RIP Jimmy Buffet. Think I’m going to insist on getting a cheeseburger today in his memory.

Bob Barker, long-time host of both Truth or Consequence and The Price is Right, very popular TV shows in their day, pass on 26 Aug, only a few months shy of his hundredth birthday.

Phyllis Coates, the first, short-lived Lois Lane in the long ago TV Superman series, passed on 11 Oct 2023, age 96. For the last some years prior to her demise, she was the sole surviving member of that cast. I prefer her portrayal of Louis over that of her replacement.

Though already mentioned elsewhere, I again report the passing, early last week, of my aunt, age 96, the last of our clan of her generation. She and her husband, who lived to be 91, were among the best people I've known, real "salt of the earth" folk. (We had little to do with the rest of the clan, for reasons it is not my place to divulge.) My brother and I attended the visitation, service, and burial yesterday, 17 Feb 2024. A three-plus hour drive each way, in freezing temps! We also attended an after-burial clan get-together/lunch, held at what has been, from as far back as I can remember up until now, my aunt and uncle's home. I've many fond memories of visits there during my youth. It somehow seemed much larger back then. My cousin, their son, a playmate of mine back in the day, now looking every inch the elder citizen, says they'd like to keep the home in the family . . . if possible.

Attendance at all these events was noticeably less than at my uncle's burial some years back, which is to be expected with the older generations of our clan fading away at an ever-increasing rate. I myself was in doubt of being able to attend up until the last minute, due to a nasty lung-related ailment I've suffered from off and on since a few days before Christmas last.

Sorry to hear, Decrepit. Yah as we get older, we start to go one by one.

The Surviving Silent Film Actors roster is now reduced to a measly two, following the passing of Mildred Kornman on 21 Aug 2022, age 97.

(link) Here's her Wikipedia entry (link)

Note that Wikipedia has her pass on the 19th. Other sources say the 21st.

This is amazing, someone keeps track of this.
