I'm forming a list of songs that I need to find tabs of so I can start practicing. I want to form a band and eventually play at the Battle of the Bands thing here in the spring. I want you all to suggest some rock and metal songs... there are some bands I will simply not play:

Anything "emo" (you know exactly what I mean)
Evanescence
Hinder
Staind
Nickleback
"Classic" rock such as ACDC and Led Zep (everyone's done it)

Suggest Free Bird or Stairway and, congratulations, you are the 1,000,000,000th butthead to suggest that. tongue.gif

Anything else is pretty much fair game. I've already decided on "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. I'm pretty much open to any suggestions, other than what I listed. I probably forgot some, too.

Remember, they have to be "school appropriate" songs. There are some editted versions we could easily play (such as the editted version of Sober- no bleeping, only replaced a few key words).

Cemetery Gates by Pantera or The Trooper by Iron Maiden. Just two songs I happen to be listening to a lot lately.

Funny, I know a guitarist who loves is obsessed with Pantera.

Hmmm... tongue.gif

Soundgarden - Jesus Christ pose [if mentioning Hesus isn't a no-no, I dunno]
Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
Soundgarden - Fell on [Black Days] [slower, but has nice, gloomy sound]

Pearl Jam - Even Flow
Pearl Jam - Oceans
Pearl Jam - Alive
Pearl Jam - Porch [I think it's that song, slow and sort of sad sounding]

Metallica - One [because I ****ing love it]
Metallica - Nothing else matters [because MY MOM loves it ohmy.gif]

I'll think of more in the morning. Give me some time.

I love Even Flow... hmm.

I'll wait for all the suggestions to make a decision. Until 200 posts, maybe. I dunno. Preferably soon though. As in, within three weeks.

99% of the tunes that I like I could not suggest ... no guitars biggrin.gif

If you could learn to play "Knights Of Cydonia" by Muse, that would so rock. smile.gif That has guitar in it!

Eh, I'd rather listen to "Spoonman" rather than "Black Hole Sun", that song gets played way too much! But personally I'd suggest the song "Superunknown".

As for metal songs, how obscure are we talking about here? Because I could list some really unheard of stuff quite likely.

For some more common bands I'd suggest:

"Ebethron" by The Sword
"Stay and Drown" by Finger Eleven
"Medusa" by Anthrax
"I Get It" by Chevelle

For some odd stuff there's:

"Marie's Sister's Garden" by Voodooshock
"Mountains" by I
"Tyrant" by Judas Priest
"I Am Complete" by Rapture

Audioslave is often mentioned and described by many as 'mixture of Soundgarden and R.A.T.M.', due to the fact it has members of those 2 bands. Truth is, Audioslave is a whole new sound, closer to original hard rock, but also with a heavy socio-political note at times ["Broken city", "Sound of a gun"]. In short, Audioslave is ++gud.
[/babble]

Audioslave songs I warmly recommend:

Revelations [a MUST, if no other, because of the riffs and great lyrics]
Original fire
One and the same
Your time has come
Be yourself
Man or animal [angry, loud, rapid, perfect]
Dandelion [warm, loud, slow, perfect]

Edit: out of bands whose entire work might not be familiar to you, I've chosen some well known singles

Faith no more - Epic [I know, everyone's done it, but damn that song is good]
Faith no more - Midlife crisis [strains the voice a bit though, this one]
Beastie Boys - Time for living [no comment needed, classy]
Sepultura - Slave new world [nice, simple text]
Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots [Get. It. Now.]

I'm gonna retire back here and make Red Hot Chili Peppers suggestions list in the meantime. Expect older stuff.

edit: MEH. Forget about "Mother's Milk" and "B.S.S.M." :/ it'll all be "Californication":

Parallel Universe [loud, ripping, perfect]
Otherside
Get on top
Easily

If I don't hear it on the radio, I simply won't play it. I don't download songs illegally (even if I wanted to I have dialup), and I'm too poor to buy cd's just for one song.

Personally I think most of Audioslave's early songs have a tendency to be better than Out of Exile and Revelations stuff. But that's an opinion. tongue.gif

Edit: Sorry if I seem snarky. XD I'm not discounting any suggestions as of now.

Eh, no problemo - actually, I presumed the 'limited choice' situation and that's why I didn't suggest any of the older Red Hot Stuff. "Californication", though, it's their last good album [IMAO] with decent, if not phenomenal songs.

BTW, Zarre dear, I didn't know you were such a god damned paladin tongue.gif no illegal downloads? Not one song?

p.s.: Indeed, Audioslave sounds much more commercial [duh] on their last 2 albums. Strangely enough, I like them more because of it, just like I like Idlewild because they're mellowed down a bit.
Bah. I'm getting too old for this RnR crap.

Blarg! I have a hard time finding songs I actually like on the radio, unless it's the odd classic rock song. Ohwell. I do know a few good bands that get radio play though. Not sure if you're a Smashing Pumpkins fan though... If you are, I'd suggest the song "Tarantula". Really sweet guitars in that song.

Oy, how could I forget Pumpkins? sad.gif
"Zero", "Today" and "Rat in a cage" are my favorites. Yes, yes, I'm a commercial Breton Witch. Sue me.

Ewww, Smashing Pumpkins.... tongue.gif Forgot about them. XD

stargelman: You know me, I'll be biting the head off of somethin'

and Mallet, you suggested Anthrax, which of course is stuff you WILL find on the radio. tongue.gif Same goes with Chevelle. I'm talking "mainstreamish" stuff, but I guess the radio here in Oklahoma (we have a few classic rock stations, one that plays pretty much anything, and two rock stations that plays mostly newish, mainstreamish stuff, but one has nights where they play punk rock and black metal) is better than yours.

Yes, no single song. I'll leave illegal downloads to other people. I know artists usually don't get much money from CDs (face it, they might get 10% of the cost of a CD), but I still won't do it.

I was seriously pondering some Alice in Chains. Mmmmm, grunge.

Please, think of the animals - Bite a carrot instead!

There are tons of bands from the east coast that I'd suggest, like Helmet, Sick of it all or Pro-Pain, but they're mostly unaired, non-commercial bands and they have troublesome lyrics biggrin.gif how about VOODOO CHILD by Jimmy?

Do you think I'm vegan or something? tongue.gif

Was also thinking of doing The Outsider by A Perfect Circle. The prince of all anti-suicide songs.

I'd like some more suggestions plz. tongue.gif

If I need to list off the CDs I have I will, btw.

If you do any A Perfect Circle song I would suggest either "The Noose" or "Pet". Of course, if you want something specifically guitar driven by them I'd look to their first album material, like "The Hollow" or "Judith". "3 Libras" would work if you had a violin sample and an epic feel. I love that freaking song.

I suggest the complete opposite - The Prince of Suicide, Ian Curtis and JOY DIVISION - "Isolation" \o/

Some mean bastards will say that song sounds monotonous, but the fact is - it's actually hypnotic [bass], which leaves lot of room for solo improvisation [guitar].

[and YES - by all means, list of CD's would make this job much easier and productive smile.gif]
