the hand crank on the laser musket to be annoying. I always forget about it, so go to fire and *dunk* nothing. OTOH, being able to crank it up multiple times to overcharge your shot is an awesome idea. I think it would work good in fiction. But in the game I never use one.

Exactly.

Today Logan switched the pipe rifle for the Institute rifle and he also took Kellogg's gun from its owner's corpse but because the required ammunition seems to be rare (and probably expensive too), he'll keep the gun for later use. Since Kellogg won't be coming back to Diamond City, Logan will use his house as a place to store stuff and rest while in the town. Following Dogmeat to Kellogg's hideout was so far the best experience in the game, one that'll be hard to beat. I wonder what happens though, if one doesn't have Dogmeat as a companion.

Hmm that’s a good question. It’s assumed that you will follow the road out of Sanctuary and run into doggy but there actually are a couple of alternate paths that can take you to Concord while bypassing Red Rocket altogether. Khajiit may have to try this one day.

Most of the time when Khajiit did that quest he had one of the humanoid companions with his character (usually Nick Valentine). Dogmeat would be “summoned” from whatever settlement he was waiting at to follow the trail. Wonder if it would be something similar to that.

"Snake" Logan came across a group of BoS soldiers that were friendly at first but as they spotted some raiders and killed them all, they turned on Logan though he didn't even had his weapon drawn, he was merely observing them. Logan brought them down, the scribes were easy but the knight was a challenge.

Afterwards I installed a mod which allows you to restore the power armor frame from corpses. Logan will have to venture to the Glowing Sea again and this time he decided to travel there with power armor instead of just Rad-X and RadAway like the first time though not because of the radiation but because of the monsters. The base price for the frame sold by merchants is very high and there is no way Logan could buy it anytime soon, he had never had more than 400 caps.

However, if something won't go as he had planned, he'll travel to the Glowing Sea with an ample supply of anti-radiation drugs again.

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 31 2018, 06:08 PM

I guess Snake won't be joining the BOS then! I wonder why they went hostile? It might be a glitch, or something else.

There are actually power armor frames and pieces all over the Commonwealth. You must have gotten a full set of T-45 when saving Preston and company in Concord. There are other suits spread out. What you get is usually level dependent. But there are a few guaranteed suits in specific locations. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/File:Fallout_4_-_Power_Armor_Frames_Map.png

Posted by: Lopov Jul 31 2018, 06:16 PM

I forgot about the piece from Concord, I thought it disappeared as cell was reset. It was badly damaged in a battle with the deathclaw, though.

I checked if BoS at other places were hostile by FT-ing to some of their locations like the Cambridge police station but they weren't hostile. Maybe because Logan didn't attack them first.

I don't yet know who will he be joining.

Logan joined the Railroad and got a codename Whisper. He prefers this one over the "Snake" which he acquired before the war. Right now he departed on a mission with Deacon but after that it's back to Concord to establish a Railroad safehouse nearby. On a way there they're going to stop in Diamond City, where Logan recently bought a house, to pick up crafting material needed to build some high-tech device.

Khajiit is working on a method for making a vampire character without having to use a vampire mod. This one was using the vampire mod “Nuka Sanguinare”, but there were things about it Khajiit just didn’t like. Through a combination of the vanilla game and console commands, and the Survival Options and Start Me Up mods (which are mods everybody should have, imo), we have found that playing a vampire character without a vampire mod is actually very doable. This one is still ironing out the process but it basically involves the Cannibal perk, tweaking the Survival options and Start Me Up options to simulate a vampire like state of being, and then filling in the gaps with console commands. Sun damage is a no go, but then traditional vampires from folklore had no such characteristic; this was an invention of the film industry. If anyone is interested, Khajiit will post a guide later describing the process this one used for creating such a character.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 8 2018, 11:15 PM

It is a good idea to use the Cannibal perk. You could just rename a few things, so instead of it saying you are eating flesh, you are drinking blood. You can also improve the healing stats on blood packs. I did that for Loviatar, and made them the equivalent of stimpacks, healing crippling wounds, etc...

Khajiit thought about Blood packs. In game, it looks like it provides 50 hp, so we originally intended to use them to heal up between naps and meals. It would be neat if it could satisfy the “dark cravings” though. The good thing about Cannibal in Survival is that after you eat a corpse, you don’t have to eat again for 12 in game hours. The only real downside is that regular food items no longer work for you, but there’s always somebody you can kill to chow down on between the random scavers and raiders, so who cares?

Yesterday "Snake" Logan had the most difficult fight so far, far more difficult than deathclaws of the Glowing Sea - the sentry bot and two assaultrons at once attacked him as he was trying to leave the MF Reactor Chamber. He got "killed" in a few seconds, so upon reloading we were more careful and made sure that we didn't get attention of all of them at once, focusing only on the Sentry Bot first.

Nonetheless, he was a challenge to bring down, "Snake" was hiding behind stairs, moving left and right as the Sentry Bot was trying to hit him from above. Whenever he got the opportunity, "Snake" fired at him with Kellogg's gun and thanks to some critical hits the robotic beast finally went down.

Then came the assaultrons that attacked in pair. By mistake "Snake" shot one of them in a leg and that's when its weak spot was discovered - despite it wasn't destroyed, the assaultron was now slowed down and was crawling towards "Snake". He then repeated the procedure with the other assaultron and with both of them crawling against him he retreated and finished them off form a safe distance.

--

Though sentry bots were tough to destroy in previous games, in the Commonwealth they're from my experience the most difficult enemies.

Khajiit’s characters typically stay the f away from Sentry Bots whenever possible. They are devastating.

Sentry Bots and Assaultron Dominators are a nightmare.

But man do they make for one heck of a fight on Survival mode! devilsmile.gif

Posted by: Lopov Aug 14 2018, 05:48 PM

Dominators, huh? So far we've encountered only regular ones, so I shudder at the thought of dominators.

A few minutes after my post above I played Fallout 4 and immediately came upon a Rust Devil accompanied by a nothing less but a Sentry Bot of course. Thanks to his relatively high Sneak skill and associated perks, Logan managed to critically hit the Sentry Bot, reducing his HP for about a half. Then we repeated the procedure from the MF Building - moving left and right behind a large rock while crouching, avoiding the furious robot's bullets. Occasionally Logan'd stand up and fire at him with Kellogg's gun. At some point the bot looked like it was setting on fire and that's when Logan destroyed it, because he got afraid that now he'll attack with flamer. Phew!

Speaking of Rust Devils, a few days ago Logan came upon a grup of 4-5 of them, accompanied by a Sentry Bot but for some reason the bot turned on them and finished them off but he was badly damaged after the fight was over so it wasn't difficult to destroy it. Not sure what had caused it to turn on devils unless it was a glitch or a random encounter.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 14 2018, 08:39 PM

In that last fight it may not have been a Sentry Bot, but a Tank Bot belonging to the Mechanist's Robot's faction. The Rust Devils and the Mechanist's robots slug it out a lot, and the Tank Bot of the Mechs looks a lot like a Sentry Bot.

Posted by: Lopov Aug 14 2018, 09:00 PM

Could be, because I remembered that the group of Rust Devils was slowly walking towards the Bot, so I thought that they belong together and that the Bot stayed behind. But as they got close enough, he attacked them.

Got the Nuka-World expansion a few days ago. Mariah and Piper laid waste to the raider gangs of the park, and what a fight that was. Had to run around like crazy and take cover a lot. So many raiders and the named ones sure packed a punch. Now the traders are free. (Side note: initiating the fight with raiders counts as murders when you kill them. While I can understand why, considering what kind of people the raiders are I think that's garbage. Still, nothing that accessing the console couldn't fix).

Mariah and Piper are off to explore the rest of the park. I left off at Dry Rock Gulch, about to enter Mad Mulligan's Mine.

Also did the Automatron expansion last week and temporarily stopped going through the Vault-Tec expansion.

Posted by: RaderOfTheLostArk Aug 20 2018, 04:36 PM

So...inexplicably when I entered the Nuka-World market in my play session yesterday, all of the previously enslaved traders were down to their underwear. I don't use mods so it can't be that. The same with freed traders around Nuka-Town. Then later on in an even more inexplicable occurrence, some but not all of those same traders put their clothes back on.

Am I the only who has had this happen?

Posted by: Lopov Aug 20 2018, 06:36 PM

I haven't played Nuka World yet but in my game Cricket's guards were wearing nothing but their underwear on a few occasions. But as I later reentered the same cell, they were dressed again.

Yeah sounds like some buggy weirdness. Maybe try exiting the game and reloading a save game?

I have had the same problem. I checked their inventories with the console, and they have clothing and armor. They don't equip it for some reason. I don't know why.

And glad to see they've kept the MCM menu. That's another feature I really dig.

I modded Wildwood Cemetery into a fully fledged settlement for Persephone to live in. Normally it has a bunch of ghouls there. I set the Encounter Zone to start at level 1, so the they would be sure to be there and not spawn later. So naturally they were not there when recently started a new game with Persephone. Then after she was level 36 or so she returned home, and there was the ghoul horde!

It's Christmas time in the Commonwealth of "Snake" Logan and since he just did some favors for the Finch family from the Finch Farm, they invited him to spend Christmas with them. Maybe he will put the rusty workshop to some use and decorate the farm a little as the family will be working in the field. After all Logan is probably the only man in the Commonwealth, ghouls excluded, who remembers Christmas.

In other news, Abigail Finch cleaned a pair of jeans from her late son Jake and gave it to Logan, the only problem was that she didn't have any shirt that would fit him. But anyway, a man who wears a powerful leaded combat chest piece, probably doesn't need a shirt.

Posted by: Renee May 24 2019, 01:15 PM

Wow Lopov. Is that for real? Or RP?

Wait, I do remember Halloween was in Fallout 4. How amazing.

Posted by: Lopov May 24 2019, 02:00 PM

Some places in the Commonwealth get actually decorated on Christmas and I also think on some other real-life holidays.

In my case it's a mix of RP and real-game events: after doing some favors for the family they allow you to use their workshop, but I RP-ed that they invited Logan to spend Christmas together.

Abigail's outfit is in fact mod-added, it's a pair of plain jeans without shirt.

When I feel up to, and I have too much time to kill, I'm going to write snippets from Vinnie's world.

---

The only sound that could be heard in Sanctuary Hills, were footsteps of the man, that was placed here as a part of the witness protection program. He arrived here 210 years ago yet Sanctuary Hills on that day looked completely different than now. Ruined houses, derelict cars, with big roaches and huge blowflies lurking among them.

“Sin embargo, la humanidad sobrevivió” the survivor of Sanctuary Hills, Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra, said aloud, his voice of a heavy smoker echoing down the empty road. He was right – despite all, the humanity seemed to survive. A makeshift camp outside one of the houses, unlit candles in another one, and music coming from pre-war radios were good enough signs that the humanity survived.

However, it seemed to Vinnie Sinistra, that also insects survived. More than survived, they even mutated and grew to enormous sizes. Blowflies were now big and dangerous, and could pepper their targets with some disgusting goo-like matter. Not many things could scare Vinnie, but these disgusting flying creatures scared him to death. And who knows, what else awaits him in this deformed wasteland.

When shadows fell over Sanctuary Hills, Vinnie found a shelter in one of the houses, and the couch in this house served as his bed. He fell asleep, but his hands were tightly clasped around the 10mm pistol laying on his chest.

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 21 2019, 04:02 PM

I think it is the rest of the wasteland that is going to need to fear the coming of Vinnie!

Posted by: Renee Jul 22 2019, 10:24 PM

Yeah I agree. Within a month or so, those blowflies will be scared of HIM, not the other way around.

El Sluggo He sleeps with his gun. Siempre si, nada no.

Posted by: Lopov Jul 24 2019, 01:19 PM

@SubRosa & Renee - many will fear Vinnie, that's true. Still, he's not Rattler-like evil, so he won't kill for pleasure or out of sheer boredom (I guess), but he won't hesitate to kill someone if "necessary" in his opinion, like if they'll witness his crimes / if they'll stand against him / etc. I'd say that if judging by DnD alignments, Rattler was Chaotic Evil, whereas Vinnie is Lawful evil.

Today's story features his first encounter with alive people, namely raiders.

---

“Hey, fatso! Eat this!”

Jim, loaded with drugs as every other day, threw a molotov cocktail in the direction of the fat man walking by the stream.

“Gotchaaaaaa!” he shouted as his target was set on fire. “Look at that boys! I hit that pregnant brahmin like a m...”

BANG! BANG BANG!

Jim could never finish the sentence because Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra silenced him forever. Jim was the first alive human he met in the wasteland, and even he didn’t stay alive for very long.

“Jim’s dead, guys!” shouted one of the raiders, that were running down to see what was going on. “Kill the f*****!”

Four of them attacked at once, accompanied by the dog. Vinnie got a little rusty because of being frozen for so long, but not rusty enough to deal with a band of drug-addled raiders. He’d prefer to smash their heads with the tire iron he found a while ago, but there were too many of them and scattered all over the cliff, shooting at him from a distance.

After they were taken care of, Vinnie searched their belongings – he took some stimpaks, some ammo and some food. He didn’t know why each of them was carrying a few bottle caps.. Maybe they were collecting them out of fun?

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 24 2019, 07:20 PM

"He's Dead Jim."

I love that Vinnie killed the first human he met. Though granted, it was not something that can be held against him. Even Hecate - my nicest Fallout character - would have done the same.

I recall this fight from the pics you posted yesterday. The Raider camp under the power lines west of Sanctuary. Killing them is pretty much a rite of passage for all starting characters!

I wonder what those bottle caps are for? Maybe the Raiders were very concerned about being friendly to the environment, and were saving them to deposit them at a recycling center? wink.gif

Posted by: Renee Jul 26 2019, 03:06 PM

Yes indeed, why are they carrying bottle caps? Let's just discard those. They can't possibly have any value right? laugh.gif

My gosh, Vinnie's gonna be so pissed once he learns what caps are used for. blink.gif

Posted by: Lopov Jul 27 2019, 11:44 AM

@SubRosa - Logan never ventured west of Sanctuary so I discovered this camp for the first time in Vinnie's game. Apparently there's a raider shack somewhere in the vicinity but we missed it. We found some lone trader living in a makeshift shack way to the east.

@Renee - fortunately he hasn't found so many bottle caps up until now, so when he found out what caps are for, he wasn't too angry. Just angry.

---

“Stop now, you thief! Stop now and give back what you stole from us!”

…

Blake Abernathy and his whole family would have still been alive if Blake hadn’t said these words aloud. Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra thought that he’ll get away with taking some of their stuff from inside the farm, but with these words heard behind, the Abernathys sentenced themselves to death.

He came across their farm about an hour ago and Blake disliked him from the start. Not because Vinnie called his farm “pathetic”, but something in the man’s eyes made Blake hope, that he’ll leave soon and never return. He didn’t understand why the guy kept asking his daughter about bottle caps, but Lucy, friendly as always, was patiently explaining him that the paper money, which Vinnie showed her, didn’t play any important role anymore, now it was bottle caps, that counted as the main currency.

Afterwards Vinnie went inside the farm and stayed there for a while. Blake was getting suspicious about what he’s doing inside but he decided not to check on him, else his wife and daughter would once again scold him of being too distrustful of strangers. But when he saw the stranger coming out and noticed some of their family belongings stuffed inside his bag, Blake went nuts.

…

“Should have stayed there and picked your ‘tato, idiota!” A few minutes later only three beings were left alive on the Abernathy farm – the brahmin, the cat and Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra.

Posted by: Renee Jul 27 2019, 04:55 PM

Aw. sad.gif Well at least the animals didn't get hurt.

I wonder if this is the same farm Victoria (Khajiit's character from two summers ago) stopped at. Anyway, looking forward to more from the Slugger.

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 27 2019, 06:01 PM

There is a Raider and his dog in a small shack directly north of Sanctuary. If you go across the little footbridge that you followed to get to the Vault in the opening of the game, turn right at the river instead of going left to the Vault. Follow the river east, and you will come across some bloatflies, then the raider in the shack. Later there is a pack of dogs, and beyond that a scavenger practicing their shooting on some bottles. Finally there is a nest of Mirelurks right before the junkyard with the Sentry Bot.

It would be cool if the cat was possessed by the angry ghosts of the Abernathys, turned into a giant supernatural horror beast, and hunted Vinnie down through the Commonwealth...

Posted by: Lopov Jul 30 2019, 06:45 PM

@Renee - I think Victoria also stopped at Abernathys, yes.

@SubRosa - looks like I've still got lots of exploring to do north of Sanctuary.

Possessed cat? Maybe in some TES game. whitewizardsmile.gif

---

“You talk like a jerk but you clearly know what you’re doing. You did a great job clearing out those raiders. And even the deathclaw! I’m glad we’re on the same side.”

Saying these words, Preston Garvey was hoping that he was right and that Vinnie, the man who just cleared Concord of hostiles while wielding a minigun and wearing power armor, won’t spin the minigun and empty it out of its few remaining bullets right into him.

“I’m on my own side.” Vinnie wanted to add the word “negro” at the end of the sentence but changed his mind. Instead he put the minigun down and stepped out of power armor.

“If you ever change your mind, we could use someone like you…someone who can get things done. Seek me out in Sanctuary, if you…as I said – if you change your mind. Bye.”

“Hasta luego!” Vinnie lit a cigarette and watched Minutemen leave the Museum of Freedom. He was getting better and better in surviving in the post-apocalyptic world. He had some more encounters with raiders outside Concord and ran into a nasty pack of mole rats, but nothing could compare to the showdown in Concord. The irradiated lizard would be tough to bring down if not for the minigun, though. The only real problems Vinnie had, were his slow reflexes and his big belly. It was hard to turn around quickly, especially if animals were biting him from every possible angle, and his belly was often in the way. But Vinnie knew that’s going to remain a problem, because he liked to eat, eat a lot. And drink too. Not to mention how much he liked to smoke. Maybe many starve in the wasteland, but Vinnie already gained a few pounds since unfreezing. He dropped the burnt out cigarette and lit another one.

Posted by: SubRosa Jul 30 2019, 09:19 PM

Only Vinnie could gain weight after an apocalypse! Preston and gang were lucky to escape from an encounter with him alive. That does not seem to happen much. At least he has not eaten any people. Yet...

That would be Tony Montana (Scarface).

Posted by: Lopov Aug 5 2019, 12:49 PM

@SubRosa - Vinnie likes to eat good, so he's not into cannibalism. Preston and his gang didn't give him a reason to be killed, so he didn't kill them. Who says Vinnie's not a man of reasons?

@Renee - Vinnie reminds me of some Mexican actor, but I can't recall his name now. He usually plays in action movies, always plays a villain, and one of his eyes is deformed. I'll remember his name sooner or later.

---

Before the war it took years for Vinnie to reach the top and become the leader of the Cuban criminal underground, but it looks like that after the war, things work differently. Having survived deadly traps of the Gauntlet, Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra killed Overboss Colter, the leader of Nuka-World raiders, in a duel, and was immediately proclaimed as the new Overboss.

Raiders of Nuka-World had mixed feelings about their new leader. Some of them thought that he's too old for such a position, others thought that he's not appropriate, because he lacks a proper raider attitude. All of them agreed, however, that his outfit is the funniest thing on him - who walks around the wastes wearing a white shart and striped pants? Nonetheless, they were so displeased with Colter, that they were willing to give the new Overboss a chance.

Vinnie Sinistra himself had mixed feelings about his new role. These raiders weren't of the same type as his goons before the war, and some of them, especially the Disciples, were outright brutal. He knew it won't be easy to lead this bunch of wild wolves, and was very well aware, that despite being proclaimed the Overboss, he must in fact prove his worth to raiders. He couldn't leave the place, because the only exit from the Commonwealth was controled by raiders, so Vinnie was in fact trapped in Nuka-World. He knew that if he won't be able to give raiders what they want, he'll end up like Colter, so he better be good at what he does.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 5 2019, 02:05 PM

You might be thinking of Benicio del Toro, but he is kind of slender.

Vinnie is definitely in a tight spot. He has to rise to the occasion and become a Raider Capo, or be the next victim...

Posted by: Renee Aug 5 2019, 07:54 PM

Yeah, Benicio could be the guy.

That sounds really intense... so in fact he becomes the leader, but how is he supposed to effectively lead if he can't always get a grasp on what's going on outside? indifferent.gif

Like the part where it says they laugh at his clothes. smile.gif They probably won't be laughing for long...

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 5 2019, 09:29 PM

Unless you mean Javier Bardem?

Posted by: Lopov Aug 8 2019, 08:01 AM

It's neither of the two, the guy I have in mind, is much older, he should be in 70s now, maybe he's even 80 years old. He wasn't famous like del Toro or Bardem, he used to play in some US movies, but most of the time he played in Mexican movies.

@SubRosa - so far exploring Nuka-World has been fun. Vinnie & Gage haven't yet visited any of the big parks, instead they ventured south of the amusement park, discovering lone homesteads, abandoned houses, the Grandchester Mansion etc.

@Renee - you're in fact not trapped in Nuka-World but I roleplay that he can't leave to make things more...immersive. Neither do other raiders laugh at his clothes but I like to imagine that they do.

---

After meeting with the bosses of Nuka-World raiders, Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra and his second-in-command Porter Gage left the amusement park behind and went out to explore the region. Though Porter has been in Nuka-World for years, he hasn't explored much of the park's surroundings and though he thought that they should head immediately to one of smaller parks and take it over, Slugger insisted that he wanted to get a feel of the region first. And Slugger was the boss, so Gage kept his mouth respectfully silent. One thing puzzled him, however, and it wasn't just his boss' funny choice of clothes. It was obvious that Slugger was skilled with weapons yet Gage got a feeling that he's seeing some creatures for the first time. He'd often say "What the f*** is that?" as they encountered mirelurks, super-mutants and radscorpions. Quite unusual, thought Gage, considering that his boss was in late 50s and he should have seen all of these creatures by now. His boss also had an affinity for some cigars which he called Cuban cigars, but what the hell means "Cuban"? When asked, Slugger'd put a cynic smile on his face, and said that Cuban means being from Cuba, and that all of these fine cigars were made in Havana, the capital of Cuba. Gage had no idea what he was rambling about and he didn't question his boss any further, but sometimes he got a feeling that Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra was from another world. Or maybe he just got too many blows to his head.

Posted by: Renee Aug 8 2019, 02:54 PM

Ha! They have no idea their boss was frozen for 200+ years, and it sounds like he's not about to explain this!

Here are some https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpyBxXeTbDA. Because like I was saying. Cuban cigars are a big deal here, and I think they may have even been illegal in the States for a long time!

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 8 2019, 06:10 PM

That's not the guy who played Tuco in The Good Bad and The Ugly, and the bandit leader in the Magnificent Seven. Eli Wallach? Though he is Jewish, not Hispanic.

Porter Gage might be right on both counts. Vinnie is from another world, and he probably did take too many blows to the head.

Posted by: Lopov Aug 11 2019, 06:27 PM

If asked, Porter Gage would kill all those suckers trying to survive on their own outside Nuka-World. But his boss Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra obviously didn't share his point of view. It seemed to Gage that if anyone talked rudely to Vinnie, they sentenced themselves to immediate death. Maybe that was why Vinnie didn't kill Evan, the lone hermit living on the outskirts of Nuka-World, because the guy was kind and didn't offend Vinnie. And maybe that was why Vinnie mercilessly killed one of ex-Gunners, as soon as she told him that she's very distrustful of strangers and that he should back off. All in all, Gage liked Vinnie much more than Colter, the only real thing which bothered him, was Vinnie's obvious addiction to alcohol and cigarettes. Gage himself never drank any alcohol, neither did he smoke, but his boss couldn't resist either of these sins. He'd occasionally comment on Vinnie's excessive drinking, but his boss would always have even more to say in return. That was how their dialogue looked like. One said something, the other one either disagreed or repeated the same sentence with different words. If Gage said "this battle was difficult", Vinnie'd say "no, this battle was f****** difficult". If Vinnie said "let's have a break", Gage'd say "to drink and smoke, I guess?". And though neither of them would admit it to each other, both Gage and Vinnie actually enjoyed each other's company.

Posted by: Renee Aug 13 2019, 03:01 AM

Hey, so Gage is a raider, but also a teetotaler! See, that's how he got to the top. What about all the other raiders below them?

Gage and Vinnie sound like The Odd Couple (show from the 1970s). Gage = Oscar and Vinnie = Felix. Or maybe the other way around. Basically, one of them was a slob, the other super-clean. One of them smoked (I think) the other detested the smell of ash. One of them upheld common social standards, the other could care less. Et cetera.

Except the way they dress is opposite. The slob dressed sloppily on the show, whereas Vinnie (the slob, sort of) dresses more upscale. I think so, any way.

Posted by: Lopov Aug 17 2019, 11:44 AM

@Renee - other raiders can be seen smoking or drinking, not all of them, however. I guess animations played on them are random. Gage doesn't smoke or drink, though. Each them Vinnie drinks, a message "Gage disliked that" appears in a top left corner, followed by his commentary. As a result, Vinnie has been drinking less as of late.

---

“Got you covered, boss,” shouted Gage as Vinnie and the deathclaw were running against each other, both of them hoping to be the one that strikes first. Gage met lots of courageous raiders, but Vinnie beat them all. But he wasn’t just courageous, he was crazy and sly at the same time, thought Gage. While he would attack enemies from a distance with his automatic rifle, Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra would attack them directly with the super sledge. Speaking of, Gage wanted to suggest Vinnie to be renamed to Sledge instead of Slugger, but in the end decided not to say anything. His boss would very rarely resort to his .44 revolver, mostly just for getting attention of faraway enemies. As they came closer, he’d smash them with the super sledge. His boss also had a habit of naming his weapons, noticed Gage. Ever since he installed a heating coil on the super sledge, he called it El Gasolin. His modified .44 revolver he called Hugo II.

If there was another thing, because of which Gage liked traveling with Vinnie, it was his cooking skills. Whether it was deathclaw or radscorpion steaks, yao-guai ribs or even roasted bloodworms, Vinnie knew how to prepare it all. It was so delicious that even Gage gained a few pounds. As Vinnie told Gage, he also knew how to prepare dog steaks, because when he was a kid, they didn’t have anything to eat on streets of Havana, so they needed to eat dogs. Gage still didn’t know where this Havana was, but probably it was just another settlement in the wasteland. Still, Gage wasn't too keen on eating dogs.

I can't handle dog steaks in Fallout 4 either. Even though it is just a game. So I am with Gage. And Baked Bloafly! ohmy.gif

Roasted bloodworms, yicch!!!!

I like how Gage thinks Havana is just some place in the Wasteland. biggrin.gif He probably wonders what the heck Vinnie is rambling about.

another cool thing is the way they tag-team enemies. Gage handles the far away shots while Vinnie gets up close & personal. Hopefully Gage don't shoot the Slugger in his back!

Posted by: Lopov Aug 20 2019, 01:19 PM

@SubRosa - Vinnie prefers other steaks over dog steaks but if there's nothing else to eat, he'll satisfy his belly with dog steaks as well.

@Renee - your follower can hurt you in FO4 but Vinnie has taken some perk when leveling up, which makes Gage more damage resistant and he can no longer hurt Vinnie.

---

Now it all made perfect sense to Porter Gage! His boss was over two hundred years old! No wonder that radscorpions, super mutants and other creatures were new to him, if he spent the last 200 years frozen in some vault. After killing Oswald, the magician from Kiddie Kingdom, Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra told Gage that he had just killed the man, that was probably as old as himself. Confused at first, Gage didn't need to ask more, because Vinnie told him the story of his life, so now Gage finally learned more not just about Vinnie, but also about Havana, Cuba, Cuban cigars and the odd langauge Vinnie used for cursing. He also learned of a so called witness-protection program, about which Gage'd occasionally read in books that survived the war.

"How about your family, boss? Had any kids?"

"My wife and daughter were included in the same program as me. They were supposed to arrive two weeks later to Sanctuary Hills. But bombs fell first. Even if they survived, they're death by now. Or even worse...maybe they've become ghouls. I'd rather die than become a ghoul. I'd rather kill my own family than see them turned into ghouls!"

"Me too, boss. Just so you know...your secret is safe with me."

"I didn't even doubt it."

Without further words, Gage and Vinnie left Kiddie Kingdom behind.

So, when do we get to meet Vinnie's ghoul family? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Lopov Aug 23 2019, 03:23 PM

@SubRosa - maybe we already met ghoulified Sinistras but Vinnie killed them.

@Renee - now that you brought it up, using the word killing followed by kiddie kingdom, is unusual indeed. laugh.gif

"You're lucky Nisha's in charge. If it were up to me, you'd be dead by now."

"You better rethink your choices unless you're a fan of watching your back."

"You know, in a lot of instances, poor life choices will get you killed."

Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra was barely holding back not to smash heads of the Disciples tossing such rude remarks at him, but by now he knew that openly attacking raiders inside Nuka-Town was prohibited and if he'd done this, he'd disobey the unwritten code of Nuka raiders. The same goes for the Disciples - if they attacked him openly, they'd sentence themselves to death and the opposing raider groups could attack them. But it was no wonder that the Disciples outright despised him - Vinnie liberated already three of five Nuka-World parks but didn't assign a single one of them to the Disciples. The Galactic Zone was given to the Operators, while the Kiddie Kingdom and the Safari Adventure were given to the Pack. And according to some rumors, the remaining two parks will be assigned to the Operators, which means that the Disciples won't be getting a single park. Plenty of high-ranking Disciples were ready to stab Vinnie in the back in his sleep, but Nisha, their leader, was calming them down, though with more and more efforts. She was hoping that the rumors aren't true and that the Disciples will get a park to control in the end. If not, Nisha was prepared to disobey the rules and kill Vinnie, whether openly or from shadows, caring little for the code of Nuka-World.

Little did she know that it was in fact Vinnie's plan not to give a single park to the Disciples. As soon as he met them, Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra hated the Disciples and their mindless brutality, joined with their love for blood. Vinnie was a criminal, a mobster, a pre-war crime lord, but gangs that reveled in blood and mutilations, made him sick. Vinnie couldn't wait for Nisha to lose her patience so he'll finish her off and her gang once and for all.

Posted by: SubRosa Aug 23 2019, 10:02 PM

Looks like Vinnie is going to do some house-cleaning!

Posted by: Lopov Aug 29 2019, 07:47 AM

@SubRosa - Vinnie will bring some discipline to the Disciples.

Vinnie “Slugger” Sinistra and Porter Gage had rootin’-tootin’ good time killing bloodworms in Dry Rock Gulch and the next morning another flag made its way on a top of the flagpole – the park was given to the Operators. Slow but steady, it seemed to enslaved traders that the entire Nuka-World amusement park will be entirely controlled by raiders. But compared to Colter, new Overboss Sinistra was much more "popular" among traders. As long as one kept his mouth shut around him, the new Overboss actually wasn’t as “bad” and didn’t torture or humiliate them for the sake of his own pleasure. And if rumors, that were shuffling between traders, were true, he intended to eradicate Nisha and her gang of Disciples. Neither of them dared to say it aloud, but all of them were hoping that this was true, because the Disciples were the cruelest gang of them all.

Posted by: Renee Aug 31 2019, 06:26 PM

How neat. So flags get added as more captures get made. And no flags are going to those Disciples. Yeah because they go a little too far in Vinnie's opinion.

Basically, Vinnie is not as bad as Card Killer. Or Rattler. Maybe even less evil than Deeno. Deeno is the guy who blew up Megaton in Lopovworld, after all, and Vinnie doesn't seem like he'd do this. Megaton has plenty of good food, after all.

Posted by: Lopov Aug 31 2019, 08:45 PM

@Renee - I'd say that from the DnD alignment system, Rattler was Chaotic Evil, Deeno was Neutral Evil and Vinnie is Lawful Evil. I guess that makes him the less evil of the three indeed.

---

It felt to Vinnie like someone threw a stone in his head and his perspective of things around him completely changed. This doesn't mean that Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra had a change of heart, not at all. But it dawned on him that he was a puppet in Porter Gage's hands, who was conveniently telling him what to do to fulfill his own goals. Sure, Vinnie might have some benefit from Gage's plans in the long run, but he wondered what'd happen if he didn't listen to his advices. Would Gage betray him like he betrayed the previous overboss? Maybe si, maybe no. In the end it didn't really matter, because after conquering the last park, Vinnie realized that his own ideas won't be listened to at all - Porter Gage envisioned the future of Nuka-World and all gang leaders were ready to back him up. They needed someone as capable as Vinnie that'd take over the parks for them, and while Vinnie would have the title of the Overboss, it would be Porter Gage, running strings from behind the curtain, following his and his ideas only.

Well no more. Porter Gage laid dead at Vinnie's feet, a 44 bullet decorating the back of his head. As soon as the shot was fired, Vinnie saw some members of the Pack not far from the helipad, where Gage met his death, hurry back to Nuka-World, to spread important news to their leaders. Vinnie didn't have the slightest doubt, that raiders of Nuka-World would now shoot him on sight. They all listened to Porter Gage months before he betrayed the previous Overboss, and they surely won't be delighted as they'll hear of his murder. But Vinnie "Slugger" Sinistra was ready to face them all, even if that'll be the last thing he'll achieve in his life.

Posted by: SubRosa Sep 1 2019, 06:13 PM

I would argue that Lawful Evil is no less evil than Chaotic. It just means the character has a sense of ethics which they adhere to. Those ethics do not have to be nice. I see one place says: He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion.

So think SS Death Camp guards.

Time for Vinnie to do what all my characters start out with: killing all the raiders. At least he (and you), go to experience the dlc the way I believe they intended you to play it, from the raider side. I never have done it that way. Loviatar is probably my only character who would ever consider it. Though she still might eat all the raiders in the end.

Posted by: Renee Sep 4 2019, 02:00 PM

Sure, I see your point. Chaotic is closer to being mindless, Lawful closer to being premeditated, when it comes to dastardly deeds. That, to me, is one of the main differences between Lawful and Chaotic.

I'd still feel safer (overall) around Igodah (LE) than Mycharonna (CE). Igodah would only kill me if she's been contracted to do so, unless I purposely make her mad enough. With Mycharonna, there doesn't have to be a reason! ph34r.gif Even though I am the one who used to game with Mych, a lot of times I don't even know why she does some of the things she does. indifferent.gif

The Hobo avoided most contacts with other beings like himself, but when he heard sobbing coming from behind a large tree, he checked who was behind these sad sounds.

A young girl was lying on the floor. Whoever hurt her, hurt her badly. What the Hobo was hearing, were probably her last sobs on this world.

"Please..." muttered the girl as she saw the bearded man lean above her. "Please...get those..." She coughed, spat some blood out, made a pause, then took a shallow breath. "There were four of them...they travel with a dog. Get them...they can't be far." The Hobo took a stimpak from his backpack and wanted to inject it into the girl's thigh, but she shook his hand off. "No...don't. It won't help. Just...just get them. Will you?" She coughed and spat more blood.

The Hobo said nothing.

Then he nodded.

"Th...thank you."

Following the wild bunch wasn't difficult. Fresh footsteps in mud, cigarette butts, another victim - some wastelander. Looks like they let their dog "play" with him.

He caught up with them in the afternoon. The dog fell first, then one raider, then another. The last two were killed with a grenade.

The girl and the wastelander were avenged. Probably many more.

Looking on his PipBoy, the Hobo realized that he's now in some area called the Commonwealth. He'll stay here for a while.

January has time and space warped from Cyrodiil to 23rd century Boston. I have been working on some sort of ranged weapon for her, for those times when you just have to reach out and touch someone. I tried the Lightning Gun, but it is frankly crap. It just does not hurt anything, even after giving it double the damage of other guns. After spending a zillion hours working on it, I think I figured it out. There is an issue with the projectile it uses. It has a really short range. So I edited the projectile record and made it match that of a standard laser gun. Now it *seems* to be doing the damage it should.

However, Jan picked up a 4 crank laser musket today, and she really likes it for ultra long range work. I have never been thrilled with the musket, since you have to hand crank it after every shot. Which I always forget to do in a big fight. But we will see.

Posted by: Lopov Dec 31 2019, 07:56 PM

I like muskets, although as you say, one can easily forget to crank it up. But they look great and they're rare, so seeing January with a musket would add to her uniqueness.

Posted by: SubRosa Dec 31 2019, 10:28 PM

Sadly, the red color just does not work with January's style. I tried modding the muskets to create a receiver that fired a blue laser. But it still has red effects in the bolt, and in the gun itself. I could probably try to mod those to blue as well. But I don't really want to spend that much time. OTOH, the shock gun is finally working as it should, so Jan is going to stick with that.

In other news, she has to decide where to live. Sanctuary does not feel right with the others there now. She might try Red Rocket. Or the Cloverfield Bunker mod I once used for Hecate.

I am also thinking of maybe either Eli's trailer mod for Diamond City, or a modded apartment in Goodneighbor. She shies away from Diamond City because of the bigotry. But then again, that would be just like living anywhere else. Goodneighbor has that outcast Detroit feel to it, so that might be the ticket.

But I hate being in downtown Boston. The load times are excruciating. So I don't know.

I found a couple more Eli house mods for FO4. One is a bunker in Diamond City which I really liked. It even comes with a cat that wanders around inside. But it seems kind of redundant with her other Diamond City trailer mod. In fact, its entrance is right next to her trailer.

But it occurs to me that I could simply put the entrance to the bunker anywhere. The outside is just a storm cellar door. That is easy to move. So then the question is where? I like to have something near a merchant, for simplicity's sake. I could go with something near the Drumlin Diner. But a central location is nicer. Maybe something near Bunker Hill. Though that is close to the excruciating load times of Downtown. I could try putting it on the north side of BH. I did that with Victoria's boat, and it worked out ok.

Posted by: Lopov Jan 1 2020, 11:21 AM

Although Logan lives in Diamond City, I don't see any future character of mine to live there as well. It probably wouldn't fit Jan, but I like the place, where the local DJ lives, a small trailer, cramped but cozy.

Goodneighbor is a more interesting place to live overall, but if going for a more central location, isn't there a merchant north of the Bunker Hill, just over the river, close to the super mutant infested power plant?

EDIT: County Crossing is what I meant.

After seven months and one day, I again fired up Vinnie's game today. As I described in the screenshot thread, the old mobster is now all alone against the raiders of the Nuka-World after killing Porter Gage, his right-hand man. Equipped with his deadly slugger Vinniecito, the pre-war crime lord eradicated his most hated gang the Disciples, led by Nisha.

After getting a short nap, Vinnie is now ready to continue his march through the Nuka-World, his next target are the Operators. He decided to use the same technique as they do - attacking with a sniper rifle. He found one and lots of matching 7.62 ammo on corpses of various Disciples. He used the sniper rifle for the last time, while he was still a young criminal, tasked by eliminating his targets from the roofs of Havana, but dire circumstances call for dire measures.

Posted by: SubRosa Apr 1 2020, 10:48 PM

It sounds like Vinnie is taking a page from Deano's book with the sniper rifle.

Posted by: Acadian Apr 2 2020, 12:14 AM

Welcome back, Vinnie!

Posted by: Renee Apr 2 2020, 01:34 PM

I wanted to share a little moment of time, because Lopov is surprised for all the Vinnie love, compared to Rattler.

QUOTE

Must say that I was positively surprised when you, Acadian and SubRosa seemed kinda happy to see him back, because Vinnie is an evil bastard after all. I bet nobody would be happy if Rattler re-appeared. laugh.gif I think it's because Vinnie is still the "lesser of two evils", and it's kinda funny to see the pre-war mobster, used to wearing suit and ties, now walking around like some character from the Mad Max movies. bigsmile.gif

YES that's what I was trying to say yesterday... he looks like some guy out of Mad Max, or some other post-apocalyptic movie full of dirty people and scrappy clothes.

Well I can only share my viewpoint of the difference between Vinnie and Rattler. First of all, him being evil has nothing to do with my fascination for him. Vinnie has an interesting personality, first of all. Secondly, he is different from any character any of us have ever rolled. His backstory is deep. There's something charming about that sort of character. Mafia guys, as evil as they can be, often have charismatic side to them, which makes them interesting to listen to (at least in my opinion). His manner of dressing was also dapper and uppity. No matter what happens, he MUST have his shirt and trousers pressed before he goes outside into whatever constitutes a public area in postwar Boston. Like, he would die if we caught him in some holey shirt and stained pants. mad.gif You went into some detail about how he found himself needing to lose weight, and going through all the typical pains and concerns which an older fellow must deal with. He is evil, but he is also getting fragile because of his age.

There's something about a stodgy, middle-aged man finding himself needing to change his former ways, and then he totally transforms into some ultra-futuristic character who'd fit next to Mel Gibson on the bad guys side. emot-ninja1.gif My only concern is if Vinnie ever met Grace Jones, he'd let her live. Grace appeared in Max Mad Beyond Thunderdome. wub.gif

And here it is. With Vinnie we never had to worry about him eating some other beloved NPC, like Rattler did. We will never witness Vinnie shacking up with some prostitute, just so he can slice her up with his knife. There you go. That is the difference between those two.

Posted by: SubRosa Apr 2 2020, 04:41 PM

I think Renee put it very well in her final paragraph there. Vinne is an old-school mobster, not a cannibal serial-killer. Watching Vinnie in action is like watching an mob movie - The Godfather of the Wasteland, or Feral Goodfellas.

Posted by: Lopov Apr 2 2020, 07:30 PM

Wonderfully written, Renee, thanks!

If there's one thing that Vinnie is good at, it's adapting to his surroundings. When he realized that his nice outfit won't help him much in the Commonwealth, he needed to start dressing like others. But the hat on his head is still meant to represent the pre-war style.

And if he cared about losing weight at first, now he doesn't anymore, because he sure gained a lot of pounds since being unfrozen. laugh.gif

Posted by: Lopov Feb 4 2022, 10:25 PM

Casey heard a loud metal thud on the other side of the building that once used to be a high pre-war apartment complex.

What the hell...?

He unsheathed his pipe pistol and hurried around.

Power helmet.

Right in front of him, on the pavement, was the power helmet. He looked up to the top of the apartment complex. There was only one person in Lexington who was going around wearing a full set of power armor.

My boss Butch.

Butch would rarely leave the top of the apartment complex and he'd never remove his helmet, except when going to sleep. So how come that his helmet was now down here?

What the f*** happened up there?

Not thinking too much, because thinking wasn't one of his capabilities, Casey ran up the fire staircase all the way to the top of the apartment complex, where Butch used to live. He found his boss, but he was dead. Casey sort of expected this, as soon as he saw his boss' helmet down on the pavement. What he didn't expect was...

...the hole in Butch's cheek.

Not from the bullet, though. It looked like someone viciously bit his cheek, made a big bite actually. Like creatures do.

Yeah, it must have been some creature.

But creatures don't remove helmets. And creatures don't throw helmets around. A wasteland creature couldn't kill Butch that easily.

His fingers firm on the pistol's trigger, Casey thoroughly searched, what once used to be a luxurious apartment with a terrace with a beautiful vista. But whoever or whatever killed Butch, was already gone.
