QUOTE(Renee @ Aug 20 2021, 11:07 AM) Khajiit's game used to work though. Maybe it's a Windows 10 thing?
Yeah maybe. I could try what Subbie suggested a few posts up. If I get around to it.

QUOTE(Kane @ Aug 20 2021, 10:14 AM) QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Aug 18 2021, 04:34 PM) I tried to play Fallout3 a couple of weeks ago, but it just would not launch, even after I tried reinstalling it through GOG. Couldn’t get into the vampire concept I was trying to play in Fallout4. Just never felt right. So, no new Fallout characters for me, unfortunately. Isn't there some weird Windows Live thing needed for Fallout 3? Renee helped me set up 3 a few years ago - I probably wouldn't have managed without her help. There is. You have to disable Games For Windows Live. But I don't remember if that is already built into the Gog version or not.

QUOTE(Renee @ Aug 18 2021, 07:44 AM) Allison Chains will work better. Allison will be sort of punk rock. She'll have wild hair and stuff. She will probably be sort of gray...not the goodie that Linda Hand was.
I really don't want to be that guy, but given that Alice in Chains is my favorite band, I just wanted to note something. Punk rock wouldn't work for that name. AIC was well after the heyday of punk rock. Maybe these pictures will give you something to work with, from their days with Layne Staley and then post-Staley (William DuVall). AIC w/ StaleyAIC w/ DuVallApart from that, yeah, morally gray probably works best. It wouldn't launch through GOG? Huh, that's weird. Do you use mods that might have messed with it? Do you use GOG Galaxy or do you manually download it? I just use Galaxy so I don't have to tinker with a bunch of things, so if you normally do it manually, maybe try that. The vampire concept could have worked well with The Family in Fallout 3, too. And hello, Desertwalker! It's been some time since I last saw you. I haven't been on the forums a whole, especially General Discussion, so maybe that is why it has been a while. EDIT: @SubRosa, nope, Games for Windows Live isn't in the GOG version. That's the one I use. (Also, last time I checked, Steam's store page for Fallout 3 indicates that it doesn't work on Windows 10 naturally.) **************** Since I'm not a hardcore roleplayer, maybe that's a big reason why I have this issue, but there are some kinds of characters I just cannot bring myself to play. Guess I empathize too much with some pixels. In Fallout 4, I've off-and-on considered playing a character that sides with the Brotherhood of Steel, but I just can't do it. I don't want to do Railroad again, and I have my grievances with them too. I really can't do the Institute either, even though meeting them shows them to be a bit more morally complex than they initially seem (though a bunch of its members are still terrible people). That would leave the Minutemen, but their part in the main questline is really gimped, which I suspect was due to time constraints on releasing the game. On a related note, I went back to my replay of Fallout 3 about a week or so ago after a long hiatus. Running into Arthur Maxson while knowing what he becomes in Fallout 4 makes me want to drop-kick the little twerp. I wonder what Roger Maxson would have thought of him. You are right, I have been very busy IRL so I haven’t been posting as much in the past maybe month or so. Things have calmed down though so hopefully I won’t go so long in the future! But yeah, my GOG version of the game just refuses to run. I tried reinstalling it but that didn’t help. Can’t remember if I deleted all of the mods I had (which weren’t many). I may go back and look next week sometime.

Do you get any error / CTD message or nothing at all?
My FO3 and FNV, both GOG versions, work(ed) flawlessly.
I haven't been playing FO, except FNV, for a long time. After the disk crash in 2020 I simply don't have any real desire to deal with installing all mods again and creating the setup that I was using before the disk crash. Because I know that something definitely won't work, because I'll overlook something etc. and with my limited free time, I prefer to stick to ESO for now, where I can simply run the game without taking care of any mods. The same goes for Skyrim, my mod setup there was even more complicated than in FO. FNV is actually the only game that I installed back in full after the disk crash, simply because Blondie is my main and favorite FO character.

I know they aren't punk, they are more toward the grunge era. I was talking about my character though. She'll have a punk look. Or grunge. Or she'll be a metal chick. Doesn't really matter to me, as long as she's not sporting a Prim 'n' Proper coif. And yeah, me too, on the subject of characters. Some types I can't get into! I can play a thief, I can play a murderer, but never a rapist, for instance. Or somebody who enjoys torture (wait.... never mind on that one. Although she was in Elder Scrolls, not Fallout). With Vicious's tale concluded for 2021, I think I am going to return to Fallout New Vegas for awhile. I abandoned this game last January or February after Linda Hand got killed by a pack of deathclaws. Which really made me upset, because she did everything "right". Ate a Stealth Boy, tried to enter a door she found in the middle of nowhere. Well, Stealth Boys are useless in this game (didn't even slow the deathies down, or confuse them at all) and the door she found was locked with a Needs a Key lock. Even though her game wasn't DiD, I didn't feel like I wanted to continue it. Just didn't feel right. I really love that gal, but she wasn't really the swashbuckling desert warrior type. Maybe that, in fact, is sort of an issue. So my Fallout Character idea is to roll somebody whom I don't really love quite so much. I know that sounds weird, especially coming from me. I really love the Mojave though, and I enjoy the way Obsidian structured the game's quests (in contrast to Fallout 3) So I don't want to abandon FONV. I am going to roll a series of adventurers, I think, all with the usual silly Renee names. First will be a guy named Justin Case. The roleplay won't be so heavy with him (yeah, I know I've said this in the past ). Justin will probably be my first to take on the quest in Goodsprings, the one with Ringo. Linda Hand and Karen Aboucha never did that quest.

Linda Hand and Karen Aboucha never did that quest. I understand about characters dying and then not wanting to continue. My restartitus acts up a lot when a character dies. I’ve been thinking about playing New Vegas, but honestly downloading mods for yet another game isn’t appealing to me at the moment.

Ah. I'm playing New Vegas on Xbox. Otherwise, making Stealth Boy more effective would be one of my first priorities to change. Hoo boy. If you play Fallout 4 you'll be seriously disappointed in Stealth Boys. They last a whopping thirty seconds and are practically useless.

Honestly for me, it's not really their duration, it's their effectiveness. I mean, if they don't frickin' work, why are they even in the game??? ARRRGH!!! Argh Argh Aurgh1!!!! ... They are expensive and rare. Not lying around everywhere, right? They must be therefore used sparingly. So they should be our ticket to live another day (another hour, whatever). SBs definitely work in Fallout 3, too, and this is without any mod to enhance them. I have a couple clear memories of Janet escaping death by eating one, and one of these moments happened when she encountered the behemoth outside of Gold Grocery. You all know that one, right? We tap the baby carriage, and then out of nowhere we're being chased by a skyscraper of a super mutant! She ate one of them while the behemoth killed her first boyfriend, Ben D. Banana. Benny tried to fight the thing, while Janet had no choice but to run & go invisible. I remember she was able to do this, and in fact she later lured the thing back to an area where she could safely kill it. Pretty sure they work in pure vanilla FO3 too. Cho definitely used them a couple times when his game was on Xbox, although I haven't got any clear memories. But in that case, if he'd gotten pwned while invisible and running from some huge enemy, that's a moment I'd get really pissed off, and so I'd remember that.

Deathclaws have very high perception, Stealth Boys won't really help you with them, as long as one isn't mid-to-high leveled and/or doesn't pack powerful weapons, the best method to deal with deathclaws is to stray away of them as far as possible. So you'll do the first after-tutorial quest after so long after all. In a way that quest could also be considered as a part of a tutorial. I remember that I did that quest immediately after completing the tutorial with my first character Dyvanche. I probably couldn't resist completing it immediately.

Problem is, by the time we notice them they're already running toward us. And it's always THEM, too, in New Vegas. In FO3, they'd usually be traveling solo. Ha ha yeah, Justin Case is going to do that first quest. Not sure if he'll help the town or go against them, but that's another thing--it's neat to have a choice like that. More Fallout Character Ideas: I am going to try making Justin Case look like a famous guy from one of those boy bands whose last name begins with a B. I think you all know who I mean. Giving him a Theme Song in the Characters thread, he'll definitely have a song from that guy's catalog. This post has been edited by Renee: Nov 26 2021, 05:33 PM
