Chorrol.com _ Fan Art _ Another brilliant piece of commedy :P

Posted by: Ze Milanio Mar 23 2006, 11:53 AM

Okay... since Stargelman is wayyy to busy to keep track of everything right now I've decided to ask you, Honorable Forumites, for opinions - and if majority likes this pic, I'll annoy Starge in the future with it. As you may or may not know I suck as an artist, in terms of drawing even a simple stick figure *inserts paperbag smilie here* however, when it comes to weapons, it's just a bit different story... so, without furder delay, I present you all my last work:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/nailbringer05.jpg

This is, of course, a 1280 x 1024 wallpaper of a 3d weapon model, in this case an ancient Dwemer-made Vampiric Mace. Its look is simple, just as most of Dwemer designs, without any engravings or ornaments; its state also isn't all corrosion, but something more malevolent - there are bits and pieces of flesh, as well as dried blood, actually absorbed by that mace on its surface... and that is why it looks like that biggrin.gif
The name itself is wacky - I listened the last Nine Inch Nails album, "With Teeth", for hours while making this nasty mace, and in the end, when my brain was totally cooked, name just popped out - a vicious name for a dark, twisted, life-consuming weapon.

And now, PLEASE, be brutally honest... it sucks owl, doesen't it ? tongue.gif

Posted by: vaanic~one Mar 23 2006, 12:07 PM

That rocks! I love the way that it's arranged as a star.

Okay, you asked for it. biggrin.gif. To be BRUTALLY honest, I personally think that the spikes could be a little more ornate then just normal cones, know what I mean?

Also, perhaps some savage decoration on the curved parts, that would be cool.

Of course, those are just matters of opinion, nothing else. smile.gif

Actually, that was on my mind all the time, but then I thought: "wait a minute; this is a thousand-year-old weapon, with absolutely no known heritage" (well, it's lost in the time, anyway) - and so, I made it like that on purpose (not because I'm a lazy basta*d biggrin.gif); whatever markings, ornaments or insignia it had on itself in the past is now completely lost - the whole surface is just one monstrous 'living' alloy of corroded, blood-drenched iron. Seriously, this is no fun weapon; it looks scary and ugly and bites in the same way ohmy.gif

But really...I can't say it sucks becasue it's...too good to suck laugh.gif Besides, I can't model for my life...unless someone would like to teach me? Eh, eh??

*puts on Teh Paperbag* uuuh, what's a *.NIF ? blink.gif You can't moddel, and I can't MOD to save my life, so I'd say we're evenly matched biggrin.gif it can be converted to 3DS, although...

Posted by: Ola Martin Apr 6 2006, 11:03 PM

.NIF files is the files that is used for the moddels in Morrowind and Oblivion, with an older verion of 3dmax you can convert it to .NIF by using a plugin. I'd like that moddel in the game too biggrin.gif And to be honoust I think it's better than many of the moddels in oblivion ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tellie Apr 12 2006, 01:14 AM

Ok, I just found this one at the web...decided I wanted to share it in this little commedy thread...hehe.

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/hobbits

This is a quite funny if you're a bit tired and need a little pick me up....

Posted by: Ze Milanio Apr 14 2006, 12:16 AM

Meh, no need for flash commedy yet biggrin.gif but things are starting to heat up here - http://chorrol.com/files/399/prev2.jpg is a sword that I wanted to do for a long, long time; it is not finished yet, but I'll see what can be done to place engraving or two around... stay tuned, folks, 'cause this is far from over.

EDIT: Changed picture in the link - I've added those pesky daedric engravings that were bugging me for a while wink.gif now all that remains is for me to think up something for that middle wide area...

Posted by: Soulseeker3.0 Apr 14 2006, 02:20 AM

well I'd have to be honest with you, that isn't half bad. A bit more details and it could be great

Posted by: Ze Milanio Apr 25 2006, 01:18 PM

Okay... it's been a while and I had some other things to do (don't we all ?) but I've managed to do a not-so-simple engraving which ate much of my time and nerves wacko.gif now, http://chorrol.com/files/407/st_detail1.jpg is an african ornament I borrowed from - of all places! - http://www.simplybaskets.com/African_Traditional_Tribal_Art_Plaque_Basket_6.html ... other details of finished sword model are here:
http://chorrol.com/files/408/st_grip.jpg
http://chorrol.com/files/405/st_side1.jpg
http://chorrol.com/files/406/st_side2.jpg (yeah, Rane, laugh your owl off tongue.gif)

As much as I tried to keep it all simple and low-poligonal, it didn't work sad.gif the text meshes are huge and although they look better than simple bump mapping I will probably discard them in order to simplify the model. After all, 3500 polygons are waaaay better than 30000.

Posted by: The Wolf Apr 25 2006, 03:58 PM

Very nice.

But I'm dying out of curiousity now about the text. wink.gif

Posted by: DarkHunter Apr 25 2006, 11:03 PM

Its sweet looking, like said before a little more oranate, and I don't see how it's funny...

It is daedric writing that says "Edge of the lighning" on one side and "Bringer of the storm" on the other.

It is funny, believe me, how I pretend to know things about moddeling, writing, art... my brain is a stirred-up, chaotic hot soup of ideas that rarely get shapes - but anyway, when they do they can look a bit decent, I guess.

Why would I mind ? blink.gif It's in the 'wallpapers' section for a purpose... although I must admit that this time I've overdone it with the blue color wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif I seriously wanted to do lightnings, comming out of the sword, but I've only found one plugin for 3ds Max that does realistic lightnings, and it costs money - A LOT of money... so I guess this will have to do.

All this weaponry is havokingly awesome, Milanius! Minque and everyone are right - you are the ultimate SwordsMaster. That Dwarven Axe viking.gif is driving me wild too - besides the Stormbringer sword. I'm so excited ... I think I'm gonna wet myself!! embarrased.gif Heyah - by spilling my drink of course. Agrghhh!! Not the purple chair!!

I definitely will join Minque in saluting you with a toast and I know Minque so I know it will be severallllll toasts. hahaha I will bring my best Sunhold Champagne and we can all drink to your weapon smithing genius. You can work your metal forge drunk, right?? Oh yeah, your Serbian - of course you can!! Teasing, just teasing .... goodjob.gif

okay... here's another http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/Avengerpreview.jpg
*yawns* you have no idea how hard can it be to try & create things... that end of the handle, which has to be pure silver, unlike the handle itself, is driving me nuts. This is far, far, FAAAAAR from over.

edit: ah, yea, it won't be ALL silver, y'know, the handle (and some decorations, if I manage to get it right for a change) will be Jade, gleaming green, and that jewel in the end will be Emerald - Silver & Green... Dark Hunter will finaly have some worthy weapon to chop my PC in 2 halfs laugh.gif

Posted by: Ibis Aug 19 2006, 06:38 PM

* Ibis falls to knees and worships at the DarkHunter Jade/Emerald Axe. (Now to kill off DarkHunter with NailBringer or Stormbringer in order to have Emerald-Jade for my own??? MY PRECIOUS.... puuuurrrr *

OMG, too wonderful Milanius. Keep them coming please. We really appreciate your weapon molding talents. Please take a short nap since you are so *yawn* tired from your creative burst of brilliance. Can't wait to see it retextured !!!!!

Damn those snakes... and the plane. I've dropped the initial idea of turning them arround the entire axe, because it proved to look like crap, so I just put 2 smaller, flatter snake ornaments on sides. Also, that emerald gemstone in the handle's end is simplified.
Now, teh fun begins. I have to hunt down textures & toy with them for hours... so please, don't go chewing nails.

Posted by: Ibis Aug 23 2006, 06:37 AM

OH yes ... delicate snakes, I love them! They are fitting the handle perfectly without being overpowering. (Like I suppose they took over the plane. think that's one movie I'll skip. lol) It's looking great, Milanius. goodjob.gif

Major update.
When inspiration comes by you and winks in your direction, you have to runt towards like Carl Lewis, grab her and squeeze it in your arms like it was your sweetheart, no matter what. My head hurts, I am 95% certain that I didn't do a decent job on the metal reflection [as usual tongue.gif] and I am still figuring out if I should put some celtic engravings on the axe's head [needed, really], but I can be at least proud of the fact that I gor the damn handle well enough smile.gif

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/omgevenmoresnakes.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/avangerhandle.jpg

I'll probably do some engraving bumpmaps, but that'll be tricky, though, because I suck with 3ds.

Posted by: Ibis Aug 23 2006, 06:41 PM

OMFG ... Milanius!!! That is gorgeous!! My hands are getting sweaty just wanting to wrap around that cool enticing jade grasp. And the emerald is stately and beautiful. Such good good weapon-smithy work. Your shop would be a place of interest all over the Empire, were we really in Tamriel.

Brilliant idea to color marble green, you got a wonderful pattern and texture going there. OHHHH, I can't wait to swing THAT EMERALD EQUALIZER ingame. Hahaha, even the biggest Ogrims & Orcs wouldn't bother me, would they??

It's delirium, I tell ya. The entire morning I had a slightly higher temperature [just over 37 Celsius], my head aches still, but my stomach is is in tremendous uproar [I am avoiding to say "pain" so you wouldn't worry yourselves] and my whole body feels fuzzy, weird, ill... I should be resting & drinking camile tea, but no, I had to do this. And yes, I am having coffee [you only live once]. Posted by: Ibis Aug 24 2006, 04:00 PM

OHH Milanius! Our weaponsmithy has worked himself into a fervor ... please stop just a bit and do have some chamomile tea. It really does sooth the tummy and calm the nerves. Wait, I have some in the cupboard ... I will brew a nice batch, pour it into a zip pitcher and email it to you ....

==================

I see the chamomile or coffee helped the mood .... Avenger is absolutely awiesome!!!!
Fantastic!! The snake patterns/carvings on the axehead are to die for! viking.gif viking.gif viking.gif

*Shall we tell the people secretly that we are working together to bring these weapons into their hands in a Morrowind mod?? It'll be awhile though ... the comversion into 3dsmax5 to the 3D Importer program still has to be learned and executed. Anyone with expertise in this field could be kind enough to pm me with advice or a tutorial link if you feel like expediting our progress.*

Ach, sorry - did a bit of restructuring today *embarraced*
But anyhow, here it is - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/reaver.jpg

EDIT: sadly, the pic you're seeing is not valid any longer, since I've screwed up and didn't back my data properly. Now I'll have to texture the damn thing again from ACAD file and it'll probably look a bit different... at least that's not gone too.

EDIT2: Phew! Finished the model again and [slaps his own head] now it is backed up. Changed the straps on grip to leather.

Posted by: Ibis Oct 22 2006, 10:59 PM

Oh Milanius .. I am so glad you managed to save the Reaver model! Would hate to have you lose such a gnarly impressive looking blade. Should I call it a huge dagger or is it a shortsword? It is beautiful either way.

Posted by: milanius Oct 23 2006, 11:48 AM

It's a huge dagger, Ibis, and I don't really know what material is that :\ maybe it could be some superpolished black ebony, with the golden knot markings ? Meh, some friends are advising me to make the knots same color/material as the entire knife - I am not sure, though. Now that I have it backed up I'll just fool arround with it a bit.

Posted by: Ibis Oct 23 2006, 03:23 PM

Hmmm, I like the golden knot. It really stands out on the dark metal. But it might look nice different too.

Posted by: milanius Oct 31 2006, 05:41 PM

Hmmmm, those are my exact thoughts - still, I can't make that kind of 'blackness' to FEEL like a metal - instead, it resembles some other material [black volcanic glass, non-translucent? Ebony???] more than it does metal.
Like I said, this is one of my more complex things so far, I'll be sure to fool arround with it some more... dialup is a bit*h, but at least it offers me more time offline tongue.gif

Blood, sweat and a [much more than] few tears... that's how I've learned to make NIF's.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/works/Z_dagger_preview.jpg

The blade in this screenshot is actually the unoptimized version of model which I had to roughen up a bit in order to cut down some 4000 polygons indifferent.gif making the blade was much easier, though, than learning how to make it reflexive. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/screenshot_final.jpg is how it looks in MORROWIND.

Hmmm. How 'bout a http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v462/Milanius/Dragon1.jpg instead?

This was a side project, while I was occupied with several other things, including Zarrexaij's dagger; it turned out nice but there are 3 problems I am faced with now: 1. The gloss that has to appear like gold isn't so apparent on the flatter parts of the sword; 2. Textures are lousy and I have to make/find & steal some other for the 'amethyst' parts as well as the blade; 3. Even if this all is done, due to the problems with bump mapping [the absence of it in MW, to be precise] my model was made as complete mesh, once again - and, once again, the poli count is trough the roof... nearly 9300 polygons sad.gif any attempt to lower the polis resulted in model looking like crap, so it's safe to say that this will overcook your PC if it's not up to par with latest gaming software [luckily, most of you don't have to worry about it].

But aside from all that, it's still one mean mother of a sword, a bit huge even for my taste, but good. Next time I'll really make something less complex, I promise tongue.gif

p.s.: Aside from making models and [thankfully now] putting them into MW, I still know nothing about making more complex mods tongue.gif I'll try to learn that too, so that you don't just walk into some cave in Vvardenfell [Cyrodiil?? OB mod, perhaps?] and find it laying on the floor... a hostile NPC wielding it, at least, would be nice.

Posted by: milanius Mar 2 2007, 12:55 AM

sorry for the double post, but during a not-so-small break [which got few people worried :\ since I was a dumbass, not saying a thing to anyone] I managed to venture a bit into other things. Results are my first shield and helmet - not very neatly shaped, but decent. High-poli, too... if I manage to make a proper NPC with dialogues and quest, it'll be my first mod.

The only notes I keep readable & in order are my modding ones. blink.gif

Amazing how procrastination and lack of creativity work well to produce mediocre results.

Very nice Dagger Mil, i personally liked the leather thing better, but there is something about a pure golden dagger that is appealing. Nice work either way. heh, better then what I could rustle up biggrin.gif

New thing ahead, I might even completely ditch dagger for now:

The black thing inserted in the end of handle is onyx [can be changed to something else, if needed]. Handle is polished cherry wood, since you lot like it more than solid gold. It still needs more work.

Both very nice Mil. I too liked the wooden handle on the dagger; made the gold stand out more to have a contrasting texture. And the Altmer sword is sweeping, sheer magic ... makes me long for my beautiful Altmer spellsword from Morrowind again.

"And now, for something completely different-"

This is a 'simple' two-hander for a simple fighting character from Zarrexaij's D&D campaign. The unusual* thing is, the character's a Dwarf and this greatsword is at least good 4 inches [or 10cm] taller than him. With it, however, he could/would become whirlwind macabre, slicing trough armor and meat alike.

*[the character is also unusual in many aspects; some of the things involve fantasies about Halfling females and narcolepsy, so choosing a greatsword for a sidearm is the least eccentric thing about him]

Woo-Hoo! Shiny! (Gratuitous Firefly reference). Very nice work, Mil. I have played a few dwarves in D&D who tended to like weapons that were larger than themselves- usually two-hand axes. (Overcompensate much?)

Sword bigger than the man himself? I know one of those. biggrin.gif Yeah, those things are always funny, mostly because it is somewhat ridiculous. How the hell does he sheathe it?

I like the sword itself, size notwithstanding.

There is only one thing I don't like. There are no tabeltop rpg-players anywhere where I live. Dammit!

Not really. They're out to prove all the snottier, prettier, taller races that a smaller humanoid can handle their own preferred weapons in a superior way. No wonder preferred class is Fighter; they're built for manufacture and warfare, not ballroom dancing.

He doesn't sheathe it; instead, he flungs it in a harness-like thing diagonally over his back [similar to Scot's claymores]. That way, the weapon can be reached quickly with the right hand.
