Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ Old Bethesda forums have been archived

Posted by: Renee Feb 20 2020, 04:42 PM

The old Beth forums were finally slated to close down, this time for good. They'd been in read-only format since some time in 2017, but due to the cost of keeping their security updated, it was looking like they'd close for good this past Monday, February 17th.

Well https://bethesda.net/community/topic/384705/re-update-on-the-old-bethsoft-forums?language%5B%5D=en&page=1. Because holy crap. All those stories. All those pics. All those discussions, good times, modding info, all of that would be gone at the pull of a plug.

Fortunately though, our cries were heard. The forums were left open until March 9 now, but they've already been saved to archive.org.

https://web.archive.org/web/20200213202128/http://forums.bethsoft.com/, for those who ever wish to revisit them. smile.gif I personally am relieved about this, since I had recently begun archiving as many of my own threads as I could. panic.gif A frustrating endeavor, and I'm glad this doesn't have to be done, now.

Thanks for the update, Renee! As someone who doesn't frequent Bethnet I would never have known. It is now archived in my list of links.

Again, thanks! biggrin.gif

I haven't even been to the new Bethesda.Net site in a LONG time but I kinda miss the old site as I've made some really awesome friends there as well as here happy.gif .

Thanks for the link. I couldn't reach the actual forums from it. I'll try again later. I wonder if I'm the last person to post on those old forums? You might remember that, for a while after we were no longer able to add new posts, old posts could still be edited. I took advantage of that and updated one thread a number of times via edits. Leastwise that's how I remember it. Don't recall what thread it was. Likely the thread where we chronicled our Oblivion characters adventures. But maybe not. We shall see.

I had a looksie and found that in my last Character Update thread you are indeed the last poster. No sign of anything being edited though.

And in Renee's last Update thread in the Cheat section, someone else has the last post.

I found it!!!!!!!! It's not what I initially expected, but a thread you might imagine I'd constantly upload. It's in the "Community" forum. The thread? "What Book(s) Are You Reading?," of course. My last 'official' post is dated 28 April 2017, at 0933. But, I updated that post via 'edits' quite a while after that date. Its last entry, provable by an official 'edit' stamp, was made 07 Jun 2017, at 1752, stating that I had finished my seventh read of Robert Jordan's "Eye of the World." Top that!

I haven’t visited the old site since it was made read only. It’s been a while since I visited the Beth.net forums as they became full of nothing but negativity. That and BGS hasn’t been talking about any of their new projects (Starfield, TES6) so I have no real reason to go there.

Yeah last time I went there was with a Skyrim bug that got ignored, and the bug still happens.

I miss the old forums. sad.gif

Nice to hear they have been saved. Who knows if I'll ever really go back to check it out, but it's nice to know that it will be available.
