Blimey!!... biggrin.gif ...

Awright mate!!...

An excellent chapter, as ever...

That was so cool...Possibly the discussion on the finer points of the digestive system could have been...Lesser...(Perhaps more fiber?)...But that's just me... biggrin.gif ...

But loved the idea of his breaking in to the place...

Nicely done that man!!...

Nice one!!...

Another very good part, and it's good to see Sethyas back on form with stealthing it up. Like a bawss.

QUOTE("Black Hand")
Just like a few years prior, when I was a Journeyman Thief and sent too Sugar-Lips Habasi at the Imperial Spymaster, Caius Cosades behest, to further my stealth skills, I wandered through the fort at dusk.

You might want to reword that sentence, as at the moment it's rather clumsy and awkward to read. Aside from that, though, an excellent read, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming next (I never actually played this part of Bloodmoon).

Read and re-read because, well, just because....but a little late in commenting. Between my youngest playing baseball on two teams and doing some house painting I've been a bit short on time....

It's nice to see Seth settling into his most comfortable place, it's nice to know that whatever he does, wherever he goes, some things never change. He is the most formidable enemy OR ally depending on which side of the line you should fall.

I sure hope Uncle Seth passed on more than just sword or bow training because I think Athynae may need to be able to think WAY outside the box real soon.

Good stuff BH, thanks. Can't wait for more.

Nicely done that....

Looking forward to more...

Ahhhh the old Seth....as i used to know him! Sneaking into offices going through documents ahaha...great! Now I think he made the right choice....nevertheless let's just see where it takes him....

QUOTE
"This stuff certainly helps keep me warm all the way up here. I think I understand the Nords a little better now." Falco joked. "Could I interest you in a glass?"

"I could be convinced." I replied as he filled up a simple clay goblet .

Oh yeah? You could, could you Seth? I have no doubt you were very easy to convince! tongue.gif

Niiiiiice to see Seth on the move again....

Our favorite assassin is settling right in. I am certainly glad he decided to investigate then decide, I do hope that he keeps his ears up as he has always taught Thyna to do.

I enjoy every word, SGM...

Good job here Sethyas! You handled the situation in a good way. Now if I were you I would not entirely trust that Apronia woman....But you can handle it...ehhh i am almost sure you can.

Very pleasant surprise to hear more from you BH....Always make me smile....

Woah, I am loving this story! Solstheim has always been one of my favorite locations in the Elder Scrolls franchise. I look forward to more on this story, you peaked my interest.

So, Falco sends our Morag Tong fellow to deal with the captain. Surprisingly no blood was shed here. Yet, anyway. I see he chose the diplomatic approach.

Look forward to more!

I really enjoyed reading some more from Sethyas. It made me break out the tea I hoard for special occasions. smile.gif May your winter holidays bring peace and joy!

No clothes, no extra blankets, foodstuffs, no wooden spoons or blue jars, or scuttle, or saltrice, or one to twelve gold coins, or a petty soul gem, or a large quantity of iron arrows. It was bare.

I see what you did there...

It's good to see Sethyas kicking around once more, and it's nice to see the colony development on Solstheim; I never really played that part of Bloodmoon, so this is currently new and interesting territory for me, and it's a fun exploration of it all, especially since you've managed to do a really good job of capturing the frontier town feel to the place. Great stuff! smile.gif

To add a little emphasis to my skill I looked cockeyed right behind them, and had left with the door slightly ajar without making sound by the time they looked back to where I had been standing.

That made I laugh!!... biggrin.gif ...

Fair dues, pretty brilliant stuff, as ever...

I'm a relative latecomer to the story, so I had no idea of the retconning thing, therefore I will simply say that I loved the whole history thing herein...Indeed... biggrin.gif ...

Brilliant stuff...

QUOTE
I stopped him with a raised hand. “You know now what Magius is capable of. He himself is no fool, and can read people far better than you. If I tell him, he knows who is telling him it, and he knows the consequences of trying similar tactics on me as he did with Maren.”

Falco stopped for a moment, and for the first time since our friendship, I saw a little fear enter his eyes when he looked at me. He understood what I was trying to say, without saying it.

I love these teeny quiet little threat things where you really do think that should he want to, the whole colony would die quietly and without any one else seeing a damn thing...Brilliant character...

Fantastic stuff, sorry it took so long to get around to telling you so...

Nice one!!...

Having recently started exploring Solstheim in the Dragonborn expansion, I did find myself thinking "Isn't that where Black Hand was on about?". Doesn't look half as good as your description of the place makes it... wink.gif ...

Brilliant stuff, as always...

I really hope Carnius gets his handed to him in short order...Nicely done with the boo-hiss baddie... biggrin.gif ...

Looking forward to more...

Sethyas is back!!

So there's going to be an investigation into the Falmer, then? That'll be interesting, certainly; are you incorporating Skyrim lore about the Falmer into this or is it sticking to the Morrowind line of 'we haven't seen them yet'?

Also, you seemed to have some really odd usage of capitalisation and apostrophes at points within this chapter, stuff like:

QUOTE
how he was a Scholar as well as a Noble back in the Sumurset Isles.

QUOTE
Divayth Fyr is one of the Eldest Mortals to walk the Mundus at four thousand years, and one of the most powerful Sorcerer's to have existed. My hands have slain the Dagoth's of Vvardenfell that were at least that old.

QUOTE
The Miners and Dock Workers flocked into our relatively large tavern.

It's kind of wierd how the profession, like 'scholar' and 'miners and dock workers' are capitalised; it's a title, of sorts, but it shouldn't be. Again, it's the same case with 'eldest mortals', and to be honest I have no idea why you put capitals on that one. It just looks odd now, and it seems to happen all the time, which was kind of jarring to read. Also, 'sorcerers' and 'Dagoths' shouldn't have apostrophes, as they aren't meant to indicate possessives.

I loved this line! smile.gif

Now then! Brilliant Blackie! Soooo our Seth..Dralas is going into the Falmer-stuff? That is very interesting I'm so looking forward to it.

I love the "lore" parts in your story...gives it body so to say.

Now Seth..take it easy in that bar, don't drink too much biggrin.gif

I also loved the reminder of northern Solstheim...I really enjoyed that Skyrim DLC...Wonderful place...

And then...Enter Pene!!...

Loved the way that you had the drink continue to affect him...Perhaps a lesson learned here...Although you'd think he'd know better at his age... biggrin.gif ...

Loved the way Falco was backing away from him when he was waving the knife...And then the headache because he'd forgotten how to dispel the Night-eye made me laugh... biggrin.gif ...

And I've caught up! biggrin.gif

It's still a fantastic story, so I'm absolutely delighted to see it's being continued, I'm just sorry I was away for so long that it's taken me a while to get up to date. One thing that is interesting - when you have such a lot to read - is that you see how styles change over a period of time. Our assassin has slowly started to change from an "all action" character, into a much more measured character. He weighs things up, anticipates and reads people. You always had an interesting lead, but now... he's a damn sight more interesting. And believeable. And sympathetic. And just coool!

More please wink.gif And I must admit, I'm looking forward to the moment where assassin meets assassin again. The idea of flare spells to disrupt nighteye was inspired...

I laughed at his predicament in the Bath tub! Poor guy, I mean doesn't people know it's customary to KNOCK before just barging in like that..

Anyway I'm looking forward for the moment when Seth meets the other assassin..THAT will be quite something

As usual I want to compliment you for your brilliant writing!

Soooo S.G.M!!

laugh.gif ...Bless him, all he wanted was a nice quiet bath... biggrin.gif ...

So much of that made me laugh... laugh.gif ...Loved it...

QUOTE
I stopped as he opened the door, and came in. Why didn't they install a damn latch on that door?

"There's been a discovery in the mine! I need someone with your acumen in adventuring to give it a trained eye!" He said excitedly.

I coughed as I gave him an annoyed stare.

"What? Oh, the bath? Don't flatter yourself, you've got nothing I haven't seen before. I have children for Stendarr's sake!" he laughed it off.

Loved the whole thing with the hunter and Thirsk and stuff...

So, as you (He) are (is) Athynae's (the character, not the poster tongue.gif ) Uncle Seth...Presumably this is the Thirk Mead Hall™ as in the whole Athlain/Athynae BOTM thing?...Or have we previously established that this isn't quite the same universe and is two steps removed from that one?...And I've just forgotten it... mellow.gif ...See, I'm hard of thinking and get a wee bit lost sometimes... biggrin.gif ...

Brilliant and thought provoking stuff in part 2...Very excellent writing right there...

Loved the appearance of Pene in this section...She's a very cool character...

That was simply brilliance right there that was...

Reinhardt's just amazingly done...I absolutely loved that he was so in tune with everything that he knew he was being watched and made breakfast for them...And then that bit with knowing the other wench was there 'cause of the lack of noise...

I actually know what you mean with that...It's the same in work, if something sounds different, it needs looking at... smile.gif ...

Loved the shot and then falling out of the tree...She's not having much luck though is she... biggrin.gif ...

Looking forward to wherever this goes...Although, obviously Badgetto don't give one really... tongue.gif ... biggrin.gif ...

QUOTE
I just didn’t think I would have ended up killing one of my only friends..” I began to sob again quietly.

Aww Seth.....

But you didn't know it was her, right?

Now what? Seth is loosing too many women in his life....poor soul how will he handle this?

Posted by: Grits Jun 23 2013, 03:07 PM

My favorite moment was Pene’s look at Seth as they walked to retrieve Coventia’s body. I’ve enjoyed watching her subtle development.

Posted by: McBadgere Jun 25 2013, 01:05 PM

There is much to love about this chapter...

The Skaal were excellently done...Graring was a blast!...

QUOTE
“This is the only thing I know of that can harvest the stalhrim; and for Shor’s sake stop calling it ‘sacred’!”

QUOTE
“Also, yer friend outside is ready to take with ye. Normally, I’d just as soon let the horker have ‘er, but, ye seem to know her, and I’ll not disgrace anyone who has tears shed over their passin’.”

I absolutely loved these two quotes...Just brilliant stuff...

Stalrhim was definitely my fave armour/weapon type...Fantastic stuff, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing the quests in the village to acquire it...

Plus, I loved the way you had the pickaxe there, and not some quest reward right at the start...Sort of thing...Brilliantly done..

Excellent stuff...

Love it!!...

Nice one!!...

More fun with Sethyas's magnificent attempts at coffee brewing. Hooray!

That said, good on Falco for appreciating a nice dark roast. I too like my coffee darker than Nocturnal's night. Can't make a good Ristretto if it's cut with milk or cream. Falco's speech through the preparation process is a nice bit of insight into the man's philosophy. I can just imagine Carnius trying to rush the process to extract the coffee as quickly and in as much volume as possible, only to have a ruined product and scalded taste buds to show for it.

Some nits:

QUOTE(Black Hand @ Jun 30 2013, 12:37 PM) *

I finished my lonely requiem for Coventia, when I saw the shadows being cast from the rising sun behind us. The whole experience was a very dark one for me, and my life was a series of dark events, it seemed. It was hard not too focus on them, being that the whole reason for my exile was the knowledge I had gained in the Ald-Ruhn marketplace. Yet, I still lived and breathed. In a way, that was enough. One of the more grim assassins in the Morag Tong used to tell us that to see the face of your victim after the deed was done, should be an uplifting experience. It meant you were alive, and had survived the encounter. I just couldn’t see things in that light right now. Too me, it was just another brick added to the burden I carried.

The highlighted "too's" show where a few too many o's were added improperly to some "to's". Namely, in the infinitive usage ("I want to run away.") and the prepositional usage ("I gave a birthday gift to me.") use only the one 'o' "to." Since you use it properly elsewhere in the post, as well as the otherwise appropriate use of "too" for the accompaniment usage and adverb-of-excessiveness usage, I think it's an error in muscle memory of double-tapping the "O" key on your keyboard or your auto-correct playing mean mind games on you, like a legendary Daedric quill that gets sent by the Madgod.

There are others in the rest of the post, I just thought I'd point it out so you can go a-hunting for warward "o's" and harvest them before you run out.

QUOTE
So if I learned anything from the responses of the last update, is that I can't write for carp! tongue.gif

Have you tried writing for salmon? I hear it's supposed to boost brain power, and according to a man by the name of Adams, may also be full of doubt.

That aside, proper use of 'too' and 'to' this time. Good job.

Nice way to combine Seth...er, Dralas's first real experience with a Solthseim blizzard and the introduction to Ulfgar the..., er, just Ulfgar. Particularly the fact that he keeps the Old Way and would honor the precepts of Sacred Hospitality or Guest-Right. In our world, Odin would be proud. I am sure the same applies to Shor in this far-flung corner of all that is.

I can't find fault in your knowledge of hypothermia, its onset and treatment, and I speak from everything just short of firsthand experience. I did learn from Ski Patrol rescuers that have probably seen a case every year. Not fun stuff.

There is, however, one thing I'd point out to Dralas about his hunting style. He doesn't usually hunt with others, Pene excluded. And she doesn't support him the same as you'd expect your pack mates to do. In that, he's probably less wolf or bear, and more like a typical big cat (excluding lions). Given his nocturnal preferences and Dawn-and-Dusk connections, I'd call him something closer to a Jaguar, or a Leopard.
