However, I may have brought that on myself. There's an achievement if you go the whole game with only the gun you get in the beginning. I decided I wanted it on my first play through. That was a very bad idea, though I did finally get that achievement!
Wasn´t that challenge better suited for the second playthrough? It would have been. I got so mad. It took me ages to beat it and my husband finished in under a week because he was using the better weapons. >.>

Dark Souls. Got it because they gave it away free on Xbox Live. Definitely a difficult game. To the extent of not being any fun. Entertaining for a brief time perhaps but it gets annoying getting repeatedly killed by 1-2 enemies while trying to progress a level. Even the training (ringing the bells in the first map) is so brutal it takes hours to complete and it is a relatively small area.

That is my exact experience with Dark Souls ahaha. After a while you just lose the will to try again. State of Decay is pretty difficult. If a character dies then you better hope you have some other high level backups, especially later in the game when there are loads of really tough zombies. Fantastic game though

This bizzare game called Real Life. Sometimes it's so exceedingly unfair that I want to rage quit and mess everyone around me's experience! Grrrr...
Suicidal silliness aside, post-game Dragon's Dogma. Don't get me started on Bitterblack Isle. Oh, and they're making a new MMO-ish title where you can play with other three players. That should be fun. And nerve-wracking.

One joyous thing about my attitude to games is this... If it's hard, it's not enjoyable... That is a personal opinion...and how I feel...So any negative wossnames launched at that will be ignored... ... Basically, RL is challenge enough for me...So if something is too challenging, then it just gets left alone...I will try a couple of times, but if it can't be done without much cursing and adrenaline-level-spiking then it gets put away... Destiny's had a couple of moments where it got far too intense and left alone until McBoy finished it to the end of where it is at the moment and started taking the piss, so I had to do that... But basically, most games with a difficulty slider gets put to the lowest or nearby setting as I really can't be arsed trying anymore... So yeah, Obivion and Skyrim (and Fallout) are essentially God-Mode these days...

I have to mention Super Mario Bros 2, the real Super Mario Bros 2. It only came out in Japan and holy crap on a cracker does it look hard! Constant precision jumping while running and avoiding danger, often all at the same time, and again with that stupid time limit that only adds stress! Still, would like to have it in my collection... Gothic 3. Mechanically, it had many difficulty elements that would later show up in Dark Souls- leveling up costs currency, enemies can easily swarm and stunlock you to death, drinking potions is real-time and can be interrupted, mage enemies can endlessly cast powerful homing attacks at you, some areas are pitch-black without some form of illumination- and then add into the mix a lack of a dodging mechanic, lousy blocking mechanics, bows and crossbows are slower to draw and reload, and the fact that armor is extremely hard to acquire.

It's OK for a game to require that you use a specific mechanic to get past a level, as long as it shows you that in advance, so you know what your options are. The worst games are the ones that throw a seemingly impossible situation at you, and you have to experiment through several reloads before you find the right one. You don't win those by skill, but by luck, which means they don't train any (player) skill, either. You have little sense of achievement if the outcome was essentially random.
