Welcome to the Tes F'Ruum

to begin there are of course rules in here, the same rules that apply to other places of the forum also apply to this. that means:

NO spamming
NO trolling
NO flaming

aside from that, sinde we're dealing here with the work of people, and with the ideas of people, we're strongly asking you to be civil at all times. rudeness and making a fool of someone or something will not be tolerated. constructive criticism is the word here.

and if you feel you cannot be civil about something, then please just ignore the thread and move on, lest you get yourself in trouble.

with that said, I wish everyone a lot of fun here, and hope to see this become a great place for mods and such.

on behalf of the moderator and admin team,

Firstly, welcome to this, our new base of operations, kindly provided to us by the good people at Waiting4Oblivion. This forum is the crucible for our ideas, the starting point for our projects, and the nexus for our discussions.

Unlike the single thread that we hold on the official TES Forums, feel free to start a completely new thread if you have an idea that you feel warrants it.

I've been made a moderator for this forum, so please act considerately to your fellow members.

So, what is this whole thing about then?

The Library of Tes F'Ruum is a community mod open to all fans of The Elder Scrolls series. The mod itself will be a library, housing books and other pieces written entirely by the fans of these games. That is why this mod is starting so early; we can collect the works now, get the spelling and Lore polished up before the game is released, and once it is, we can build the Library and place all the books inside.

There is a back-story to The Library that is still going through some development, and I'll be writing it as my Founders' Fate, but the main point agreed on so far is that The Library is a secret place. The Librarian, and the other people who helped establish The Library (The Founders), collected extremely rare books and texts, many of which contained great knowledge. Some of the works collected were labelled as heretical by the empire, and instead of shutting The Library down and having all the books lost forever, The Librarian moved The Library to a secret location, and by doing so was himself labelled an Heretic.

So, The Library became something like a secret society for scholars and people who saw past the empire's heretical label.

I'm unsure how the forum software would react in certain occasions, so instead of risking anything, I've reposted these two important posts in my own posts.

How do I contribute my work to the Libary? Well its easy. If you have any work that is fictional you send it to me, Jonajosa. If you have any work that is Non-Fiction then you send it to Stargazey.

Of course you could always send your work to Trokia or Corryn but it will eventually get sent to one of us anyway to deal with. So I recomend sending me or Stargazey your work.

You can also post your work here at the Tes F'Ruum sub-forum. Many others have done that so they could get some feedback on their work. Feel free to do so also if you want. But remember the rule for the Fiction sub-forums, which i will quote from Alex-

QUOTE(jonajosa)
- A good level of spelling and grammar, as using a checking program is not always foolproof. Pieces will have to be read by hand, and this is time-consuming.
- A good knowledge of The Lore, if you intend editing pieces that contain information relating to Lore already in place.

If you match up to these then you can PM Corryn or Trokia and ask to be an editor. We could use all the help we can get and im sure you would be made an editor.

You could also help with the new website which is currently under construction by giving the designers ideas and way to organise things. If you keep that job up and do a good job( goodjob.gif ) at it then you might get a password to actually do some of the work.

But the best way to contribute your services to the library would be to WRITE! Thats right, I said write. By giving us your work you would be making sure the library kept going good and strong. So keep writing all you people and if you arn't writing then nows the time to start.

"Give us your stroies!"- Trokia

How does the editing work? It goes like this in steps;

1) A piece of work is sent in lets say to me.
2) I take note of its name and author and send it off to a editor that is currently available.
3) The work is edited and sent back to me.
4) I go over it and correct any missed mistakes and then put it in the Holding Pen
5) From there it gets another going over before it gets sent finally to the waiting room from where it will be transfered into the game.

Some additional stuff may happen if we run into some problems with lore or somthing so be paitent if you don't see your story up on the website anytime soon.

What goes on in the actual editing? The work is taken and checked over and over for grammer, spelling and lore issues. Only in extreme circumstances will your story actually lose part of its work. Such as if there is any A rated material in a story it will be replaced with somthing more suitable of our choice. You will be notified of any changes and if you don't think our changes were good for your story and you wish to take back your work then you may do so.

Hope that answeres some of those questions.

The books will be in a library. If you wish to participate please write your story and PM one of these people-Corryn, Troika, Jonajosa, Stargazey and Oozae. If you wish to see what books are currently in the library you may go to the old website. The link is at the bottom of the post.

It's back to basics for this mod, as things start to get into motion.

There are lots of changes being put into place, many starting a few minutes ago. The first is that Corryn is now the Official Second-In-Command. He now has the power to update the site, should I once again get hit on the head by a five-ton Acme Anvil of work. All hail Corryn, the Second-In-Command!

So, what other exciting new developments have there been? Well, the interest gathered so far has proven that this is a mod wanted by people; not only as a finished product to download and put into their game, but as something to contribute to the development of. People have reached out beyond this forum, and other TES fans now know of this project. This is where the next, and most fundamental, change lies. This has always been called a community mod, and when I first posted my idea, five threads back, I thought that the mod could be quite easily contained within the community found in this forum. But already it's grown, and so, the definition of which community is creating this mod needs to grow too.

That isn't to say the heart of this mod won't lie here, at the Official TES Forum. I don't have time to take part in any large way in other communities, and I expect the most pieces will still be gathered from the members here.

This mod is now a creation of a much larger community: The online fan base of TES games; and is open to anyone who has an interest in them. But, as I said before, the hub of this creation is right here.

The third change is that the editing process has been set in motion. People are already getting geared up to sift through what we have already. Jonajosa was implemental in getting the editing process started, and I want to thank him for it: we already have a lot of pieces, and if we had waited, as I'd wanted to do, the work would have swamped us. But if we're able to edit works as they come in, it should allow the construction phase of the mod - the final phase - to happen all the more quicker.

To this end, the site will suddenly see itself explode in size, as we have added two entirely new archives, making three in total. The original archive will store all work in its raw form. Editors will then reserve pieces by PMing myself, Corryn, Jonajosa, or Stargazey, and we will tag the specific piece as the responsibility of so-and-so to edit.

When they're through editing, that piece, all shiny and new, will move to the Holding Pen. Here, everyone can look over the edited pieces. If there's still anything not quite right with spelling, grammar or Lore, people can either offer their own tips, or, if it requires a lot of work, can be re-edited. If it goes for a whole month in the Holding Pen without contest, it then makes it to The Waiting Room. Here, our squeaky clean, Oblivion-ready pieces await their caterpillar-like transformation from 'lump of text on cheapie website' to 'bound masterpiece.'

I know what you're thinking: 'this system sounds really clunky and disjointed.' Well, it is. We have one bottleneck in this whole operation, and that bottleneck was GeoCities. We were having to work within the constraints of the tools given us by a free web-hosting company. But now we have a new place to go. Thanks to Alexander, Stargelman, Darkwing and Sinder we now have W40 as a place for our website!

I am re-starting the Editor's List, too. Being an editor is not simple. You need:

- A good level of spelling and grammar, as using a checking program is not always foolproof. Pieces will have to be read by hand, and this is time-consuming.
- A good knowledge of The Lore, if you intend editing pieces that contain information relating to Lore already in place.

You must be on the list of editors to be able to reserve a piece to edit. Any pieces edited by people not named an editor will only be considered after the piece is 'officially' edited.

So, if you want to be an editor, then send either myself or Corryn a PM. I'll edit this post with editors' names as they appear.

Editors List:

Corryn
Phaen
Oozae
WillyBubba
Venom_X
Burntsierra
Stargate525
Stargazey
Forrest_Roberts
Azura's Star
Oni_Tora_
Jackie980
ChadfromCanada
PLEASE NOTE: If you are editing any works, PM myself, Corryn, Jonajosa or Stargazey and let us know, so we can tag that piece and make sure that no two editors are working on the same piece! Thanks.

-Corryn
Just a few things to know to clarify.

The Library currently has a large amount of standard stories, but we need more works such as history, poems, or something that falls under one of the other categories. We still accept stories of course but please consider trying many of the different types of literature.

People that submit a work should remember that they need to put what section of the Library it belongs in above the title and author. Troika and I get a lot of messages and we can't always read everything that comes through to decide where it goes. However if we read it and it belongs somewhere other than where you indicated it will go there.

Remember editors that you should let the person whose work you edited know that you did so they can look through the changes you made once it moves to the Holding Pen. If they have a problem with a change such as a content change we need to fix it.

Remember, we always enjoy new works and appreciate any effort you make. NOW GET BACK TO WORK

-Jonajosa
A rated Material is not to be tolerated on this forum or in the library at all. Keep that in mind when writing a piece of work. We have 0% tolerance for it. I’m counting this as a warning so you have no excuse for not knowing.

The topics you can write about are the following-

Stories
Cook books
Arcane text
Biographies/ Auto biographies
Diaries and logbooks
Guide books
Factual Text
Historical Text
Jokes and Riddles
Misc. texts
Plays
poetry
Race specific Text
Stories

Here is a link to old Libraries Website- http://www.geocities.com/xerxys_librarian/home.html

Here’s a link to the new website- http://tes_fruum.waiting4oblivion.com/home.html

Imperial library, for additional lore help- http://til.gamingsource.net/mwbooks/

If you need examples of a certain topic please go to the website, click on Archives and select the topic you want an example of.

Now we come to the last part of this never-ending post. Positions in the library-

Project Leaders

Troika – the one with the original vision, works (fairly) hard to make sure the project stays heading in the right direction.

Corryn – the 'man on the field.' Keeps things running smoothly from day-to-day, making sure that no document is left undocumented, as well as distributing cake frivolously.

Lead Editors

Fiction

Jonajosa – handles everything the twisted minds of TES fans can come up with that would be considered too strange, even in Tamriel... Also one of the two Moderators for the Tes F'Ruum section here at the W40 forums.

Non-Fiction

Stargazey – from cookbooks to recollections of wars from long ago, Stargazey handles it all with the grace and panache of... um... the Lead Editor for Non-Fiction!

Lore

Oozae – Tamriel has a history, and every passing day is part of that history. Oozae makes sure that everything in the library fits into that history.

Building Projects

Coordinator

Stargate525 – Even though we still have a long wait for the Construction Set that will allow us to build the Library, by getting the main points set in place early, it will ensure the whole process runs as smoothly and swiftly as possible. Stargate525 is the man making sure the decisions are made by all of you, so I don't have to make them myself.

The editors list is above this. They would have come next.

HHGTN (The Hitchhiker's Guide to Nirn)-That is a branch off from the Library which is here. Stargazey planned to make a whole project on nothing but facts about Nirn. So if you have anything that would be True(Non-fiction) it would go there... If you want it to.
The W40 Tes F'Ruum Forum-Our home forum base. It is an area to hang out and discuss ideas or problems. If you want to post your work there you may do so.

HHGTN Forum-The same thing as the W40 Forums except the only things that go there should be related to the project.

The Imperial Library-An excellent source of lore and information on the Elder Scrolls Universe. Many people use this site while writing works in order to help them, but let me make this clear, We are not a branch off the Imperial library and nor is it a branch off of us. It is a completely different website

Now for more information on the newly created project for the Tes F’Ruum mod. It is called Hitch Hikers Guide to Nirn. This project is devoted to collecting as much information as they can about the world of Nirn. Topics for their project can range from common household items all the way to religions and cultures. READ CAREFULLY! Work that goes into the HHGTN project has to be about the size of an article that would go into a news paper. Work that goes into the library can range to any size. Go to the HHGTN forum(link above) to get more information about this project. STRONGLY SUGGEST joining Tes F’Ruum before joining HHGTN. Working with the library for a little e while should help you get a better understanding of what’s actually going on around here.

Hope you enjoy working with us. Thank you and keep writing.
