So here I thought we could talk about what we like best about the season weīre currently in, as the headline so deviously revealed... tongue.gif

As I write this itīs summer so thatīs what weīll be talking about now smile.gif

I really like just being at the cottage in the summer. I like riding the mower as itīs a job that doesnīt wear me out laugh.gif and now I also like sitting in the excavator though I donīt really associate it with summer the same way. I like all the green and the sunny mornings and I have no trouble getting up very early just because thereīs beautiful light outside. I like going for a swim at the beach but it has to be warm in the water and yes, I do like the girls there... wink.gif

So what do you like best about the current season? smile.gif

Season 2 of Vikings? I think the best thing is we see more of Lagertha. More importantly, she isn't relegated to the 'housewife' role she had in Season 2. Now she is a Jarl (or at least becomes one), and a real player in events.

Oh wait, you mean the time of year season? I think the best thing about summer is the longer days. The sun comes up sooner, so I get an hour to an hour and a half to sleep in the light before getting up for work. When I was 18 I worked a job on the midnight shift, and ever since then I have always slept better in the daylight than at night.

Also I can keep the windows open. I know some people keep their AC on all summer, and their heat on all winter. But I hate how stuffy the air gets with everything all closed up. Give me fresh air blowing through the house.

Seasonal beer. That counts for every season though. biggrin.gif

I like being able to get outside to exercise during the summer. That counts for a lot of fall too, but winter and most of spring is just too unpleasant around here to go out.

I love the early days. I get up at 0400, and to be able to get out and go for a run around civil twilight and be back before the sun gets high is magical. And in my piece of the high desert mountains, there are no flying biting bugs in the summer (or any other time of year). Oh, and I love what our low humidity does to the heat index: 'Temp is 95; feels like 88'. wub.gif

I've never heard such a thing! There's so much humidity here the air is thick and heavy.

Curious to see "civil twilight" being mentioned as if we'd actually wonder if you meant nautical or astronomical twilight, and needed that kind of precision. biggrin.gif

In Anchorage at this time of year, civil twilight lasts all night. I doubt that's the case where you are. In London, it's astronomical twilight all night.

Lol, I pay attention to it because I go out to run for an hour. Civil twilight here is about 30 minutes before sunrise. Then, because of a taller mountain range to my east, I don't actually see the sun until about 30 minutes after sunrise. Hence, starting at civil twilight, I get one magical hour of adequate light but no actual sunshine - perfect for summer running. As I get back home, the sun is just saying hello. smile.gif

Nah. tongue.gif

On alternate days, I walk over to the gym (about a mile), lift weights, shower and walk home. During the warm half of the year the sun has usually crested the range to my east. Often I get to see it do so. If there are any hints of clouds around, it often creates a magnificent prism effect. Every time I see it I say to myself, "Looks almost as good as the godrays mod." laugh.gif

Another nice thing about mornings in the desert is that you can see about 100 miles - okay, I'm exaggerating, but the clear visibility is wonderful. Later in the day, the heat will begin to blur things and make the distant air look kind of wavy - the stuff desert mirages are made of.

Summer is usually very hot in Slovenia, so it's not my favorite season because I don't tolerate heat very well. Still, what I like the most is that sea is warm enough to swim in and that I don't need to wear many clothes. Another good thing is that during summer we meet with friends more often than usual because most of us have holidays and we have more time to socialize. Oh and another good thing is that when my GF goes shopping, I can wait for her in a nearby bar outdoors, drinking coffee and enjoying the sun - I dislike shopping. rolleyes.gif Well, I can do that in spring too but it's better in summer.

What do I love about summer here in the Midwest?

Lightning bugs.

The late evenings and the long twilights.

The smell of freshly mown grass. More enjoyable now that I'm not the one mowing it . . .

Thunderstorms.

Can't agree with that one. It seems like every time we get one, I lose power, and last night it was just as I started up Skyrim. mad.gif

The local farmer’s market is open on Saturdays, farm stand every day down the street, and tomatoes and herbs growing in my garden. Summer is a great time for eating. smile.gif

Another thing I agree with! biggrin.gif

We always go to this ice cream restaurant in the summer. Amazing creations and equally tasty!

"Conan! What is best about the current season?"

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"
