Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ Imgur

Imgur is the site a lot of us use to post linked pictures. We click on the link in somebody's story or screenshots post, we see the picture.

Except sometimes the picture (the screenshot) often does not pop up on its own; in the background we'll often see the actual Imgur website. And then we must click on the picture to enlarge it. Except the picture won't go full screen (or even near full screen). It merely covers most of the Imgur page, which is still in the background.

This happens for me when using any internet browser except ancient Internet Explorer, oddly. Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge usually require two clicks. IE, oddly, only requires one.

https://i.imgur.com/WLykwHg.png. Sometimes that picture I just posted will go full screen. Of course, now that I'm making this thread it pops up all the way, making me a feel little embarrassed. embarrased.gif Often though the pic won't go full screen. And I'll need to click on it a second time to make it go full screen.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? laugh.gif I wonder if I'm the only one.

Because I find clicking on the picture that second time to be left-brain activity. Active, not passive. I click on the link, my brain expects to see a picture, and the neurons in my brain expect to take in this picture while everything else fades away for a few moments. Instead, I am often clicking on the picture a second time, and my brain does not get the artistic reward it expects. That second click is an action, not an experience. Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

I know ghastley and Lena have their own websites, or have their pics hosted on websites, but I assume those are paid. I am already paying for Photobucket and Imgur both. I don't want to pay some other website...

MY question: does anybody know a surefire way to simply make Imgur do what I want, every time? Display only the pic, without the Imgur website background?

Imgur behaves the same way for me, just as you describe.

As for where I host my pictures - it's on my blog site hosted by WordPress.com. It is FREE up to 3GB. When you fill that up, you simply start a new blog with them - and again, it is FREE. They make their money from people who have elaborate blogs - I don't, default tools are good enough for me. biggrin.gif Oh, and you don't need to have any blog pages actually, you could just use the media library.

Yes, I know what you are talking about. You're example is how the picture appear if they are linked from someone other than me.
Funny thing is when I go back to view a picture linked in my own Jandaga memoires only the small picture appears. It also does not include the number of views information. I kind of miss that.

This seemed to change for me in 2018. I can view links full screen from 2017, strange.
Now I don’t pay for a subscription so I would ask is there a benefit to do so?

Nope. Pics still open (for me) fully if I use Internet Exploder, but if use other browsers this is hit or miss. I only pay $5.00 a month partially out of guilt, because I add a lot pics into Imgur, some which I don't even use!

Photobucket costs roughly $65.00 a year (they want yearly payments). I only that because if I don't, they put a stupid PB logo over all the pics in my older stories. mad.gif

Maybe I'll just start using Photobucket again for linked pics. Although I also hate the way Photobucket organizes our pics into ONE large page instead of multiple pages. rolleyes.gif In general, PB is owned by the Devil. devilsmile.gif But I already pay money there so what the hey?

Thanks Lena. I may consider this eventually. Maybe this winter when I start playing Skyrim again. That would be fun to have a separate blog site for Laprima's tale alongside of the actual story here at Chorrol.

In my experience, you get the full image without any visible Imgur site if you copy/paste the "direct link" instead of the other options.

I think the main thing that forces it to display fullscreen on the first view is the extra "i" before the rest of the filename.

Or at least it used to be. They may have changed it.

Yes, that is what I do Kane, I copy the Direct Link part. I usually then open a new page and then paste the link into the page's URL section. Click Enter so I'm now looking at the full image. Then I copy the link again and paste it here at Chorrol. This process usually allows the link to open fully for ME.

Sometimes I also right-click on the link (the link here at Chorrol) and select one of the options. I forget which one. It's got a funny name. But if I right-click > choose this option, my pictures always open fully, but nobody else's do. sad.gif

SubRosa yeah I have tried the double I thing. Again, it's hit or miss. Unless I Use I. Explorer, which oddly opens full every time.

Thanks for your ideas and feedback, folks. Hug_emoticon.gif

Right-click on the link, and choose "View in Incognito Window" pulls up the full pic every time. Can't do this with all imgur links on all computers, but on my laptop this works. goodjob.gif

Thanks for the tip. I don't have "View in Incognito Window" but "Open link in InPrivate window" works in a similar fashion. Window10 thing I guess.

I've never had it do that to me on my own links at least, and most of the forums I frequent embed images so there's no external link clicking.

I use the direct image link or it doesn't embed, and I use Chrome.

Really weird if it's doing that for you.

Posted by: Renee Oct 16 2021, 01:36 AM

Yeah it is weird, Sakiri and macole. smile.gif But I'm getting to the point that I know a few tricks, at least.

Internet Explorer -- Usually Imgur pics open every time, assuming the link is posted in the way SubRosa mentioned above: an extra i goes in front of the imgur link. If the link hasn't got that extra i, I'll have to add a .jpg or .png at the end of a pictures's URL name. So for example, whenever I view Lopov's or macole's pics through Internet Explorer, I'll have to add .jpg or .png and I'm not sure why this is.

Google Chrome -- Right-click and choose View in Incognito Window. macole can do the same thing, but he chooses Open Link InPrivate window instead.

Firefox -- Not sure. I stopped using FF. Never liked it as much as the others.

Microsoft Edge -- Not sure, I don't use this to view older sites like Chorrol smile.gif I prefer IE for that. But I imagine Edge has got some similar trick as Chrome does.

Question: How do you change name/headline on a picture? I have done it with one or two but can't remember how and can't find the way to do it again.

Click on any image (you want to change) in your IMGUR library. You then get the window that includes different ways to link the image, screen-right. Immediately above the uppermost link option, there's a clickable option to "View or Edit Post". Click it. You will now see, among other things, a way to add/alter image Name and Description.

I rarely name my pictures but sometimes I want to and thankfully now I can always come back here and check.

Much obliged! smile.gif
