QUOTE(mirocu @ May 6 2015, 02:58 AM) If only, mALX. If only If Only If Only the Woodpecker sighs The bark on the Tree was as soft as the sky While the wolf sits below hungry and lonely He cries to the moon If only If only.

QUOTE(hazmick @ May 7 2015, 11:24 AM) Been gardening today since the weather is nice again, and saw a friend of mine that I've known since nursery (visitors are rare in my village, especially old friends). Then, just as i was lying down for a well deserved afternoon nap, a delivery man arrived with my Xbox One! The future of gaming is here...right after this update...and another one...then i have to install the game...then update it...but THEN the future of gaming will be here! Ooh, XBox One! I'm dying to hear details, and - can it play regular XBox 360 games or do they need to be "backwards compatible" like we had to do going from the XBox to the 360?

QUOTE(mirocu @ May 9 2015, 11:51 AM) Unfortunately Micro$oft have a policy of not caring what their customers want. Unless of course there is an uproar.. A few simply just wanting it wonīt be enough. They will, it will be just like the uproar when people who had XBox games learned the 360 wouldn't play them. They had to download an update to the 360 that allowed it to read the old XBox games. It isn't the same as playing the game on the console it was meant to be played on; the controller didn't jive well with the old games; even after tweaking the settings it made the game camera swing wildly - I couldn't get out of Seyda Neen before I was so seasick I had to stop playing. But a game I knew and loved, I would have suffered a lot to continue playing it on the new machine. In my situation right now, I have no console; both my Elite and my son's 360 are broken. So I'd rather fix one of them than get the "One" and not be able to play any of those games I bought for the 360. This post has been edited by mALX: May 9 2015, 05:18 PM

QUOTE(mirocu @ May 9 2015, 12:25 PM) Yeah, get a couple 360s just to be covered. Canīt be too expensive Yeah, have to find one first. Microsoft always pulls their old models off the shelves whenever they come out with a new one (just like they do for their Windows Vista/etc prepackaged software on computers; once they came out with Vista you couldn't buy XP anymore unless you custom ordered it (same with Windows 7 vs Vista; Windows 8 vs Windows 7; etc). So then you have to scour the aftermarket places for them. And aftermarket stores won't carry any extended warranties on them, and Microsoft has already stopped covering them past the first year. QUOTE(Acadian @ May 9 2015, 12:58 PM) To demonstrate my impressive knowledge of console gaming, I would have thought that XBox 1 would have been the antique old/first version. Surely a 360 model must be way more advanced? Until something like the 460 comes out? I get the impression I'm mistaken. . . . Exactly right, that is why the 360 had to be made "Backwards Compatible" - so people could continue to play their XBox games on the new console (which was the 360/360 Elite). Microsoft didn't want to make them Backwards Compatible; because they get a kickback for new games sold for their new console - but after much public uproar they did finally cave and make the 360 Backwards Compatible. Well, now Microsoft has come out with the "XBox One" - which I am assuming is the next gen of their console. And once again they shipped them without making them backwards compatible; so people are forced to buy the new games or stop playing their old beloved games. I'd say it won't be long before their public forces them into making the "One" backwards compatible to the 360. I think it kind of sucks that they don't just do it automatically for their loyal customers.

QUOTE(mALX @ May 9 2015, 09:05 AM) They will have to make them backwards compatible then, at least to the 360 (or a bunch of customers will go off on them like they did over the 360 not being backwards compatible to the XBox when it first came out).
Neither of the next gen consoles has backwards compatibility, the explanation is that they're pretty much built like PCs, making them more different from their predecessors than the previous gen were. The differences between the old and new consoles are supposedly too great to allow for backwards compatibility, and they were pretty up front about its absence. It probably slowed down sales, but both consoles are still selling, so it's clearly not a deal breaker for a lot of people. But microsoft won't make the XB1 backwards compatible. There just isn't enough of an uproar about it, people are pretty much shrugging it off for the most part. It'd take something on the scale of the reaction to microsoft's original steam-style plans for the XB1 to get them to do anything, and that just isn't going to happen. And we're already seeing what they're doing instead; remastering the Halo games and two of the Borderlands games for the XB1 and releasing them in bundles.

I've already re-bought the games for the PC when my consoles both broke; so I think I'll have to forego buying the XB1. It would be nice if this new "more like a computer" type console could allow for modded games, wouldn't it?

Iīm not talking stores here, mALX. Iīm talking ebay I'd rather go through a local store, actually - unless I could find a legitimate liquidation store on EBay. But so far they can still be ordered from Best Buy, so I've got time so far to think it over. Actually, all the games I had on the XBox - I've bought them all for the PC via Steam last November; or already had them for the PC. So I'm not going to get myself another 360 or XB1. But since I broke my son's 360; I have to replace it - so instead of just buying another 360 I'm going to give him the option on whether he wants another 360 or if he wants the XB1. I'll buy him whichever he wants, or whatever he wants (for example if he wants a Playstation instead, etc).
